Fairfield Inn & Suites – San Diego Carlsbad

Pros: Nice welcoming staff, free breakfast daily, clean and modern rooms, close to Legoland, gym room, and big fire pit area.
Cons: No jacuzzi, additional for «kitchen area» is just a microwave and mini fridge.
Overall this hotel was great !

Very nice hotel. Front desk staff is very accommodating. Pool is heated. Rooms are clean. Can’t complain. Free hot breakfast. Some days sausage patties and links the other days with scrabbled eggs on all days. Awesome TVs in lobby and dining area. Was able to watch the Warriors and shark games very comfortably.

I’m saddened to write a negative review as I always choose a Marriott hotel for my travels. I planned a fun-​filled exciting weekend with my family and it got cancelled because of this hotel. After a fun day at Legoland, we visited the outlets and had dinner and headed over to check in so my kids can go swimming and relax. Upon checkin, the manager informed me that the room I reserved, a 2 queen suite was not available and unfortunately the other room they had was experiencing electrical issues. She did offer a standard room which I declined. I should have been notified via email or phone prior to my arrival. Very sad to say we cut our mini vacation short thanks to this hotel. I guess on a good note, I saved $ 250 by not staying here.

Bottom Line: Clean, modern and convenient with the best hotel staff in Carlsbad.
As a long time Carlsbad resident and now a monthly visitor to Carlsbad, I’ve stayed in Carlsbad’s all three Marriott properties, two Hilton properties, Park Hyatt Aviara, La Costa Resort and a few others. I can honestly say that this hotel has the most sincere and hospitable staff. Everyone here is very nice and welcoming. When working in hospitality, you are supposed to be very cherry and accommodating but I truly believe the staff here is comprised of kind and sensible people who are welcoming by nature, not because its a job responsibility. That, coupled with an engaged management team, makes for a great experience.
The great things about this hotel expands beyond the staff and for me the high points are as follows:
— Centrally located in Carlsbad.
— Fair rates.
— Nice lobby area with a business center and huge (90″?) TVs
— Pool, hot tub and fire pit for those who want to enjoy some outside time.
— Breakfast buffet with healthy and hearty options in the lobby starting at 6;30am
— A variety of room sizes. The basic room is kinda small and the King Suite feels decadent when its just me.
— Large bright bathrooms. Many have big walk in showers. If you need a tub, be sure to ask.
— Comfortable bed centered in front of a 55″ Samsung TV
— In room microwave and fridge that is good for leftovers, cocktails, baby essentials, etc.
— Admittedly, this is very close to LEGOLAND too although as a business traveler, I do want to keep that on the down low. :-)
Circling back to the microwave and fridge that are good for leftovers, here are a few of my favorite local restaurants very close to the hotel. This is good to know since the Fairfield Inn does not have any food service other than the daily breakfast buffet.
— Craft Your Own (CYO) Pizza and Salad — Order fresh food at the counter and grab a seat. Beer and wine is served. Great for families. One mile east of the hotel.
— Karl Strauss — Great craft beer and good food. Two miles west of the hotel. Indoor and outdoor seating.
— Fish District — Super fresh and delicious fish dishes. Order at the counter and grab a seat, although seating is limited so its not great for groups. It can be a bit pricey but I think its worth it. Beer and wine is served.
The only drawback to this hotel is that it can be loud at times. Being on the third floor really helps and if you stay here during a least popular time of year to visit LEGOLAND, I find the noise is much better! Also, I wish the fitness center was bigger.

I stayed here over the weekend with my family on our way to legoland. I initially was trying to book at legoland hotel but they were sold out. Very last minute I got on Unilocal and read great reviews for this hotel. Especially for people with families. I really enjoyed my stay here. I got a 2 queen suite with a sofa bed. perfect for our family of 6. The room was very spacious. The complimentary breakfast was great. Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was very clean. However when we were checking out we always check under the beds to make sure we don’t leave anything behind, well we did find a un popped bag of popcorn under one of the beds. (no big deal) The pool looked nice but the weather did not allow us to go outside … I called the front desk twice and both times they had speedy service. Overall I was extremely satisfied and would most definitely stay there again while traveling to Carlsbad.

