CIrca 1915, we are a lovely Bed and Breakfast located in the quaint wine town of Carlton, Oregon. We offer a quaint, relaxed environment, with amazing breakfasts, within easy walking distance to nearly 2 dozen wineries and tasting rooms, including Carlton Cellars, DePonte, Ken Wright Cellars, K&M Winery, The Tasting Room, Noble Pig, Scott Paul, Seven of Hearts, Troon Vineyards, Twelve, Barking Frog Winery, Stone Griffin, just to name a few. Also within walking distance of some amazing restaurants, including Cuvee, The Horse Radish, Republic of Jam, Farmer’s Plate & Pantry, Henry’s, Barrow 47, The Carlton Bakery, Carlton Corners… and don’t miss the Honest Chocolates.

History

Established in 2005.

The Inn has a very fresh, colorful, and cheerful cottage-​like feel. Karen enjoys collecting art and has added pieces from the local artists, many are displayed in the guest rooms, and throughout the Inn.

Rooms range in price from $ 155 to $ 200 per night. Each charming guest room is simply decorated in a romantic cottage style, has its own bathroom, equipped with fluffy towels, bath and body products, blow dryer, and a comfortable king or queen-​sized bed encased in smooth, silky sheets and covered with a warm fluffy comforter. The Yamhill Suite has a private area furnished with a twin day-​bed for an additional person ($ 45 charge for additional guest).

My background has been in spa services, having owned and operated my own day spa for over 8 yrs, I bring to my Inn an understanding that while you want a relaxing place to get away, you want superior customer service as well as proximity to points of interest. We just got back from a quick trip to the Oregon Wine Country. We stayed in Carlton at the Carlton Inn. We would highly recommend it. Karen the innkeeper was just the right amount of friendly. We have stayed in many B&Bs. Sometimes it can feel like you are an intruder in their home, not here. Karen was informative and helpful but not looking to be our new best friend. Her breakfast was the tops. Everything was fresh and delicious. Her Inn is located within walking distance to many tasting rooms. The bed was super comfortable. We would highly recommend The Carlton Inn for a casual, easy stay. Thanks Karen! We will be back.

This place was a wonderful retreat. We felt such a relaxing peacefulness and all the little touches were so well thought out. Food was really great, the place felt homey yet romantic and the vibe was blissful. The bed was undeniably comfortable. There wasn’t one nook or cranny with a speck of dust or dirt. Such terrific hosting.

Karen (the owner) is super sweet and very accommodating. The rooms are quaint, quiet and breakfast was a homemade, sit down, full meal every morning. The inn is within walking distance to several wineries & restaurants in the downtown Carlton area, we would highly recommend staying here. FYI-​the downstairs suite is the largest room and the most secluded. We hope to see Karen again!

Date of stay, 5 – 2014. This review is a pleasure to write– it is so seldom that I find a business that clearly rises above the rest in every way, but the Carlton Inn has done just that and I would rate it higher than 5 stars if I could.
It is located perfectly– right in town and within walking distance of multiple restaurants, wine-​tasting rooms and general services such as the post office. The home itself is kept spotlessly clean, tastefully-​furnished and completely free of the «older home aromas» so common in a home of this vintage. The rooms are quiet and the beds very comfortable– noticeably better than what you’ll find in moderately-​priced hotels. I slept exceptionally well every night. The grounds surrounding the home are very well-​maintained and quite beautiful with a large variety of plants and a small garden that provides home-​grown, delicious breakfast fruits and vegetables.
I cannot say enough about the breakfast. Karen (the Inn Keeper) has set the bar so high in terms of serving incredible breakfasts that you will leave feeling completely, utterly spoiled beyond recognition. Imagine this: homemade granola with nuts (including local filberts), tomato basil frittata, mango/​strawberries with basil infused simple syrup, homemade yogurt (the best I’ve had), fresh, delicious coffee. The next morning was the creamy polenta with sautéed veggies and ham (from Carlton Farms), fresh strawberries, watermelon and kiwi with a delicious coconut/​lime cream sauce on it and the homemade yogurt and granola. I would go back again just to get the breakfast!
The home has fast wi-​fi throughout.
And finally, the main reason this B&B is now my personal favorite (having stayed in at least 20 – 25 over the several years) is the owner. Karen manages and operates this Inn better than any I have visited. You would think she was specifically designed for the job– attention to detail, professional (but very warm and friendly), an easy smile and always attentive to her guests.

