We hired Pat a long time ago. We were overall satisfied with his work he is a very kindhearted person however his follow-​through and timeline were not exactly accurate. One thing that is a concern at this point is that there is a leak in some of the outdoor irrigation work that he had done for us. We have contacted him and I am waiting to hear back. We will see how he handles this portion of his work being that he always states that he is behind any piece of work he does for the long haul.

I want to start off by saying Pat does incredible work, however his communication, follow through, and completion of the project was a disaster. He knows what looks great and has knack for making your vision come to life. Our backyard was a blank canvas of dirt when we decided to do a complete landscape of our yard. We found Pat on Unilocal and asked him to come out and give us a quote. Coincidently, after we had already called, we found out our good friends were also getting their backyard renovated by him. They were extremely helpful in their recommendation and let us know what we would be in for, and we thought it would be best to pass this information on.
Off the bat, we really liked Pat. His prices were extremely competitive and he was by far the best quote. His vision for our backyard was exactly what we were looking for and he knew what would be best for us, and our budget. Most importantly, he was very quick to get back to us and was ready to start the work immediately. We were eager to begin as we were within a couple of short months of welcoming our second child and wanted our backyard complete before our child arrived.
His workers began around the end of April. In our contract we were quoted approx. 10 – 12 days weather permitting (luckily there was no bad weather) for the work (irrigation, laying pavers, retaining wall, sod, irrigation, and bark). The project began with his men working tirelessly and even coming on Saturdays (which was amazing).
As our project went underway, we were told things were going to start taking longer. Materials that were needed were not available, workers got hurt, all understandable and we were aware this could happen based on our friends recommendation.
Here is where the real problems began. We decided to add some plants to our contract to finish off our yard. We had some problems with our irrigation and drip system, plants were dying, his workers broke our trellis and needed to be fixed, and our retaining wall was not fully glued in and our 1 ½ year old got hurt because of the loose blocks. We called over a dozen times trying to get things fixed, sometimes we would get a response and there were times we would not. We were told they would be coming out «this week» and «I’ll call you and let you know which day this week we will be out» and heard nothing.
Today is July 23^rd and the project that we have almost paid in full (less 100 dollars) is still incomplete. We have called him every week for the last two months to come and finish the job. The one time his worker did come out, he replaced a plant (which is now dead because the drip system was not complete) and left the dead plants for us to clean up. They also did not clean up the extra bark or caps for the retaining wall (that is still not fixed and a danger to our child). We also had one of his workers walk into our backyard asking us to pay him for his work, and then return a different day with his grandson to translate.
We paid almost in full for this project in good faith that Pat would come and finish the work he started and unfortunately that is not the case. Had the job been completed and his responsiveness was better we would be giving him a better rating. Now we are left with a retaining wall with loose blocks, 2 dead plants, and a drip system that is still not working properly. At this point, we are beyond frustrated and feel forced to move on to a new company to complete the work.

Pat and his crew came out and did what they said they would do; lay down pavers, grass, and installed an irrigation system. During this time, I found that my dog ingested marijuana which he found in the back yard during the time of the job. Was it accidentally left by the Pat’s crew? Possibly… (the vets visit cost me more that $ 500 after the drugs affected my dog). After the job they mentioned they would remove the old bricks and stones I had prior in the backyard, but they never followed up. To this day the stones and bricks are still sitting in my backyard.
About 6 months later I noticed that one of my sprinkler heads was leaking and created a mud patch that my kids got into which eventually left me cleaning up muddied kids clothes and mud tracks in the house. I contacted Pat and after 12 days he came out took a look and ‘fixed’ the issue. Though, I wish he could have saved the patch of grass that died off from the excess watering, I have dealt with it.
11 months later another one of the sprinkler heads started leaking as well. I went along with Pat to again help support me in my time of needs, but instead I received sporadic responses whether it was by email or text. It has been over month and all that has been done is one visit and Pat telling me whats wrong. No fix, and barely any response or support from Pat and now my grass is nice and yellow instead of green, because I can’t use the sprinklers.
If you go with Pat, please be aware of his lack or responsiveness. I am not sure if he is too busy, or nick-​picks his requests, but if I knew I would be getting this kind of response and a faulty irrigation system I would have never paid over $ 4,000 for this.
Please beware as I will never go with H&H Landscaping again.

