Half Price Books

Great welcoming store, reminds me of Tower on Watt Ave. years ago. Doesn’t make you feel like you have to have a Starbucks cup in your hand like umm that other bookstore ha. Nice selection of books to records.
Not sure why people complain about the buying rate. I buy plenty of books from $ 1 – 3, paying more than a few quarters (for most), wouldn’t make sense. Name a company that gives you a great return rate and you’ll see CLOSED on Unilocal in no time. Plus you have everything from eBay to OfferUp, oh that’s right, work is involved, that stores have to pay someone to do. GG.

I love some used books and this place is massive! I was shocked how much selection they have of everything. Also not just books but records, CDs, DVDs, blurays, board games, toys, and magazines.
I was able to get a bluray and an old vinyl soundtrack for Close encounters of the third kind all for around $ 20. I will for sure be coming back frequently to check what new stuff they have. I didn’t sell anything to them but it was cool they buy everything from you and it was nice to see them have 3 – 4 people working on a Monday afternoon, unlike say Barnes and noble who tend to have 2 people working at a time. I will be back.

They used to be good, but I’m not happy lately with the fact they are giving only 5% of retail value on books and won’t ever take any romance books. I brought in a $ 10 manga and got 50 cents. That’s not even 10% of what they advertise they give for books.

Great store for anything you need, but when selling books they definitely take advantage of it!

I love this store! Great prices and decent selection of books, games (board and video), magazines, CDs, and vinyl. The store was bright and clean and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back!

I love this place very much. They have great deals on DVDs and books and CDs. Most of the people who work there are amazing. The only bad experience I had was when I asked for my hold items from a gentleman with short blonde hair who works there he gave me attitude over how much I had on hold and I heard him complaining to another associate there about it. Even though when I put them on hold days before know one told me there was a limit. If it wasn’t for the other associate who was a kind lady I would not shop there anymore but with her smile and they kindness she treated me with I will shop here again.

Such a fun place to get not only reasonably priced books, but music, movies and computer software as well as miscellaneous other items. They don’t have the very latest titles (hence the subtraction of one star), but the selection is still quite amazing and the staff more friendly than at many larger bookstores. Will be back!

What can I say? This national used book store delivers it all! Half Price Books (established since 1972) brings the consumers to buy or sell used books, musics, movies, video games, magazines, and many more all day, all night long! As I entered their doors, the atmosphere is quite refreshing and warming inside as I welcomed here. The concept is much mixed between industrial and small community feel library on it. Very contemporary made!
The employees are doing a great job for an amazing service! From asking questions to finding an item, I have no problems at all because they worked so hard to make the customers more approachable and supportive to them. A well, experience effort!
Every items from books to entertainment are totally organized; clean and tidy, so I can find one or more items on what I want to buy.
The selling process is totally top notch! I decided to come here on 1÷23÷2016 to sell my gently used books to know what’s my buyback value is, and I got the best results for me! The buyback process can be redeem in cash at the register after reevaluate it, so it’s a win-​win for the customers to get the best competitive value. Of course, you can actually sell your magazines too which it’s an amazing idea to sell your magazines if it’s vintage or few years old.
There’s plenty of parking available at this lot, so you can park anywhere you want near or far.
In the end, Half Price Books is the coolest national book store that I’ve ever visited for the very first time! A great addition to the city of Citrus Heights! A well, worthy visit! My rating: 5 solid stars.

Some books are new, some books have been gently read. There’s calendars, games, music (vinyl and CD), and movies — also some new and some used; except for the calendars. these are new. At the rear of the store, a place to sell your books and such.
I came without a specific purpose but meandered the shop for about an hour. Like a typical bookstore, books are arranged by category. Each has the price clearly marked. When browsing, you may find some hidden notes inside some of the previously read books.
Today, I picked up a book on keeping chickens (new) and a book on pairing beer with cheese (new). With a suggested retail of $ 36 for both books, I managed to squeeze through checkout spending only $ 16 (after tax and after an additional 20% off).
Half Price Books is not far from the other major bookseller in the immediate area. Definitely worth checking.

My 10 year old Grand Daughter has been asking to watch the Star Wars Movies. I found 2 episodes at the Half Price Book Store. I browsed for hours and found a few more treasures. I have a large stack of vintage sheet music I will take in to see if they are interested in them. They are in pristine condition.

Was excited to see this open however titles were hard to find even for the employee on the computer. The store was clean and the employee was friendly. They didn’t have the title we were looking for but maybe next time.

