Speed E Smog Check

I was looking around for a last minute smog check as my registration is due tomorrow, lol. Found Speed E on Unilocal and saw they had a Unilocal deal that was a pretty significant savings. To be honest, after reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant to go there. But hey, dmv is due…$ 38 dollar deal… I’m a big boy, how bad could it be. I purchased the deal and showed up with no appointment around 3:00pm Friday afternnon. There was one person ahead of me and the guy at the counter asked me to fill out some paperwork and said the job would be done around 4:00pm. The guy at the counter was very nice, spoke to me like I mattered and he was happy to have my business… that goes a long way with me.
I sat down fully expecting to be there longer than 45 minutes and really thought I’d have to pay a premium for bringing in a full-​size truck. At 4:00pm almost to the second, he told me my smog check was done. Wow, on time! Very surprised. He said it would be $ 8 and change for the certificate, which I already knew, and that was it. No truck premium, no blah, blah, blah, no trying to gouge me. Just great service that was on time and on budget. I will defiantly continue to bring my business here, and tell others to as well. I feel very happy I disregarded the bad press this place got in the past. Maybe it used to be that way, but it wasn’t my experiance. If you need you’re vehicle smogged, want it done on time, feel like your business is appreciated, and not pay more than you expect, this is the place to go. Thanks Speed E!

Super fast, super friendly! This was the most painless smog test ever. I was in and out in about 20 mins.

Great place, I came in and there was a guy ahead of me but they are very quick. I was in and out within 20 mins, couldn’t be happier. I will be doing my smog tests here from now on!

Came in to use the coupon off Unilocal and it was no problem. Hooked to the free wi fi to do sone xmas shopping and they were finished. Fast, great service!

Went here to get my smog done the man was very nice. I asked how much with the 20 $ off coupon from there site he told me it would be 58 $. I told him I only had 50 on me that was it. He did my smog for that much. They had my car in and out in 20 minutes.

I printed out a $ 20.00 coupon on their website to present to the desk clerk. Once I arrived, the guy stated that smog was $ 60.00 plus the certificate fee with coupon. I told him no that’s ok I’ll go somewhere else. He then proceeds to barter with me, stating he would do the smog for $ 50.00 plus the certificate fee. When I told him no again he stated he would do it for $ 36 plus certificate fee.
I was really irritated that I couldn’t get a standard price and ended up taking my business up the street. STAR Smog was approximately $ 27.00 plus $ 9.00 certificate fee.

These guys passed my Toyota truck with smog great! They matched the neighbor smog shop prices and had me in and out quick thanks to the technician Chris! All I needed was a new gas cap, yet he gave me advice on other maintenance I should do to keep my truck running strong. Thanks again!

The pricing of this place is way too high. I had a coupon for $ 20 off & they still wanted to charge me $ 89 for a simple smog check on a newer year car. That’s crazy! All of auburn blvd is full of places to get this done for about half the price. While they offered to discount it to $ 58, it was still a really ridiculous price. I drove down the street to Valero & got it done for $ 34 out the door including certificate!

Great fast and easy… got in and out right away. Used a coupon on Unilocal for an awesome price for a smog check. I would go here again.

Not too sure about the negative reviews on here. Today was my second time getting a smog check here for car registration purposes. I had purchased the groupon deal. I called ahead to check if I needed an appointment, the owner was pleasant, polite, and helpful on the phone. Upon arrival, he made it clear about the certificate fee even though I had purchased the groupon. I appreciated the clarification. He does seem a bit rushed with paperwork but with a name like Speed E Smog Check, I would expect that they are driven to get you in and out of there as quickly as possible. Smog check was completed quickly and paperwork and payment was handled in a friendly and pleasant manner. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a quick and reliable smog check.

Purchased a groupon.
Upon arrival I was told it would be 15 minutes. But that I would have to pay $ 20 extra because it’s an ’85 Toyota.
My 15 minutes turned into an hour and a half because «the other machine wasn’t turned on and has to warm up.» After all that, it was a few degrees off on timing, so it failed even though all the emissions came out passing with flying colors.
I was told I could retest for free. I went home and reset my timing, but went on vacation so I wasn’t able to get back in for 45 days. Upon my return he pointed out the fine print he hadn’t told me when I left last time. «Free retest within 30 days»
He wouldn’t make any exceptions and demanded I had to pay again.
Screw it. Went somewhere else.
Highly recommend AD Smog in midtown.
So much for customer service these days!

I found this place had a Groupon that I wanted to check out because I’m in the market to get my car smogged for the first time since I’ve had it.
I have an older car that I figured is going to cost some extra to smog so I wanted to get a quote to see how much I would be paying at this location.
I called just this morning and explained my car and how I found the Groupon for $ 38. I asked if there were any extra fees and the gentleman started telling me a bunch of numbers for the certificate and for evac and whatever else there were fees for. I asked what the total would be about (so I’m looking for tax and everything here) and he told me that I can «do the math.» And proceeded to break it down and add it out number by number for me like I were a child. «Okay so 20 plus 8 plus…»
I stopped listening and thanked him and hung up. How rude!
It’s a shame. This place looked really promising but I feel so insulted just from that phone call that I’m not even going to try it.

