Ovi and team were fantastic. I had a very unsexy project at my house (resupporting an old front porch), and Ovi quoted it very reasonably, he and his team completed the work quickly, and they did a great job. Highly recommended!

It’s a family company and his father is involved in several impactful decisions along the way. We used Ovi and his group for a roofdeck, which was not an easy project. After receiving other bids, I told Ovi I wanted to work with him and to make the project work with my budget. He did exactly that. Not a dollar over budget unless we all agreed that we wanted to make small improvements along the way. He is present often and always returns calls/​emails. Any work we do to our house in the future will be through Ovi. His company wasn’t the cheapest, but wasn’t the most expensive and they finished the project early.
Once you meet him, you’ll understand why the reviews are so good. He’s busy for good reasons!

We had a pergola built on our roof deck by 4GC and they were fantastic! Ovi came by and talked through all our options. He was very clear and concise about what would be best for us. We were very specific in what we wanted and 4GC were easily able to accommodate our choices. They helped us manage our budget and were not interested in upselling us or adding features we didn’t want. Once everything had been decided they were very quick to put together their estimate and start work. The workmen who did the construction were very nice and professional. They took less than three days to finish the job. The finished pergola looks great and is very sturdy. We couldn’t be happier with 4GC.

I had 4^th Generation repair my wood fence. They did a good job, did they what they said they would, and cleaned up after they were done. What was most impressive was the prompt communication in terms of any questions I had and coming out for an estimate on time. Ovi, the project manager, was very helpful and easy to deal with. He did a thorough job of explaining what work they would do and explained everything in detail. They are busy, so be warned it could take a while to get your project in the queue, but other than that, was a good experience.

Outstanding company! From the first call until the finished product, Ovi kept us well informed. His father Joe and the other carpenter Bob were friendly and professional. We had lengthy discussions on my project and we started during early «spring.» I completely understood weather dictates everything, and I understand as well they have to take other projects and you can’t be too wisshy-​wasshy about starting a project.
I had time though, and I let Ovi know. He was amazingly accommodating. It took me a few months to finally get my own composite for them to install, per contract, and they did a stellar job. I had bad experiences with other contractors, but Ovi did not disappoint.
I have extensive experience with every level of contractor, and I can say Ovi, his Father and his Crew should be the bench mark of how contractors should behave.

Ovi and his team were amazing! We hired them to do a privacy fence, and they were very responsive and had it up within a week of booking the job. They were quick, clean, and courteous. I would hire them again for all decking needs in a heartbeat!

Do yourself a favor with any decking project and hire 4GC. These guys are fantastic. They have been in the business for 4 generations and they show it. They truly care about the projects that they take on. I reached out to a number of contractors who started giving me the run around. They were quoting numbers for the project that seemed to come out of nowhere. I would ask where these numbers came from and they couldn’t seem to make them add up. 4GC was very transparent with numbers and also about timelines. I asked them to take on this project late in their season while they were extremely busy, however, they were able to squeeze our deck in with out cutting a single corner.
While getting underway with our new deck we thought it would be best to put down a new layer of roofing (we are new homeowners and didn’t want to build a new deck and then realize that we needed a new layer of roof in a few years). They responded quickly to this audible and had a new layer of roof and caulking completed in a day.
They were quick, clean, and extremely courteous. We are in a townhouse complex in River North with some particular neighbors who like to complain for the sake of complaining. The entire time that Ovi and his crew were working at our place, I did not receive a single complaint from our neighbors. They demo’d the old deck, they laid down a new roof, they built a beautiful deck that covers our entire roof and at the end of each day, they left the area in better shape then when they started.
The deck is beautiful. They really did an outstanding job delivering exactly what it is we wanted. Their attention to detail was impressive. They even built us some additional planter boxes and decorative fencing they highlighted the impressive space. I could not be more proud of this new ‘outdoor living room’ that they built for us.
There was even a minor issue with a sealant that was used to protect the wood. I believe that this was a bad batch from the manufacturer but after the winter we went on our deck to find a layer of oil on all of our brand new wood. I called Ovi to come by for a look so that we could discuss what a possible solution would be. He immediately called me back and had his guys coming over the next morning to treat the wood and power wash it. It is back to it’s like new condition and I am extremely grateful for how Ovi handled this scary situation.
I have worked with many contractors on many different projects. I have never had a better experience than I did with the team at 4GC. I have referred a few friends over to them and I will continue singing their praises. These guys know their stuff and have some of the best customer service around.