I came to Half Price Books one weekend afternoon because I was in the area and LOVE to read. I purchase most of my books on Amazon or used book sales, so I was happy to find another alternative.
Parking was easy because even though there was some people on the store, it wasn’t that busy for a weekend afternoon. Yay! They have cookbooks and other misc. books to the left, in the back there is the kids corner (where they also have story time) as well as a section to trade in your used books. In the middle there are fiction, romance and mystery books and on the right there are records, board games, other misc. books and a clearance section.
My favorite sections are the fiction and mystery books so I found a few books I had been looking for and that we’re on my Amazon wish list. Some were cheaper at Half Price Books and some were the same price. I would come to Half Price Books to purchase books instead of Amazon, but only if they are new books. I wouldn’t purchase a used book for half off especially since there are many thrift stores and used book sales in the area.
I would come back to Half Price Books again and I’m glad they are in the area. The store is a little on the smaller side, but they reminded me a lot of the now defunct Crown Books which I used to love. Definitely a neighborhood gem!

Pretty good prices, fun to browse. The staff sort of leave you to it, which I love, but they’re very willing to help if you ask. Books, comics, movies, music, board games; pretty much a great place to spend an hour or two just poking around.

BEST bookstore ANYWHERE. They have records!!! They have video games. They have LOTS of books!!! Oh, and they have antique books!!!
Today, we took in our previously-​enjoyed books (two boxes of them). After checking them over, and returning half of them to us, we got $ 50… FIFTY DOLLARS!!! We spent every dime + $ 0.38 because, well, you NEVER enter the sacred ground of a bookstore without walking out with books!

Books are a part of our every day here at home. We all love reading. My kids anxiously waited for their grand opening and they were not disappointed.
There is so much to choose from and their prices are good for gently used books. The store is very well organized and the employees are nice.
As far as selling our books to them… That didn’t go so well. My kids gathered like 40 books and without hardly looking at them, they were offered about a quarter for each book. Umm, No. Just no. There were books in there that still sell new for close to $ 20.00 and they wanted to give my kids a quarter per book only to turn around and sell them close to the original price because they were in mint condition… Not OK.
I will continue to take my kids to this book store because it’s a very nice store but we will take our used books to a different store where they give my kids a very fair store credit.

I love that we have a new used book store. I was pretty easy to find. (behind Wendy’s) next to the shoe store.
They have a good selection of books, books are in good shape. They even have a «sale» section in the back!
The people that work there are friendly but you have to ask for help.

It’s big and clean. I’ve been there twice and both times I sold some books (which is nice that you can do). I didn’t get as much as I excepted for my books which was a disappointment. I think I’m going to try E-​bay to sell and see if I do better.
Prices are «OK»… They are cheaper than buying a book at a Barnes and Noble but I found I could but it cheaper buying them online (if I was willing to wait).
But I did find books that I couldn’t find else where. They have a kids section, magazines, movies, records… lots to choose from.
No where to sit.
Last time I was there, they had an annoying noise throughout the store going off every few minutes.

I am so glad that this place opened up. I can go in there browse around and find pretty much anything that I need to get. Yes, they are used books, but they are in VERY good condition. They also have rare books that they sell. I take my daughter here to get all her animé books and I save a ton of money. I don’t think I will be going back to barns and noble any time soon.

My new favorite place! I really love the selection and the service. The lady by the name of Danielle helped me find the books I needed for class this fall. She was absolutely resourceful and just awesome. I can’t wait till I pick up the books I ordered that they didn’t have in house. The prices are way better here. This is definitely a gem.

Huge selection of just about any book you can think of. Plus a decent selection of records and video games. Their children’s book section is a lot of fun with books, stuffed animals and they even sell used board games!
I do agree with another poster that some items are a bit pricey, i.e. cookbooks or craft books, but the sheer selection makes it a must place to stop.
I also like the fact that they pay out cash for your things instead of store credit, even though I usually spend it right back, its nice to not feel ‘restricted’ to just there.
Staff is super friendly and helpful and have a great knowledge of the items they carry. This is great for when you go in for a certain book and forget the author/​title (which I did recently, I blame the heat outside for frying my brain!)
This store is a TERRIFIC addition to the area and I welcome it!

Great mixed selection of new and used. Good selection of random. For used books, it’s what I would justify paying on Amazon or less.
Lots of new stuff at 20% off or more. I picked up a few craft book titles in hardback, came out in the last few years, new condition, for 65% off cover price.
They have a surprisingly good selection of first edition, collectable, and vintage cover books in a separate section, making for easy browsing. I heart old cookbooks with tips like «how to entertain without a maid».
Didn’t have time to check out the magazines, but noticed vintage Life magazine titles. I’ll be back for you later.
Notes for kid stuff– store aisles are stroller friendly. Nice selection of kid books and a young reader section. Through the end of July they have a «feed your brain» summer reading program. One set of rules for 8^th grade and under to just listening readers. Another set for high school kids. They earn bookworm bucks to get books with. Pretty sweet that they thought to include the older kids too.
Also, their a/​c makes this an awesome place to browse on a hot day. :)
