Dolan’s Lumber Doors & Windows

After speaking with the owner of Dolans Lumber. He was genuinely concerned and apologized about the incident I had with my door. Many businesses would have done NOTHING!
We are only human and can make mistakes at any time! It’s admitting to that, involving ones self to rectifying the problem and moving on!
I have no problems with doing future business with the Dolan Lumber establishment

If I could give them 0 stars I would! Their service sucks! they’re rude! they tell you one day then you have to wait a week more you ask for the warehouse they give you sales three times before you get what you want WTF. Don’t waste your time at dolands on monument Boulevard.

UPDATE: Today, on 5÷27÷15 Dolan’s Lumber did everything a business should do to make a customer feel valued and extremely satisfied. They called me back several times to update me on the screen door and honestly admitted it was their mistake. They owned up to it.
They finished the screen door immediately, did not charge me, and personally delivered it to my house along with a kind note from Mr. Dolan himself.
All good. Everyone makes mistakes once in a while– we are human. But how they responded was simply awesome. Thank you for making it right guys!
At the end of all this, I’ll give them 4 stars because they came back around and made it right.

I know nothing about types of wood but went in with a sample. I got both the education and a price I liked. Very helpful. Easy to arrange special pickup Thank you Dolans!

I am absolutely disgusted with this company! I went to Dolan’s and met with Josh who works there. Josh took a lot of time going over exactly what I wanted for doors. I picked out custom doors with a single panel that were solid core for 10 doors and three solid core bi fold custom doors. I wanted antique door knobs and locks sets for the interior doors and a regular deadbolt knob for exterior doors. I was told by Josh that Dolan’s could mortise my doors for antique door knobs.
I took the time picking out 10 antique lock sets with mortise and they were not cheap or easy to find. I met with Josh and labeled all of my door knob sets to be mortised. Josh came to my home and measured all of my doors.
In addition I labeled every door and sent them back to Dolan’s shop. Josh text me and said one of my doors was missing then later said my doors were identified.
I sent Josh a text which I saved on my phone asking that the doors with deadbolts be bored for 5 and ⁵⁄₈ he responded yes it is drilled for that.
The day of delivery was set between 9 and 11 am. I had paid a painter to spray all of the doors before install. My doors were not delivered at 11 and I had to wait and call several times. When my doors came I paid a painter to spray my doors.
I went to have my doors installed and every single door was the incorrect size. None of the doors were mortised correctly for my door knobs and locks, three of the doors were not even cut for a door knob and the deadbolt door could not even fit the 5 ⁵⁄₈ door knob so I had to purchase another door knob for a 3 ⁵⁄₈ center.
The manager did contact me right away and told me they would fix everything. Dolan’s sent out a carpenter who at first told me my doors would not be under warranty because my house was cold. Really… a cold house made my doors too large, without door knob openings cut and the incorrect size? The contractor measured each door and said they forgot to size the doors before delivering them to me.
Dolan’s had two carpenters cut my doors down at my house sanding them down to brown wood on the sides. They then cut each door knob in and for the door knobs that didn’t fit they put pink bondo all over my brand new doors.
When cutting in one of my lock sets they broke the lock inside my doors and put bondo on that. I get accidents happen but if I wanted doors with bondo all over them I would have gone to Home Depot and ordered cheap doors and installed them myself. These were 7,500 custom doors which is a lot of money for me.
Dolan’s contractor then had the audacity to ask me for 900.00 due to installation is not part of their job. I get that however, my carpenter could not install due to the door knobs and lock sets not being cut before leaving their shop. This part was their job. They made the mistake! I told their worker to get out of my house.
I have contacted channel 7 and I plan to go to small claims. Channel 7 has contacted Dolan’s and I was told federal state law means I receive the doors I ordered. Doors that are cut not square and with bondo all over them is not what I ordered.
I want new doors or for them to fix my doors to look like new with paint. They said they could refer a painter but would not cover the cost. They need to resolve this issue by making my doors looks like new or they can just eat the 7,500 and repurchase me new doors.

These guys are the «A» team. I called them in a little bit of a panic over a leaky window. I spoke to John who helped me trouble shoot the problem with great patience and grace (and no condescension!). He arranged a same-​day trouble shooting visit by Steve who happened to be in my area that day. Both Steve and John came by that afternoon and helped diagnose the problem. It was clear they were deeply experienced professionals who knew their stuff. What’s more, they didn’t solely push an expensive set of new windows. They articulated a range of options as though it was their own home. As a result, I’m sold. Dolan’s now has my business for anything that they sell.

