Superba Food + Bread

Cold brew coffee on nitro was really good. Bread was delicious.
Vanilla cream pastry was good, crisp.
Really like that they have breakfast so late.

we stopped by for early dinner/​HH with the kiddies. we weren’t able to take advantage of the nice outdoor seating due to the chill in the air. nice setup inside nonetheless. happy hour menu was not too shabby. overall menu is limited. kids menu was ok. we ordered them the spaghetti and meatballs. good sized portion. experience was just ok. obviously, with kids in tow our we had some time constraints which impeded our ability to fully explore what they do offer. we’ll come back sans childrens.

I consider myself pretty generous with the 5 star reviews, but there was nothing good I could find about this place. The hostess was very sweet, but that’s about the only positive thing I can think of.
We has plans to watch the Kings’ morning skate at TSC and to get brunch. Superba won out over the other places I was considering because a. it was close and b. hangtown fry and the toad in a hole croque madame.
We sat inside right next to the kitchen. The other reviews were correct about the relaxed service. Considering it was Tuesday lunch and the customers were more on the business casual side, there was no urgency to get you out the door and back to work. The coffee was really dark. We asked for half and half, but received milk instead. It basically turned the coffee grey. If you are not a fan of coffee and milk, you know what I’m talking about. The boyfriend’s hangtown fry was nothing like I thought it would be. The whole dish was topped with a single, whole fried oyster. The rest of the (unfried) oysters were diced and tossed with the eggs. I thought it was skimpy for the $ 16 dish.
I tried getting the croque without the ham. The server popped up a couple minutes later, to tell me that it wasn’t possible because everything was already pre-​made. This confused me a bit, but I changed my order to baked eggs in purgatory. A part of me regretted not just ordering the croque and removing the ham myself. When our plates arrived, I was disappointed by the size. A large white plate with a small cast iron baking dish and a slice of toasted bread. As our server set the plates down, I noted the jiggle of the eggs. I promptly buried my eggs in the hot shashuka, in an attempt to cook the eggs more. I suffered through the first egg. I pierced the yolk and a rush of runny white followed. I gagged silently to myself. The toast cut the roof of my mouth. I submerged the remaining pieces inside my dish and it helped soften the bread. The whites were still clumpy. I tried psyching myself into believing it was part of the burrata, but the texture was just too nasty. The second egg was just as runny and the boyfriend told me to leave the rest. I hate wasting food, but I also didn’t feel like pausing for diarrhea breaks on my birthday– we had plans for the day.
The server came by to check on us one last time and it was there that I confessed to the unappetizing, inedible eggs. To my surprise, he told me that poached eggs always come out with runny yolks. I agreed with him, but told him my whites were considerably runny as well and dragged my fork around the dish to show him. He asked if I would like a different dish. I politely declined and he returned with the item removed from our bill. I thanked him and he told me to next time clarify medium hard eggs or I can expect runny yolks again. I didn’t get into it with him because this was not an issue of preference.
Instead of detouring to the beach, I asked that I be taken home and basically had to sprint to the bathroom. Judging by the gurgling noises my stomach is currently making, I have not heard the last of Superba.

Last night we had our first visit to this new restaurant.
The menu was creative but not easily translated into words.
The waiter was fine.
We ordered some Bread for the table and it came as a big chunk with a knife in it and a bit burnt tasting.
We ordered the cauliflower and it was fair at best.
I ordered the octopus and shrimp plate and it was very bland.
My wife ordered the bread with guacamole and it was okay if you like butter mixed inside?
Very loud for a quiet dinner maybe pick another spot.
The waiter was fast but never asked us if our food was good and seemed to be waiting on the entire restaurant.
It’s a bit on the expensive side with average wine @ $ 13 per glass.

After being seated, we ordered our drinks and had to wait for all the dinosaurs to become extinct. It took even longer for the server to take our order and then the real wait began. I placed on my grass-​watching baseball cap and proceeded to watch my chia pet grow. Then after pruning a bonsai tree, we placed our orders and I thought to myself «hey, I’ve just witnessed a mass extinction event and successfully learned the ancient art of Japanese botany. Why not hunker down and watch the paint dry?» The time between ordering and getting our food was around an hour, so I had plenty of time to read «War and Peace,» which I had purchased on my Kindle, preparing for an event such as this.
Also, their choice of television network was rather peculiar. Tonight’s dining entertainment was none other than the Call of Duty championship.
Other than the insanely long wait, the food was delicious. I had one of the best burgers of my life and for that reason, I am willing to try this restaurant again. Their manager Kevin was a swell dude. He’s one of those guys that you can count on to water your plants while you’re on a vacation to Cabo. He was very professional about the situation and offered us all free desserts. Just saying, their banana cream pie is to die for.
Overall, it was a good night and it was very crowded so that could explain some of the wait time.