Excellent value for the money. Stayed here with my family after a day at Legoland. The room was very clean and spacious. My hubby did his thorough inspection and was very happy with how clean the room was. The suite we stayed in had two queen beds and a sofa bed. Definitely enough room for my family of four. The hotel is located about 1 ½ miles from Legoland off of the main road. Super easy to get to and access. Great location for families and we will definitely return next time we are in town.

Nothing more i could ask for… the staff were all friendly. Room is very clean and new! Its a gem.

Stayed at this new hotel over one night for a volleyball tournament. I was very delighted with the newly built location and the huge rooms. Very modern, free breakfast. Got my bill wrong but fixed it quickly. Pleasant stay!!!

Stayed over the weekend while we visited Legoland.
Hotel was really nice and clean. Room was a bit small but still comfortable.
Breakfast was amazing. We will definitely stay there again.

What: Staying while relocating to Dan Diego
When: Weekend stay
Environment: Friendly, open floor plan, new, clean, overall impressive facility.
How’d they do: Overall they did very well, they were accommodating with finding us two rooms that had connecting doors so my wife and I could have our own room but keep the door open to all our kids when we wanted to.
Recommendations: I would recommend the mini suites with two queens and a pull out for a family of 6 on a budget. They can easily sleep 6 but he 1 King and a pullout with connecting rooms is nice as well for privacy if you can afford two rooms for your stay.
Pros: Brand new property, not e remodel so as for now it’s all very fresh and clean.
Cons: The breakfast area gets a little crowded and they could use a few more items in there buffet style breakfast. Overall maybe a point below the stagnate Marriott breakfasts, but one can make do.
My tip: Enjoy the fire pit outside by the heated pool… You’ll love it

This hidden gem is tucked away off the major street and not very visible. Once off the main street, the Fairfield becomes visible. There is plenty of parking available out front, with a covered area just outside the front door, for protected loading and unloading of passengers and luggage. The hotel has luggage carts for use just inside the front door, which I took advantage of. It made hauling luggage for 5 people much easier.
Once inside, the décor was modern and the lobby was very clean and spacious. There is a large flat screen TV and some comfy couches, right next to a nice fireplace. The hostess who checked us in was very friendly, and had a great attitude. The elevators were conveniently located close to the reception area.
The room I got was a mini-​suite, which sleeps 5 people (two-​queens and a fold-​out sofa bed). The décor in the room was modern and the room was spacious. Even with 3 kids, I didn’t feel cramped. The bathroom was large and more than one kid could be in there without a fight or arguing haha. The amenities in the room were typical hotel type, but they did the job and I have no complaints.
The weather was cool, so we did not take advantage of the pool. Breakfast in the morning was decent. There was a good selection of options, from fruit to biscuits and gravy. My kids enjoyed making their own waffles… that was the highlight for them. If you get downstairs early enough, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a place to sit and eat. You can always take the food up to the room.
Each time I came downstairs, it seemed like there was a different host/​hostess at the counter. All of them were pleasant and greeted me. I would highly recommend the Fairfield to others. The hotel is kid friendly, and I was pleased with every aspect of my stay.

we loved it here. it says it’s a 2.5 star hotel but it opened in may of 2015 so it’s a new property. very clean, wonderful staff, and the beds and pillows are still nice and fluffy. their breakfast area has a few tables with personal TV’s which worked great for my kids. free breakfast and free parking is always a plus too. there was 6 of us traveling so a 2 queen with sofa room had lots of space for everyone.

Great for families with kids. Clean newer hotel, heated pool, coin op laundry, free wi-​fi and it works pretty well at the pool area, free breakfast, free parking, slept well for the much needed rest after Legoland. Ms. L. Testa of the front desk and staff are awesome.

