A lifetime Carlsbad local, Ned attended Carlsbad High School and continued his education at Cal Poly Pamona where he obtained a Bachelor of Science graduating with Cum Laude honors. He began working for Golden Key Properties in 1983 under his mother, Dorothy Paterson, a Certified Property Manager & Certified Commercial Investment Member. Shortly thereafter, he acquired Golden Key as Owner/​Broker in 1985. Ned has held the title of Realtor of the Year by the Association of Oceanside Realtors. He also served as the President of the Oceanside Association of Realtors.

I am a property owner and have been with Golden Key Properties for a number of years. I recently went through a complete remodel from my early 1980’s home. Ned Paterson was most helpful in coordinating various contractors during the demolition to the reconstruction phase. I was very impressed with the quality of the final product and suggestions along the way to enhance the property. A special kudos to Dana Pruitt, my property manager who worked behind the scenes and later with the various prospective tenants to find the perfect match. My questions were always quickly addressed and her insight on improvement options were always appreciated. Although she has been with Golden Key Properties for about a year she has been in this service industry from day one. She is a «rock star» and I am a very happy client!

Years ago the owner of this business mismanaged my property in so many ways, I fired them and found someone else. He let a tenant run off with expensive appliances and did not bother to help recover them, had unauthorized «contractors» perform unrequested services and tried (unsuccessfully) to get me to pay for it, and was generally a terrible obnoxious person. Run away, don’t just walk away, from Golden Key.

Dana Pruitt is Top Shelf!
I started an apartment search online months before my move to Carlsbad. I am fortunate to have found Dana and Golden Key Properties. Dana is all business! Pleasant to deal with? Yes! Professional? Totally! But what impresses me the most is her efficiency. She is very direct, to the point, and does not sway from the questions or challenges at hand. You know where you stand with Dana, and for open issues she is quick to deliver final resolution or the proper guidance to get there.
I have been in real estate sales and development for 30 years. Dana would be a terrific asset for anyone in the business of sales or property management. If you are looking for a rental property, or have properties that you want rented or managed, I recommend grabbing Dana as your agent.

I’m finally getting settled in my new La Costa apartment and have to mention that I have really enjoyed working with Golden Key Properties.
Dana Pruitt was FANTASTIC to work with. She was detailed, provided prompt responses and really understood our particular situation. I was traveling out of the country and was able to communicate any questions regarding the lease agreement, move in details and arrange for deposit to secure the apartment. I couldn’t have done it without Dana’s help!
During the move in process there were a few things that needed maintenance attention. Dana clearly outlined items that needed to be addressed and within a couple days their vendor was able to resolve the issues.
Having worked in hospitality and customer service for over 15 years, I truly value being heard. Golden Keys has been an AWESOME example of that.
Feeling grateful for our new home!

Really, who rents an unfurnished apartment on a month-​to-​month basis? This company would not help out military looking to sign a one-​year lease. I didn’t end up in the apartment that I was looking at but it took them a few days to tell me what I already knew: they weren’t going to help me out. They don’t answer emails or calls promptly. You’ll have to chase them for answers.
Property manager came out promptly to show the property; he was nice. Apartment was very nice, but I attribute that to the owner, not to Golden Key.
For owners, be careful because these people turned away guaranteed rent payments for 12+ months. Wondering where your rent income is? I’d bet that you wouldn’t know it if your property was sitting vacant for months and you had someone at your door to pay you for a year.
Like the other reviews say, they’re looking to watch out for themselves. Be wary.

I’ve lived in a house managed by Golden Key for over 2 years and they have been professional and a fantastic management company. They’ve fixed anything needing attention and allowed me to move twice to bigger houses when they become available. Thanks Guys!

Worse property management I have ever dealt with. Extremely unprofessional, never return phone calls to the fact that you have to stop by their physical address to get anything done. Their bookkeeper Mary is an absolute train wreck, rude, unhappy individual who’s no help what so ever. They hire out vendors for repair work that ended up breaking a glass item of mine and never telling anyone or asking to replace it. They also never informed me that my house has flooding issues so my place flooded 5 times in one year and they even said they were aware of the problem but the owner doesn’t want to pay for fixing the entire problem. I will never use these guys again

I was going to list my home for rent with this agency until I met with some 20 something year old know it all blond trying to tell me that if I did not list my home at «her» suggest price that they were not interested in my business. Needless to say I was «Shocked».
I thought to myself who is this person with very little life experience much less business experience to tell me at what price to list my home. I’ve been a landlord for 25 years rented dozen of homes and not once did she consider I might have a little bit more experience then her and perhaps she should have listen to the «customer» a bit more before sharing her opinion.
I guess looking back I’m not surprised as I have experienced this behavior from this millennial generation over and over. They all think they are smarter then everyone and walk around with a sense of entitlement.
After about two minutes I literality walked out of her office. Obviously the owner of this company is either completely absent from their business or this person is his daughter or a complete idiot to allow such behavior from an associate.
I would highly recommend you «never» do business with this company! But of course just look at their reviews. There is another company i.e. La Costa Homes which I listed my home with. This company present themselves as real professionals and understand the value of a customer.

Me and my roommate had to go through tom mills of golden key properties to rent our new place. The place is great but Tom definitely wasn’t the best to work with. He would wait until the last minute when things were still up in the air to let us know we had until the end of that day to turn something in, so we would have to scramble to get it done. My roommate picked up the keys for our condo on the third only to find out they were the wrong keys. She left Tom a message and he still hasn’t returned the call. We have one key that we got from maintenance. He’s also just not that pleasant in general. When my roommate went to get the keys, the person at the desk barely asked who she was before just giving her the keys. We hope to avoid having to have any contact with the office in the future.