3.5 stars, but i would come back again and i wouldn’t be surprised if this moved up to 4.
Came here with a coworker for lunch mid week. Service was interesting – the guy didn’t write anything down about our order and overall seemed a bit lost. I got a kale salad with chicken – the salad was really tasty, the flavors went together well, but there was a tad too much dressing on it… and it came out without my chicken on it… so after i told the waiter a small plate of cut up chicken came out for me (not very appetizing). That just turned me off to the experience, but I did like the ambiance and the food was good.

Really like the freshness of the food here and all the dishes I’ve had so far have been tasty without feeling too greasy. I like that they have «breakfasty» items for lunch. I’ve had the smoked potato and mushroom hash and hangtown fry which were both good and are perfect sized portions. Definitely will be back!

I was pretty impressed by this place. Nice to know it’s around the area. Great place to grab something to eat if you’re doing shopping at The Point.
Parking is not a problem, as the lot for The Point is fairly large.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance inside. Very LA feel. They also have a fairly large outdoor seating patio with personal shade for each table. The service was good overall. Very friendly. The food didn’t come out very fast, which was fine for us since we were not in a rush. However, when requesting drink refills, I think we were forgotten about since we requested refills several times without much success. They were pretty busy however, so can’t really blame them.
As for the food, it was delicious! The croque madame was really, really good! Highly recommend this dish. We also got the pastrami sandwich special, which was good too. The dish overall had quite a bit of mustard flavor to it, since the cole slaw also had a mustard flavor. Definitely want to come back to try their dinner menu based on how good their breakfast/​lunch menu was.
Overall, delicious food at The Point! Highly recommend this place!

Impressed by the soon-​to-​shutter Snack Bar and wowed by the work on display at Food + Bread on Lincoln it was without a second thought that plans were made to visit the new Superba on South Sepulveda in El Segundo, the breezy million dollar space bathed in sunlight with all sorts of fun details including pullies, chains and levers while both the baked goods and made-​to-​order menu speak to quality craftsmanship and a team looking to do big things.
Almost thirty miles from the hotel in Burbank, an early Sunday morning circumventing any traffic even when accounting for a stop in Santa Monica, it was just before 8:30 that I entered the large corner lot of a recently opened outdoor shopping venue and as an expected guest of Chef James Trees it was at a cozy two-​top that I was seated, the restaurant manager soon stopping by to introduce himself before delivering a bold Americano as I waited for a friend.
Sporting a decidedly «So. Cal» vibe, the laid-​back nonchalance not to be mistaken as a lack of professionalism as the staff runs like a well-​oiled machine with ever present smiles, daytime diners at Superba Food + Bread are offered a broad range of Breakfast and Lunch options along with pastries delivered fresh from the in-​house bakery in Venice, the options spanning from classics to things far more intriguing, neither featuring less than the very best ingredients prepared in often unique ways.
Mostly self selecting the menu, though advice was assuredly taken into account, it was with a latte for my friend plus a foamy coldbrew for myself that the dining got started, seven pastries served on a large platter first photographed and then dissected with lamination consistently yielding the sort of textures rarely found outside of Europe, the turnover and almond croissant both reference standard while the Kouign Amann and Croissants ringed in color «turned it up to eleven» in terms of creativity, the pastry cream somehow helping to mellow the former while a lye-​bath gave the «Pretzel» its unmistakable taste around caverns of creamy hazelnut filling.
Smiles induced by a bag of delicate bombolini while the «poptart» was as close as I’ve ever seen to replicating the original texture with flavors that were far more natural and robust, it was almost as if the kitchen staff read our minds in sending out a palate cleansing salad with two slices of toast topped in Avocado purée plus pickled vegetables, a follow-​up of two savories soon to come.
Nearly filled to capacity by 9:30am, the Superba phenomenon clearly stretching South despite a demographic far more «family» than trendy Venice, it was with cranks lifting pastry cases skyward that shades were raised as music grew softer, both the «toad in a hole» Croque and coveted Hangtown Fry offering unique twists on old classics, the former finding levity in tomato infused Hollandaise and creamy raclette while the later incorporated the oyster’s liquer atop fried and smashed fingerlings to impart an oceanic flavor that went well beyond the typical chopped bivalve, smoky bacon and eggs.
Requesting a taste of the thick-​cut lardon used in the Fry and finding its layers of crisp skin and melting center as special as Pork Belly gets in an era of near ubiquity it was not long before the Chef and GM stopped by with «the best looking pancake we’ve made in a while» the top-​shelf salty butter and 100% Pure Maple Syrup applied liberally with each resultant bite hovering somewhere between a skillet flapjack and cornbread in texture, no doubt heavy but good enough that I happily finished more than my half.
With my dining partner not yet ready to throw-​in the towel, but at the same time certainly beginning to slow down, it was to wide eyes that a requested plate of French Toast was presented next and described as being cut from a custard infused loaf of «laminated scraps left over from making croissants» the two slices were precisely as rich as would be expected, the ample notes of butter still poignant under spiced walnuts and golden syrup plus a liberal dollop of crème fraiche.
Asking to peruse the dinner menu, a matter of curiosity as all three Superbas seem to garner more attention for meals served earlier in the day, the GM almost could not help but show off when asked about the dessert concepts, a «Hazelnut Macchiato» forgivingly light with crisp cookies sandwiching a creamy hazelnut pudding topped with espresso tinged cream, chocolate tuille, and whole sugared nuts.

