Midas

Came in yesterday 6÷13÷16 for an oil change, as soon as I turned on my car something sounded off. I drove back to Midas to have them listen and check it out. The technician reassured me that everything was okay. I left again driving around for a day and a half knowing that somethings didn’t sound and feel right. I noticed a distinct odor of something burning, I lifted my hood to find oil all over my engine, and hood. They had never replaced the cap after the oil change. When I returned for the second time they fix the problem by power washing my engine and placing a new cap, giving me some free oil changes for the inconvenience. On a customer service end that seems great but I will never be returning to Midas again. It’s not worth the risk of what could have potentially happened had I not checked under the hood.

Where do I begin?
I’ve always trusted Midas in other states and had great service on my previous 2 vehicles, they’ve always been fast, friendly, do high quality work, and stand by it (they have a 60 or 90 day warranty on repairs). So I expected to get the same sort of experience out of this Midas.
Unfortunately the decision to come here in November 2015 would start off a 5 month nightmare of issues.
My car had been losing oil and power slowly over the course of several months, not being mechanically inclined, I still went online and after extensively searching my model/​the symptoms I was about 80% confident it was my turbocharger. My vehicle had 85k on it and that was about the mileage where the turbo consistently failed on other people’s vehicles. So I brought it into this Midas and told them exactly what had been happening. They assured me they would fix it for me, so I left it with them for the day.
The next morning I returned to Midas and they told me it was my valve gasket cover that was leaking all over and that they would have to replace it for me for around $ 600. Admittedly I was confused but not really knowing any better I said ‘okay fine’. Later that day I picked up my car after paying for the service and immediately noticed a ‘sucking’ sound coming from my engine after letting off the gas pedal. Concerned, I brought it back to Midas and told them what was happening and that it had never happened before, and they took it for a drive around the block.
Now I had owned this car for 2 years at this point, and that day was the first EVER I had heard that sounds, so I was a bit annoyed when they came back to me after driving it and assured me that ‘this sound was there when you brought it in and it will go away after a few weeks’. So what else was I to do? I left, and the sound stayed.
About 1 week later I drove out to Michigan and on the way back, I had a feeling that I just wanted to check my oil.
EMPTY. I mean like NOTHING on the dipstick. Immediately I pull over at a gas station and fill up my oil, and call Midas, telling them that the problem hasn’t been fixed. The guy at the front desk (I forget his name) was friendly enough and told me to bring it in the next day.
Oh yeah and I almost forgot, when they ‘fixed’ my car they also left off some clips which resulted in my engine cover being very loose and bumping around; a problem they hurriedly fixed the day when they test drove it.
So I bring my car back the next day and they straight up tell me «OH WE GAVE YOU A CHEAP VALVE COVER GASKET SO WE’LL REPLACE IT WITH A NICE RUBBER ONE»
Facepalm.
Not only did they admit to using shitty materials but THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE! Not only that but in the weeks that followed all sorts of check engine lights came on and I was seriously contemplating selling my car.
SO. All stories must end well right?
Well, I ended up bringing my car to the dealership and LO AND BEHOLD THE TURBO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. Luckily for me I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty and the whole repair cost me $ 100.
Oh and that ‘sucking’ noise? Well the good people at Midas had forgotten to reconnect my vacuum hose and despite me bringing it in 2 more times failed to recognize their mistake OR correct it.
I actually for the first time in my life called Midas’s customer complaint hotline and left a DETAILED message explaining how disappointed I was. THE ONLY POSITIVE I can say is Rick (the manager) immediately emailed me personally and said he would investigate and reprimand those responsible, as well as sent me a check for TIRE BALANCING THAT THEY CHARGED ME FOR BUT NEVER COMPLETED.
Lol. I don’t even want to get into that story.
ANYWAYS, as my longest ever (hopefully) Unilocal review, I would give them ZERO stars if it was possible. The consistent lying, cover-​ups, false reassurances, and straight up shitty work makes this THE WORST AUTO SHOP I’VE EVER BEEN TO.

I love there service every since my friend recommend me there I have not have no problem with my car they show me what’s wrong with my car before they started or they call me they treat me with respect made me feel comfortable thank you very much you guys are great :-) :-) :-)

I leave to marinate (and get my finances in order) on the decision of additional repairs (new rear brakes and rotors) after a first visit 3 months prior (for front brake pads/​rotors), and the whole thing isn’t sitting right. My brake wear light hasn’t come on, the screeching noises are coming from the new front brakes-​so I take my car in to a different mechanic on the way home and ask him to check my brakes; he tells me the rear brakes are totally fine. Great. So I head back to Midas and explain the dilemma: I have two very different opinions coming from two different mechanics. He refused to hear that the rear brakes were deemed fine by another mechanic.
I tend to trust those who could potentially take advantage of me and my money, but choose not to.

I got an oil change here a while back. I requested full synthetic. When I got an oil change today at the place I usually go to, they informed me I had oil sludge and showed it to me. Looks like Midas put the wrong oil in my car. Considering they could have ruined my car, I can’t recommend this place.