I reserved this room last minute through
for $ 99.00. I was greeted by Katie. She was so pleasant and nice. The room was fantastic. They have a keyless entry system (Which is new for me), but it is cool. When you walk into the room, there is a microwave and refrigerator waiting to be used. The room itself was big and the bed just feels clean and new. I loved the walk in shower. I have no complaints for the location.
I almost forgot… Buffet style breakfast was included. They have 3 stalls that have tvs’ for kids. The food is good, but I wish they would have served potatos with breakfast.

Love this places nice and clean. Customer service was fabulous Lorna at the front desk I hope I got her name right… went out of her way for me and my family. Called to check earlier because we got in to town super early no room at frist but she was able to work her magic and get us a room. Again thank you so much. she even called to check up on us to make sure we where fine. now that is customer service..

In the area attending our son’s graduation. Stayed at this place for a few days. Found it very clean, easy to access from the freeway, quiet, and having friendly, helpful staff. Mario at the front desk was exceptionally friendly and pleasant. The exercise room is small but adequate.
If needed, we’d definitely return to stay here again.

This was my kids first experience in a hotel, and I glad it was this one.

This hotel has been open for a little over four months. Decided to stay here and check out the area. The regular rooms are a bit in the small side, but the hotel is super modern and have all the regular amenities including a pool, gym, jacuzzi, wifi and even a fire pit. The wifi was a bit on the slow side, but still did the job. The lounge area was very open and inviting and they even served coffee all day long. In the morning a small breakfast is included with eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, waffles, bagels, toast, cereal and even hard boiled eggs. This breakfast is really meant more for the kids IMHO, as it wasn’t all that great, as you will find out if you try it. Lots of screaming kids as most seem to stay here and then go to Lego Land, as we found out. There were many screaming kids on our floor with the doors constantly opening and closing all night long. I probably won’t stay here again, but overall it was just ok.

Was only here for a short stay, but I’ve got no complaints.

Very nice hotel. Very modern and brand new built this year. Very clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff, especially the front desk attendant. His name is Phil. He was very helpful and friendly. He answered all questions and satisfied all our needs. He went above and beyond most hotel employees. I would definitely stay here again when in San Diego area and recommend this hotel to others. We’ve stayed in Carlsbad many times to go to Legoland. I happened upon this hotel on a booking site and chose it because it was a great deal. The property is newer, clean and modern.
We stayed in a King Suite which was very large with a pull out sofa for our son. Our room was right next to the elevator but we didn’t hear any noise from that. The bathroom was large and clean with a big walk-​in shower. The extra touches of a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave were nice. Check in was very simple.
Katie at the front desk was incredibly nice and it seemed like she was always there, morning and night, always with a smile on her face.
The free breakfast was a great spread with eggs and sausage and make-​your-​own waffles, as well as hot oatmeal, cold cereals, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, English muffins and blueberry muffins. Fresh fruit, juices and coffee rounded out the breakfast. A great way to start your day.
They also had a smaller pool but it was heated and was plenty big for our son to go night swimming. One day they ran out of towels and the front desk staff delivered some out to the pool for us. They also had a nice fire pit outside but we didn’t have time to hang out there.
Although it was away from the coast, it was about a 4 minute drive to Legoland and the outlets. Very easy to get to and convenient for all the places we needed to go. We would definitely stay here again!

So this hotel just opened this year, as you walk in you can tell it’s clean and new. We didn’t get to try pool or gym since we were only there one night while visiting local attractions. Upon checking in, we were welcomed with smiles. Our reservations was for 2 queen bed suite however I guess they ran out of them bc of a wedding in the area. I thought that was strange since that s what reservations are for, right? However since it was only for one night and there were 3 adults and one toddler, no biggie. Bonus bc of the inconvenience, he gave us 10% off the room rate. Beds are super comfy, that’s why I stay at Marriott chains almost exclusively.
Room was decorated nicely, a/​c running well. Some little things were off: the lock on door doesnt open and shut smoothly probably bc hardware still new. The bathroom very modern, no tub in this room but huge walk in shower and very tall. You have to make sure you close glass door is shut well so water doesn’t splash out. There was issue with logging on to basic WiFii which is free for Marriott members. I guess it’s common bc hotel desk told me to call back if doesn’t work and he will connect me with IT support. So I tried again and had to be connected to IT dept, which manually added me to the WiFi system and resolved the problem. They have compact area that has a mini fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The place also gives you free breakfast from about 630 to 930 am. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, pork sausage links, oatmeal, cereals, make your own waffles, bagels, coffee, teas and hot coco. Eating outdoor was nice except theres occasionally bees. Definitely be back to stay next time we are in area.

