Blackbird Gallery + Framing

I had a print framed here and was very happy with the final product, customer service, turnaround time and pricing. The person who assisted me was very helpful (in terms of providing information about the best framing/​matting options for the print), and the turnaround time was 1 week. Definitely recommend checking them out!

This shop did a great job on a picture for my wife. I would much rather give my money to this shop than one of the large franchise framing shops that charge much more.

I had a map framed here very recently and am extremely happy with the quality and look of the piece. The staff is great, there’s tons of cool frame jobs in their little reception area, and they really worked with my price point to get me the best frame for my budget. I will definitely be taking future projects here.

After having a good experience twice before we returned to Blackbird to have four pieces done. We arrived early and Doug opened the store for us and did a great job selecting frames and matting that complemented our pieces. Everything was ready for pick-​up one week after placing the order, which was great.

Love this place… Not only are they of the highest quality but I’ve brought several challenging pieces to them (e.g custom three dimensional display case, floating mount art that can be viewed from both sides, and more) and they nailed it.
I won’t go anyplace else and neither should you!

Customer service does not seem to be a priority at Blackbird framing. There seems to be a lack of follow-​through, communication and or follow up. I will remove this one star review if I ever get my calls returned. I don’t know if it’s ignorance, lack of business acumen or simply artistic air-​headedness, but someone needs to get on the ball!

I recently got two pieces framed by Michael, and I loved both of them! Michael was so friendly and also patient as he explained all the different options with frames and matting styles. One of the pieces was a delicate, crumpled calligraphy painting by my late grandfather, and he was able to flatten it out and mount it beautifully — I think my grandfather would have loved it!

We are thrilled with this small, awesome framing shop. We’ve now used them for the gamut of services — from basic poster framing to a gargantuan print that was definitely outside the realm of ordinary framing gigs. They were game, though, and worked with us to figure out what we needed. The finished product — made and assembled by the same folks we met and talked with — is beautiful. We could not be happier.

Great experience getting 2 concert posters framed. They were different sizes, both had writing on the back I wanted to see, and both had very little border. They worked with me to pick out a frame and matting that would work with both prints to make them look like they belonged together. So thrilled with the results. I will be back with the rest of my Pearl Jam posters.

Needed two small prints framed, owner was friendly, good eye for frame color and size. Overall I would highly recommend.

These guys did a great job framing a poster for us. When we had some scheduling craziness picking up the piece while we were out of town they worked with us to sort everything out.

I brought 2 batiks I bought in Africa to the shop on Ravenswood and worked with the staff to figure out how best to display and frame them. The process took a little longer than I expected because we started out ‘pie in the sky’ as I apparently picked out the most expensive frame material they had in stock. Then we backtracked from there once I got an idea of the price tag! The owner and salesperson worked with me to find a more affordable option including the idea to use some frame pieces they had on hand rather than ordering new stuff. I also opted to frame the 2 batiks in one frame to get the cost down to a reasonable level.
When I picked up the piece — in the promised number of days — I noticed the matte was the wrong color. Luckily, I had taken a picture of the matte/​frame combo when I placed the order so I went back and showed them it was the wrong color (way too dark). They write down on the order a NUMBER for the matte, not the COLOR name. They redid the frame with the correct matte at no cost so that worked out. But even with the deal I used, it was more expensive than I anticipated (maybe material costs have gone up a lot since I last had something framed?). I suggest having a price you’re willing to pay in mind when you get there to save time — and take a photo & notes about what you selected to make sure you get what you want out of the final product.

I loved their work on my framing project for a rare album flat. I didn’t know much about custom framing but they guided me through all the decisions I needed to make for the piece. The finished work is beautiful and has a 3 dimensional quality, so the album flat just pops out at the viewer. I chose more expensive framing options so the Unilocal deal really kept the project at a reasonable price. I will recommend this gallery to my friends and colleagues.