Ovi was extremely helpful and detailed with his inspection for our condo association’s rooftop issues. Additionally, the 4GC crew was swift and responsive to our timing issues and the difficulty of scheduling a multi unit building around everyone’s conflicts. The quality of work after the repairs was of high quality and we have had no roof issues since.

The team at 4^th Generation Construction just finished our deck. A deck I initially wanted completely torn down and replaced with a patio. Due to budget this was not an option, therefore we worked with Ovi to «tweak» the deck and boy am I glad we did not tear it down. It is a beautiful finished product that we will enjoy for many Summers. Ovi was very professional from day 1 and forthcoming about their busy schedule and we were made aware of when our project would get started. When it did get started we were very pleased with how pleasant everyone was to work with and as another reviewer mentioned very clean. When we would return home everything was cleaned up beautifully. This was important as we have a dog and I did not want to find nails and other materials laying in our yard (or stuck in his paws)!

When deciding to redo our very large roof deck a few months back I had several contractors come out. Ovi was the most likable by a long shot, and also the only person who seemed to understand that I may not have an endless supply of money, and was completely on board with doing a more basic deck (albeit a large one — appx 1500 sq feet) and adding fun details to it in the future. After the experience with them I’ll definitely be using 4^th Gen for future projects.
First off they repaired our roof. It used to leak terribly into our rear hallway each time it rained. Since the repair we have had some of the worst storms I’ve witnessed in my 7+ years in Chicago, and not a drop made it in. I’m very happy with the repair.
Next up the actual roof deck construction. I’m not going to lie, there were a few communication snafus, but Ovi was always eager to fix things, and in the end we had a great product for what I truly think was a great price. The deck is simply lovely, and the team who built it was fantastic. I look forward to working with 4^th Gen again in the future to make our already fabulous roof even more fantastic.

I am upgrading my review to 3* because these guys worked really hard to correct their mistake. They came by after hours to take measurements and turned around an estimate the next day…

Had a fence estimate scheduled for Saturday morning. Called estimator at 9 am to see what time he was planning to arrive – no answer. Called him again at 11:30 am – no answer. Finally got a voice mail from him around noon with a list of excuses including broken down truck, lost cell phone, dog ate homework, etc. I understand that stuff happens sometimes, but the kicker was (1) no call to let me know and (2) he told me I would have to get back in line and call back myself to re-​schedule another appointment. Not even an offer to fix their mistake by coming out at a time convenient for me. Thanks for killing a Saturday morning in June guys!

Ovi and his father were wonderful to work with. I hired them after receiving 3 bids for our deck. Ovi listened to all of my ideas (I am a designer), and he was really open while letting me know what was best on the build side. I even changed my mind midstream, and they adjusted the deck. I can be very picky and detailed, and they were very accommodating. They made sure my needs and requests were met. We get so many compliments on our deck, and we can finally spend quality time outside. Thanks Ovi!

Emailed twice, once where the email inbox was full — called and left voicemail for quote /​appointment. No response or acknowledgement after these multiple attempts.

We hired 4^th Generation Construction to help repair a few posts in our backyard fence. Ovi arrived for the initial meeting on time (!) and was incredibly professional and courteous. After his estimate and the timing he guaranteed to complete the job, we hired them. His team came in and underdelivered from what was outlined in the agreement (only put in three posts of the five that had been discussed). To be honest, I wasn’t that happy, but… BUT… I talked to Ovi about it and he made it right. That day he sent out the team to put in another post and deliver a final product I was really happy with. At the end of the day, they did a good job and I think Ovi’s commitement to customer service and making his customers happy is worth its weight in gold. We are planning much bigger home renovation jobs and because he made it right, there’s a high probability we’ll work together again.

