Cafe Berlin

Very good for brunch. Plenty of healthy options but also plenty of non-​healthy comfort food. Everything served to us and neighboring tables looked really good. Great cocktail menu, offering different options for how hard you want to go, or what type of alcohol you prefer. Waiter was ok, I would call him a hipster. Didn’t seem to care too much, but still service was fine. Try the twist with ginger, it’s a non-​alcoholic drink, very good.

Great breakfast spot with a unique menu featuring lots of fresh veggies, many vegetarian options and plenty of healthy options. Cocktails, man-​mosas and craft beer selection was impressive but we settled for the Twist, a blend of fresh orange and grapefruit juice and lemonade. Super pulpy and thick and delicious!!! For breakfast she had a sausage and egg taco plate that’s was super tasty, full of veggies, and came with some great salsa. I had the veggie scramble with crispy potatoes. Lots of sautéed spinach, mush, onion, and peppers over scrambled eggs. Super fresh and nicely prepared. Flavors were pretty basic but it still very satisfying and enjoyable with a few dashes of hot sauce. Potatoes were nicely seasoned and crisped and featured a mix of sweet and russet potatoes.

Absolutely delicious. The wait was forever long, but definitely worth it. Very unique environment! I would highly recommend trying this place. I will definitely be coming back! Food was stellar

This was the perfect spot for my dog and I to grab a healthy breakfast during our 3 day road trip. Service was fast and friendly. If I lived here, I would be back every week.

I love this place. Hard to get into — usually a long waiting period but that’s a sign of a good restaurant. Some of the best Saturday breakfast choices with a unique twist. My favorite is the spicy sausage and hot cake (pancake) with apples. And they have fresh squeezed orange too! Yum. Really cool atmosphere and a stage for bands to play in the evenings.

This place is amazing. They use local produce and meats. The coffee comes from a local roaster. Service is excellent and you feel welcomed when you are here. Also they don’t have a deep fryer nor a microwave. If you are on Whole30 or Paleo then you need to come here.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. Don’t let anyone tell you different. I went to school in this town, and almost every weekend, Café Berlin was a place that not only offered great live music and drinks at night but also hangover (or just regular) brunches the next morning. And it offers so much more, from bazaars and other entertaining events. It’s family-​friendly, student-​friendly, friend-​friendly, cool people-​friendly.
There’s no brunch place like this. I live in New York now, where everyone thinks they’ve discovered the meaning of brunch. But I’ve yet to find a place as amazingly magical, comforting, unexpected, and straight-​up DELICIOUS as Café Berlin.

I’m not too sure how to recommend this restaurant. If you are looking for a hardy breakfast this is likely not the place for you. If you want to venture into the world of slightly bizarre food offerings then this might be right up your alley. It’s the place where hash browns loss out to sweet potato chunks…
The food is a bit over priced for the portions served. The place is very popular at the weekends, so come early to secure a spot.

1^st time at Café Berlin. SO good and worth the 45 minute wait. Weather was nice & free coffee so wait was no big deal. I had the Union, husband had the pancake burrito, daughter had one if the breakfast sandwiches. ALL delicious. Roasted potatoes THE best!

This is the kind of place that makes getting up for breakfast worth it. Eclectic, energetic, great food, and wonderful friendly staff. A lot of their options can also be made vegan. They use mostly local and in season ingredients which truly makes the cuisine great.

This is the BEST breakfast place in Columbia. The food is amazing and the people that work there are really friendly.

Best brunch place in town, in my opinion. They use lots of fresh produce, and have plenty of options for meat lovers and vegetarians alike.
Traditionally I was a fan of The Starving Artist. Last time, I brached out and tried the spicy apple and sausage pancake, which was reeeeeally good.

Very nice, low-​key «dive» atmosphere, but with very well-​crafted breakfast foods. Their omelets are awesome and they have some really interesting combinations that work really well together. I’m not a fan of the potatoes being mixed with sweet potatoes and no option to get only one or the other … otherwise, that 5^th star might be warranted.

Funky college town vibe. Emphasis on earthy, rustic, healthy fare. Servers with personality and a varying brunch menu. Fresh. Organic. And the best GF bread I’ve eaten. Large portions. And just 5 – 7 minutes S of I-​70 and totally worth it!

Awesome brunch. I’m about to move away from the area but will definitely be back when I visit. The tacos were glorious, and I tasted my mom’s Butch Jones which was super yummy too. Would definitely recommend. A little slow but great, attentive service, too.

One of my new favorite breakfast places in Columbia. This place is worth the wait! The Starving Artist was fantastic, and the grits we got for the table were delicious. Great menu selection with a little something for everyone.
We went on a Sunday morning around 10, and the place was pretty packed. The host said the wait would be about 30 minutes, but in reality it was only 15 minutes. There is a dedicated waiting area with seating and access to coffee, so the wait itself wasn’t bad.
Once we got a table, the service was prompt. The coffee was standard Lakota coffee, nothing to write home about. The menu ranged from basic breakfast options like french toast to more interesting options like pancake burritos or waffles with chipotle mayo. Being gravy fans, my family all ordered something that had gravy in it. The vegetarian gravy on the Starving Artist made the dish; it had a tiny kick to it and worked well with every other element on the plate. The serving sizes give you plenty of food for the cost without having a ton left over. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, and many of them are locally sourced.
Our server kept things moving along even with the crowd, and we never wanted for coffee or water. One quirky touch I enjoyed was that the bill came in an actual book instead of a typical receipt holder. The décor is funky, as is the overall vibe of the place.
(One tip, they do not have a speaker system to call names on the wait list so be listening carefully. Someone missed their table while we were waiting because they didn’t hear their name.)

