Courtyard San Diego Carlsbad/McClellan-Palomar Airport

Our experience here was wonderful. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating, even when we had made a mistake in our reservation. They were very friendly and helpful, even very late at night, and with helping us get a wonderfully late checkout. The pool area was lovely and peaceful, and the whole hotel was quiet and relaxing.

I love the gentlemen at the Bistro named Jason and Alex. They’re great and always provide HIGH QUALITY service every time I’m here and that’s the only reason I’m leaving 2 stars. It’s seriously frustrating that the hotel allows its guests to be in the lobby/​bistro area and act like animals. No one does anything about the disruptive, rude people ruining our stay when some people are actually trying to get some work done. Please control the guests and not let them act like wild animals in this fine establishment. I want to return and continue my business but PLEASE have guests show respect to other guests.

In Carlsbad for business. Really disappointed that they don’t provide complimentary breakfast like the Hampton does, or even orange juice or coffee in the mornings, but besides that the room is very spacious love the huge window and the ice machine is right across my room so that was great. I absolutely love the huge parking lot I usually find parking fast after I get of from work so that’s great. Staff is very friendly! So far So good !

So far not so great! We booked a king suite, and when we arrived the only room available was a king suite handicap room. We did not book this type of room. So then we settle for a room wit King bed and sofa bed. The room was small and sofa bed was fit for 2 kids smaller than a full size bed. We ended up moving to room with 2 queen/​double beds. Home wood suites would have been better and price comparable.

The staff was friendly upon check-​in. The hotel itself is very clean and updated with a nice café in the hotel lobby. The rooms are clean and suited me just fine. The room rate I got on Expedia was the best I found in Carlsbad for a moderate room in a good location. The fire alarm going off multiple times beginning at 3:15 AM on my first night is the reason for my three star review (instead of four). I was told that they had a smoker in one of the hallways and were unable to pinpoint the exact location of that person because he would duck into his room when the alarms were triggered. Although I understand it is not the hotel’s fault that they had a patron who was smoking in the hotel, I would have hoped that they would have offered some sort of accommodation to its inconvenienced guests. Heck, a free cup of coffee from their café would have been a wonderful gesture since I lost quite a bit of sleep due to the fire alarm going off multiple times throughout the evening and into the next day. Oh, and not just a smoke detector like you have at home, but one with a loud tornado warning type of siren complete with flashing light (see photo)! That said, my second and third nights there were much better and I was able to get some sleep. I would stay here again given its location and fair room rate, but not if that damn smoker is going to be there at the same time! LOL

We have definitely done a tour of the hotels in the Carlsbad area for Legoland. I found this Courtyard on Exepdia for a pretty reasonable rate, and it suited our needs pretty nicely. The downstairs has clearly undergone a recent remodel, with a very unassuming check-​in counter, but lovely lounge area, business center & dining room. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. It’s so convenient to just walk downstairs for breakfast, then go back upstairs to pack up & check out.
The room was OK. I’m not sure if we were in a handicap-​accessible room, but the sink area was extremely narrow (almost no counter space) but the door to the shower & toilet was really wide. If I had to do it all over again, I would prefer a smaller shower/​toilet area, and a large area for the sink. It’s a minor complaint, though. The beds were really comfortable and I fell asleep as soon as closed my eyes.
Free parking & if you don’t have Legoland tickets, you can buy a single-​day ticket at the hotel for a discount. I have no idea how Marriott was able to do this At the time of this review, Legoland is running a promotion for 2-​day tickets that is a slightly better deal, but if you didn’t have tickets & were just visiting for 1 day, the tickets at the Courtyard were about $ 20 cheaper per person, which is a great deal.

Bottom Line: An ok hotel that serves its primary function as a place to sleep but there are better options in Carlsbad for the same price.
I recently returned to this Courtyard for a week’s stay and this hotel feels even more tired than it did when last stayed there six months ago. This hotel is definitely ready for a refresh and I think the brand new Fairfield Inn up the road is going to force the issue. Several of my colleagues have ditched the Courtyard in favor of the Fairfield Inn too. Nether less, I still like the slightly larger rooms at Courtyard and the convenience of The Bistro for breakfast and dinner.

