So here’s the trick with JK. The movers themselves were very good. They were punctual, the staff was friendly, no issues there. When they quote you a price, it’s based on an hourly rate, and begins when they arrive (which again, was on-​time). They arrive and ask you to purchase additional damage insurance (being told that the standard coverage is for 60 cents/​pound) or to sign a form that you don’t want to purchase the extra coverage. Now, there’s a LOT of fine print on the back of the document, which contains a lot more information if you want to pay the movers to sit there while you read everything on it. I didn’t want to do that, as I knew time was critical. The movers did a pretty nice job, worked very efficiently until they broke a leg of my china cabinet. I knew it would only need repair, so I wasn’t worried, until the claims department advised me of two things that hadn’t been previously disclosed. 1) There’s a $ 50 maximum per item, and a $ 100 deductible that applies (which seems ridiculous, sort of an excuse for them to break any one item of their choosing with no repurcussions at all). So, that leaves me footing the bill to pay for the furniture repair. Given that I chose to go with a professional moving company and pay the cost for same to have some peace of mind that they a) wouldn’t break things, and b) would step up if they did, I think for the next move (which will happen soon) I will consider just finding day laborers and paying much less. Whatever they break will almost certainly be less than my total payment to JK. I certainly will never use them again.

Overall ok, but you need to be on top of them checking what they do. We had a big job, and they packed up in one day and moved AND unpacked in one day, and it was right before a big holiday, so I think they were rushing to finish. The packers put many of the books in large boxes rather than in book boxes, which made it very hard to move the boxes around at unpacking time. Also, the packers often put random stuff from 3 different floors and rooms into one box, also making it hard to unpack. However, nothing fragile was broken, so that counts for a lot. The movers did an enormous amount of work in one day. Unfortunately, they ripped apart the futon and then made it look like it was put back together with the pins when all the pins were broken. Had one of our children sat on it they could have amputated a limb. Very disappointing. No reason not to tell us the truth.

Our JK moving crew went to great lengths to hide a small table they destroyed so we would not discover the damage until they were gone. Our packing crew wrapped my Mac in just two pieces of paper and packed it in a carton with other poorly packed electronics, all topped with several heavy files. Other JK missteps left us no choice but to destroy a piece of furniture the move-​out crew said would fit down stairs, but could not. Overall, we were surprised and disappointed with the low level of care, competence and trustworthiness of our JK crews, and in the company’s lack of accountability and professional responsibility — especially in light of JK’s claim that «we take good care of what matters most» and «our crew makes every effort to have your move go as problem free as possible.» Not.

Terrible!!! We used this company and the salesperson was dishonest, the upper level manager was rude and the packing job was horrible.
We were over– charged for half filled boxes, clothing and bedding crumbled up in boxes, family keepsakes broken.
Worse move ever!

TL;DR: If you want a moving company that will deliver your stuff later than promised and try to gouge you for 25 percent more than their estimate, all while being consistently unresponsive to questions, JK Moving is a great choice.
JK came to our (small) apartment, looked at everything we own, and estimated the weight of our possessions at 4,400 pounds.
Between that estimate and our move date, we got rid of about 500 pounds of possessions — several hundred books, a coffee table, an end table, a desk, a large/​heavy desk chair, etc etc. Lots of stuff. So if their estimate was accurate, there should have been about 3900 pounds for them to load up on move day.
Then they came, and packed up our stuff. Took a long time doing so – so long that the office kept telling us they didn’t know what was taking so long. Then they went silent. Two weeks went by, our delivery date kept getting pushed back, and the JK Moving coordinator who we had been assured would keep us informed didn’t respond to questions we asked. It wasn’t until I began publicly tweeting at JK that they began responding.
And that’s when the real trouble started: They didn’t weigh our stuff on our move day, or even the day after. They weighed it nearly two weeks later, at which point they announced it weighed 5500 pounds — 25 percent more than their estimate, and about 40% more if you factor in the stuff we got rid of. Bottom line: Either they weighed our stuff incorrectly, or their estimate was incompetently or dishonestly low.
Anyway, they said we owed $ 2000 more than the estimate, and that we had to pay that before they’d unload our stuff. Now, federal regulations say they can only require payment of 110% of the estimate before delivery, and have to bill any additional amount. When we pointed this out to them, they again went silent. As I write this, JK Moving claims they will deliver our belongings tomorrow — outside the delivery window they promised, by the way — but has consistently refused to say they will follow federal regulations and relinquish our possessions upon payment of 110% of the original estimate.

The 2 movers were great but THE COMPANY overcharges with a lot of hidden fees. For example, they charge a $ 150 travel fee to go to your place and get back to their office on top of the actual hours done. The moving consultants are not straightforward and are just after a sale. I guess it is normally a one time thing so they are not expecting repeat customers. So, a word of warning do not go with JK moving.