This is the second time I have taken my car to Midas, and have not had any issues. They were able to diagnose the ‘check engine’ light, called me promptly for what the issue was and total cost, and the car was ready on time. Thank you very much.

The manager, Pat, was very honest and helpful. I came here in a pinch with my brakes almost completely failing, and I left 90 minutes later in good shape. The price was competitive with another Midas and better than the car dealership, but Pat was the standout.

It really saddens me to share this experience given that some of the guys working here are great and generally their customer service was superb.
I scheduled an appointment on a Friday for an oil change for that following Saturday morning at 7:30am. The gentleman on the phone informed me that I was the first appointment and ensured that I would be out in time to make it to work at 9am. I promptly arrived at the shop to find an employee in the office who claimed that they were not actually open until 8am, and that no one would be able to work on my car until after 8am (which would not allow me enough time to get to work obviously). He was utterly unapologetic and frankly rude in his demeanor. Needless to say, I left the shop without my oil change and did not return for one even though I had a voucher for the service.
Additionally, I found out that this location doesn’t do the proper inspection of your vehicle during routine oil changes. I would not recommend them to anyone :(

Great fast service (looking for a simple oil change) with an incredibly polite and outgoing rep. Failing to remember the name right now, and feeling incredibly guilty for doing so.
I’d happily bring my car back.

Mechanics are like anything else. There are good ones and bad ones. I came here to service my company vehicle and ended up bringing my personal vehicles as well. They did point out other issues and I allowed them to correct. That’s their job and they’re a business. I would expect them to. They provided me pick up and drop off service. Which is very convenient. I have no complaints about this place. I’ve been to many mechanics and can tell the difference between a good one and a bad one. These guys try hard to please you and they have an experienced crew. I think most people have the conception that they are going to get ripped off no matter what mechanic they go to. These guys are good!

I went here for a cracked radiator for my wife’s 2001 Rav4 and the up charge is ridiculous!!! After replacing the radiator, thermostat and hoses, they charged us $ 25 for a gallon of antifreeze. They also did not let us use a $ 15off coupon because they ‘technically’ did not flush the radiator, just filled it up.
We understand that the branded auto repair companies have an up charge but we draw the line at $ 25 for a gallon of antifreeze.
They lost our business forever and I cannot recommend Midas any longer.

I have been to this particular location twice; once in 2013 and this weekend I returned for brake repair on a lifetime warranty from my purchased at my last visit. On each experience I leave there with a bad feeling, a gotcha feeling – That buyers remorse feeling. My fiancé calls it the bait in switch. In 2013 I needed brake work on my car. With me living up the street from the location I thought this location would be ideal for me to receive that service. I dropped my car off with them for the work and was quoted a price. When it came time for me to pick the car up they had all this extra work they stated I needed to get done to the car. This work conveniently costed three times the original quote. When I told them no thanks the mechanic there attempted a scare tactic to get me to agree to the pricing. To make a long story short I denied the service and later went to my dealership where I purchased my car and they said nothing was wrong with it. Fast forward a year and 4 months later. My front brakes (which they fixed) were grinding. I took my car up there due to the life time warranty to get them fixed again (had doubts). Turn the car in no problem. Of course a couple hours later they attempted the bait and switch me again. A service that was supposed to be free became $ 495 worth of work «they say» I needed. I again I declined the service, but they still tried to slap on a labor fee of $ 150 for work they have to fix from a year ago. My suggestion to everyone out there is don’t mess with this place. I think one review called them crooks. Now to that statement I neither agree nor disagree… but you be the judge at your own risk. I would give them one star, but I reserve those for extreme bad experiences. I did have two bad experiences, but not at the extreme level to deserve a one.

These people are swindlers and liars. DO NOT GO TO THIS MIDAS. I had a Groupon for an oil change. After their inspection, they told me my water pump was «leaking a lot of fluid» and that I «was not going to get far» and said the repair would be about $ 330. I was suspicious and took it to my main and trusted mechanic (customer for over 6 years) and they said it wasn’t leaking at all. I then proceeded to drive the van for 4,000 miles over the next 2 weeks (cross country road trip) with NO issues.
I filed a complaint with corporate and they said they forwarded to the store manager. The manager just called me and tried to feed me a line of bullsh** how there «must have been a miscommunication» and that the tech only said that there was «some residue» and to «keep an eye on it.» He said if it truly was in dire need of replacing, he would have drawn up an official estimate and documented that the «customer refused» so that they wouldn’t be liable for a failure, which is obviously simply what they do to avoid being accountable for their fraudulent repairs, since no one makes an audio recording of their conversation with the technician. He refused to accept that his tech said what he did, and instead accused me of lying about what his tech said.
NEVER NEVER NEVER GO TO THIS MIDAS, they will try rip you off and even if you catch them, they are so good at their illegal activity that they know how to get away with it (unless you very sneakily make an audio recording of your interaction :)

I wrote a review before, but I don’t think it ever appeared, so I’ll make it short: never go here. Had such a bad experience I reported them to corporate. Once corporate got involved, nothing resolved, no refund or apology. My car has never ran right since. Had to do with water pump and air flow, but, They basically destroyed my car, charged me, and told me to stick it.
Separate incident, same visit, They also told my wife they replaced her brakes. They didn’t touch them, and charged her for new brakes. She knows because she took it to the dealer the next week after my incident and they told her that nothing had been done, the brakes were still worn and the rotors warped.

