Not the best record store ever but most definitely the best record store in Eugene. Really good selection and I appreciate that if you need help the staff is helpful but they also will leave you alone to peruse the selection. I think they understand that music is a personal thing. I love that they truly seem to carry a wide genre of music as well.

Always loved House Of Records. My family and I hit up their selection often. I wouldn’t recommend buying new records from this location, however. Purchased a brand new 33 that was warped, significantly, directly out of packaging. Upon bringing it back, I was told «records tend to warp». Surely, but selling a warped record as brand new? Kinda shady! The manager proceeded to offer me a dollar off my next purchase…
I’ll be taking my business to Skip’s for new records, as I’ve only heard good things about their selection and service. I may, on occasion, drop a couple bucks here — but not nearly as much as I’ve spent in the past.

Huge selection of new and used cds and records. Very well organized by genres! The rows were big enough to maneuver around with other people.

It’s funny when I hear people say that record stores have all died because it is so not the case and a place like House of Records is clear proof. If anything, they seem busier than ever when I stop in, which is great to see.
If you are looking for a good selection of new and used vinyl (and CDs and cassettes), friendly and helpful staff, good prices and just a cool environment with lots of history, the House of Records cannot be beat. The quality of the vinyl is also top-​notch. They must be really picky when they buy LPs because the ones I find here are super clean. They don’t have sales but it is because their regular prices are lower than other record shops in town. Plus, they have a frequent buyer program which makes it even more affordable if you buy lots of records.
I am a metal guy and, frankly, their metal selection is probably their weakest point but I still manage to find cool stuff here on a fairly regular basis. And for all my non-​metal needs, it is just awesome. Rock, jazz, soundtracks, new age, disco… pretty much anything you want. Good location and free parking in the back. I have been shopping here since the early 80s and, if anything, it is even better now than back then.

Was super excited to stop-​by House of Records for the very first time. What a dangerous place for your pocket book. They are a small record store but the selection was very impressive and I had to force myself to make some hard choices when I couldn’t buy everything that I found. They have a deep stock of new vinyl but are light on used stuff, and the new albums range from $ 16-​$ 24 each, so you can really make a dent on your wallet if you are not careful. I also stopped by Skip’s Records & CD World and found a much larger used record selection. It would be nice to have a listen station. Will make this a regular stop when I am back in Eugene.

Great selection of cassettes and vinyl. Tons of punk and metal to sift through. Sometimes it’s all modern reissues and then sometimes it’s all OG material. You’ll never know what you’ll find here, but you’ll all leave with something!

This place is awesome. It is a gem of an establishment and offers a great selection of music. They have a great used selection and the right ratio of mainstream to weird music. My roommate and I were music minors in college and we would come in here and browse all the time for 30 mins to an hour. They have a good blues and R&B selection, good electronic selection, extensive hip hop and even some interesting stuff like obscure field recordings from the 80s.

To all musicians, singers, songwriters, or just general lovers of music, I urge you to check out House of Records.
It’s a super cute lapis blue house that’s been converted into a store that houses a countless variety of vinyl records, CD’s and cassettes, songbooks, and more!
Though their selection is extensive, there is more of an emphasis on classic and underground music rather music you would likely find on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
Prepare yourself, for you could easily spend hours wandering around this record store borwsing the shleves! I really admired how well organized everything was depite being packed with merchandise. The employees here are also very knowledgable and friendly and will gladly assist you if you’re looking for helpful suggestions or want to locate a specific item.
Also, for those of you who spend $ 100 or more, House of Records offers a $ 10 discount from your purchase, dope!
At the cashiers counter is a designated area that showcases upcoming musical acts and performances in Eugene, which is great if you’re looking to catch a concert. Tickets are usually also available for purchase at the counter.
Whether you’re in the mood to cop a classic or just looking for a way to experience some local Eugene culture, House of Records is a must! I look forward to coming back soon!

While I’ve never been to the store in Eugene, I just received a copy of Promise Ring’s 30 Degrees Everywhere that I purchased from them on Amazon. Seriously, one of my favorite albums ever. So happy to find one of the few pressings out there. Thanks!

