I just moved into my new place and had some issues with the dishwasher. The water wasn’t draining out and even though I’ve only used it once, water kept filling up and pooling in the bottom. My real estate agent recommended Tweedy. I called them today at 2pm, the guy on the phone was extremely helpful and professional. Johnny was out to my house within the promised 20 – 30 minutes (on a Saturday!). He checked things out and helped me with another small request. The dishwasher ran and drained — of course it did! — and Johnny told me that today was free of charge. Wow! These guys are wonderful. They couldn’t have been nicer nor more efficient. Thanks so much! I love keeping my business local to Costa Mesa and am always happy when I can write a great review for a neighborhood business.

Half the battle of keeping my 88-​year old mom in her home is simply ensuring that her home doesn’t crumble around her. By Newport Beach standards her circa 1964 Dover Shores home is practically ready for landmark historic building status. With original everything, the whole thing feels like a time bomb and I can never be certain what I’ll next get charged with repairing.
May was toilet month.
In Southern California I’ve found that businesses ask, when I call them, «how’d you hear of us?» I like this as it seems to imply that they care about how they’re perceived. When Channin Tweedy asked how I learned of Tweedy’s I explained that they were recommended on
and that I then consulted Unilocal to read what other people had to say. On Unilocal I liked the responses from the owner, especially those which explained why Tweedy’s might not be the cheapest plumbing bid you’ll get. It’s a reasonable response which explains that Tweedy’s pays for things (worker’s comp, general liability insurance) which unlicensed contractors might not. And besides, Tweedy’s offers a completely free on-​site estimate so what’s to lose by having them bid a project?
It’s with this mindset that I requested a free on-​site estimate for the non-​functioning toilet.
Tweedy’s came out the following morning and followed up that afternoon with a written quote, exactly as promised. I thought I’d use that to get a bid from another contractor but when it came down to it their bid seemed reasonable and they could do the work the following day.
Could I have saved money going elsewhere? Perhaps, but that would’ve required me to hunt down and get a bid from another plumber, after again checking nextdoor and Unilocal.Contrary to popular belief, I have a life.
Brett and Tim came by the following day, swapped out the old toilet and installed a new, low-​flow, ADA-​compliant toilet. The grand total was $ 548, they left the space spotless, and I didn’t need to spend any more time thinking about or dealing with the problem.
In the Bay Area I’ve had to pay as much as $ 275 for a HVAC house call so I well-​understand the benefit of someone offering a free on-​site estimate. There might be times I’d choose to shop that bid around but wait. Nah, who am I kidding? Tweedy’s did an excellent job.
Time will tell what I’ll have the pleasure of repairing or replacing next month. If it’s another toilet though? I’ll probably be calling Tweedy’s.

As i sit here waiting to hear back from ‘Tweedy’ on a possible 75 gall. water heater replacement and reading some of the Unilocal reviews, I decided to chime in on my past experiences with them. I have been using Tweedy almost exclusively at my two office buildings and home (2) for the past 10 years. (Costa Mesa and Newport Beach). These guys are good, fast, creative, friendly and just cool people to work with. The prices have always seemed reasonable and fair. I had a major issue at my Costa Mesa building a few years back that was causing a majorback up into a shower and sinks and leaking everywhere. The Tweedy guys came out (FAST) and spent a day looking for the problem. (its an 18,000 sf building so there were lots of places to consider) As i recall they sent another guy out the next day and we tried cutting into a wall downstairs to access a main drain line. They then cut into the drain pipe and found the problem and fixed it. I don’t recall the exact price but it was a fraction of what i expected it to be. My apologies to the four Tweedy tech’s as I’m terrible with names (Brett and Shannon are two names I recall.) OK… back to today… at 8:00 am i called with my current problem. (they open at 8:00) 25 minutes later Shannon calls me from the road to inform me he is on his way to the office to check my water heater Model Numbers and will have someone out today. BAM! These guys are the BOMB. So if you have a plumbing problem — you should call ‘em. (sorry for the long ‘review’ but i just got a bit carried away…:)

I collected bids from several other plumbers before calling Tweedy and they stand out as being rude, unprofessional and almost criminally overpriced which is why I am taking the time to write this review.
For installing dishwasher/​garbage disposal/​hooking up the kitchen sink the industry standard seems to be around $ 300…they quoted $ 490.
To hook up/​fix my washing machine plumbing other quotes ran in the ballpark of $ 200 (one Plummer was fairly confident we could fix it ourselves) they quoted me $ 600
to run water from my sink to my refrigerator…$ 1,200!!! this is a job my hubby can do himself but since his to-​do list is a mile long he asked me to see what the quote would be. The guys weren’t even sure how they were gonna do it running all over my house scratching their heads not exactly filling me with confidence in their know-​how or expertise.
Maybe I just got some bad plumbers sent to my house but even if that’s the case I will be telling people to steer clear of this operation. It’s insulting to feel like people are so willing to try to take advantage of you. Also it was just abundantly clear that these guys had no idea how they were going to do the work. A good plumber can tell you how he plans on accomplishing a job.

Easy to get a hold of, came out right away, fair price. Can’t beat that! Will definitely use again.

AWESOME service from Von and Vince! Tweedy came out SAME DAY. Yesterday some fools from Sears’ installation service told me they could not install my new slide-​in range because the gas line and granite countertop interfered. Enter Von and Vince, who accomplished the feat in under 2 hours! Tweedy never says «no» or «can’t do it» — this is why I have used them for over 15 years!

I know Tweedy, They do awesome work. I like them so much I keep there card in my wallet and their sticker on my truck. When I am out and about and someone needs a plumber, I give them Tweedy’s number. They wont lie to you about a job. Everyone I know says tweedy is fair priced and gets the job done right.

