BOA on West 32nd

I wish I could give this place zero stars. The waitress did the best she could on her second night but the owner was a complete jerk to her and our large party that spent a lot of money. I would not recommend this place ever. The owner is rude, the food is mediocre.

It was okay and when I found out the meaning of BOA I rolled my eyes. None the less it was ok.

Unfortunately, I have to change my review. BOA used to be so awesome. They had great food adn such a wonderful menu with many choices. Me and my boyfriend went there a little while ago and they have completely changed their hours so forget going on a lunch hour. Also, the menu has changed in that they have cut at least half of their choices. Also, the meals used to come with a side and now they do not (well at least the few we chose).But the one thing they did not change was the prices… you still pay a top notch price for a less than top notch food selection and getting less of it. I do not know what happened, but the food just does not taste as good either which is a shame because I used to rave how excellent this place was. The venue is stil cute and their outdoor patio is still pretty but with the changes… we will be finding another place to munch.

The food was great, and the staff was fantastic! Our waitress was so much fun and she just made our night!

I am not a hater, but honestly, overpriced for mediocre food at best. I had the Bi Bim Bop, which was okay, but not authentic or anything special. They charge 3 dollars extra for brown rice with your dish! That seemed way over priced to me. I understand charging for adding meat to dishes, but if they were going to charge me for brown rice, they should have told me.
The waitress, who many people said was rude, had a bit of an attitude, but I liked that. She was pretty honest and sassy, but it didn’t bother me. The beer here is pretty cheap, so that’s a nice change from other restaurants.
The waitress also challenged some of the patrons to a chugging contest, but she didn’t even finish her drink and then started claiming how great she was and that she never loses. I mean, if you only drink half a beer, then of course you are going to win the drinking contest. I just though it was funny she thought she was so awesome at chugging, when her glass was still full.
I won’t go back, but I don’t think this place is overall horrendous. I am just peeved about the rice and how much more they charge for brown rice.

HRM! sounds like we weren’t the only ones that thought BOA’s waitress is a total delta bravo.

discourteous and aggressive! — - this chick must be either part owner, friend of the owner or have blackmail on the owner.: rushed us through our entire meal, laughed at one of our group for mispronouncing an item on the menu and messed up two of our orders. mind you the place wasn’t even half full. i don’t get it.

I love the good variety of restaurants in the «Highlands» area of Denver along 32^nd Avenue. There is an excellent selection of dining options, and «Boa» is one of the best.
As with most restaurants along this strip, Boa was transformed out of a former residence. As a result, it is small, but they do have a back patio, and they have found a way to make the seating comfortable.
The unique aspect of this restaurant is that they serve both Asian choices, (the East menu), and Western, Mexican-​style food, (the West menu), served up by two, accomplished chefs. Their menu choices are familiar favorites, but with the individual flair, and accent each chef adds from personal experience. There are many vegetarian options, (many of the East menu items can be made with tofu), as well as indulgent specialties all over this expansive menu.
Since almost everyone likes either Mexican, or Chinese, it’s a good bet that every member in your party will find something delicious to make them happy.
Boa is closed Mondays, but open Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m., to 9:00 p. m, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Sunday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and it’s Happy Hour all day on Sunday. They accept all major credit cards, but only one form of credit per table. Add a gratuity of 18% to tables over six, (we had five at our table, and they added the 18% anyway), and 20% to tables of 10 or more.

Here’s the thing:
Great location. Really interesting concept. East meets West. Eastern Asian paired with Western Mexican choices. Sounds strange, but it is good food.
The issues:
The owner (s) are often rude. I have been there several times, even bringing in large groups, spreading the word, lunching for business and there for pleasure and drinks. Never, are the staff/​owners warm or welcoming. It feels like being there is a huge inconvenience to them.
So I stopped going.
When I spend my hard earned money, I want to feel as though I am a valued customer.

We were in the area after a photo shoot and absolutely starving, and chose Boa based on a random listing of restaurants in the neighborhood. We arrived around 6:30pm to a rather empty dining room, but the place quickly got very busy as the evening went on. The food here is an interesting fusion of East Asian and West Mexican.
We shared our orders from both sides of the menu, including pan seared dumplings to start & they were good: your standard tasty dumplings n’ soy sauce. We made our dinner selections, including the Pad Thai, Cheese Enchiladas, and Sesame Shrimp. Our food took a long time to come out … as the thirty-​minute mark approached our cordial & attentive server must have sensed our food urgency and brought us some chips and salsa to munch on while we waited. The Sesame Shrimp was the winner here … tasty fried and sauced shrimp served with white rice, an egg roll, and an orange wedge. The Pad Thai was good, but not really Pad Thai, mainly because of the prominent ketchup based sauce that wrapped itself around the noodles. My friend wasn’t a fan, but I found the flavors curious and continued to munch on this interesting take on a Thai favorite.
Finally, those enchiladas … not bad but not good enough to satisfy my Mexi-​craving. They lacked flavor and were covered by a handful of greens that just seemed out of place. Partially warm and partially cold, I ate as much as I could and enjoyed the two sides it came with. one a bean and corn dish that was hearty and delish, and one with a chicken-​soup like plate with a consistency and favor that bored my mouth and my mind. Another friend ordered the steak tacos, and they looked great & he really enjoyed them. Overall an interesting meal that for around $ 75 filled up our party of three but didn’t really leave us wanting more.