Bottom Line: Hip, modern and clean, the Fairfield Inn is a welcome addition to Carlsbad.
As one who travels to Carlsbad monthly, I’m searching for a new home-​away-​from-​home and I think the brand new Fairfield Inn might be it. Of course new hotels are always nice and clean, but here are some other pros of this hotel:
— Centrally located in Carlsbad.
— Fair rates.
— Nice lobby area with a business center and huge (90″?) TVs
— Pool, hot tub and fire pit for those who want to enjoy some outside time.
— Breakfast buffet (eggs, sausage, oatmeal, cereal, fresh fruit, etc.) in the lobby
— Large bright bathrooms with backlit makeup mirrors and large walk in showers
— Comfortable bed centered in front of a 55″ Samsung TV
— Energetic and friendly staff
The main drawbacks to this hotel are the small rooms and shower doors that drip lots of water on the floor. I don’t mind the small room since I travel alone, but it would be tight for two people if staying there more than a few days. As far as the shower door goes, I now know to use both the bath mat and a towel to catch the water running off of the door and onto the bathroom floor. Unfortunately, that means I am leaving a sopping wet towel for the maid each morning.

Ok here’s what was good about this place, it was clean and new and the breakfast was pretty good… But it all goes down hill from there. We checked in at 3pm and after calling the front desk twice and waiting 4 hours we finally had to go get our extra pillows from the front desk. Also if you leave your room Any time after 12pm then don’t expect your room to be cleaned. I understand the hotel is new but the smells of plastic and paint was very overwhelming. They’re very understaffed so if you call for anything you will just be told to come get it for your self which is fine but the staff could at least be a little less rude about it. There’s no spa just a small pool. The wifi is super slow and kicks you off for no reason. I expect to hear some of the noises around me in a hotel but seriously the walls are paper thin. NOT WORTH THE MONEY AT ALL!!!

I was not expecting much. The hotel sounded like it was one of those old and dilapidated hotels preying on unsuspecting tourists. Boy, was I wrong! The place appears to be very new. The rooms are good sizes and smelled new. The AC was the older type but worked well. The bathroom was really impressive. The shower control was away from nozzles which was a nice touch. The towels are really good quality. The bed was firm but not too firm. The pillows are too thick but still nice.

Just opened a couple weeks back and still completing last touches. Nice property and good location. Room is nice with 55 inch TV, huge shower, comfortable bed, fridge, microwave, iron and coffee maker. They offer free full breakfast in the morning. Nothing special for gold level Marriott rewards members but I guess I need to hit the next level for that. We will come back if the price is right.

Friendly front desk staff. Their breakfasts are very good, the area is promptly attended to, kept clean and fully stocked. For breakfast they had waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee, breads and pastries.
Our room was spotless and loved the décor. If the quality is kept up I would definitely return. (I’m very happy with this choice and at peace that we chose to stay here over the Hilton spa resort) This hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes from Legoland and Burger Lounge!

Stayed here for 2 nights visiting from Phoenix to Los Angeles through San Diego going to SeaWorld. Was very surprised to find out that this hotel just opened in May of this year. For the price I paid for both nights, I couldn’t believe it. Check-​in process took less than 30 seconds as I was able to check-​in online using the mobile app, keys were ready for me when I arrived at the front desk. Free cold & hot breakfast served daily, free wi-​fi for you to use throughout the facility. Two computers to use at the lobby with free b&w printing. Nice fire pit outside by the pool during cold nights. Very comfortable beds to sleep in and bright bathroom with very modern décor shower area. Major props goes to Katie as she was the night shift agent and was able to answer some of my questions regarding the hotel and the surrounding area. Thank you for a great stay and I hope to see you all very soon again!
