Although I love having long hair, it was time for a change. My ends were visibly split and my ombré had dried out a good chunk of hair. I went in bright and early on a Saturday for an appointment with Tim, and before the cut even started he was great. Super friendly and funny — I’ve never talked the entire way through a haircut until this one. He understood exactly what I was looking for (to cut as little off as possible in order to make it look healthy again) and went to town. I think I ended up taking 4 – 5 inches off, and normally I would think my hair falling right below my shoulders to be too short but the way he did it I think it looks great. I left happy and have plans to go back in the summer to get my ombré redone once my hair grows out a bit.

I will definitely come back!!! Ella is very nice! She is really professional!!! Its very nice place, I feel very comfortable there!

I’ve been seeing Ella for couple of years now, she’s amazing. I went from black hair to blonde and than to other experiments, she was always careful about not to damage my hair. After her my hair is growing faster and healthier, also I always try to follow her instructions. Plus she’s always willing to teach me how to manage better my hair and how to make it look good at home :)))) I love that about her. I’m a very picky person, but w her my life is easier, she always explains why and how and for what purpose we should or shouldn’t do certain things to my hair :)))))) I try to listen ;) My last visit I did keratin and balayage, I’m very satisfied w the results !!! Ella is very friendly and amazing hair stylist, actually the best hair stylist I’ve seen so far !!!

Strands & Trends was great. I called to see if they could book me an appointment last minute, not really expecting much, but they did, I was so grateful.
I had never been to Strands & Trends so of course I was a little wary, but my stylist, Yesenia was great. She listened to exactly what I wanted and did a great job. I just wanted a trim and she cut off minimal length — exactly what I wanted. I have short hair, and a lot of time the stylists take liberty with the word «trim» and cut it right back into a pixie after I have said multiple times I’m trying to grow it out.
The only reason Strands & Trends doesn’t get 5 stars is because it’s a tad pricey. My cut would’ve been 40 $ but with my first time customer discount it was about 35 $ maybe?
Overall the staff is friendly, the environment is nice, and most importantly the stylists know what they’re doing and they listen to their customers’ wants. Thanks Strands & Trends!

4 stars just for now because I’ve only been once but had a great experience and wanted to share! I was looking for a new hairdresser after moving to Chicago, but also wanted a reasonable price. I found Strands & Trends on Unilocal and it did not disappoint. I set up an appointment online with Yesenia. I arrived and was greeted warmly and offered something to drink. Yesenia did a great job not only listening to what I was looking for in the cut, but also looking at my hair and what would look best. She did a great job and I’ll be back! Also, got 20% off my first cut as a new client… thumbs up.

The people who run this shop are very courteous and efficient. I like that you can book an appointment online and have it confirmed via text message. Ella is very skilled at cutting and styling hair. But I have a couple of complaints:
I came to get a trim recently and I was well aware that my hair was dried out, that the color needed a touch up, etc. I’ve been working 60+ hours a week and I barely have time for anything in my life at all. But I just wanted a trim and not a lecture. Right after I sat down, Ella was making comments about how bad my roots looked and that I needed a toner ASAP. I politely thanked her and said I didn’t have time for toner and I was there for a hair cut. Then she later told me how flat my hair looked when I walked in. She also seemed to be scolding me that I went to another hair place in between appointments.
After working a 10 hour day and not even going home for dinner, I just wanted a quick and efficient hair cut and I didn’t need to be insulted about how bad I looked when I sat down. Customers do not want to be insulted about their appearance or lectured about what they must do. Period.

I. Love. Ella. Enough said. But in all seriousness, I was looking for a salon that was open late one October day so I could get a training run in before a desperately needed, kinda last minute haircut. Almost two years later, and I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere else — my fiancé also sees her now too for his haircuts.
I waltzed in after years and years of cheap haircuts and within the first five minutes of sitting in her chair, Ella identified my one pain point with all of my haircuts — the way my layers fell. I walked out that day with the best haircut I’ve ever had, and I get to repeat that feeling every time I see Ella. She’s a wizard with her shears and a true artist. I’ve since started putting a bit of color in my hair, and since I was nervous about the idea of bleaching my hair, Ella was able to lighten my hair without — and recommended a toner that pushed me outside of my comfort zone that looked absolutely AMAZING. Since then, she has redone my color with bleaching my hair, and it still looks awesome.
If you’re looking for a hair stylist that will talk you out of bad ideas and collaborate with you for a look you’ll love, Ella and the rest of the stylists at Strands and Trends is the way to go.

I did Keratin treatment with ELLA two days ago and she was fabulous, she is a professional hair dresser that truly cares for her customers’ hair and satisfaction. I have big frizzy hair which took 4 hours of her time but she did it with pleasure and was dedicated to give me the perfect result. I am totally satisfied with the result of the treatment and will definitely go back again soon.
Another nice thing i noticed is the friendly relationship between staff which made the 4 hours not seem too long.
If you haven’t tried this salon yet i recommend you to make an appointment with Ella as soon as possible.