This place only wants your money. They will recommend replacing things instead of trying to repair. Had an exhaust problem. Their estimate $ 800.00 for a new catalytic converter. Went to Value plus on Western ave near Montrose. They found a couple of bolts caused the Cat to separate, $ 60 total to fix. Check Value plus rating on Unilocal.Every review is 5 stars. They are honest and reasonably priced.

Stopped in for an oil change and asked the shop to take a look at my brakes. Chris was extremely helpful and explained to me why my pads needed to be replaced by showing me the wear and how it looks when brand new. He quoted me a price and I left to shop around. His cost was right on so I took the car back for the work. Work was done in less than a day and the car drives great! I highly recommend this Midas.

Successfully changing my oil: 5 stars
Claiming my struts need to be replaced when a subsequent trip to my trusted mechanic tells me otherwise: — 4 stars
Hey thanks MIDAS for trying to sell me on the quoted ~$ 1,000 repair that was/​is completely unnecessary. How did you know I love wasting money? And thanks for the hissy fit when I refused your service. A sign of great customer service is when you leave feeling ignorant and irresponsible.

Don’t go here.
I had a coupon for a $ 20 oil change, so I went to this Midas blindly without reading the Unilocal reviews. After they finished, the tech tried to sell me a new air filter (which almost every shop tries to sell me regardless of the car, condition, etc.) and a power steering fluid flush. I was skeptical because I had just replaced the power steering pump in January at the Honda dealer, and I assumed that meant they changed the fluid. The tech assured me I needed a flush, and came back with a sample of my fluid compared to clean fluid. Mine was, of course, pitch black, compared to the clear, clean fluid. I declined the service, saying I’d go home to check my records to see if I’d had it done in January (one only needs a power steering fluid flush every 30−60k miles.)
Sure enough, my receipt from January showed a charge for power steering fluid. But being the diligent car owner that i am, I went to get a second opinion at Joe’s on Elston (highly recommended!) Within minutes Joe told me I didn’t need a flush. When I seemed hesitant, he came back with a sampling of my fluid — it was basically clear.
Looks like Midas was straight up lying!
Once again, don’t go here.

I came with a friend (GROUPON GIFT that I gave).
It’s the most disappointing experience ever. I just had the expectation of getting wiper blades changed. That didn’t happen. The deal was suppose to include the following: oil change package, including tire rotation, wiper blade change, and 45-​point safety inspection.
Of course, the safety inspection told us about a lot of errors that got my eyes jumping out of my sockets! We thought about the cost to get all those errors fixed and the price ended up to be $ 1,354 (tax not included?). When we decided to get a second opinion the guy (Josh?) gave a huge sigh as if we made the worst decision in our life.
On top of getting pressure from hearing the errors that the car has and the sigh, it’s really not negotiable. They definitely did try to get our business and asked why we refused to proceed with the suggested fixes. The first topic they asked was if it’s the price. Yes, it is the price! On top of that, I tried not to be biased with the reviews, but it really made me raise my eyebrows on the suggested changes.
If you bought a groupon, you might as well tell them to skip the inspection and wiper blade change.
This place was a disappointment on various levels since it was a gift, we traveled far to get the service, and we had to wait an hour for just an oil change.
Our regular service elsewhere included similar things and will honor a complimentary vacuuming with no fuss. Steer clear, my Unilocaler friends.

I purchased a Groupon for this Midas a month or so back, it was for an oil change, tire rotation, new windshield wipers, and a 40 point inspection. Once I was finally able to make an appointment (they only took weekday appointments and required an appointment to use the groupon) they went ahead and changed my oil etc.
The problem I have with this company is that they then proceeded to give me a list of items that were wrong with my car that they discovered as part of the inspection. That in itself is obviously not a problem, but I had a hard time believing everything they told me. I was informed that my breaks were worn down to the point that I would need to replace them and sand the rotors down as well. I was also told that there was a problem with my axle and it could break at any minute and needed replaced immediately. They offered me a great deal to fix these problems of course.
I just went to get a second opinion and was informed that my breaks still had 25% life left in them (over 10,000 miles worth of driving). They also let me know that I did have a problem with my axle but that I would be fine to wait to fix it.
The moral of this story is that you cannot trust what anyone at this Midas tells you about your car. They are obviously willing to lie if they think you will not know any better than to trust them. I certainly won’t be coming back here.
