Friendly guys willing to give advice with plenty of knowledge. My fish died after 2 weeks of having them…

I’ve been coming here for about 2 years now. I started with a fresh water tank, but fell in love with the salt water fishes i’ve seen in there so I bought a used tank, stand, sump and protien skimmer from him (previously owned by one of his customers) for a good deal. He and his son Phillip helped me to set it up with minimal equipment (as well as helping me to replace the return pump I wanted to upgrade). I have bought several LPS and soft coral, RO and saltwater from him, all corals I’ve bought from him have come out on the same day bought. I have bought all my invertebrates from him, most of my fishes and two RBTAs with no signs of disease.
I’ve been to other fish stores in the area, but I have not had 100% success with integration as I have with fish from P&P.

I drove about 20 minutes to get to the fish store after reading some reviews and looking at them online I figured it may be worth the drive. I got there and spent 15 minutes with no help the guy working at the front desk who I believe is the owner didnt even bother to ask me if we needed any help, also we were the only ones in the store. I was with my girlfriend and we established her fresh water tank about 4 days before and wanted to put some simple tropical community fish. This being my 6^th fish tank I really already had an ideal of what we should get but wanted his expertise. Right off the bat he had the ugliest attitude with me and told me they won’t sell me fish unless my tank has been set up for a minimum of 10 days. I was shocked and said we don’t care to wait another week for some tetras and simple fish. He told me he doesn’t really care for me, so I said I will bring my business to another place. I never ever try to think someone is motivated by race based on the way they treat me but for him to not want to sell me fish and state he does not care for me because my fish tank is 4 – 5 old is ridiculous. I am black my girlfriend is Mexican and we were with her 8 year old daughter, I wasted still in my suit as I just got off work but we did not deserve to get treated like we did. I will never step foot in this store again. They did have some good fish and the prices were decent but part of establishing a tank is finding a solid place to help you grow this tank, this is not it.

This is my go to store. They are always willing to help out and they remember me and ask how I’m doing. Feels great to get this support

Been to this store so many times. I’ve been very polite in asking questions. Learned from the few years I’ve kept fish to do research, research, research on fish before impulse buying. Fish purchasing is a very delicate thing. Especially if the fish being purchased is of high value, not your regular guppy, or platy. So I’ve been eyeing some delhezi bichirs for a while now… WHILE my tanks is still cycling, so I’ve been visiting, and checking the fish I was going to buy.
I’ve learned that the store is for sale but the amount is wooo exceedingly expensive. Or else I would’ve bought it and started my own. I might still do that at a lower starting price. Anyway, my tanks have cycled and I am ready to buy the bichirs, all four of them. I came in with a smile on my face, and Paul was just coming out from the back of the store. His wife was listening to her religious music, and doing some work. I asked if the watermelon pleco was sold and the response I get ???. «Well some customers come in here to actually spend money, not like YOU». come in here and never buy fish” … WOW ! LOLOL !!!
I knew there was a reason I never wanted to buy fish at this store. I thought we were having some pleasant conversation in the past few days I’ve been visiting, checking out the fish I was going to buy, only after my fish tank has completely cycled. But apparently, the long wait has affected certain patience of other individuals.
Money does things to people. Paul commented that he always buy fish, all the time, whether he has fish or not because he has a lot of money.
All I have to say is that «good luck on your retirement Paul. Hope you get to visit all those places that you wanted to visit.» Your wife is very nice.
I really wished that you’d stick with me because I do not buy fish on impulse. I study the fish, I research the fish, and make sure that my fish tank is ready for the fish. I even told you, that I just re-​started my fish tanks, and that means they have to go through the Nitrogen Cycle. I mentioned that to you about 6 weeks ago.

I was in the area and decided to check out a fish store that had discus. Let me say Paul cares for his fish. He was worried that I just started my tank 3 weeks ago and he said I had to let it run more for discus. Non the less I still bought the discus that are amazing prices. He was telling me to start with small and don’t waste money on bigger fish for now. Wow amazing advice. And didn’t seem like he wanted to take my money like other places I have gone to before. This is a drive for me about an hour but I will return to buy more fish and plants. Lots of selections. Thank you Paul

First time at this store and I can say Paul knows his stuff. If you buy your fish and they die that’s because you didn’t take care of the fish or didn’t have the time to educate yourself on how to take care of a tank. I learned a few things on how to take care of fish… thanks to Paul

I went in yesterday to check out there cichlids and was very impressed by both the store and the owner. They had some amazing looking peacocks along with some of the more interesting and unique freshwater fish. It looked like he also had a great selection of saltwater, but I’m not extremely knowledgable with salt water. The owner had really good info and tips about cichlids and I enjoyed talking with him. I walked out of the store with two peacocks (which were incredibly well priced for there size at 6 dollars) and would definitely recommend this store to anyone in the area.

I walked into this store accidentally… was headed next door. I was so happy to see all the beautiful tanks and such a great variety of fish. I am having an issue with the water in my 55 gal Koi tank. He explained what I needed to help correct the issue. I will be back there this week to pick up the item he suggested and a new wave maker. The owner and his wife were very nice and answered all my questions, even though I was not spending any money at that time. I appreciated him taking the time to assist me.

Great fish store and the owner has great knowledge. They are great people of trust and deserve everyone’s business! So don’t cater to big fish stores and support them because they are genuine people trying to make an honest living!