I adore this salon! Ella always does a wonderful job with my hair and I trust her completely. I have a ton of straight, fine hair, and she never rushes the process. I have never walked out less than 100% satisfied! Ella is also great at coming up with new solutions for any issues or changes I want to make with my style– I would never go to another salon, and I recommend this one to everyone!

A little over a month ago, I was looking for a new stylist and went to a one that was recommended by someone. I needed to get my hair trimmed and wanted more highlights for the summer. Well it turned out to be a horrible experience. She cut my hair fine but the highlights looked terrible. I have dark hair and the highlights she did came out so light that they looked white and where uneven. I called in sick from work the next day (my hair was sick, lol). I could not go in looking the way I did. I was searching on Unilocal and saw that Strands & Trends got great reviews and called them so they could fix my hair. Tim saved the day and fixed my horrible highlights. The staff was also very nice and I like the way the work together as team. I also like how they have new equipment and are up with the technology. I have gone since then to see Tim again to get my hair styled and will soon return again in a couple of weeks get the highlights I wanted. I am confident Tim will do an excellent job

All I can say is that Tim now has full ownership of my strands. I cannot even begin to describe how amazing he is as well as the rest of the staff at Strands and Trends. I took my one day off this week (a Friday) and decided to take some me time and get my hair done. I went for the balayage highlight look (at another salon that was not Strands and Trends) and I came out feeling like my hair was dipped in yellow paint! I was so upset considering it was my only day off of work, so when was I supposed to get this fixed, and I also have a photo shoot for work coming up in a few days! I was in such a panic to get my hair fixed and that’s when I decided to call strands and Trends based on their reviews, but more importantly them being opened after 8PM on Friday night! I called to see if they had anything available and they told me they could get me in first thing in the morning… I had just a few hours to spare. They then had me come in Friday night to look at my hair and when I went in, they all put me at such ease. Telling me it could be fixed and that Tim is a genius etc. They were so right! He was able to blend my hair color from root to tip and take out all of the yellow I had been staring at for the past 24 hours. The relief I had leaving the salon heading straight to work is indescribable. I’m so happy to have found them and even though I am moving out of the neighborhood, I won’t be going anywhere else to get my hair done from now on!

I’ve been going here since I moved to Chicago almost 4 years ago and I’ve never had a bad cut. I used to see Shay (who recently left), but Tim took over and he did an excellent job. Everyone here is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable too.

If you are looking for a new place to get your haircut, come here. I was nervous when I moved here that I wouldn’t find an affordable salon that did a great job, but I’ve found that with strands & trends. The staff is very friendly and the stylists know what they are doing. I would recommend Yesenia especially, because she listens to what you want and makes your hair look amazing. Got my hair cut by Ella about a month ago. I’m so happy with it! She was so helpful in teaching me how to style it and how to use my hair products correctly! She helped guide me toward picking a haircut style that both matched my face shape and aligned with current trends. Because of her advice, my hair looks better than ever. She wanted me to buy some professional products but didn’t get pushy when I said I’d have to think about it. First time clients get a discount. I’ll be back!

I’ve received three haircuts now from Ella at Strands and Trends and I know that I’m now a lifer. I can only speak to my experiences with her, but aside from being a great stylist, she’s always incredibly polite, attentive, and have a great charm to her. It always makes for a more pleasant haircut when you can sit back and enjoy a few laughs throughout the appointment.
As for the appointments, she’s incredibly easy to work with and the professional-​grade haircut (I’m a guy) with a shampoo and style cannot be beat — it’s only $ 25. You can tell that her entire staff is knowledgeable and gives great care to their clientele because there are always customers coming in and it’s rarely slow.
My suggestion: make an appointment with Ella or Shea (spelling?) as they are the only two I’ve met and they are both great at what they do.

Excellent service! I was more than satisfied with the result! I showed a picture, as a guide, and I ended up having the same exact haircut! The prices are also great! If this is your first time there, you will get a 20% discount plus you can buy the products they used on your hair! RECOMMEND it to everybody, who wants to have a great haircut experience! :)

Sorry to say things went downhill on my next couple of visits. Ella was not, in fact, able to cut my bangs without making them flat against my forehead (a look I decidedly do not care for).
And on my last haircut, I was left with a big unruly chunk of hair sticking out when I clipped my hair up (the way I habitually wear it). When I called for a re-​cut I was told by the woman on the phone, oh, yes, we guarantee our haircuts. But when I arrived for the re-​cut, I was met with a surly attitude — a belligerent denial there was anything wrong and a demand that I should tell her how to fix it. I remarked that I couldn’t possibly tell her that since I’m not a professional hairstylist.
I’ll leave out the rest of the sordid details of the «re-​cut» experience. Suffice it to say, it was more than unpleasant.
When I returned to my long-​time previous hair stylist in another city a couple of months later, she said, «Gee, look at this. The whole left side of your hair is at least a half-​inch longer than the right side.»
Aha. At last I understand where the big unruly chunk was coming from.
As for the rest of the shop, it’s a very nice place. I’m really sorry this wasn’t handled more gracefully. I would have liked to keep coming here.