Went for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. Apparently, everyone else thought that was a good idea, as well. Busy busy busy. Only one server on. Poor Erin got slammed with about a bazillion tables in the space of 20 minutes. Not only did she never lose her cool, she never lost her smile.
The food here is East (Asian) and West (Mexican) — each side of the menu represents one side. The hubby went East with a Szechuan dish and I went West with the freshest soft shell chicken tacos I’ve ever had. The prices are crazy reasonable and the food is insanely good.
We plan on becoming regulars, hopefully having Erin wait on us every time. And by the way, those people who left because they couldn’t handle a 5 minute wait totally lost out. Already planning my next visit…

This was the only place not packed to the gills during the 32^nd street fair. My friend was hungry and I really wasn’t but I can’t say no to food or drinks. We walked in and the inside was empty but the back patio had one table. We sat down and got a nice cool breeze and it was relaxing back there. We had a lovely glass of white wine and shared a few items.
We had nachos with rice. I think they could have had more cheese personally. They were interesting. Then we shared a hot dog wrapped in bacon and it was good. The three little tacos were my favorite.
The servers were friendly and it is a peaceful area. Asian or Mexican or a combo. You choose.

I have wanted to come here for a long time considering I don’t live too far away and constantly walk by and say, «we really need to try this.»
On a Saturday night, a girlfriend and I decided to check it out. We walked in at about 8:30pm or so. The restaurant was busy but not packed. We sat at a two person table near the back.
I thought this place would be more «fusiony» but it isn’t. It’s either or and I like that!
We both enjoyed our taco plates very much. There was so much food, so luckily we were both extremely hungry! I ordered the smoked refried beans and she got the green chili rice. We both got the Calabacitas which is a zucchini, corn and roasted green chili side. We were so glad we both got the zucchini mixture. It was awesome. Definitely get that, even if you order from the East side!
We promised we’d be back with our other halves so I’m excited to stop back in soon!

This is a very disappointing review for me to write. I have been to BOA extensively since it’s opening. I was even there when the back patio opened for the first time. For a long time, I couldn’t have been happier. The food is amazing and allows for me to take someone when I want Mexican and they want Asian. Up until Sunday, the service had always had been good as well.
And then. .. my friend was having a birthday party last Sunday. We had a table of 8 enjoying drinks and food. As I sat down, one of the servers gave me a glass of water. I asked her if I could get a bloody Saki (which was delicious). When she brought the drink, I asked about a salad. She replied, «I’m NOT your waitress, she is» (pointing at another girl) and stormed off. Wait, what!!! I’ve worked in the service industry and this is not how you treat your customers. Hell, this isn’t how you treat your customers in ANY industry.
Unacceptable, regardless of the food, I’ll unlikely be back.

I found this place thanks to the hot on Unilocal.The menu seemed very interesting, east-​west. I saw that they had bibimbop and I was sold. When we got there there told us it was not the sizzling one in the clay pot… Ina went for it and it was really good, I ventured to the other side of the menu and got the carnitas tacos which were very good, and you get 2 sides.
I think this place has something for everyone, unless you don’t like Asian and Spanish foods. the menu seems a bit strange at first but the fusion between the two food genres works.
Also the wait staff was very helpful and friendly.

I have to admit, I took a crack at this place with a great friend of mine and I have to say that I liked it. I was nervous at first about «Asian-​Mexican Fusion» concept, but thought it couldn’t be that bad as I had heard good things about this little place.
Little, yes, it’s a small place, but with great ambiance and very good service. One side of the menu is Asian and the other is Mexican, but you can order and mix/​mesh. I had the Mongolian dish with brown rice. It was hearty and delicious. I even asked for it spicier than usual and they accomodated me and it was very good. I was hesitant to try the Mexican dishes though, but will do so next time.
Parking on 32^nd is atrocious as usual, so good luck with that, but hey, walking from around the block to eat at this place is worth it.

Was here for brunch the other week based on the average 4 stars this place has. Was disappointed. The food was ok but nothing out of this world. Cute little place and nice back patio however…
What turned me off the most was the unfriendly, sour, and abrasive waitress.

Bland and boring. Waitstaff and «co-​owner» are not friendly. There are too many good places on 32^nd St. to waste time and money on this place. Carne asada tacos were dry and not good.
Also first time I went I got food to go and they did not put in my side.
Skip this place.