Ask for Von and Vince. They did a good deed for me by coming over for a quick look at my pressure problem while in the neighborhood and fixed it the next day. Good guys and made a great impression, my first experience with this company.
On the other hand, whoever is answering the phone should take some lessons from Vince and Von. As a small business owner I know that you should stack your best people at the front where first impressions are made. Be prepared to feel like you have a passive/​aggressive personality on the phone if you call the office first. Go ahead and make an appointment anyway… you’ll eventually have Von and Vince at your home.

What waste of my time. Tweedy serviced my fireplace a few years ago and did a good job so I called again for getting my fireplace serviced this time. They sent out a repairman who after fussing for a few minutes admitted he had never serviced a fireplace before. And had no idea how to fix the problem. I sent him away and never heard a word from tweedy. No call, no apology, no nothing. Tweedy destroyed business from a repeat customer and I’ll be sure to share my experience with the homeowners association and my neighbors

One word to sum up this company: FABULOUS! We had a gas leak and our gas service was turned off at 9:00 pm on Thursday. I called Tweedy Plumbing at 9:01 PM and left a message to call. First thing in the morning we received a return call. We made an appointment for 2:00. Von showed up at 2:15; however, at 1:45 we received a call that he would be about 15-​minutes late as he was tied up at another job. At 2:15, Von shows up– just as promised. He did the inspection and said he could do the work that afternoon — thank heavens! He dug up and removed a big gross hedge-​thing and hauled it away. He then replaced the old corroded pipe (s) and installed a shiny new something (plumbing isn’t my forte) with a yellow handle so any fool (me) can turn off the gas during an emergency. Thank you, thank you Tweedy! If you are looking for a dependable plumber with excellent customer service skills and competitive pricing, look no further than Tweedy’s.

We used Tweedy to fix a long-​leaking pipe and inspect another issue. I learned of Tweedy given their active involvement in the Costa Mesa community and Chamber of Commerce. They arrived with shoe booties and promptly identified and fixed the issue for what I believe to be an exceptional/​fair price. Thank you Tweedy!

These guys are great, dependable and very professional. I had some emergency work that needed to be done quickly and they took care of it efficiently with urgency. I am very pleased with their customer focused approach and will be looking to them for my future needs. It’s also a great plus that this is a local and family run business.

Support local business! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tweedy Plumbing on several plumbing projects. They are really good people who do really good work. The owner Brett Tweedy has been involved in the Newport Beach surf community since the 70’s. You can bump into him having some laughs with the guys over at the Froghouse surf shop, down at blackies by the sea checking out the surf, or down at the Costa Mesa dog park with his golden retriever. I have used Tweedy Plumbing for quite a while and had no reason to complain until recently.
The cartridge on my Newport Brass Faucet needed to be replaced, so I called them to do the job, just as I had once before. When Newport Brass sent me the replacement part they noted on the instruction to plumber to only use a silicone based lube on the faucet cartridge and rings.
I showed these instruction to the plumber they sent out. He scoffed and said no problem they use «plumbers grease». I didn’t know the difference so let him proceed with job. When he finished the faucet spout was so tight I had a hard time moving it with two hands! Also it took so much effort to move it that it was coming loose at the base and a black oil – which, I know now, was a mixture of the grease and water – was oozing out the top handle and mid section of faucet.
Called they came back, worked on the faucet some more and proclaimed it fixed & that I could spray WD40 on it as it was fish oil based, (not true, it’s petroleum based!)
OK spout still too tight and very hard to move. Meanwhile grease and water continue to seep from faucet.
Called Newport Brass, they said the plumber must have used petroleum product in spite of what I asked, and that causes the O rings to swell and ruin the faucet cartridge!
I have ended up having to get a new faucet, pay to have another plumber install it too boot!
Will, of course, never use Tweedy again, and you should think twice before you do either.

We had a leak Inside the bathroom wall in our home. The walls were wet and needed to get someone out ASAP. We called Tweedy who was recommended by a the owner of the home and they were able to respond the same day and repair the leak. The plumber was polite, friendly and explained everything he was doing. Great experience.

They were able to come out the same day. They followed up with phone calls. Fix the problem immediately and were extremely well priced. I highly recommend using them. I live in an old house and was nervous about the repairs but now I know I have someone to call if anything goes wrong again.

Their plumber came out and gave me my «free estimate». I scheduled an appointment as instructed. I explained that I had nothing in writing on the price, she replied it wasn’t a problem because they send the same guy to do the work. Took time off work to meet the plumber — they sent a different guy. This guy explains that the other underbid the job «as usual», he leaves — leaving my door open. I call the office. The same gal claims there was a misunderstanding on the price, so they won’t honor the bid. She wants me to take more time off work and schedule another appointment at a higher price. FYI I am a general contractor so I speak the language. There was no misunderstanding. These are the type of contractors that give us all a bad name. Stay away!

I called Tweedy this morning and they were over in the afternoon and fixed my kitchen drain. They called 30 minutes in advance to let me know they were on their way.

I must say that tweedy plumbing is the best. I had my main line worked on by others previously, I kept having some of the same issues with the main sewer line backing up. I was referred by a friend to call tweedy. Emmett came out the same day, at the time they said he would. He was able to find and fix the problem in the line with the camera. every thing went down super smooth (no pun intended) with the drain and the transaction after the job was done. its been about a year since and so far the repair to the sewer line has held up. I’ve called them several times since then for other minor repairs with the water lines and faucets and stuff. the guys always do a great job, their work is worth every penny. I recommended them to my mom and now she uses their services too. she is also very satisfied.

I have used these guys a lot. Too much but that’s what happens when you own an old home.
