Martin Lorenzo owner of Affordable handyman Inc. began his technical and repair ventures in his home town of Buenos Aires — Argentina. After graduating from an elite technical school in BA in 1991 and doing electrical installs as a side job for friends and family, this trade gave him the opportunity to ride along his other passion: Martial Arts.

Inmigrant to the United States and resident of Chicago since 2001, Martin started fixing stuff at home, then as an electrician for a remodeling company and then to a famous home repair franchise, but MR. was not patient enough to let Martin show his real potential and then that was the great oppportunity were Affordable Handyman Inc. started.

Since then, May 2005, word of mouth referrals, position Martin and Affordable Handyman as one of the most trusted home repair services in the Chicago area. Honesty, reliability and a one man show that really tries to save homeowners money instead of the usual rip off was the key for success.

Let me tell you about Martin. Don’t bother to call anyone else. This guy is good. Very good. I am a rather handy man myself. I know how to fix a lot of things and I can figure out almost any job so I find it very difficult to call a handyman when I need help or don’t have the time, the tools or the ability to get something done. I also find it hard to trust contractors of any sort because let’s face it, they aren’t always the most honest people you meet. Martin is both honest and highly qualified and unbelievably reasonable for the work he provides. I had a problem where I discovered that the builder of my apartment apparently never installed the duct work for my bathroom exhaust fan when it was built in 2003. that meant retrofitting a duct inside the ceiling of my apartment (under the floor of the apartment upstairs) to the outside vent. I knew what needed to be done but was nervous about getting it done and doing it right. I asked Martin to come look at the job and he and I discussed a strategy for the install. What would have taken me at least a day and a half, Martin did in about 7 hours. He worked late on a Friday night (9pm) because he knew I was flying out of town the next morning and needed to get the job done. Not only was the quality of the install fantastic but then he cleaned up the bathroom like it was his own home. spotless. The guy has integrity, skill and he’s one heck of a person. Do yourself a favor. when you need help, turn the job over to Martin. You won’t be sorry. Oh, and he was incredibly punctual and communicative so ignore the couple of bad reviews. This guy is a real gem.

I had to have a flapper on my toilet replaced. It’s a simple job, I know. However, I’m not handy at all. Martin came in, went through his pile of replacements, and finished the job in about a half-​hour. Because it took less than 30 minutes, he charged half his hourly rate, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

Martin accepted a job with me, then was completely unresponsive to emails and attempts to confirm the date, other than to once respond and push it out a few weeks. No response to any inquiries after that, so my tenant was left waiting and waiting and I had to find someone else. He needs to understand that its also others’ livelihood dependent on both sides being professional, not just his.
I cannot recommend him at all since he wasted so much of my time.

I emailed and left over 3 voicemails and made several attempts at calling to get information and set up an appointment. It’s been a week and no one has returned my email or calls. Not good business standards. I went with Mr. Handyman. They got back to me promptly and have communicated quickly and efficiently.

Martin is awesome! I’ve used his services for some plumbing work and for some other odd jobs around the house (mounting a big screen tv, etc). When I first bought my home the previous owner disclosed that the garbage disposal didn’t work and needed to be replaced. I found Martin on Unilocal and figured I’d give him a try for the installation based on the positive reviews. He said he could buy me a new garbage disposal and I could pay him for it or I could go to some place like Home Depot or Lowes and buy my own. I opted for the latter assuming it’d be cheaper and he came to install it. Upon inspecting my current garbage disposal, he said that he could actually fix it and I could return the new one and save some money. I appreciated his honesty and he did a good job repairing the disposal. I also had Martin mount a 55 inch tv in my living room. He went to best buy to purchase the mount (at my request) and brought me the receipt so I knew exactly how much it cost him. Again, the honesty and transparency was great and the installation went well.
Martin always does a great job and I will continue to use him as my handyman. I’ll also add that he is very personable, hard-​working and honest and I have never felt unsafe or uncomfortable with him in my home. I would highly recommend him to any of my friends or family.