It almost seems like a contradiction in terms to say that there’s an «undiscovered gem» in Highlands Square, but Boa really is. Case in point: it was nearly empty on a Friday evening, while Trattoria Stella next door was packed to the gills. What’s up with that? Boa is awesome, people! Give them your business!
It’s awesome for kids (despite the Unilocal survey saying it’s not). Even though they don’t have a kid menu, our server was more than happy to have the kitchen make a half-​portion of the Yakisoba noodles for our little guy.
It’s awesome for people who want to dine Al Fresco. The patio is cute, cute, cute… and it’s in the back! Which means you won’t be sucking up 32^nd Ave.‘s exhaust fumes alongside your yummy dinner.
It’s awesome for people who aren’t really sure what they want to eat. It’s less «fusion» and more «choice.» The Mexican options are much fresher and sparkily-​flavored than your standard hole-​in-​the-​wall fare. I’m not sure what kind of cheese smothers those burritos, but DAY-​UM it’s good! My Korean Bibimbap was spiced with flavor (not just heat) and oh-​so-​good. My only regret was that our server «flipped» it (I guess that’s the «bim» in the Bibimbap?) before I’d actually gotten a chance to look at its pretty presentation.
It’s awesome for vegetarians. You can order ANY menu item with your choice of meat or tofu… which is great for veggies! No more being relegated to ordering simple pasta! It’s also awesome for Gluten-​Free seekers. They even offer Gluten-​Free beer!
And finally, it’s awesome for people on a budget… which is pretty much everybody. Most menu items are $ 10 or less, and drink specials vary by night. Go there. NOW.

I had my doubts, but Sis wanted to try this, and we had gotten a great recommendation from one of the local shop owners, so we showed up for an early supper. We sat in their patio area, which was quiet, except for the fountain. The waitress was great, attentive enough without rushing up, and very helpful when we wanted some explanation. I got the Taco Menang fusion meal: yellow curry tofu slightly sweet and spicy in a blue corn taco shell with shredded lettuce and tomatoes. I can’t stop thinking how amazing it was. And it came with a zucchini corn side and a vermicelli side that was more like soup.
Sis got the Chicken Menang: stir-​fried chicken and chile topping lightly cooked broccoli and carrots with coconut rice. Her appetizer was an eggroll. We both took home leftovers, but I didn’t leave any of the tacos!
They have a nice wine menu to go with the meals, and we both loved what we ordered. BTW, Sundays there is all day happy hour.

Hmmm… how shall I start writing this review.
A group of frens and I came here for dinner on Thursday evening January 22^nd 2009.
Since I am one of the early patrons of the group, the waitstaffs brought out water and several bowls of blue chips and salsa. The blue chips and salsa were good and the salsa were spicy to some.
I also ordered the Green Tea. The first time around the Green Tea comes with the Raspberry Honey that I requested. The second time around, when I ask for a refill, came only the Green Tea.
All in all the food is OK. The rest of my frens in the group liked what they ordered for the evening.
The things that I ordered that evening was:
* BOA Special Egg Roll ~ this consists of Egg Rolls which are stuffed with Chicken, Shrimp and Vegetables.
* Malaysian Satay ~ I choose Chicken. Here the chicken satay can do better. The sauce was OK, though I AM NOT WOW with it.
For the main entrée, I choose two instead. The reason why, coz I want to know the difference of the dishes that I have been eating here in Denver, Colorado and the things I used to cook at home.
* Malaysian Rendang ~ this dish I choose the Beef. I was quite concern and not impressed at all with this dish. The dish comes with the choice of rice you want and with an egg roll. I choose with Coconut Rice.
* Singapore Rice Noodles ~ this dish I like the MOST. I choose with Shrimp. It has the similar flavor that I am used to from Singapore and from home-​cooked meals. Though I cant deny, actually there arent any Singapore Rice Noodle EVER in Singapore restaurants or hawker centers or food court. Singapore Rice Noodle came about from America itself. Meaning someone create the name, arent sure from where, I mean from which State or how they name this dish Singapore Rice Noodles to begin with.
While the waitstaffs are attentive to the flow of our drinks, one of the waitstaffs mentioned that one of the owner and the chef itself comes from Malaysia. So I requested when the owner or the chef is not busy to come to our table so I could talk to him.
At the midst of my dinner, one of the owner named Braydon Wong came to meet me. We chat and introduce ourselves. Since this restaurant is new, and they are trying to figure out the American palate, so that is why they came out with the fusion of Asian and Mexican Comfort Food.
Definitely there is ROOM for improvement. I told Braydon that if he wants his business to prosper stick to what he knows the cuisine originally where he is from.
I have to wait what Hubs will say about the 2 main entrees that I brought back home for. Hubs even got the opportunity to talk to Braydon. In addition to this, Braydon happens to know several of my friends who are Malaysians living here in Colorado.
I would give them another try in the future to try out other dishes in the MENU. Perhaps from there I could experience better dishes and also try the Mexican side of menu.
Just be warned though, if you are in the neighborhood, parking space can be a nightmare in this area. So make sure you have plenty of time and patience to get a spot along the streets before coming or before your appointment.