We stayed at the Carlton Inn B&B for a couple nights while exploring the Willamatte Valley. We were greeted by Innkeeper Karen and the smell of fresh baked banana bread wafting from the kitchen. I don’t think the banan bread (being prepared for our breakfast in the morning) was planned to coincide with our arrival, but it took our already good first impression and put it over the top. Karen showed us around and gave us a little history on the 99 year old home at the same time. She took her time to tell us about the Inn’s amenities and some things to see and do around town. More specifically, since there aren’t a lot of places open to eat on a Monday night in Carlton, a new restaurant & pub within walking distance (Barrel 47).
We settled into our very comfortable room at the top of the stairs. We found bed found to be very, very comfortable. The sheet set had to be one of the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced. The bathroom has access from the sitting room connected to our room or by going across the hall. It was well stocked and immaculate.
The breakfasts we had the two mornings we were there, the meals were amazing! Karen sets the bar pretty high and consistently overachieves. The food was fresh and sumptuous each morning. I particularly liked her homemade granola and yogurt. There were always fresh baked goods to be had as well.
We would not hesitate to return to the Carlton Inn or to recommend to others.

Great home, great location, great hostess. That’s what makes a B&B, right?
We stayed two nights at this B&B in downtown Carleton and it made for an excellent weekend in the valley. The rooms are spacious and have en-​suite bathrooms with the so-​soft sheets. Breakfast is tasty and served up at 9am. There’s a nice living room sitting area with TV, a back patio for enjoying wine and social time, a full compliment of glassware for enjoying said wine time, and plenty of other home-​y options to make you feel comfy.
The location is super ultra convenient to all the tasting and dining options downtown. A short five or six block walk. Ideal. So if you don’t want to drive back to PDX after tasting or you’re from out of the area and need a home base, this is a great spot for it.

We just got back from a wonderful weekend in Oregon Wine Country, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Carlton Inn. The owner/​innkeeper Karen is an absolute delight and a wonderful chef. Her breakfast was served promptly at 9am (coffee & tea are out at 7:50am) and the fresh fare that she serves is perfect. Great flavors & very hearty for the long wine-​tasting day ahead. The house is clean & well-​maintained. The rooms are cozy (microfiber sheets!) and bright. The gardens are lovely & there is plenty of glassware for your take-​home bottles. The location of the Inn is very close to downtown Carlton, so you are able to easily walk to the local shops, cafes & wine tasting rooms.
Overall, a very enjoyable oasis in this sleepy little town. We’ll be back!

A 2 night stay at this lovely BnB. There is a new proprietor, Karen, is a delightful bubbly host. Fresh baked cookies in our room on arrival. Spotless rooms. It was a bit vacant mid-​week in Oregon wine country in the off-​season, but a very pleasant stay. Bed was comfy and cozy. Karen’s breakfasts were plentiful and tasty. We liked it so much we’ll probably stay here next time we’re in the area. It was an exceptionally pleasant stay and with the Unilocal deal it was a steal.
Of note Carlton is also particularly sleepy this time of year and not much in terms of dinner options We ate mostly in nearby McMinnville. There are some decent lunch options in town and though a number of wine tasting options on the weekends.

We are staying for 2 nights here using a Stash Tea coupon which Karen, the new owner, graciously accepted. Each room has a private bath. Breakfast this morning I described in my tip here — was superb.

What a great little home for a B&B. From the shiny and warm wood floors, to the lovely antique furnishings — it was very comfy and cozy staying here. But, when we got into our bed, the sheets, the sheets, were dreamy and soft as a baby’s skin or is it a kitten? Hokey I know, but true all the same! I actually ended up ordering some of my own sheets! It was either that or stealing them right off her bed! The bed itself also was very luxurious. The walls are NOT paper thin so we did not hear anyone though their room was right next door to ours.
The location is on the same street as all those wine tasting places so we could walk on home after we were through imbibing all that lovely and heady wine we drank.
And in the morning, fresh coffee, homemade and local blueberry scones, local pears/​peaches/​berries, homemade organic yogurt and granola, organic vegetarian fritatta with local basil, veggies topped off with black chocolate cherry tomatoes.
Not only is Karen a wonderful cook but she makes you feel instantly comfortable in her B&B.

I haven’t stayed in many B&Bs before, and after one night at The Carlton Inn, I’m completely hooked. Nestled in the middle of Oregon’s wine country, this inn was inviting and unbelievably comfortable. The proprietors, Edward and Heidi Yates, are as kind and friendly as can be, and at once I felt like I was staying the night in the house of an old friend.
There are 4 rooms — 3 have adjoining baths, and the fourth has a bathroom across the hall. In the morning, juice, coffee and teas were available at 7:30, and breakfast was served in the dining room at 9. All of the guests eat breakfast together — Edward and Heidi made the most unbelievable breakfast: it started with a fruit plate with pears, strawberries, oranges, cantaloupe, and raspberries, followed by fig and pecan scones, and homemade yogurt and homemade granola. The main course of breakfast was a wild Chanterelle and roasted red pepper frittata garnished with Danish blue cheese, fried sweet potatoes, and an assortment of heirloom tomatoes.
For the meal, company, and a comfortable stay, a price of $ 125 for two was unbelievably reasonable. HIGHLY recommended. This place is a gem!