The food and menu are better at the Venice location. Here, the menu is pretty limited and there’re aren’t any rock star dishes, for lunch or for dinner. Don’t get me wrong, the food is not bad, it’s just memorable or as good as the food in the Venice location. For lunch I had the quinoa bowl and avocado toast. Although I ordered an egg and avocado for the quinoa to go and got neither of those when I opened it. For dinner we had the salmon, beef stew and the chicken. Chicken plate was good. Salmon was served with lentils and ok. Beef stew was rich and hearty. Again, it’s okay, just nothing super memorable. Not sure I’d go again. True Food is super good, and so if I’m going to this place, I’ll always choose there over Superba.

Disclaimer: Part of me almost wanted to hate this place so I could title my review «Who Dropped the D? (SuperBad)». But it was damn good… So… Here is my positive review.
One of the best Mojitos I have ever had. Excellent. The fries are good and the Fried Chicken sandwich was pretty good. Would I say it’s the best I have ever had? Not quiet, little over breaded for my taste. But one of the best, certainly.
Terrific service, Fair pricing– I’ll be back to try more.

We went during dinner. My understanding is their menu changes from time to time according to seasons and what ingredients are available and fresh. They have the organic, grass fed, quality ingredient concept, all of which I’m not mad about.
We got the burger and the carbonara. Both of them were EHHh. If you’re going to use good ingredients, why not try making the dish taste good too? The fries were way too salty for my taste. I literally was trying to shake the salt off them. Carbonara portion was extremely small and the thought of ENGG?! came into my mind when I saw it.
Our waiter was trying hard but he just had no clue. We asked if the carbonara had any meat, and he said he needed to go ask someone in the kitchen…
We were not impressed and will not be going back especially for the price. Would much rather go to Hopdoddy or North Italia at The Point.

My boyfriend & I went here on a whim and it was spectacular! Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.
The menu is «modern American.» For example, we had avocado toast to start which was the best! For dinner I had the carbonara and my boyfriend had the beef stew. Both were delicious!
I had an «abuelita» to drink and I definitely recommend that!
For dessert we shared the smores «cake»
Since then we have come back just for coffee and dessert and I tried the key lime cake while my boyfriend went for the smores again.
You will love this place and want to come back again and again!

Now, onto the food and coffee!!! I can’t say I am fond of the coffee here. Unless you desperately need some caffeine, opt for water or lemonade instead. What I do highly recommend are the croissants – reminiscent of a less buttery version of Tartine’s croissants – avocado tartine, and the pistachio butter & jam toast. Simple dishes that have me hooked! The cream, savory avocado and pickled radishes with some fresh cilantro are just the right combination when you lose appetite.
It’s difficult to find some good pistachio butter, and Superba impressed me with theirs. I wish I could buy a tub full.
Overall, Superba seems to be more specialized in bread and pastries. Given my preference for such, I would return here on another weekend.

Just like the one on Lincoln except with LOTS more parking, also features gorgeous indoor/​outdoor seating with a small but tasty menu. Also with pastries on display for you to choose from at the front. The service was great (we had in-​laws and a 2 year old, so we were kinda demanding) and friendly.
Just a great place to lounge and grab a bite. I love that there are lots of option at the POINT, so in case one place is packed, you really have a lot of great choices within walking distance.

I’ve been wanting to try Superba for a while now and finally got a chance to check it out. Talk about delicious!!! Located in the spanking new plaza called The Point in El Segundo, Superba is a great brunch/​lunch spot. I wonder what it’s like for dinner… There’s plenty of parking in the lot and the servers are really helpful and friendly. The outdoor patio is perfect for a sunny morning meal.
I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($ 14) and it was heavenly. I was kind of scared the chicken would be dry and I would have to pack on some tapatio but contrary to my initial belief, the chicken was sooo juicy! The Italian roll that it came on was super soft and paired perfectly with the rest of the sandwich. The fries had a little garlic to them which made them nice and tasty. A perfect option on the menu if you’re in the mood for a mouthwatering sandwich. I also got a little cappuccino ($ 4) and it was a good size. Nice, smooth flavor with a little heart design.
Food here is a tad on the pricier side of things but it’s worth it. It’s delicious! I’d definitely recommend Superba.

