Wayne Ichikawa, DDS

I was referred to to Dr. Ichikawa from my primary doctor to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted. I ended up doing just local anesthesia and I felt very comfortable doing it with Dr. Ichikawa. He talked me through the entire process and even took breaks in giving me all the shots so it wouldn’t make my heart rate jump up immediately. As far as the procedure, I was only there for about 35 minutes. It took about 15 – 20 minutes to get all the novocaine in my gums and after that about another 10 minutes for all my teeth. He is very talkative and very nice, outgoing doctor. He let me know what I was going to feel and his nurse was very gentile and great at cleaning up my mouth. If you are worried about doing the iv or being asleep I would highly recommend you doing just the novocaine. It was a completely pain less process and again he did a great job in extracting all my teeth with no pain what so ever!

Dr Ishikawa was very helpful in talking about the procedure and options! They were able to talk about possible pricing much more easily than other places. You feel that they are giving you a good deal rather than trying to rack up as many charges as possible!

Just had my wisdom teeth removed about an hour ago. The doctor and staff were very nice and talked to me constantly to keep me distracted. There was no pain during the pulling and it was over after about 15 minutes. I have yet to see how healing goes, since I’m still numb, but so far everything is great. Definitely go here for your wisdom teeth.

As a retired R. N .I was impressed with one of the best — – Dr Ishikawa!!!
We consulted Dr Ishikawa for removal of wisdom teeth for my son based on the recommendation of our dentist. Dr Ishikawa is very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the procedure and possible side effects from the surgery. He provided several options for sedation in the office. My son chose an oral medication an hour before the procedure and «laughing gas». My unfortunate son needed drilling to remove the lower wisdom teeth. I was impressed that Dr Ishikawa was very efficient and quickly did my son’s surgery. My son had very minimal swelling and pain after the surgery. In fact he felt ready and reported back to Football practice the day after (practice kicking, no contact). Dr Ishikawa and staff provided outstanding oral and written post operative instructions. We followed them closely and had a quick recovery back to school Mon. with surgery the Fri before. Dr Ishikawa called us several times over the weekend to check in with us and to answer any concerns of ours. No reason to go anywhere else. His staff is very helpful and pleasant as well.

This is definitely one of the best dental offices. Oral Surgent Ichikawa is very considerate of his patients needs. Easy to communicate with. He is quick and efficient when performing procedures which is a huge plus. The front desk staff respond to their messages promptly. They are wonderful when managing the dentist schedule seeing as they have been able to fit in urgent cases on both occasions when requested. Their compassion for the patients needs and positive attitude makes it more relaxing when visiting their office. I would recommend to my family and friends!!!

I had a tooth extracted with bone graft that was so easy I was surprised!
Dr Ichikawa took a lot of time to explain everything. I hope to have an implant next year. I am very pleased.

I had two separate procedures with Dr. Ichikawa to take my wisdom teeth out. Least to say, I was extremely nervous prior to the extraction. Although I was scared and anxious walking in, Dr. Ichikawa was very calming and accommodating. He walked me through the steps I had to take in detail before and after the procedure. During the procedure he made sure I was numb and informed about what was happening the whole time. I knew Dr. Ichikawa was a great doctor when the procedure was done nearly as quickly and diligently as it took to numb me (I want to say within a matter of minutes). The same night of my procedure, he called to check up on me and reassured me about any concerns I had about the medicine, stitches, diet, etc. He even periodically called throughout the week to make sure I was recovering well. I felt he truly cared about my well being and tries to help his patients deal with the least amount of inconvenience and pain that an oral surgery possibly can. I couldnt be more satisfied with my experience with Dr. Ichikawa and would definitely recommend him to my family and friends.

My tooth extraction went extremely well. Dr. Ichikawa is awesome. Him and his staff are very caring and pleasant. They made me feel very comfortable and weren’t rushed at all, answering all of my questions. I left the office feeling very good and wanting tell everyone what a good Dentist I had found. They even call you that evening the night of your procedure to make sure everything is going well. Thank you Dr. Ichikawa and staff!