This was my first experience having anything professionally framed. As an amateur, I went to Michael’s first, seduced by their «sales». So glad I ultimately decided on Blackbird. I went in and was helped by Michael who was so knowledgeable and gave me a lot of different choices at different price points. We settled on a simple black frame and double matting and art glass instead of the standard glass (such a big difference!). The final product, while not cheap, would have bought me no matting and a crappy frame at Michael’s. I have already recommended Blackbird to friends and I will definitely be back the next time I need anything professionally framed. Extra points for Michael immediately knowing the obscure artist’s print.

I’ve had several pieces framed at Blackbird and am extremely happy with the quality of the workmanship and materials I’ve gotten. And the prices have been better than anywhere I’ve gone before, including overpriced retailers like Michael’s that do such sloppy work. Fernando and Doug were very helpful in frame and mat selection and everything I’ve gotten looks great. I’ve never felt like I was being oversold there, and they showed me options at several price points. Fernando actually met me at the store after it closed to deliver a large piece I ordered. I’m from out of town and couldn’t get there before closing. Thanks so much for everything guys!

Came in with the Unilocal deal. The employee was very helpful and willing to work with any color suggestion, but didnt mention until after paying 150+ that using in stock materials would have saved money.
Perhaps my inexperience in how to get trapped by framers but I felt way overcharged for a simple job. I think he felt bad actually for how gullible I was so he threw in another frame for ¹⁄₃^rd the price of the first once I had closed the deal. Honestly I felt like a total fool upon leaving. The end work was solid and definately should be for the price– a 1×2 piece for $ 150 and a .5×2 for $ 50.
Maybe I dont get it but I’ll buy premade frames in the future.
Come on in if you have cash to burn and are looking for all the trimmins.

Brought two pieces in to be framed. Fernando took the time to work with me and arrive at the best solution taking in mind my desire to keep costs down. The pieces were completed on time And professionally. We are very happy with the results.

Amazing. If you need something framed. Cone here. Fernando and the guys are super friendly and equally helpful. I have had 6 pieces framed here and do not plan on stopping any time soon. My wife first walked in the shop needing to frame a piece we bought on our honeymoon and was so satisfied with the quality of the work and the service she brought back a larger work to be framed as a gift. We recent moved within walking distance to the store and have brought all of our art here. Every time we come in we are greeted like friends and they always ask how the previous pieces have worked out, to make sure we are happy with everything.
The experience is so easy and painless, even if you know nothing about art or framing, Blackbird is able to help select an option that works best with your artwork. There are hundreds of styles to choose from and the crew has a great eye of what will look best, if you are in need of a suggestion.
I would highly recommend Blackbird to anyone looking for quality, not to mention affordable framing or artwork. They are one of the reasons why Ravenswood is so great!

This morning, I took my 7^th piece in four years to Fernando. As always, he worked with me to try out different combinations, explore different options, & ultimately helped to create the best framing concept for my print.
I spent my teens and early twenties working in frame shops, so I have high standards for framing. Fernando is the only framer I’ve found who always lives up to them. He is the best!

The funny thing is I went to frame a piece of MY artwork (people think it’s so cool I frame my kid’s work– except I DON“T HAVE KIDS) and my boyfriend walked out with something. That something is a gorgeous (but very large) podium, vase stand whatever for only fifty bucks. The owner said he bought it and never had the right spot to put it so he gave it to us for hat he paid.
It was sitting in front of a GORGEOUS expensively framed mirror that they somehow did for someone or he did for himself, but WOW. If we had any empty walls, I’m sure that would have walked out with us. Great price according to my boyfriend and he’s bought much more custom frames than I in the past years.
They are so helpful in picking out just the right custom frame for my marker drawing (no, I don’t fingerpaint) and I must say they were very friendly when I handed them the Unilocal*coupon. With some places, the attitude comes out when they see the coupon, but they were very cool and I ended up paying under ten bucks to complete the deal.
The picture came out beautifully– no smears and the frame was pristine. I was very happy! My boyfriend found an old painting his Aunt gave him 20 years ago and he can’t wait to go in to have it framed. I can wait because it’s butt ugly. But maybe the right frame will change my mind.