H&H Landscaping has the skill to perform all sorts of landscaping projects. I am glad that I listened to other Unilocal reviewers and gave Pat the chance to work on my outdoor renovation project. I am completely satisfied of Pat’s workmanship, commitment and attentive to details and certainly will work with him again, unless he retires!
Back to reality. I must apologize to many H&H’s clients that worked from Aug 2014 to May 2015, as that is the duration of my project in Walnut Creek. During this period, Pat’s crews have been working at my yard performimg various tasks, as you can reference to the numerous pictures I uploaded here. My family felt quite bad when reading some of the Q4 2014 review that Pat was nowhere to be seen, but his crews had been working on my project. Undoubtedly, we have had experienced both goods and bads throughout the project; however, Pat is fully committed to complete the job and finish with our complete satisfaction. I am quite handy and also an engineer; therefore, I have extremely high caliber on quality. At times, I had to call Pat to meet with me on Sunday to have work re-​done because his crew could not satisfy my need. At times, I could have been anal but he still got my wish granted — thank you. I also was reasonable on some occasion when a different set of tiles was used that mixed up with the other area; however because the texture was similar and we told Pat that we just treated that as our unique pattern.
Here is our outdoor renovation project, and why it took that long:
Our project started out as renovating the backyard that covered with unattended lawn. and then expanded to replacing the front yard, side yard and wrapped up with the driveway paving stone since it tied between the side and front yard. I noted to Pat that he could tackle the whole project «if» there are efficiency gain that benefited both parties. With that, we executed the contract with all of our outdoor spaces. Like many projects with indecisive home owners, we tend to «come up» with lots of ideas. With that, we also executed many change order that prolonged project duration.
Overall — we have Lawn, Creek (Yes — Pat installed a 60 ft creek with circulating pump), Gazebo, Veggi box, Shed (Pat installed the foundation), Spa pad & Fence, Driveway paving stone, Paving stone patio, Flagstone patio, Flagstone path, AC fence, Sump pits for drainage, Drainage from downspouts, Irrigation & timer, White picket fence, Mailbox column made with paver stones, Paving stone walkway x2, Tile for front porch, Landscaping, Coordinated the required electrical work too!
Long story short. I have uploaded lots of pictures that included the before picture, progress and completed project. Pat is extremely capable of the irrigation system, drainage, woodwork, paving stone, creek installation, fence, painting, sump pit, and many many of skills.
As mentioned, I have high expectation for quality work and Pat has passed with flying color. During this period, I also have spoken to one of Pat’s potential client and had no problem to recommend his service. As of today, I still recommend his service and glad that I have partnered up with him on my outdoor renovation project.
Other Unilocal reviewers also noted the negative side, such as scheduling, some crew members could work harder, some asked for water. these are all true but to me, I expect quality and cost over scheduling. I also have taken his crew out for lunch and brought them beers and water. I know how much they have worked and definitely deserved taking breaks whenever they are needed. I love working with Pat and his crews.
Keep up the good work and I will certainly be kept in touched, as there are warranty for his work! In fact, he stopped by and took care of some problem after we are done here.

Update — H&H came through and made the necessary adjustments without question that I had asked for. Some plants were replaced and adjustments made to the sprinkler system. A couple of plants still look a little weak but certainly better than before!

Okay, I think I’d go for 3.5 stars if that was an option. The short version is that although there were many bumps along the way on my project, I would hire Pat again.
Good:
Of the 3 companies I got estimates from, Pat was the one who I felt really listened to me and understood the project.
His prices are reasonable.
He provided excellent suggestions for alternate layouts and construction options, many of which we incorporated.
His workers were polite and asked me before going forward if they weren’t sure of how I wanted something to look.
Part of the project was not done well. I contacted Pat, he returned and agreed a section needed to be redone. We agreed on a timetable and the work was redone correctly.
The final result was exactly what I wanted.
Bad:
His time management is not good. The job took about twice as long as planned. He often left his workers here unable to continue working while waiting for him to return with needed supplies.
He was rarely on-​site — I think he had several jobs going at once. This led to the problem of him not getting supplies to workers as needed.
Because of his own time constraints and the job running long, he threw a whole bunch of people who hadn’t been working here at it on the last day. The result was a rushed job with a very poorly done section. This was later fixed, but added more time to the total project.
He occasionally blamed his workers for the slowness of completion. As the owner, it’s his responsibility to have the work completed in a timely fashion.