Older Marriott. Old rugs. Towels smell and look old. Screen to balcony really dusty. Room phone really dirty. I recommend the Fairfield Marriott. Only 3 blocks away. BRAND NEW. Ive stayed there. Hallways even smell fresh.

I stay in mostly Marriott or Hilton’s unless I get a review to pick a different spot. Was in Carlsbad for business and did not need to be by the beach. This location was east of the Interstate 5 so I had to drive to Encinitas and Carlsbad areas. The traffic was pretty good around this area and there were many eating options nearby.
Pros–
An option to get extra reward points if you passed on housekeeping. I did this and will followup to make sure I got the extra points. I think this is a great way to conserve water and staff.
Room was clean, but I had no housekeeping the rest of the stay.

Very crowded parking lot. I had to park around back and it was difficult to get back in the hotel. I made sure that I parked up front the rest of the trip to avoid having to enter the back way.
No breakfast (if that matters to you) – they have a Pay option.
No complimentary drinks in the lobby (coffee, tea, etc.)
Asked for extra coffee because of not getting housekeeping, but never got it. Wasn’t the end of the world
Some updating needed in the halls/​interior
I would stay there again. I normally stay near the beach, but this was perfect for another type of trip. The price is more affordable when you stay further from the beach.

My family & I came to Legoland this weekend and stayed at this location of Courtyard Marriott hotels. We experienced the upmost hospitality ever. We’ve stayed at different levels of hotels and resorts in the past and I have to say that by far the staff here are exceptional. The rooms are clean, modern and the bistro offers a great selection of food which is pretty darn good. Another plus was we didn’t get hassled for a late check out (2:00pm), were offered laundry service by one of the staff who noticed me come in with a handful of wet clothes. These people go out of their way to make your stay amazing. Thank you to Marisela, Paloma and the management. Your hospitality, does not go unnoticed. We’ll be back again hands down.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND

There are many hotels to chose from when traveling throughout the country. Marriotts never disappoints and this particular location at Courtyard was conveniently located near Legoland, Legoland Waterpark, Sea Life Aquarium, Carlsbad beaches and many other sites and activities. Parking is free and Wi-​Fi is free as well. They also had there own restaurant open 24 hours.
The rooms were especially spacious to accommodate my family of four. They even had a bellhop bring a pak and play for our infant son at no charge. Rooms were kept tideous and clean the whole entire time. This seemed to be a hotel that mostly catered to that of business travelers; kind of a plus because it was quiet the entire time we were there. The beds were so comfortable and I even woke up late this morning coming back to Las Vegas, because I slept so well. We requested ajoining rooms for my folks next door and the hotel accommodated us without issues.
They also have a spa and pool open until 10:00 PM with plenty of towels nearby so you don’t have to worry about bringing towels. Both were exceptionally clean and you can tell this hotel prides itself on cleanliness. My mother happens to be a Marriotts Elite Rewards member and I can see why now. They just don’t miss a beat anywhere when it comes to service. I will definitely bookmark this location for another visit should I visit San Diego again. Great staff, clean rooms and plenty of free perks to offer; why would you chose anywhere else?

Most Courtyards are quite good. This one is even better, as the service at the Bistro is great and there is plenty of food, unlike most other Courtyards.

PROS
–Rooms were clean and had updated interiors.
–We had 3 rooms which they worked to get near eachother for us.
CONS
–My kids slept on the pull out couch, ouch. The mattress was thin and lumpy. We had to clean chunks of food from it before we could make it. yuck! I felt bad for them.
–I missed the complimentary coffee/​tea in the lobby that I have come to expect from a mid-​range hotel.
–The property needed some janitorial attention, there were overflowing trash cans and litter around the parking lot and side walks. Not a good first impression.