I had a great experience with Dr. Ichikawa. I had to get three wisdom teeth pulled, two of them impacted and left to grow for a little too long. I have a slight fear of dentists, and was indeed shaking throughout the whole procedure, but there was really nothing to worry about. I’ve heard horror stories from friends whose teeth took an hour per tooth to extract, with tons of pain and fear to go along with it. With Dr. Ichikawa, each tooth took no more than 10 minutes. I was scared, but I greatly appreciated the doctor explaining every step of the procedure (something not many dentists do), and talked to me about other things to keep my mind off of the fear while waiting for the Novacaine to kick in. All in all a great oral surgeon! Highly recommend him.

Dr. Ichikawa is a genuinely a pleasant doctor. He has wonderful «bedside manner» and treats his patients with the utmost care. I am grateful that Dr. Hiura referred me here. As a testament to Dr. Ichikawa’s concern for his patients, I was called the day after my wisdom tooth extraction by Dr. Ichikawa himself (even though it was a saturday.) This is excellent customer service and patient care. I would certainly recommend Dr. Ichikawa to my friends.

Went there after reading Unilocal reviews for wisdom teeth extraction (all 4). I feel going to this place was the best decision. I thank all the Unilocal reviewers for sharing their experience which led me to Dr. Ichikawa .
I was very nervous and not sure if I should go for all 4 or do it in parts over 2 or 3 appointments. Dr. Ichikawa calmed me down and answered all my questions patiently.
The procedure was painless and smooth. I did not realize when all 4 were out. He does a great job in communicating while he is working on your extractions. He will keep on letting you know the status of extraction as it happens and takes instant action on your feedback.
The front desk provided a quick and easy experience as well. I don’t remember the name of the operator but I called in a couple of times after I made an appointment with lots of questions and she provided me with good value added information. The entire staff is friendly and easy going.
I loved the whole experience at this place and I already recommend him to my co-​workers and friends. Thank you Dr. Ichikawa.

Sent to from my dentist up stairs in same building. I had my X-​ray in hand wast told to see about options Dr. Ichikawa whom tried to Re bill my insurance company for the same evaluation from my dentist and tried charging the same service with in the the hour. My insurance declined him of what was said to be and evaluation. I see this as someone that is shady in his billing.

So, I’m giving 3 stars as an overall experience, but I will preface that the procedure I had was definitely 5 stars.
So I got referred here from my primary dentist, as I had had a root canal a couple of years prior at another dentist, and it was just full of issues. I ended up with no option but to have a tooth extraction (luckily it was at the back, so it’s unnoticeable).
Anyway, when I got to the office, the lady behind the front desk was pleasant and gave me some forms to fill in. They have a screen that slides across the desk to hide them, which my usual dentist does not (or any other I have ever been to) and I find this a little off putting. Anyway, no big deal. So I was a little early and sat waiting in the waiting room, till someone took me through to the consulting room. The girl who took me through was ok — didn’t say much though.
So I sat in the consulting room for over 20 mins with nobody coming in to check on me or anything. First of all, why bother taking people in to a room which has nothing, to sit and wait, when they could be out in the waiting room with magazines?!
Anyway, Dr Ichikawa finally came in. Baring in mind this was the first time I had ever met him, I found him to be really rude. He didn’t say hi, didn’t introduce himself, no nice to meet you etc, just sat down on his chair and started mumbling something of which I had no idea what he was saying. He had my paperwork and was talking about the procedure. To his credit, he was extremely thorough, however I felt the 30 mins I was in there with him could have been cut down a lot if he didn’t repeat the same things over and over again. There were also a few times he asked me questions, to which I replied and his responses made me feel like Io was about 2 inches small — again, found him to be very rude.
Eventually went in to the room where they were going to take the tooth out. It’s a very large room that leads to a big back space where a table full of patient records is piled high — not overly professional.
The assistant was also really rude — more so than him I found. She didn’t say anything to me and throughout the whole thing, other than when she was getting something, just stared off in to space with a sour look on her face.
Now, here is where I would give them 5 stars — the actual procedure of taking the tooth out was fantastic, and this is where I started to change my opinion of the Dr. He was talking me though it, very calming, making sure I was ok etc. He is clearly very good at what he does and he got the tooth out in less than 3 minutes.
So as soon as it was out, the assistant gave me stuff to put in my mouth and gave me a little care booklet — briefly explained about the after care. This was the most I heard out of her the whole time. And then my opinion of the Dr went back to my original view — I turned around to thank him and he had gone. There was no asking if I was ok or anything. Just gone.
So, before the procedure he had said that I would need to come back in a week to check that it was healing ok and that I had no infection. So I booked an appointment for the following week.
I get a phone 2 days before asking why I was coming in. I explained what I had been told, the lady on the phone said she would go and check and when she came back said that the Dr had said «he’s done with me» and that they would call me in 6 months for an x-​ray to see how the bone was healing. Erm… OK. Let’s hope I don’t have an infection or anything and that the wound is healing how it is supposed to.
I felt the amazing work of the procedure is completely overshadowed by the attitudes of the staff. I must be an odd case though as clearly he has given superior aftercare to all of his other patients. I guess he just didn’t like me!