After I wrote my last review I was contacted by 2 different people on Unilocal who had the same exact experience with this company that I had. This worried me more that I was never going to get my yard fixed.
HOWEVER, it took a few weeks, but Pat and his crew finally came through and replaced my bad sod. It doesn’t look amazing, but I’m sure the scorching heat doesn’t help it grow pretty. I’m going to give it some time and love and hopefully it’ll fill in nicely.
The reason why I am updating this review to 4 stars, and it’s really higher, about 4.5, is because I have had 2 major problems and they were handled very quickly by Pat and his crew.
The first was when one of my sprinkler heads erupted and was flowing water into the street (during this draught!) Pat’s crew showed up that day and replaced the sprinkler head.
The second was just today. My husband knocked off one of the valves on the system and the sprinklers wouldn’t shut off. Pat showed up this morning and fixed the valve and instructed me how to turn off the water.
I really appreciate a businessman who answers my text messages promptly and his quick reaction to my sprinkler system meltdowns has definitely earned my respect.

We worked with Pat on 2 projects this year and are very happy with the results.
Pat has an impressive knowledge about plants, he is experienced with horticulture in our area, and with patio paver/​wall installation in particular.
Pat and his team installed 2 paver-​stone patios, barrier walls, and a full backyard for us, including MANY plants, an irrigation system, planter boxes, trees, and landscape lighting. We’re very pleased with how it turned out… Pat and his team worked hard to complete the projects in a reasonable amount of time, and showed a nice attention to details as well as clean-​up.
Compared to his competitors, Pat’s prices are extremely fair (in one case almost half the price), and he does his best to keep costs low, while offering incredible value. He does an awesome job suggesting the best plants, etc for your needs, stands behind his work, and is a great guy

Our front yard was in desperate need of a refresh. I called numerous landscaping companies and H&H was the only one who returned a phone call. Pat came over on a Saturday morning and talked over what my wife and I needed to get done. We came up with a plan, he wrote up a contract, and we had a new front yard (full disposal, plantings, irrigation system, grass) within a week.
It is clear Pat has been in the business a long time and you can see his experience when he works with you. His crew was always on time, they did what they said they were going to do, cleaned up, and he always accommodated my crazy work schedule to meet with me.
As other people stated, Pat is really easy and fair to deal with. We changed our minds on a few minor tasks, and there was no problem in truing up with each other.
Thumbs up from my wife and I, and we look forward to having Pat back for future work opportunities.

I don’t write as many reviews on Unilocal as I should, but this one I had to take the time to put in. Muneer and Pat of H&H landscaping are both excellent service people who get top marks in all the major categories of landscaping service. They listen carefully, contribute good design ideas, have lots of expertise, and charge very reasonable rates for their jobs. Muneer’s crew of landscapers is professional, skilled, hardworking and above all pleasant to interact with.
These guys did a fantastic job on my yard and were quick to come back when I asked for help resolving a couple issues. Muneer made sure that my plants were thriving and my irrigation was working properly — he clearly understands what good service entails and takes pride in his work. I expect to hire H&H for my next project in 2014.

Did a very mediocre job. Didn’t communicate well, little attention to detail. Very sloppy. I wouldn’t recommend him.

Called on Friday afternoon about a problem with a broken/​leaking main water valve, and Muneer of H&H returned my call promptly and arrived the next day, Saturday. He explained the problem in detail and resolved it for a very reasonable and fair price. In the future, I expect to call him to address other matters (landscaping, fences, etc.) that I’d prefer to address, at a later date.