I don’t do the Unilocal thing but this needed to be reviewed. I may be harsh with the 1 star but today is the last day I step foot in P&P. They are my local fish store and I buy stuff there from time to time but yesterday I went and bought fresh RO water because I’m trying to do some breeding and was setting up a tank and tested my water today and saw it hasn’t changed so I went today and bought 15 gallons more and did a 75% water change and waiting a bit and just tested it to see if any change and nothing so I tested the extra RO water left over and sure enough they sold me regular tap water so I contacted Paul the owner and he blamed it on that he needed to change the filter. Well that is unacceptable to me and wonder how many others that bought his water and put it in there tank. That could do some damage to some fish. Luckily I didn’t already have my pair of discus in there Or there would be more to this negative review. Now I have to wait longer to get my process going So beware of the RO is all I say about this fish store.
I went back and got my refund back from P&P the water I bought but still Had to make an unwanted trip to strictly fish which they tested there RO for me before I purchased it since I was very disappointed with P&P.
I looked at the reviews after I posted my review and I’ve seen Paul’s responses and it seams like he doesn’t care about anyone but himself and his $$ in his pocket and I’ve know Paul for over 2 years and that’s exactly how he is greedy it’s all about $$$$ not customer service. I’m surprised he gave me my $$ back. Sorry I’m just very pissed about the situation he put me in.

Great place. The owner and his wife are very nice. We buy feeder fish here regularly. They have great variety. Price is average. Great hours and location is perfect. Ive come here for a year now. Highly recommend.

The owner, Paul, and his wife are very nice people. We have a 100 gallon tank, 2 smaller tanks, a 150 gallon pond, a 75 gallon pond, and 2 50 gallon pots filled with fresh water fish. So we visit the store quite often usually looking for new fish. I would not advise buying treatment solutions from here because more than likely, you will find things cheaper on the internet. But if we need something quick to treat our sick fish, we will usually drop by here to buy it ASAP.
We are new to raising Koi in a pond and let me tell you, it is not easy… there are so many factors that come into play in raising these guys. If you do not have the dedication, stick to goldfish. We have gone through soooo many Koi because of the lack of knowledge in raising Koi. But we have definitely gotten better thanks to Paul and his advice.
His selection of fish is definitely better than the bigger chain pet stores such as PetSmart or PetCo. So definitely drop by to check it out.

I’ve been giving this place a chance for almost a year now, and they still have the same Lanceolatus groupers in tanks so small they can’t even turn around, how cruel.
Ich seems to be something they always have a good supply of in the saltwater section, as tonight a poor blue tang (Dori fish) laid it’s side looking as if someone salted it, desperately trying to breath. That’s right, just leave it there until it dies and all the cysts fall off releasing millions of larval ich into the water column and infecting the entire system, as if it wasn’t already.
In dozens of visits I have yet to NOT see ich infested, dying and dead fish in the salt section.
(ps. it only takes a few minutes a few times a day to walk the store and take them out.)
What is with only stocking ridiculously huge freshwater fish that NEVER sell and NONE of the simple bread and butter fresh water tropicals that keep a small fish store in business???
What a waste of great floor/​tank space.
Owner only stocks what he personally likes, is obviously burned out and no longer gives a crap, then complains about how bad business is… priceless.
He should just sell the business, it will save the lives of countless fish I promise you.

Even though I am not a Flower Horn enthusiast, I wanted to check out the Flower Horn competition hosted at P&P Tropical Fish. It was a happenin’ affair with music, food, prizes and, of course, many beautiful specimens of Flower Horn fishes. P&P is located in Cypress on Ball road and is a well-​run well stocked local fish shop.
Next time? I spied some fishes that I have not seen in other shops that will make a great addition to my tank.

Selection and variety of the freshwater selection is great. Largest mom and pop store I’ve come across in SoCal. One half of the store devoted to the livestock, the other portion to tanks/​accessories.
I purchased two Demonsoni from here in January that were a little overpriced, but at the time this was the only store I had seen them in. Don’t know if I would buy any other fish from here. They do keep a wide selection of large, fully matured fish if you need to stock a tank that already has large inhabitants. You can also find just about any dry good you would need here.
On both occasions I’ve found the owners to be helpful (not always the absolute best advice) but all you have to do is ask. :)

After reading the mixed reviews on here, and being in the area, I wanted check this place out. Upon entering I was pretty impressed by the size of the store. Huge selection of of dry goods and tanks to the right and tons of livestock to the left. Didn’t really check out the freshwater section but all tanks were clean and well stocked. Looked like a lot of African concludes mostly. The saltwater selection was pretty good. Lots of tangs and different angel fish. I didn’t think the prices were to high at all compared to some other establishments I’ve been to.
Then I met Sean (not sure if he is the owner). He wast rude at all as previous reviews suggest. I found him very helpful and willing to show me different techniques and tips on my reef care. I told him that I’ve been having a small algae bloom and told me exactly what I needed to do. He didn’t try to make me buy a bunch of crap thst doesn’t work. One thing that I noticed was not a lot of corals but the fish selection makes up. I couldn’t leave here empty handed so I purchased a small rusty angel for $ 12. Hes been in the tank since about noon today and looks healthy so far, so we’ll see. Happy fishing folks!