We stay at the Courtyard San Diego Carlsbad for a weekend. I try and come to San Diego a few time every year since its a easy drive from Phoenix. I think we may have found great hotel and even better location! We will be back to Courtyard, Thanks for making us feel at home.

The power had gone out at the Residence Inn, so we transferred our reservation to the Courtyard. Marriott made the transfer relatively smooth. The only difficulty was packing up our belongings with a flashlight and moving at 10:30 in the evening.
I got settled in quickly. Through a set up quite differently than the Renaissance. We no longer had a kitchenette or dining table or large bathroom. I have to say even without those things that I have felt much more comfortable here. The breakfast is made to order, there is a much better lounging experience in the lobby and outside, the pool is better and not flooded with children and dogs… And the most important thing of all is that the bed slept wonderfully. I’m going to ask the front lobby the brand. It was the best night’s rest I have gotten in a long time. Our room was peaceful and totally worth the move in the middle of the night. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in town.

Came here for a quick weekend getaway to Legoland with the Kids, very close by to the park. The staff was very pleasant and the accommodations were just right. The lobby was really nice and the bistro wasn’t bad. If we ever came back down to Legoland, we would stay there again.

I had one of my worst hotel experiences in my 54 year old world traveling life at this fake dump.
Stayed October 13^th with my wife and two young children to be close to Lego Land. The room was across from the front desk grocery store, and machines. Outside our door at 11:45 pm, I had to go out side and angrily ask 4 men drinking at a picknick table 10 feet from our sliding glass door to move on and let us sleep. The room above us woke at 4 am with alarms and high heal stomping, as it is a mecca for the airline employees. Then 6:30 am the employees are outside our door with top of their lung greetings and chitchat. Again I am up and outside to tell them to shut the hell up.
Missed our breakfast with all the great sleep we had and then room service for 2 oat meals and 2 french toast was $ 20 added to our $ 137 room, and tax bill. No comp from management or appologies. Here on Unilocal,as I do my taxes my receipt reminded me to repay them with a nice Unilocal review. The Motel 6 was great in comparison. Residence Inn at 12 011 Scripps Highland Dr. Dan Diago was fine also.

I except better from a Marriott property. This place is yellowing and dilapidated. For 156 a night this place feels more like 56 a night; dirty and a bit smelly. While the staff are wonderfully friendly and accommodating-​this is the only redeeming quality here. I will not stay here again on business or otherwise.
The first room I checked into the sliding glass door on the ground floor did not close properly. I requested a change for safety reasons and got a room half the size that smelled like smoke right next to the loudest ice machine ever. In addition, the bathroom wall was decaying where the shower lining met the wall paper. The third room I was placed in was okay-​still a yellow looking shower but mostly clean. Having stayed at many Marriott properties for business-​including multiple Courtyards, I am horrified at the state of the rooms here-​especially in Carlsbad. Please renovate the rooms. I will not be recommending this place to anyone until it improves in amenities and the quality I’ve come to except from Marriott. A sorely disappointed gold member.

Do not stay in room 121.
The rear entry door is very loud when it slams shut.
It startled me each time someone entered and exited through the rear door. People walking up stairs also can be heard from in the room. I was going to switch rooms if guests continued to come in after 10pm, fortunately it was a Tuesday night and entry/​exit stopped at 10pm, but started again before 6am as guests were leaving.
The hotel should warn guest that this room gets a lot of traffic noise and offer a reduced rate.
Also shower from upstairs room is very loud.
Nice room and comfortable.
I feel like the guy checking me in knew this room was noisy and feel ripped off and cheated.

This is the only hotel we will stay at when in Carlsbad! The general manager Trent helped us when we stayed here the first time he did everything he could to make sure we were completely satisfied. We have stayed at 100’s of hotels and have never been treated so well! He is awesome! This will be our 3 rd stay on Saturday and looking forward to it! The ladies at the front desk are very nice as well and housekeeping does a great job. Also breakfast had a ton of variety and yummmy stuff! 100% satisfied! Highly recommend!