Martin was hard-​working, professional and honest. I am so glad I called him after reading his great reviews on here. He answered my call, set up a time to look at my place and sent several texts and pictures with updates and information. I had him pull up carpeting and replace it with tile. He also replaced a faucet and fixed a window. He gave me receipts to verify the cost of materials. He is very fair with his pricing. I left him alone with the keys to my place and never worried once. The work he did looks great, and I will be using him for all future needs. He worked later than he originally anticipated and even came back after already being paid to touch up some work for a couple of hours. I am impressed and grateful!

I cant say enough about Martin, his ability, his services and top notch customer service. He installed two toilets, fixed a leaky sink and repaired an outlet. I have a small list of other things I need done~~I’m keeping my fingers crossed he will be available.
Guys like him are rare. He’s in high demand for a good reason.

Martin was extremely helpful and professional on his recent visit to help me build a bookshelf and hang some artwork. From start to finish, Martin made sure everything was set exactly how I wanted it and even offered to help me hang some other pieces while he was here. Clean careful timely and definitely talented! I had Affordable Handyman Service (Martin and Crew) build out my walk-​in closet to meet MY specifications. Not elfa or wire shelves but true sturdy quality construction. He listened to my requests and was able to complete the project on my timeline. He was always respectful of my space while having heavy construction tools in my unit.

Martin, the owner, came to my home to help me with various projects. I’m recently going through a divorce, and quite frankly don’t have the time or desire to change a million light bulbs or become Ms. DYI! Even though I like the idea of being an independent woman, it was nice to have someone come over who was friendly, professional and able to fix things in the house I couldn’t manage (a broken door handle, a light fixture, etc.) Martin handled my entire list, which included removing old alarm keypads and «drywalling» (is that a word?) and painting. He really can do everything! He is also starting a bigger project for me… turning my ex’s home office into my home gym! Definitely a company I will keep on speed dial and share with my friends… both married and divorced!

I had the best experience with this company. I bought a loft in the South Loop and wanted to upgrade the bathroom. I started to do the job with the help of my sister, but it got complicated when we had to move the electrical box. I called Martin right before the Thanksgiving holiday. He got back to me right away and because I would be spending the holiday out of town, we scheduled something for the Monday after. He texted to let me know he was running a little late. When he arrived he did every job I had for him (little and big). He showed me how to do some things that I wanted to learn and he cleaned up everything before he left. What a joy! I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I highly recommend Martin for any handy work! I called him this morning and he was able to come in and install my garbage disposal same day within hours. I still had not bought my disposal but informed me of a few brands that he says have a long useful life. We were watching the Bears game while he was doing the repair and I swear I blinked and he was done without a hassle. Martin gave me the paperwork that came with the system (2-​year warranty and guide). Martin also gave me tips on how to keep the disposal less smelly and how to clear it out if it jams, as a person not too handy I found the information quite useful. Martins prices were affordable especially compared to other handymen and plumbers who actually were charging 3x’s Martins rate. I would highly recommend and use again for any other work needed around the house. Thanks again for your work Martin! :)

Martin and his crew are the BEST! We’ve used a few different handymen in the Chicago area over the years, and his services and work were of the highest quality. They painted the back of our built-​in shelves, repaired our lamp, changed 3 light fixtures and painted two bathrooms. I highly recommend Martin and his team. His kindness and patience is an added bonus the wonderful work he does.

Man, Martin is great handyman! Not only was he prompt in returning my phone call and helping me with scheduling a time to come out and give me an estimate, but he was also incredibly understanding when I was running late to meet him for my estimate.
He walked me through what could be done, tried to narrow down what the cause of my mysterious ceiling stains could be, and then even came with me to my neighbors units to see if we could narrow down the location/​cause of the water leak.
He was also very upfront about what I should do and gave me tips as to how I could get the most bang out of my buck OR make the estimate cheaper (by providing my own paint, for example). Martin is simply the best.

Martin is the best handyman. I needed to hang a 50 lbs replica bull head on a wall that is 12 feet high and knew there was no way I would be able to do this on my own. I called Martin and he came to my house to check out the bull head and look at the wall where I wanted to mount the head. He found the studs to be too far apart as they were 16 inches apart and the bull head was only about 9 inches wide. Martin came back a day later with a solid wood board to mount the head on and them mounted the board to the studs! He even took the time to paint the board to match the trim in our house and beveled the edges of the board to make it look amazing!
I would highly recommend!
