Beautiful summer night to sit on the balcony and enjoy a great meal. The service is friendly and the food is very good.

Where do I begin? I am a huge fan of Mexican food. Well, I was before I moved to San Diego 4 years ago. I know, I sound snooty and elitist, but I grew up in Los Angeles and was exposed to some amazing Mexican food for the majority of my life. All that said, my recent relocation to Fallbrook lead me to El Meson De Mi Tierra. There are several Mexican restaurants here, but I was seriously just drawn to this place when I drove up Main Ave the first time i rolled into tow. After all the unpacking and cleaning of the new home, there was finally time to give the place a go. We walked into the front door and were greeted by two lovely, smiling faces. Our intentions were to eat there and were completely satisfied with the front seating area. What we did not know was there there was an entire dining area complete with a balcony that overlooks Main. What is even better, for a foodie like me, is, to get to the upstairs dining are, you get to walk through the kitchen and it was not some stiff collar, look at my big chef hat, would you like caviar with that sir, kind of kitchen. It was clean, warm, inviting and filled with family members and amazing aromas. It looked like a commercial kitchen with all the stainless steel, but it fell like my neighbor’s home. Up the stairs and we were in the dining room filled with circular tables covered in table clothes of various colors, gray carpet that could benefit from a steam cleaning and a menu that didn’t quite read the way in which it was folded and I loved everything about it. It was comfortable, relaxing. The type of place you know you will be welcome to spend hours at enjoying the fruits of their labor. All this excitement and we had not even ordered yet. It is said, one can judge the quality of an Italian restaurant by the quality of the bread it puts on the table. I would venture to say the same goes for the chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. I generally do not partake of the chips and salsa as it is ALWAYS the same. Crappy thick chips loaded with grease and a boring, brick colored, over seasoned, completely gringo spicy cup of slop. Today, this was not the case. I could not put down the chips and literally drank the rest of the salsa at the end of our meal. It was that good! not a salsa roja, not a salsa verde, but something completely new for me. I want them to bottle it and send me home with it. So, at that point, we are super excited because we just ordered and if such a basic offering was done this well, the food on the way was sure not to disappoint. The lady ordered one of each, Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Pollo street tacos. I got the Taco Grande on the hand-made tortilla with carne aside and a Sope. The look of satisfaction on my girlfriend’s face made me a little envious street tacos, but they definitely can’t make her laugh like I can. My taco grande was perfect. The highlight of my day? The Sope. If there is anything more elusive than the Loch Ness Monster and Sasquatch it is a great Sope. For those of you who have not tried or heard of this Mexican miscreant, it is a masa-based«puck» usually topped with beans, meat, lettuce and a variety of other accompaniments. Normally, this«puck» is pretty much that. A corn flavored hockey puck with stuff on top. Not here. El Meson unlocked the key to the perfect Sope. It was hearty yet flaky and full of flavor with a texture a pastry chef might create. The best so I have ever had the pleasure of eating. We washed down this meal with a Piña Jarritos and some of the best homemade Horchata and Jamaica. To add to the family feeling our server was the owner’s daughter. Then we were greeted by owner Eli himself(sorry if I am spelling your name incorrectly) who expressed his love for this town and his passion for making great food with a level of enthusiasm similar to what you would find walking into mom’s house after being away for a long time. He insisted we exit through the kitchen as well so we could meet his wife, the magic hands behind the perfect salsa. If bread makes or breaks the Italian restaurant or chips and salsa speaks to the quality of a Mexican restaurant, then El Meson De Mi Tierra speaks volumes for the culinary community of Fallbrook.

First of all, the owner is extremely nice and energetic. It really put you in a good mood. You get free chips and salsa. Salsa was so good we finished it and asked for more. We ordered the Ceviche which was amazing. Carne Asada fries were not so great… And the horchata was home made and tasted great. I would come back !

Excellent food; we have traveled all over Latin American and have eaten in all kinds of family owned establishments. The heart and soul in the food here is by far some of the best we have had. Growing up native Southern Californian, it has amazed me how hard it is to find real Mexican food. This is our new place for Mexican comfort food. It was fantastic. Down home, no frills where you know the food is the star.

