James Gettys Hotel

What a charming little hotel!!! For being built back in 1804, this place is in really good shape. Definitely well taken care of. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable, the personal service was so friendly, and the location was great. I would definitely recommend staying here!

We really loved staying at this hotel. Our suite was great and included a separate living room with TV, stove and fridge. Every day they would deliver a snack (cookies or apples) and breakfast for the next morning (pastries, OJ, cream for coffee). It was such a nice touch! The location was perfect. We could walk easily to everything downtown (a block from the main square) and there was easy parking in back for our car. We would definitely recommend staying here.
My only tip is that our room was the «Union» suite and it is right on the alley. People would congregate here in the night to smoke/​talk and it was hard to fall asleep (there is a bar right next door). Not the hotel’s fault, but if we came again, we would pick a different room location.

A very clean and centrally located hotel with large rooms and very good breakfasts delivered to your door. This would have been a 5 star place expect our room was above the courtyard they share with the Blue Parrot Bar. Now in the courtyard there is a sign which says no loitering after 10pm, but are a bunch of people in a bar going to acknowledge the sign or smoke a cig outside and talk loudly? The latter, obviously, and this kept us up more than once. No one is on duty at the front desk at night, either. I would stay here again but would make sure I didn’t get a room on the courtyard.

I don’t have a reason to give it only three stars. but if you’re looking for a historical hotel, it would get two stars. The location and ease of parking bump it up to four (oh, and the goodies left in the my room at night). The location was ideal, less than a block from the main circle everything up and down the main streets was easily within walking distance.
It was a little strange in that every single time we came in and out, which was quite a lot, there was never a body at the front desk. Your key granted you access through the front door, side door, and some back door (that I never used) because they lock up at 10PM. The alley between the hotel and the Blue Parrot is a shortcut to the parking lot as well as where the side stairs are located.
We had two rooms on the second floor, one larger than the other but both had a single queen bed. My room was the smaller of the two and overlooked the alley, back half of Blue Parrot. The other room overlooked the front street. Both rooms had that plush furry/​fuzzy carpeting from forty years ago. I said it reminded me of the carpeting in the upstairs bedroom of my grandparents’ old place. The bathroom was clean, relatively small but updated (like I said no historical pieces) as well as the fully-​stocked kitchenette. There is a TV and free wi-​fi in the sitting room of each suite.
Cheesecake, coffee cake, grapes were put out the night before for the morning. OJ and cream were in the fridge. There was your typical coffee and tea available as well. The cheesecake was sooo good. Also, they left me a cookie and big piece of chocolate. Thanks for that. fortunately I didn’t drink enough at dinner to come back and scarf it all down.
I would suggest the hotel for lengthier stays, as no one bugs you and the kitchenette would make easy fixing your own meals.

Ideal for a private getaway with access to all the history and attractions of Gettysburg. For whatever reason, I think we were expecting more of a «BNB» with a colonial type of vibe than a Hotel… but that was totally fine! The décor was plenty nice, the room was super spacious, they left us breakfast to enjoy ourselves in the morning (which was delicious!) and the staff attended to our every need. Definitely recommended.

We had a chance to stay this weekend. The room. The staff were terrific. The location was perfect. We will definitely stay there again.
