Dan’s Tackle is a fully outfitted shop with Rods, Line, Flies, Feathers, Fur, Waders, Line Winding, Hooks, Books & Blanks.

Dan’s is located in the residential neighborhood of Bucktown. There is no official «Dan’s Tackle» sign out front… its and «underground» retail shop if you will. Do not pass it up though, there is an old pine tree out front… Walk right in and head upstairs. You will not be disappointed!

Dan Pieczonka opened Dan’s Tackle in 1981. Dan is a lifelong fisherman who has fished all over the World. He specializes in making custom rods at very affordable prices as well as providing a wealth of fishing knowledge to anyone that has a question. He truly is a gem for the fishing community. Stop in and pick his brain about his history… he’d love to share… he’s an interesting guy with a big heart for fishing.

This is the best fishing spot you will find in Chicago. Hands down.
I stopped by for the first time tonight, and Dan hooked me up.
Not only does Dan know his merchandise (and a ton about fishing), but his prices are great too.
Its a house, and you walk upstairs and there is a fishing store. Its small and packed with fishing gear, but he has everything you need.
I walked out with a entirely new setup for under a $ 100. More importantly, he filled me in on a few great spots to go fishing with my son. I am from Indiana, so I thought I would have to travel outside of the city, but, according to Dan, I was wrong.
You will have to go to the store to learn his secrets thought, I won’t tell them here.
Really great store. You won’t be sorry. If you spend your money at Target or Walmart or whatever, instead of here, you should be ashamed!!!

I am not a fisherman, but needed a lure and some line as a prop for a photograph I needed to take. I was confused when I walked up, because it looks like someone’s house. I knocked and was greeted by a very nice gentlemen who owns the store upstairs. It looked like he had a real nice selection and he had exactly what i needed. It’s a great place to have in the neighborhood and I’m glad I stumbled upon it.

Dan is so nice and knowledgable, and his inventory is great and reasonably priced. He has great stories and provided me with top notch customer service! I highly recommend going here if you have any interest (or much interest) in fishing!

Whoa, what? A freaking fishing store in Bucktown? Am I high on bath salts? Again? Naw… this is real g. You walk up and it looks like someone’s house, and it is. And I just walked upstairs and Dan came in, very knowledge able. I got a sweet starter set up for like $ 100. Felt way better than if I bought the $ 24 thing at Target. Good times.
Dude showed me how to cast out in the playground across from his house /​shop. I wish my dad showed me how to do that, My dad showed me how to get my arm in a cast, how to sink to a lower caste and how to get drunk at a cast party. Never showed me about casting a fishing pole. Alas, now I cast. Ironically, my father’s name is Dan.
This is a real unique operation, Dan has seemed to cram every single piece of fishing gear into a small space and still has room for an 80s sunglasses display rack. He boasted that he makes custom fishing poles for rich people that run up to $ 1000. Then he mean mugged me for 15 minutes until I stepped up my rod n reel game. Kidding, no tough sell.
I suggested he change the name to «Rad n Realness» or «Dan’s Upstairs Fishing Hootenanny». He threw a huge net over me and shoved leeches down my pants. Kidding, no rough stuff.
Check this guy out to really break the mold of fun things to do in Chicago. He has every little fishing nook dialed and can tell you the kinds of fish you will catch in the little pools all across the Chicago Parks. You get a new perspective on the great city we all fish and breathe in.

Want to get some fishing gear in the city, and not sure where to get it?
You won’t find any at Sport’s Authority, and you may have to drive out towards the edge of town to the next nearest place.
Thankfully, Dan is located here right in the middle of Bucktown for all your fishing tackle needs.
Finding this place is awesome. I would have had no idea that this place which looks like any other 2 flat apartment, actually houses a fully stocked fishing supply shop.
My son and I walked out with 2 new, basic rod and reels and some other essentials for $ 70.
Just what we needed to go fishing later that day at Humboldt Park.
If you have an itch to go fishing this summer, and dont have any gear, definitely check this place out. Just make sure you call ahead to make sure Dan’s there and open for business.

Don’t let the exterior fool you, there is a full supply shop for what I imagine are all things related to fishing. Dan was both extremely helpful and generous to me and my friend when we came into the store. He had no issues with all of our questions and was great to talk to about fishing around Chicago. The rods he hooked us up with seem great (just haven’t tested them yet) and I was very happy with the prices Dan offered. A great place to go if you want to purchase anything related to fishing.

Awesome… up an old staircase on a now yuppie-​fied residential street in Bucktown and you’ll find fishing heaven. Dan is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things aquatic. I got a starter pole for about $ 30, although they have more advanced/​specialized ones that run up to $ 100. I also got a fish stringer for a buck and a nice lure for $ 4.
Dan showed me a map of Lake Michigan right around Chicago and the depths of water; this helped immensely in understanding where the best fishing is in the city to be had. Plenty of literature, fishing accessories, and Dan is willing and able to answer any and all fish-​related questions.
If you’re in the mood for a new summer hobby or you’re an experienced fisherman, this shop is awesome. Conveniently located, good street parking, and a knowlegable and attentive small business owner. What more could you ask for? Skip Cabella’s.

Dan’s is cool. The dude runs a fishing/​tackle store on the second floor of his 2 flat– right in Bucktown! You’ll enter through the front door, and be guided upstairs. He’ll probably have heard you enter, and will come up right behind you. Upstairs is all kinds of fishing stuff– and Dan know’s a lot too. He’s got a good amount of fly fishing stuff, so I recommend you check it out. But word to the wise, something in the place had a pretty good funk going on last time I was there, so avoid if you’ve got a sensitive nose.