Generally, I would not recommend JK Moving Services.
The movers themselves were okay with the move: they arrived slightly early, packed everything up as quickly as they could, loaded up the truck, came to the new place and unloaded everything. Well, almost everything.
A couple of boxes never arrived at the new place — boxes that I know that the movers took. So either they accidentally forgot to unload the boxes on the truck (I think you’d notice a couple of boxes still on a nearly empty truck) or they DELIBERATELY forgot to unload the boxes. As a result, we’ve lost valuable things and there’s nothing that we can do about it. If it was an accident, they would’ve eventually seen that there are boxes on the truck and given us a call about it, but they didn’t.
The JK Moving Services policy of just 10 days to file a claim is insufficient for someone who just moved to a new home and is trying to unpack and find everything, and has other life events going on (work, travel, sleep, etc) to sort through things and file a claim.
The person that responds to comments on here (Rebecca) has indicated to others that 10 days to file a claim is typical in the industry. I cannot verify that statement with a few calls to other moving companies, but I would suggest that they create an additional value for their business by extending that to 30 days or more. 10 days is insufficient to sort through all of your belongings. People have jobs and other life events. Unfortunately, I’ll have to enjoy life with a few less possessions.

Easy to book with, and they even called me mid-​move to make sure things were going well.
The two movers I had, George and Nelson, were fast, efficient, polite and helpful. George in particular was awesome. They helped me get everything just as I wanted it and were pleasant and respectful.
I thought the rates were reasonable. I saw an ad for them at a Terps game and asked for their alumni special and got an additional $ 10/​hour off per the ad. Honestly, for the amount of stuff and stress I had, this was the best $ 650 I spent. For people complaining about the quotes, that’s really unfair to leave a bad review based on a quote. Don’t use them, then, if what you need does not match with what they can do. They have a minimum baseline to achieve for any job, and you leaving a bad review without even using their services is karmically awful, and not in the spirit of Unilocal.
I would definitely use this company again!

Move from DC to SLC
My moving consultant — Bill and coordinator Stephanie were fantastic. The quote was market fare, slightly higher but the quality of service and peace of mind were worth the price. The move day I wasn’t able to be on-​site but my friend took pictures and spoke to the crew. Extremely professional and prompt. The receiving side was a breeze. The long distance driver and local crew were efficient and very careful with my personals. They set everything up and put the boxes in each room. I pre-​packed my most valuable items just so I could ensure I did them my way. The larger items and boxes were is good condition. If i were to move again across country I would contact them.

I moved locally (down the street) today with JK movers. I am really happy with the movers themselves who lugged boxes and furniture for me for 9 hours today!!! They were careful, relentless and professional and really GREAT over all. If i had to rate the movers alone i would give them 4 stars.
However yesterday I also had another team of (pre-​move) packers who came to help me finish putting everything into boxes. That team gets 0 stars…
The packers were terrible!!! They just threw my clothes into the boxes, along with other miscellaneous objects like a straw basket (!!!). The team of packers were too expensive and completely un-​trained.
SO my advice would be: yes, ask these movers to move you. But DO NOT ask for the (pre-​move) packing services.

I was NOT expecting to ever write a five star review for a moving company, but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. We were referred to JK moving by a family member.
We moved out of a 3 story walkup in DC into our first house a few miles down the road and my fiancé had just had wrist surgery, so moving ourselves just wasn’t an option. They came out to do a consultation, and initially I thought the quote was pretty high, but we decided that we didn’t feel like looking at other movers, and they came to us referred so we went with them… Plus they were available on the date we wanted to move.
On moving day three guys show up with a big truck (on time!) and get down to business. I’ve truly never seen anything like it. We tried to help but quickly realized it was better just to get out of their way. They didn’t look like bodybuilders but MAN they could move! Having to lug all our furniture and boxes down three flights of stairs on a 90 degree day is not fun for anyone but they were true professionals. They didn’t scratch or ruin a single thing… We gave them waters and egg mcmuffins at the suggestion of a friend, and I am sure they would have taken care of our stuff regardless, but I think it engendered some good will. Plus they deserved it with all those steps. They were truly a pleasure to work with.
They quoted us for 5 hours and were done in 3.5 so the quote ended up being much higher than we actually paid which is always a nice thing!

JK Moving did my move from Wash DC to Denver. It has been awhile since I moved, so I was nervous that I was forgetting things. Too many Dateline shows, I was also nervous about my stuff showing up in good condition or even at all. JK Moving did an awesome job. they packed for me, and moved me out of my apartment and storage unit. Every member of their team was professional and courteous. I felt very comfortable I was in good hands and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Corporate move across the country.
Four families. 8 cars. 4 damaged vehicles (two of them resulting in more than $ 8K of cost to repair) and a bunch of scratched and dented furniture pieces at the delivery.
They wrap your things in a lot of paper, but that is about it.