About a year ago, we moved into a new house that needed a great deal of renovation. We first tackled the interior of the house, deferring any work on the exterior until this year. Well, the time came for us to tackle the backyard that needed major work. As part of the overall effort, we decided to replace a mud room with a cedar deck. The deck plays a significant role in the overall look and feel of the design.
After a long search and a bit of homework, we made the decision to contract 4GC. Ovi responded very promptly and came over to spend time understanding what we were looking to accomplish. After a good discussion and exchange of ideas, he made some really good recommendations that resulted in a plan for nice size deck covered with a pergola.
Prior to the project starting, we needed to have work done on brick siding of our house. While this is not a service offered by 4GC, Ovi was gracious enough to recommend someone who did masonry work on his personal residence. The masonry work was promptly done and very nice.
Ovi was now ready to start on his part of the work. His team, led by Anghel, was nothing short of outstanding. The deck is beautiful, the workmanship was superb. They demonstrated the highest level of professionalism; it was great to see trades take pride in their work and strive to deliver excellence — qualities you seldom see these days.
Outside of one minor detail regarding the type of fasteners used (nails versus screws), which was partially my fault for not specifying, I have no complaints. Needless to say, I would not hesitate to contract their services again. If you are looking for great work, done efficiently and quickly without sacrificing quality, I highly recommend using 4GC.

We contacted 4^th Generation Construction as part of a 3 bid review process for a new fence, patio extension and pergola. Ovi came over and spent a lot of time understanding what we wanted and gave us thoughtful options for both design and function within our budget.
We ended up with a beautiful shadowbox design cedar fence and pergola from 4^th Generation and Ovi suggested pavers (our existing design) for our patio extension, which is not a service they provide but offered a great contact to complete that portion of the project quickly and at a great price.
Our experience with Ovi and his team was fantastic! Work was completed on time, on budget and the team worked very quietly and left each day leaving the yard better than they found it. I work from home and the construction was never interrupting to my day.
We are very happy with the results and the service and professionalism makes us want to tell everyone about 4^th Generation!

Ovi and his team did wonders on our rooftop deck. Our old deck was worn out to say the least. We actually brought in Ovi last Fall to look at a possible roof leak (which his father fixed in less than a day) and we talked to him about possibly redoing the deck the following Spring. He sent us a quote the following day which was faster than expected.
This past May, we signed the contract for 4^th Generation to redo our deck (60′ x 18′). Upon signing, Ovi let us know that it would probably take 7 — 10 days to remove the old deck, install the new deck and build the pergola. It took them less than a day to tear out half of the old one and replace it and another day to finish it, so in two days, we had our new deck! Then they took a day to build the structure for the pergola. They actually did a custom side for us which looks great in 4 days of actual work.
All in all we have a great new deck, the work they did was very fast and very well done and they couldn’t be nicer to do business with. I highly recommend 4^th Generation Construction for any work you need done; they will certainly get my business again.

Working with Ovi and the team was great. They were incredibly skilled, quick and thoughtful about their work. The job did change a bit once we started — which can cause some anxiety — but Ovi was super patient and always provided great alternative options to consider. I should also mention that 4^th Generation had to work in partnership with another contractor group we had hired for other jobs — Ovi took the lead in coordinating with the other group and it as seamless for us.
We found Ovi b/​c he was very highly recommended by the contractor from Gary’s Finer Landscaping — who also did some wonderful landscaping for us.
Ovi and the team at 4^th Generation were hired to do several jobs. We are totally satisfied with the work, the crew was very professional and they are incredibly skilled. It was also a pleasure to work through Ovi who responded to all our calls, emails and worries.
First, they ripped out about 100ft of an old falling down steel backyard fence that had become over grown with trees, weeds and bushes. They built a brand new cedar 4ft fence in a dog ear style. Beautiful. My neighbor has told me a dozen times how wonderful it looks.
Second, they removed 6 large windows in the back of our kitchen and replaced with a sliding glass door + 6 foot wide landing/​stair steps down to a brick patio. This project required they remove sliding, re-​frame the door, reside the back of the house, dig footers, build a staircase and paint the inside of the kitchen when the door was installed.
Third, they rebuild a set of old rotten stairs that is a secondary entrance to the house. This required some demolition, digging/​pouring new footers b/​c the old stairs were not built to code (unforeseen extra work that was not charged!), and a total rebuild of the stairs.
Fourth, they built a beautiful cedar fence across our driveway as a safety feature to keep our children away from cars and the busy street we live on. The cedar fence is about 12 feet long and opens in the middle. Huge peace of mind for us :)