It’s no secret that I simply love The Point in El Segundo and when I first spotted Superba Food and Bread under construction a couple months ago, I had a feeling of great excitement and anticipation. I wasn’t quite sure at the time what Superba was at the time. Was it a bakery or a restaurant or some sort of open community space? After some research, I found out that Superba is all of the above: part bakery, part café and part urban park.
I simply could not wait for it to open up.
Three weeks ago Superba finally opened up. It’s located at the corner of The Point right across from shop house.
Walking in I instantly liked the feel of the place. They’ve got a lovely open kitchen where you can see them hustling and bustling preparing delicious food. They have fresh baked goods right by the bar. One wall is aligned with Venice beach art while another has wine bottles. I learned from my waiter that very first location is in Venice and hence they have a Venice feel. Their ceiling is high and open and uniquely shows the plywood.
I came during lunch and they presented to me a menu split between «breakfasty» and «lunchy.» They’ve basically offer brunch until 3pm. A lot of the breakfast items looked tasty but I was sold on what I learned to be their most popular item in the «lunchy» section, their «Fried chicken sandwich.»
The fried chicken sandwich consists of charred jalapeño aioli, cabbage slaw, fried chicken all on pain au lait bun. Accompanying it is their fries that are sprinkled with rice wine vinegar, chili flakes and parsley.
My waiter warned me that the fried chicken sandwich is a little bit spicy and indeed it was but I liked it because the heat brought out the taste of the chicken even more. It was fried but not greasy and I loved the overall crispness! The real winner though of the sandwich was the bread. That pain au lait bun is amazing. Crispy edges, buttery top, that bread was perfection. The fries were good as well and loved all the toppings especially the chili flakes and parsley.
I really enjoyed my lunch at Superba and am already looking forward to my next trip here. Once again, another place at The Point that is on point!

Il Fornaio, La Brea Bakery, Marie Callenders, and now Superba Food + Bread. I have to say that superba Food + Bread isn’t doing anything new by having a bakery with a restaurant, but just by my experience they have done a good job so far.
Walking up to Superba Food + Bread, you notice a large patio and large garage style windows so it is possible to eat al fresco inside. This would be a good place to visit on a sunny warm day and when there are balmy Summer nights.
Superb Food + Bread is open for Breakfast at 8 AM which is sorta late for all the people that work around there, but perfect for the Manhattan Beach Mommies getting out of their spinning classes or yoga.
I went here for «Lunchy» and actually got the Superba fried chicken sandwich on a Pain au lait bun which is like an egg bun but made with milk instead of water. This is a spicy sandwich that has a nice slaw to counter balance the spiciness. The chicken portion was a little small, but the french fry portion was enough for two people.
While I was waiting for my to go order the bartender offered me a fresh ginger beer, which they make there. It was perfect and hit the spot. It may be a little strong for some people but it isn’t too sweet, and would probably go great with some spiced rum.
The hostess was en point too and did a good job of getting me into the joint. Service gets 4.5 stars and food gets 4. Looking forward to eating breakfast there.

Nice that The South Bay is getting its own offspring of this Venice staple. While there’s a Mendocino Farms 70 yards away, Superba delivers a bit more sinful fare, thanks to the excellent baked goods. Couldn’t resist the croissant (and you shouldn’t either). The pumpkin «pop tart» was no slouch, either.
We had the baby kale and the EPIC avocado tartine. Salad very good, but the avo toast was wonderful – beautifully prepared and seasoned, and on their yummy bread.
Another tasty reason to visit The Point on Sepulveda!

Superba is opening a second location in LA Their first café is on Lincoln. This location is in the new premium mall, The Point.
This café is modern and hip. Think industrial pipes in the ceiling. Plates look like they are handmade and intentionally minimalistic, multicolored and uneven. Like plates for hipsters. Dining room lines are clean. Staff provide great customer service. A good place for a weekend brunch with a date or for a weekday lunch with the boss.
Omg, the pasties are large, plump and beautiful! Billing comes to $ 4 – 6 per pastry. A staff member suggested we go with the Reuben, his favorite. This is a VERY large savory pastry that is served at room temperature. The exterior is a crispy rye croissant and the interior a thick piece of good old pastrami. Beware that the very center is a HUGE dollop of seedy mustard with entire mustard seeds. I like to eat things from the outside in and the last bites had me in tears… The apple strudel looked scrumptious as well. I’ll have to try that next timer.
I tried to order a decaf mocha. Unfortunately, they do not serve decaf espressos; they do have decaf teas. Since I wanted coffee, a staff member offered to make me a single shot mocha espresso. I appreciated the recommendation but really would have enjoyed some sort of decaf coffee beverage. Hopefully these will be offered in the future?