Dr. Ichikawa is such a great oral surgeon. This was my first procedure of any sort, and he thoroughly talked me through every step as well as what to expect before, during and after the procedure itself. He was very quick and made sure that I was comfortable the entire time. As he pulled/​drilled each tooth (I had all four removed) he was talking to me and telling me what he was doing. He was very calm the whole time and it was just a very nice process over all.
He also called me later in the evening to check up on me and explained some more things. He is very great at what he does and I recommend him to whoever is looking for an oral surgeon.

Great Dentist! I was in pain and his great staff got me in very fast I considered myself lucky!

Dr. Ichikawa keep my mind busy with laughter and
conversation and before you know it he was done. Very old root canal tooth in the back… gone!
And funny? He is soooo funny. I kept thinking, «must not laugh with mouth wide open!»
He is a very kind, compassionate human being. Every little detail matters so much to him.
And they call and make sure their patients are doing well.
If I ever need another Oral Surgeon, I would call Dr. Itchikawa in a heartbeat.

Dr. Ichikawa is the real deal. I was referred to him by my brother who had his wisdom teeth removed last year. I was in complete and utter pain. Both of my wisdom teeth felt like a heart beat in my mouth. the throbbing wouldn’t stop to the point of tears.
I walked into the office and explained my pain to the receptionist and she checked with the Dr. to confirm if I could be seen. I was given paper work to fill out within 10 minutes of walking in. I was seen 15 minutes later to take X-​RAYs of both Wisdom teeth. Dr. Ichikawa then came in to introduce himself and review the X-​RAYS and explained to me in detail that one tooth was impacted and I needed to be on a ten day Antibiotic for the infection in the impacted tooth. He wrote me up a presription for Pain medication and Antibiotics; then set a date for my wisdom teeth to be pulled.
Day of Surgery in at 11:30 am out of the Office at 11:55am. No, joke. In and out within 20 minutes for both wisdom teeth. One severe day of pain and I was up and okay. The pain was hard the first day! To the point where I wanted to only sleep. But once the medication kicked in I was fine.
GREAT DENTIST/​SURGEON. His staff makes you feel very comfortable and are very welcoming.

I don’t have a single complaint, I was referred to Dr. Ichikawa by my longtime dentist to get my wisdom teeth out. He was nice/​friendly and walked me through the entire procedure beforehand so I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. The procedure wasn’t too bad even though he removed all four, two of which were impacted. I chose laughing gas and was awake because it was cheaper, whenever I felt something, not pain just tugging, he would give me more anesthesia and wait for it to sink in. Afterwards, Dr. Ichikawa called me every few days to check on me even a few weeks after the procedure, I was very surprised by this personal touch and really appreciated it. I did have some pain and was on the verge of a dry socket so it did help that he was there to answer all my questions.
Overall great experience, hopefully I won’t need anymore oral surgeries but I’d definitely go back to him if I needed to.