I came across House of Records while wandering around my best friend’s neighborhood. If you’re a musician and you see a cute bright blue house that sells vinyl, you’re going inside. I was pleasantly surprised to discover their varied selection, especially for an independent retailer in Eugene. They cater less to Top 40 and more to classics and underground favorites. In addition to vinyl, they also have plenty of CDs and cassettes in a range of genres, everything from EDM to punk to reggae. You could spend hours sifting through all their merchandise. I should have but I took pity on my friends and kept my exploring time frame much milder than I would have if I was alone.
Maybe hardly anyone in Eugene listens to timeless soul and R&B records because I came across plenty of favorites like Anita Baker, Isley Brothers, Minnie Riperton, Ike & Tina, Patti Labelle, Wilson Pickett, Chaka Khan, Sam Cooke, Aretha, and more for ridiculously cheap prices. I was also excited about their country selection as they stocked everything from Dolly to the Rhinestone Cowboy himself. They even had a Metallica record I hadn’t seen in person before and a Motorhead one that I completely regret not buying. The humble section of jazz had some gems too. I picked up an amazing record of Ella Fitzgerald performing covers of Gershwin. It seemed like a lot of the alternative and indie rock records were priced higher. I guess the demand is higher in this neck of the woods.
I have to give them props for keeping the place so tidy but the vintage, dusty record smell is still intact. Based on my experience, the staff keep to themselves for the most part but the guy who rang me up the last time I went there was really nice. They have a pretty interesting in-​store playlist. You’ll just have to go there and hear it to know what I mean.
If you’re in the area, come by and support House of Records. Call me old fashioned but nothing is ever going to replace the feeling of holding your music in your hands, reading the liner notes, admiring the artwork, and popping a record into the player.

House of Records is a very good music store. Good selection and prices on new and used material and, importantly, is very well organized.
This is not just a solid record/​cd shop for Eugene but would be fantastic in any city. I grew up in Los Angeles and spent many days hunting for records in some of the very best record stores (big and small). House of Records stacks up. Several other great local places in the neighborhood as well.

Record heaven, man. This is one of my first stops every time I come down to Eugene and I always raid their punk section for a couple good selections. They’ve got so much to choose from that you could spend hours getting lost in there trying to find a rare vinyl that’s difficult to find anywhere else.
They play some weird music in there though… every time I go in it’s something more bizarre than the last. Guess that’s all part of the fun.

Honestly — one of the best indie record shops I’ve ever been to — great selection, hard to find items, at good prices too!

Easily the best place to buy records in Eugene. I’ve only been in here a few times but looking through the shelves I have seen a lot of great finds, and I remind myself to come back and purchase. If I could I would drop hundreds of dollars in this place weekly.
Friendly, helpful staff will order things for you if possible. Prices are very reasonable and the selection of new, just released vinyl is really good.

There are few truly independent record stores left. For that reason alone, House of Records and its brethren deserve five stars for keeping a vital and endangered tradition alive. But while I love its location and spirit, I would be less than honest if I didn’t confess to a bit of disappointment with the depth of the catalog represented in the bins.
Perhaps I came on a bad day. Or maybe it’s been hit by the widespread industry malaise that you can’t stock what customers won’t buy. But whereas in years past you could troll the aisles for obscure titles and imports unavailable elsewhere, the limited new discs could be had in other retailers and the used inventory left much to be desired. (NOTE: If you have the cash, they have some mighty box sets!)
The store’s true strength lies in vinyl and the knowledge of the staff. Anything can be ordered online these days. But where can you go to actually talk music? I used to work at Tower Records and Wherehouse when what you knew mattered. Trips to Moby Disc, Pooh Bahs and Penny Lane were voyages of discovery. You would go with whatever dough you could scrounge up and spend it on the most interesting titles you could find. A bit treasure hunt, a bit wild goose chase, the joy was in the pursuit. That’s how I found the Verve and Snow Patrol. That’s even how I found my wife — she was the girl responsible for spinning U2, my favorite band.
Our pasts are woven through music. For those of a certain age, the days of independent music and bookstores shine with the lore of Camelot. Though far from perfect, they represented a time and space when our arts felt less like industries and more like forms of rebellious expression.
House of Records still stands from that time and place. You can feel the presence of a bygone era in the walls and in the rafters. But like in my revue of Rasputin Records in San Francisco, what I’m left with is a bittersweet symphony of nostalgia for what was once and now is lost.
I won’t go all curmudgeon and bemoan the fact that time moves on. I’m grateful for what is and hopeful that the internet and other means and methods will spawn a new tradition with tomorrow’s great artists. But for now we’re caught in the spaces in between.
