Not fancy, but always tasty — and REALLY cheap. My partner hates Japanese food, but even he concedes it’s good and reasonable — and I eat there every time he’s out of town.

Whenever I’m craving sushi and am too lazy to go to the city, I order takeout/pickup from UMI sushi! They have a really great lunch menu 7 days a week from around the time they open(11) till 4pm. I normally order their beef teriyaki bento box that comes with 3 pieces of shumai, chicken teriyaki, a California roll, rice and your choice of soup or salad. The bento box is pretty big and costs around $ 8-$ 9 which is pretty good considering the amount of food they give you. They have really good rolls too, though they don’t give you a lot of rice which I don’t really mind. Good food, good price, what’s not to love?

Great food and never crowded. Definitely on the less expensive side for a sushi place which is a plus! Staff is great as well.

I love this spot. It’s easy, fresh and affordable. Simple décor, but nice atmosphere. Variety of apps, bentos, dinners, sushi and dessert. Always have a great meal! It’s a nice place to relax and unwind in a quiet environment. Service is attentive, but not annoying and pushy. Come by!

Ordered online. Food was never delivered. Did not understand proper English. I will never order again.

Went here on a whim with my friend the other night. The place was very small, which surprised me because I don’t know how they don’t get busy with their prices. The sushi is decent but the prices are pretty cheap compared to what most places charge for sushi. There is also a very decent selection as well.

Living so close by — I’m sad to report that last night was my first go round with Sushi Umi, I’m further saddened to report it was an experience worth deleting from my memory banks. No where else can I recall the overall mood, F & B or other, so stagnantly depressing and downtrodden. Not a single picture on the wall, a flower in a vase, not a single smile – just Debbie and Donnie Downer,(sushi chef and server respectfully) positive energy never had a moment here, it was like the restaurant had just lost its best friend. My Ashai beer was delivered warm along with a plain Miso Soup missing the traditional tofu and seaweed, along with an oddly undersized hot Saki. Three minutes later our appetizer was harshly delivered atop a chipped plate, as we were still trying to enjoy our soup, our drinks and our conversation after a long week. Our appetizer was fully incorrect and without much concern in and out of the kitchen she came to deliver the Sushi for Two a few minutes later, again on a chipped plate. No staggering of courses, I fear she had no idea what that means — we were the only patrons inside, I’d think that staggering, seemingly would become intuitive. The serving plates were about as cheap as can be possibly purchased, a quick wipe down for the in tact, and proper disposal for the broken ones for Petes sake. Its not Lalique! Getting back to our appetizer, we definitely ordered Rolls, we were corrected that we did not. Glad to have someone correct my order for me, I must have been mistaken, but I wasn’t. Trying to in site some humor into the depressive server, i tried a few kind complimentary words, but the efforts were all for not. Nothing could snap Umi out of its perpetually sliding lack of human interaction, hence a complete zero stars for lack professionalism and general tact. The Sushi Platter couldn’t have been more boring to taste, everything tasted the same if not for the soy sauce and a pea sized piece of Wasabi. I wouldn’t have degraded my poor cameras lense to take a photo of the opaqueness of each slimy sliver of old fish. No «thank you» upon paying my bill, gosh, i did think they may have eaked out a single slice of pleasantries or appreciation. To all potential diners: For a mere $ 62.00, not including tip, you too can partake in this horrific dining experience. Horribleness!

Don’t bother ordering unless you’re ok with getting it 2 hours later. ***updated*** Ok 2 stars. The delivery man is the only person that understands good customer service. He apologized even though it’s likely not even his fault. 2 stars bc the delivery man it’s the real brains behind customer service. Ordered my sushi at 8:00pm. Just 3 rolls. It’s 9:30pm and the order still didn’t even come. No phone calls about delays. Nothing. The lady says«it’s on it’s way. It’s busy» that’s no reason. I would’ve been less upset if she had a better reason. My gripe is that grubhub pre-tips them so even if they’re late, they still get a tip that they do not deserve. An hour an half to rolls sushi, really? I’m an amateur at cooking but even I could’ve cooked the rice and rolled it up faster. I can’t say much about the food bc even if it’s good, which I doubt – the service sucks.

Delivery/Take Out review. Fast, Fresh and consistent. I have been ordering delivery her for the past 4 years as I live pretty close. Rolls are good, sometimes small but good. Other food is done well also(teriyaki, katsu, gyoza, tempura and udon soup.) If you want fresh sushi delivered at reasonable price, plus want some hot cooked plates this is your place. Forest Hills and Rego Park residents, don’t hesitate to order up.

Sushi and roll are very affordable, that’s a plus. Don’t ever order salad from this place. I promise I’m not exaggerating, I got frozen lettuce. Hey, it may not be iceberg lettuce but they will give you iced lettuce for sure. Rolls and sushis are okay. Mixed seafood soup tasted a little bland. Only reason I would consider going back is price.

Delivery review The rolls aren’t very big and they don’t put in as much dish as other places. However, for their lunch special, it’s a pretty good deal. I tried their spicy tuna, spicy salmon, yellowtail, Philadelphia, and tuna roll. All pretty decent and they delivered within a reasonable time.

I love this place. Their sushi is so cheap and their lunch bento box is only $ 8. They include a lot in the lunch bento box too. The quality is food and fish seems fresh.

I’ve only gotten take out from here(via Seamless). Love this place — food is good, delivery is super quick and we are never disappointed. They are also very generous with the soy sauce, wasabi, ginger, etc. This is our new order-from sushi spot!

Great sushi spot. Offers a wide range of sushi and cooked food if you taking someone that’s not into sushi. The food and service is great. I visit this place frequently. My favorite is the rainbow roll and mussels.

DOLLAR sushi… what more do you need to know… its a good place. Might not be the best, but I know this the best is not worth three times the price. Online ordering is awesome!!!

I have to say this is my favorite japanese place to visit in Forest Hills. They do have odd hours on the weekdays(they close semi early so be mindful of that). Whenever I go, I am usually the only one there. The staff is friendly but always seems calm, and casual(not too on top of you). The fish is very fresh and delicious! The prices are also affordable(would rather go here than the japanese place in Atlas or Austin street anyday!)

It’s sushi. Not good. Not terrible. Their breading is good on the crunch rolls and tempura. It was a pre-dinner meal. That in-between I’m hungry now but I still have a couple of hours until real dinner so it did what it was supposed to do. Not exactly a place to travel to. Would I return? If I’m hungry again mid-errands and I couldn’t think of anything else — maybe.

Mediocre. At best. Mixed and matched 12 pieces of sashimi to get a sampling of the freshness of the fish. The octopus was very tasty, but the surf clam and the tuna both lacked the flavor you would come to expect from fresh sushi. Also ordered the appetizer of spicy tuna tartar with avocado. There was a disproportionate amount of tuna(barely any) to avocado(nearly an entire medium one). The inclusion of seaweed salad made me scratch my head as well. The entire salad was drenched in spicy mayo. I was unable to taste anything else. Unless something changes, I will be spending my middle village sushi dollar elsewhere.

Stopped by here on our way to Trader Joe’s for a quick bite to eat. Since it was during lunch, we took advantage of their 3 rolls lunch special. I had the usual spicy tuna, yellowtail w/scallion and shrimp tempura. The spicy tuna had some crunch flakes but it was a bit too much. I suppose they did this to lessen the amount of spicy tuna in their rolls. The yellowtail w/scallion and shrimp tempura was alright for a budget sushi place but nothing out of this world. Overall, i’d be back again for another quick bite if I am on Metropolitan Avenue.