The Courtyard was a great experience! The rooms are large and the beds are comfy with foam tops. The service was exemplary from EVERYONE at the hotel!
Special shout out to Crawford (front desk mgr?) who started our stay off by finding us adjacent rooms, even though one of us had a king bed, and the other had 2 queens. When we asked where we could get cough medicine for my 11 year old son, he offered to pick it up for us, and would not take money from us for it! He wore many hats, driving the shuttle, being here at 11pm and back at 7am the next morning, as well as being a generally nice guy! Also shout out to Rey, the kitchen manager, who also drove the shuttle and was here all hours making sure we had great food service. Rey checked the ingredients for me to make sure everything was good, since I can’t eat gluten (celiac). Also want to thank the housekeeping staff for making fun montages with my 4-​year old’s stuffed animals on the sofa bed… The list goes on!
The neighborhood is in a business park area and is very quiet. There is a shopping center just a mile or two up the road, so if you want to have dinner somewhere else, or get groceries, it’s really easy. There’s a gas station across the way, with reasonable (for CA) prices, making it easy to refuel if you drove there. It’s only a few miles from Legoland, and with the free shuttle, it is super convenient! I would highly recommend a stay here if you’re going to Legoland! Free Wifi and free parking, both of which you would have to pay for at a «fancier» hotel. 5 star service at 3 star prices!

This is a beautiful hotel! I reserved early with a group and found the staff here very easy to work with. Great location work-​wise. The hotel itself is very clean and beautiful. My room also has an awesome balcony which I didnt expect!
The warm cookies at the lobby in the evenings is a wonderful treat. I had an amazing stay and really enjoyed the outside patio as well as the bistro in the downstairs lobby.

We stayed here for our 2 nights/​3 day weekend (Columbus) to once again visit Legoland for their Brick or Treat Halloween event. After an unpleasant stay in Residence Inn Carlsbad, this hotel was suggested to me by Marriott Elite customer service.
My initial conversation with Brooke (over the phone) was not impressive. She was in a hurry but not rude. So, I was actually not expecting much from this hotel. However, upon arrival, I was greeted by a warm and friendly Brooke. She took time to point out their amenities and made sure my room had the mini fridge I requested for my son’s milk. The hotel was smaller than I thought but clean and pleasantly designed. The complimentary breakfast was above average. It’s cook to order; not buffet style. The staffs were pleasant, friendly and actually take time to chat with us (even on busy days). They asked how our day was going, what our plans for the day and how our stay at their hotel was going so far. They would also suggest activities or places to go around the area. Now, that’s welcoming!
Our rooms was an average category 4 setup; clean, decently designed and well furnished as expected of a Marriott chain hotels. We booked 2 connecting rooms and were given the first floor rooms with balcony leading to the hotel pool/​spa and fireplace. It’s very convenient if you want to use their pool/​spa. We also enjoyed the outdoor fireplace at nights after a swim.
The icemaker machine on 1^st and 2^nd floor was out of service the whole time we were there, but was surprised when housekeeping offered to fill our cooler with ice on our way to our LEGOLAND trek.
Overall, this Courtyard Marriott Hotel is an average 3 stars rating establishment, in my opinion. However, the staffs sincerity and friendliness bump their ratings up to 4 stars. We had a pleasant and a stress free time here. We will surely visit them again on our next LEGOLAND trek, which is long overdue.

Stayed here while passing through on a business trip. The hotel offers basically the standard suburban Courtyard arrangement. There was renovation work going on when I stayed. Noise was not an issue, though quality of the work is. I was told I was being given an already-​renovated room… Well, the floor was uneven and creaky, and the window frame was bent out of shape such that the window couldn’t close and latch securely! I hate to imagine what the place was like before they started fixing it up.
This hotel’s in an office park area with no food options nearby. You’ll have to get back in your car and drive a few miles.