El Meson So sad as I was very excited to go here for some time. I was told by the owner that the chile relleno was the best. He(the owner) very friendly from LA and into real estate told me this restaurant was for his wife(also very friendly) I ordered the chile relleno as per everyone recommendation. VERYSPECIFIC — no sour cream, not once but three time confirmed and why must some put sour cream on a chile relleno another question? We are vegetarian and I ordered two veggie tacos for my daughter @ $ 1.99 each and my chile relleno was $ 8.99 for one with rice and beans (which I do not think were vegetarian friendly either) and I was specific about ordering FLOURTORTILLAS (my friend the best they are fresh) We went upstairs to wait for the food — We were served water and waited ‚ Eventually the food was brought up and for sure there was sour cream all over the chile relleno … and corn tortillas. I walked downstairs to ask what had happened the owners wife admitted that I was super specific about NOSOUR cream — with some hesitation the order went to the kitchen for another — I asked for a plate to slide the sour cream chile relleno on. My daughter decided to have the corn tortillas so I said nothing I was already upset. The guacamole was lose liquid for sure more than avocados I suspect again possibly sour crème ? Being in FALLBROOK we expect good fresh guacamole not a loose concoction … The second chile relleno arrived —(the first looked better) The inside was cold — cheese not melted and the skin of the pepper cold I guess this is what happens when you say you do not like the food … Disgusted I ate my food(I had been fasting for a blood test and starved) Eventually the owner came upstairs to fetch the original chile relleno back. Did he want to see if I ate it? it had been some time Overall ALL the food was not up to the Family Fallbrook Restaurant Standards this was on the B scale with the likes of Robertinos, average fast food Mexican. nothing special — yellow rice and beans were just OK Not wanting to complain further as I was upset lang ago I paid the check of which I was somehow overcharged for also… Not a problem, the food and service warranted no tip and this review… Unfortunately I do to really care how nice the owners were The food sucked, was overpriced for what we received and this place is NOT for vegetarians … Being successful in one career or business does not mean you will succeed in food … Bewildered with all the positive reviews ===

My boyfriend and I were searching for a Mexican place to eat and found El Meson on Unilocal. The restaurant had two floors, the bottom is more like a take out but the top is a dine-in area. We ordered carne asada mini tacos and green chicken enchiladas. THEFOODWASAMAZING. The tacos, according to my boyfriend, were incredible. He was very impressed with the chip and the taco salsa which is always a big factor in his ratings because he is picky with his salsas; but these two he absolutely loved. I loved the green enchiladas which is rare because usually other restaurants only have red and most places that I’ve tried them they taste like ketchup, these however tasted exactly how my mom and grandmother make them. What made our experience even better was the owner. He told us a little history about the restaurant and that his wife is the main cook. He was very kind and honestly he’s one of the reasons we look forward to going back very soon. Since my boyfriend lives on base, he told us that if he ever wanted food from here for lunch, he can call ahead and have it ready so he can pick it up without getting off the car. The owner will personally walk it to his car since he knows Marines aren’t allowed off base in uniform. The owner says he’s been doing this for other Marines and says that it’s a success. Definitely will be coming back! We loved it!

Had a great lunch here. This is an authentic Mexican joint. Small and cozy with no thrills. This place is simply about great food. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. The inside has a few table, very small. You really feel like you are eating in Mexico, in a good way. Like I said this place is authentic. The price are very good also.

Fresh, homemade tortillas in all the meals. Perfect heat in the salsa — with plenty of great flavor. The patio was an awesome place to take in a perfect Fallbrook afternoon. And the owner, his wife, and the rest of the family took care of us like we were long lost relatives! All I can add is what most others have said — this is just the best in food, atmosphere, and value. Can’t wait to come back soon!

Completely amazing beef stew. The meat was tender and was in small chunks that were fork tender. The stew came with carrots and potatoes and a nice clear deep beefy broth. the stew was also served with Mexican rice and a side of two warm hand made corn tortillas. The restaurant attracts a loyal crowd and has a smaller seating area in the front of the restaurant followed by a larger upstairs dining room that can accommodate families. I was also served some complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was very spicy and satisfying. If you are visiting Fallbrook you must visit this amazing restaurant serving authentic Mexican food.

My family and I found this restaurant in Fallbrook. They had just closed. Owners were nice enough to allow us to place a to-go order. Food was delicious and fresh. The owners were also very nice and hospitable. They talked to us and gave us free chips and salsa while we were waiting. I wish we could have eaten at the restaurant. Next time!

Had a quick lunch there with the wife today and it’s very good food! First, chips and salsa were served. Salsa appears to be homemade and was delicious! Chips were fresh and crunchy, just the way they ought to be. I had the three mini-tacos. Contents of the tacos were tasty. Came in mini tortillas. I’ve had better tortillas. Secret: ask for the handmade corn tortillas. They looked so much tastier! Also drank a glass of homemade Horchata. Very good! Wife had three rolled tacos. She thought they were average. She really wants to try some of their soups. We’ll be back next time!