This place was packed for a reason. The food was amazing. I got the Butch Jones and once I put it in my mouth, so many flavors were happening! It was soooo delicious! I loved the pancake wrapped in bacon, apples, sausage, & onion. The service was awesome. I sat at the bar to avoid the wait. Well done, Café Berlin! I must come again!

Food and drink are excellent. Wait staff are in very short supply and in slow motion. You can stand at the «Wait to be seated» sign for 10 minutes, nobody ahead of you, empty tables all around and not be able to make eye contact with any employe even as they walk by you within mere inches. Finally getting seated, begins the second wait in no-​mans land for someone to bring you a menu. The third and forth wait are to order and finally get something to eat.
However, the food is good enough to cause me to return inspite of it all.

I got the pancake burrito and a side of roasted potatoes. The roasted potatoes had the perfect amount of spice and were just slightly crispy. Awesome. The pancake burrito was impressive when I first saw it (a gigantic pancake with bacon and eggs inside, what’s not to like??). No matter how impressive it appeared, it was actually rather bland. The eggs weren’t seasoned and the bacon wasn’t all that impressive. The pancakes could have used more vanilla in the batter; they were again, bland.
Overall, my experience was pretty good. The food was given in large portions, and the wait staff was polite. The wait was ridiculous, but we did come during peak hours. I would definitely go again, but I’d get the pancake burrito with sausage instead.

I love this place! While visiting Columbia with our son we’ve had brunch here three times. It’s now my favorite place in Columbia. Elaina has been our server each time and is the happiest sweetest young lady. The other staff is also very nice and upbeat. Dancing to the music as they deliver the most delicious breakfasts and lunches. The poached eggs florentine are my favorite. The quesadilla are great too. Love their lattes. The décor is cool and fun. I would be here at least 3 times a week if I lived here. ;))

Came here for brunch on a Sunday and had a bit of a wait for our party of 6. Most people ordered a bloody mary which they claimed was standard but nothing to write home about. However, the food more than made up for it! I ordered the Butch Jones which is the pancake burrito with sweet apples and sausage on top. So dericious! Super sweet syrup but the bacon inside the burrito and the sausage balanced it out very well. I also sampled some of the Compost Pile, which was so good! Veggies tasted fresh, gravy was delicious with the burger and biscuit! One of my friends ordered the Starving Artist, and she said it tasted fresh, and the veggie gravy had good consistency and flavor.

Some co-​workers and I stopped here the other day on our lunch break and happened to catch their weekend brunch just before they closed! It wasn’t until we sat down at our table that I looked them up on Unilocal and discovered they were to close in half an hour. I immediately felt awful that we were «those people». But I looked up and saw that the place was 100% packed. Every table was full and another party was seated just after us. Our waitress said this was pretty common, so they’re obviously pretty friggin’ popular!
I had already had a huge breakfast, so I opted to two sides — potatoes and breakfast sausage. The potatoes were very nicely seasoned and roasted, but they were cut in much larger chunks than most breakfast potatoes I’ve had. And the breakfast sausage wasn’t seasoned quite enough for my tastes — they were on the bland side.
However, one of my coworkers ordered the Butch Jones and it was absolutely incredible!!! The menu describes this dish as a «smaller pancake» topped with a half order of apples and sausage. This pancake was by no means small. AND it was filled with scrambled eggs and strips of bacon! The apples were cooked to perfection and the sauce it created was caramel-​ly and sweet. This was the perfect sweetness to soak into the pancake and balance the kick of spice from the andouille sausage. My dear co-​worker let me try a bite and I about died — it was absolutely everything you want in a breakfast dish. You got the salty, the sweet, the meat, a punch of flavor, not to mention the perfect layer of textures — the fluffy eggs and pancakes, the crispy bacon and the chewy sausage.
I felt bad for my other coworker. He was on the fence about what to get. All he knew was that he was really hungry. So he ordered a couple things — a pancake topped with the apples and sausage, a side of eggs and a side of bacon. Obviously, once our food arrived we realized this was silly because he could’ve gotten the exact same things by simply ordering the Butch Jones. But the menu didn’t mention the eggs and bacon and the waitress failed to point that out. So he basically got the exact same dish but paid more because of ordering everything separately. Not cool.
One other positive I will note — great selection of music! I constantly noticed, «Hey, I love this song!» And the music was never too loud as to make conversation a challenge.
But now that I know my way around the menu, I will absolutely make the two hour drive back to Columbia as soon as I can so that I can have a Butch Jones all for myself!!!

Probably the best brunch place in town. They have a lot of vegetarian option. Infact they also have the vegetarian gravy on their biscuits. Starving artist is so filling. Its tasty but by the end of finishing the dish the muffin is soaked and mushy. Florentine is spinach with egg with hollandaise sauce and a side of roasted potatoes is yummy and they have a half order for $ 6 which is quite filling. The best part was their freshly squeezed OJ. The ambience is hip. They have outdoor seating as well. If you are alone and its the busy weekend brunch time, sitting by the bar is the way to go and you can appreciate the happenings inside their busy open kitchen. Definitely worth a visit or two if you are in town for the weekend.

Went for brunch today, Saturday. Very crowded and long wait because of graduations. We waited about an hour, but got coffee and lattes while we waited.
First time and the food was very good. I got the Union: scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and ½ biscuit and gravy. Omg the biscuit and gravy was delicious! Also, the roasted potatoes were up there with some of my favorite. There were some white potatoes and some sweet — seasoned perfectly!!!
The place looks like it is always packed. Parking and search is very limited. Seating was ok, but you are very close to other tables and people are walking around and you’re likely to get bumped a couple of times.
Overall, very good! I would go again if in Columbia doing brunch again.