If you are looking for any type of lumber Dolan’s is the place to go. I had a deck project that needed specific size and lengths
I went in on a Sunday and they were open. Mike at the register was very helpful and super friendly!!! The purchase took a matter of a few minutes. So I was in and out. The guys in the yard getting the lumber for you were also great. Super friendly and really looked at the wood to make sure it was in good shape and the best possible. I really appreciated that.
The location is easy to find and have very accessible parking. The pricing is comparable to Home Depot. The service is top notch. They are a large company while still having the local small business feel.
I have purchased windows in the past from them and will not buy from anywhere else.
This is a great place to go!

Over the last year I purchased wood products from several sources in Contra Costa County for an extensive remodel of my home. The best quality/​price was from Dolan’s Concord. Dolan’s people were always helpful and courteous, especially Joel. I often relied on his expertise to direct me to the right product for the task. I would give both Joel and Dolan’s more than 5 stars if I could. Happy to be a repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat customer.

My wonderful experience started with a phone call that was answered by a nice lady whose name I no longer remember. After she listened to what I am looking for she referred me to Josh. I grabbed my tenant improvement plans the next morning and went straight to this store wanting to meet with Josh. I could tell over the phone that these guys are very knowledgeable, they care for their customers and they are honest
Josh is an amazing human being. He heard me telling the lady behind the counter that I would like to see him. He introduced himself and waked me to his desk. He took his time looking over my plan for a door that I need to change in order to become ADA compliant. He wrote me down all the parts that I would need and the price of each. I told him that I have not been able to find a good contractor. He provided me with Wilson’s construction owner’s name and phone number to call. The total amount for the parts turned out to be $ 740. Troy from Wilson construction told me he would charge me $ 1000 to $ 1500 to do the labor. I had at least 3 contractors giving me proposals for this doors and they all requested $ 4000 to $ 4800 to change the door. Just imaging how much money I saved by going to Dolan’s and dealing with Josh. Their store is huge and so organized.
I cannot recommend this business enough to people. Don’t waist your time calling contractors. Go straight to Josh and he will not disappoint you.

Not sure of my overall rating yet. Came into store with decking questions. There were five guys behind desk two with customers the rest on the phone. I had a question so I asked one of the ladies for help she jumped right up trying to help. When one of the guys saw her with me (the customer) and the other woman worker asked him a question at the same time he snapped at the lady helping me. Good customer service would dictate to help the customer in front of him but he turned his back to us and answered the employee. I did finally get help from a super helpful gentleman. I hope when we come back in a couple days to make our purchase they prove the previous post about bad customer service to non-​contractors wrong. It doesn’t take more than 1 second to look up and acknowledge your customer even if busy or on the phone.

Was on my way to Home Depot with my $ 20,000.00. Saw this place decided to check it out. I waited in line behind some contractor that was having a morning conversation with the counter guy. Was talking about the lousy job he was doing on a house that was being foreclosed on. He said why should I care about the quality of work I do. When no one will be there. The guy at the counter glanced over at me twice, as I was waiting. He didn’t bother to end the conversation. So I took my $ 20,000.00 dollars to Home depot. That counter guy just cost Dolan’s Lumber a $ 20,000.00 sale$. True story 5÷6÷14 around 8:15am. If they look at the security tape they will see a guy with blue khakis and a maroon shirt. Standing behind a contractor that’s gabbing away. And watching me walk out with my $ 20,000.00

I went in last Sunday to get the materials for an arbor I am building. I was really pleased how friendly and helpful they were. I’m a weekend warrior when it comes to construction and they took the time to help me, and not make me feel dumb. A very pleasant experience — much better than the do it yourself Home Depot experience.

Good service overall. Prices are generally more expensive than Home Depot, but you don’t have to deal with the lines and the traffic.

Quality of the cider i got was very bad, but that is fault of the mill which it was shipped from. (mostly mechanical damage) But Dolan’s took all bad boards back with no questions and had it reordered right away.