I decided to come here because they had a Unilocal deal. Pay $ 36 for $ 89 worth of work. So we drove my 94 Toyota Corolla here (long story short, I’m selling it.)
The first time we arrived, the older man behind the window came off rude right away asking where my smog papers were. I told him I don’t have any because I’m selling the car. I told him I wasn’t sure my battery would stay alive, he continued to over look the car and told me since it’s an older car, it was going to cost $ 89. That’s when I told him we came there because of the Unilocal deal.
He said «ok, but it doesn’t come with a certificate. That’s an extra $ 8.25.»
I said, «that’s fine.»
Then he says, «Or, you can just pay me $ 50 INSTEAD of buying online and that will include the certificate.»
Scamming around the Unilocal deal. Trying to be pushy and get us to just buy it his way.
… isn’t it still cheaper if I buy it online, then pay for the certificate? Yes, but I guess he was trying to make it convenient.
He came out to our car with some device and wanted us to plug it in under the dash to check if it it would be ready. His knees were bad so he asked my husband and I to do it. We didn’t mind, even after he was kind of rude and pushy.
Maybe he was having a rough day…
Never got it plugged in. The mechanic came out, was honest, and said if we haven’t driven it at least 30 – 50 miles recently, it’s not going to pass. We thanked the mechanic.
We told them we would be back and we drove quite a ways that day. Came back to the shop a few hours later (no, I wasn’t driving the whole time) and the older man put us back in line. He told us it was going to be 45 min to an hour. So we waited.
We watched him try to over charge 3 other people in there. 2 that called and he quoted $ 50. One he had quoted $ 50 he was trying to charge $ 79! She almost paid, too! Things started to feel shady.
Then, 2 people who had shown up earlier that day, when there was a 2 hour wait, and we’re bumped up to the front of the line ahead of the 2 people waiting over am hour already. They were pretty upset.
After our car didn’t pass smog because of the emissions test and timing, the man told us the total was $ 41.75 (he wasn’t charging for the certificate since it didn’t pass.) When I told him I bought the deal for $ 36, he blew up.
In front of 4 other people in that small sardine can of a waiting room, he started yelling that I had already agreed to pay him $ 50.
I never agreed.
He told me his idea to pay him instead of paying the Unilocal deal, but I never said yes to it.
He continued to yell me saying over and over that I had agreed to pay $ 50, and that I should’ve told him before I bought it, then I should’ve told him when I bought it. even after I was in there showing him the deal.
I asked him,
«What is the problem here?! Isn’t this your Unilocal deal on the Unilocal site?! I’ve paid for it already!»
He yelled back that «When you called earlier and I quoted you $ 50!»
Hmmm… we never called the shop.
After my husband told him that, all of a sudden… the older man behind the counter stopped yelling.
He said he needed my phone, not specifying that it was because he needed a code…
Worth his new found kindness, he said, «you don’t owe anything today because you paid for the deal. You do get a free retest, but come back within a month.
He handed us the keys and when we walked out, our car was still in his shop. After a few moments of talking, and deciding not to drive it out ourselves, I went back into the lions den and asked if we should move or car out. He said he’d be out in a few min. I told him it’s hot out here and we have to get going.
Who could blame me? I wanted to get the F outta there!

Speed E lives up to its name! Service was quick, even without an appointment! The owner and technician were both friendly and courteous. Be sure to look on line for the coupon, $ 20 off!

Well it was a great price for the smog. I got the $ 36 deal. But the guy at the front desk was really rude. I was filling out my paperwork and he snatched it from me and said forget it I’ll do it. And then when the smog was done he told me they tried multiple times to close the hood of my car and it wouldn’t secure. I lifted the hood, moved the bar that holds it up back into place and it closed. Like seriously? Good price but I wouldn’t go back.

Bought the groupon and saved a lot of money. The only down part is that they are in odd location.
The staff is quick and efficient. If you do not have an appointment go early to save your precious time.
Open 7 days a week; nice convenience.

I bought the Groupon for $ 38, and came in about an hour later. I didn’t call first or have an appointment (the Groupon said appointments were recommended), but they were able to take me right away. I think this was around 5pm on a Friday.
I walked out the door with my smog certificate (an additional $ 8.25 charge) less than fifteen minutes after I arrived. Service was super quick and I passed, so I’m happy.
The customer service was pretty gruff. The two men working didn’t say much or make much eye contact, and they left my seat all the way back. The shop was kind of dirty and could definitely use a little updating, but if you’re just looking for a fast good deal, this place will work.
Also, I noticed that there was a Unilocal check-​in offer for $ 39.50, almost as cheap as the Groupon.

Wow! This place lives up to it’s name!

The guy at the front counter attempted to imply that I was inconveniencing him for attempting to use the coupon offered here after a bit of confusion over my registration form.
His words were something very close to, (paraphrasing) ‘You don’t have what I ask for and you give me this? Give it to me…’ when I showed him the coupon.
I somewhat abruptly excused myself and let him know I’d take my business elsewhere. Honestly, I’d go back of I didn’t have to deal with this guy. The place is centrally located in Citrus Heights and seemed reasonably well put together aside from the odd smell in the front office but, what can you expect from a smog shop.
Focus on how to professionally and reasonably inform your customers of your concerns and I’ll be back very soon.