I came to see Dr. Ichikawa for the extraction of my 4 (yes, 4!) wisdom teeth. I will admit I had some skepticism as soon as I met the Dr. He had this nervous twitch that I couldn’t seem to shake, and it happened every so often as I was going through the initial consultation. Nervous twitch coming from someone who was supposed to operate on the inside of my mouth? Um…
Despite the nervous twitch, the Dr. was very thorough in explaining the entire procedure, reviewing all methods of anesthesia, and answering all questions that I had. He took a good 45 minutes or so to review all of my options. I think he could tell that I was nervous about the procedure, as he kept saying things like, «We haven’t lost a patient yet! (chuckle),» and «Just make sure you don’t overdose on the drugs (chuckle again).» His humor was quirky and odd, as other patients say, but I’m easily amused, often a little too polite, and so I laughed all the same.
Nervous twitch aside, I made the extraction appointment for the following week. I opted for the laughing gas, in combination with a low dosage of Xanax shortly prior to coming in to increase the relaxed effect. I was immediately brought into the «operating room», where the nurse administered oxygen and then the nitrous oxide. The doctor came in shortly thereafter and explained the entire procedure. He made sure that I was calm, swabbed the numbing gel, and then administered the numbing shots in all corners of my mouth. After waiting about 5 minutes, he administered another round of numbing shots.
Several minutes later, he was cutting into my mouth. He had the first tooth out within seconds. «That’s it?!» I exclaimed. I was surprised. It had taken longer to administer the gas and the shots than it had to actually pull the tooth! The other three were just as simple, although he did have to drill to break up the bottom two before pulling them out.
After the procedure was complete, the nurse came back in and explained the aftercare instructions to me.
I really appreciated that the Dr. explained the whole procedure beforehand, as well as answered questions that I had while I was on the «operating table.» I was very nervous about being awake for the extraction, but he had a calm demeanor, which was very helpful during my moment of vulnerability.
I ended up with a dry socket in one of the extraction sites a couple of days later, but the doctor was (again) very thorough in explaining what it was, providing literature about the condition, and (most importantly!) treatment. My favorite words of his, «This medicine will make the pain go away. No more pain meds.» It’s been six hours since my last dose of painkillers, and I still don’t feel a thing. YES.
Bottom line– nobody actually looks forward to having 4 teeth plucked out of their pretty little head, but if you’re going to do it (read: you have no other choice), you might as well find a reputable, informed doctor who can deliver. And Dr. Ichikawa definitely can.

Wanted to provide an update on my stitch removal appointment. First, there was no additional charge for this appointment. My stitches were cut out quickly and painlessly. I was given a plastic syringe type thing that I basically had to hold over the gaps where my bottom wisdom teeth were and squirt water into the holes to flush out any food debris. This was all explained to me in great detail (in terms of how frequently and how long I should do this). I was also told that if I experience any pain I should come back immediately.
Well good news, no pain and my mouth has healed up nicely! I stand by my original review that this experience was fantastic.

I found Dr. Ichikawa on Unilocal when I was looking for a surgeon to pull my wisdom teeth. I went to him based on all the great reviews about people having no pain after the surgery, and I’m glad I did. I had my bottom 2 wisdom teeth pulled and that same night I was already able to eat solid food. I don’t think i usually heal very fast but I definitely did this time. I barely bled at all after the surgery. He mentioned I might be bleeding a lot the first day, but about an hour after the surgery, the bleeding stopped.
My wisdom teeth were pretty messed up too — they were fully impacted and they were growing in horizontally pushing into my back teeth. They had to cut into the gums and break the teeth and pull them out in pieces. I know that sounds awful, but the procedure was done in about 30 minutes or less. I opted for the $ 50 gas. It didn’t seem to fully numb me, but I’m sure it was better than nothing. He also mentioned I might get a dry socket, especially since I had some tooth decay in a tooth next to my wisdom tooth, but I was fine.
I don’t have great dental insurance and I was worried the bill would be hefty but it was only ~$ 200 including the $ 50 gas.
As other people mentioned, this guy has a strange sense of humor. I don’t think I got some of his jokes and it was kind of off-​putting since I was scared before the procedure, but this guy did a great job and I will be back when I need to get my top 2 wisdom teeth pulled.