Dolan’s continues to be the best source for QUALITY building materials at decent prices, but the place really excels at customer service. More than once the sales guy offered a discount to me based on past purchases. The staff is helpful and courteous, but there is more…
On one occasion I arrived late in the afternoon, after having called in my order in the morning. When I arrived I realized the office had closed fifteen minutes earlier, and the last sales guy had been about to get in his car. He asked me what I needed, and I told him my order was at will-​call. He found the order, opened the office, fired-​up his computer, took my payment, and gave me my material.
Last Saturday I was trying to herd my chickens in the run (too many coyotes and hawks to free range unaccompanied by humans) and the babies were being difficult. I was heading to Monument Blvd, but was running about five minutes late. I called and asked if they could hang on to sell me a dinky 100′ roll of welded wire fencing. He weren’t happy about it, but remained polite and helpful. I rolled in six minutes late, but got my order paid for with polite conversation and no rush toward the door when I was done.
I am bringing in a couple dozen eggs next time I go to Dolan’s.

I went to Dolan’s for some materials for a desk project. Jeff at the counter was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of the lumber yard so that I could check out pieces of finish plywood. I ended up buying a great looking sheet of the material and having it cut there. I got a great price, too. Dolan’s does get busy on the weekend so you may have to wait a bit, but it’s worth it!

I envy those who received the 5 star experience at Dolan’s. That has not been the case for me. We special ordered a front door in April. The wrong door was ordered, stained and installed In May, with the promise it would be replaced with the correct door.
Here it is September, countless phone calls and excuses later, we still do not have the correct door installed. I feel my only recourse is Unilocal and the BBB! We paid over 3k for the door and installation, which is a lot of money to us.
I have been told many times, «DON’T PAY UNTIL THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED». Maybe this time I have learned my lesson. I feel that our job has no importance, because we have paid in full.
We have been overly patient, and I am just disgusted!

This place has really changed it’s tune over the years. They are now customer oriented, friendly, and as always they have everything you need when it comes to lumber.
I used to love to hate this place for its lackluster customer service and «we only pay attention to contractor» attitude. I would say they’ve done a 180 for the better in customer service. As a lowly homeowner, I felt appreciated and welcome.

The guys and gals that work here are very helpful and left me very happy on the two times I had to visit.
I called ahead before my first visit, finding that they were a Milgard patio door distributor. I was calling because while repairing things in my house I decided to investigate why the patio door locks weren’t working. Turns out the actual levers were broken. Milgard had discontinued the older lever model and I wasn’t sure whether I could use one of the newer ones. I decided to track down a distributor and called the Concord office to see if they had the lever I was looking for.
Jeff who I spoke with on a Saturday told me to call the warehouse on Monday as they were the ones who’d have the hardware and told me to ask for 1 of 3 gentleman. He also gave me general directions and told me where the warehouse was. I called back on Tuesday and after a 1 minute conversation with Mike they found the 2 levers I was looking for. I believe they expected me to show up that day or the next to pick them up. Unfortunately it was a busy week and I only made it out to the Concord area maybe a week later.
Stopped off at the Concord store and explained that I had spoken with Mike and they had parts for me at the warehouse. The guy took me outside, pointed out where the warehouse was and I walked over, basking in the sun. Took me some time to find the office in the warehouse where the guys were. Mostly because I was waiting for a worker helping a customer out with wood selection for their next project. After getting to the office, the two levers I asked for had been set aside and despite being sized slightly differently, would do the trick.
I took the levers back to the office and spoke with a guy at the Contractors sales desk to pay for them. He guesstimated at $ 5 for both. Cash. I could have feasibly just got straight into my car instead of paying but that wasn’t reasonable given that the new ones online were priced at $ 10 each. Took them home and installed them in minutes.
I had further issues with one of the door handles after all of this when a landscaper wrenched the outdoor handle off. After narrowing down the issue to the threads being worn on the outdoor handle piece (not the screws being the wrong size) I decided to simply jump in the car and head to Dolan’s rather than calling ahead.
Went straight to the warehouse office since I knew where it was now, showed the guy the handle I needed a replacement for. He gave me a very slightly used handle (perhaps the only one they had) which did the trick. Again, I could have just left without paying but instead went back to the office to pay for the $ 8 replacement handle. This time around the guy at the Contractor sales desk called the office and they decided to part with the used handle — no charge.
Absolutely brilliant. I know Dolan’s doesn’t make their money from such small replacement parts and I’m happy they don’t take it too seriously. If I had a larger project I’d definitely look towards them for my needs.