I hired Pat (co-​owner of H&H) after 3 initial meetings about what I wanted done to my front yard. It was a fairly large job so I did my due diligence — Pat & I discussed many design ideas for my front yard. The job took approx 12 days; demo my existing frontyard landscaping, demo cracked concrete drive way, grading, drainage, 1500+ sq feet of pavers installed, major landscaping, sprinklers, planting, fence building, etc (see pictures).
Pat is great to work with, extremely knowledgeable about many topics, great design ideas, flexible, great communication skills, does what he says, calls if plans change, has a great crew, does things on-​time, is a nice guy… you can’t ask for much more. Hands down he’s in the top 5% of landscape contractors.
I’m very happy with my new front yard and driveway. Pat and his team did a great job and delivered at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend H&H Landscaping.

I recently hired Muneer Hassan and his crew from H&H Landscaping to transform my entire yard from a post-​construction pile of mud, dirt, and weeds into a lovely garden oasis.
You name it, Muneer can do it! He leveled our yard, cleared out weeds, designed & installed an irrigation system, layed sod, and installed a beautiful stone patio, walkway, and stepping stones. Lastly, he and his efficient crew planted and mulched 100s of plants, shrubs, and trees.
Before hiring Muneer, I spoke with at least seven different landscape contractors about our project. Muneer was the most thorough, sincere, honest, and eager person I met. He is knowledgeable, customer-​service oriented, and extremely diligent. He was willing to work within our budget and as a result, we have a beautiful finished product for 1000s of dollars less that if we would have hired anyone else.
I cannot recommend him highly enough!

H&H Landscaping did a really great job with my house in Berkeley, that my wife and I bought last August. Their advice and improvements helped us make the yard kid and dog-​friendly.
Pat and his assistant Scott did all the work. Unlike other contractors I’ve dealt with in the past, H&H did the work on-​time, and always charged us what they said they would up front — no forced changed orders once they started working.
I first called Pat to put some sod and sprinklers in my yard. His quote was very affordable, and the work happened right away and looked great, and the grass is still doing well months later.
Since that first bit of work, Pat has put in pave stones for us, along our driveway and to fill out our patio. He also created a new back fence and side fence in different styles, and re-​aligned and repaired an old gate.
In the future, I will always call H&H for any landscaping work. The people and work are both great!

I have to agree with the other reviewer — Pat at H&H Landscaping did a great job for me, and I’ll be using their services again soon.
I needed to put in a small lawn at my new home in Upper Rockridge, but I’d just moved and had very little to spend on this. I had a couple bids from landscapers used by neighbors and friends, but they were just too high for me, a single mom. I posted an ad on CL assuming I’d find some amateur and just prayed it would somehow work out — but, even via CL most of the bids were $ 200-​$ 500 more than I could afford, and I was unimpressed by the couple guys I had come to see the place.
Then Pat emailed me — his Green Spaces website convinced me to have him come out and make a real bid. He’s a total professional, very reliable and easy to reach, with 20 years’ experience, and he was less expensive than most of the competitors. He has clients/​references around the East Bay.
He and his crew did a great job on my lawn and worked SO hard. And best — he actually fixed a very old and nonfunctioning sprinkler system that everyone else told me could not be fixed! That has saved me $s and tons of maintenance time. I have recommended H&H to everyone I know and am really pleased with his follow up. Pat is a nice guy and well worth a call for lawns/​irrigation, garden maintenance, and hardscapes.

My wife and I were searching the internet for a quality landscape services and went through about 5 bids and meetings with various companies. We could not find one company that appeared professional and organized. And then we were lucky enough to drive past a crew working on a house in my neighborhood.
We stopped and noticed the quality of work the crew was doing and asked for a business card. That is when we were introduced to Pat and H&H Landscaping.
They were very knowledgeable and professional during our bid process, and of all people we talked to, Pat was without a doubt the friendliest, most informative, and easiest to work with. Oh yeah, and H&H was also the best price.
We are just wrapping up our large project (750 square foot patio of pavers, a new landing, full irrigation, and landscaping with new sod and planter beds). We have been pleased with the work and can’t wait to get out there and enjoy the end of summer in our new yard.
