Super 8 Gresham/Portland

My family and I had this Super 8 as our last stop in our move across the country to live in the Portland area. I had to drag a Penske truck WITH a car trailer this whole way. It was a pain. A bigger pain was when I heard about the parking lot situation.
The manager advocated for himself saying he had a full house the night of our stay and told me about the somewhat difficult way for me to park my stuff. I first thought that he was using «full house» in some arbitrary way… but I was wrong– he had no vacancy in the morning.
It was difficult to park it but not impossible and I can admit when I’m wrong.
Everything else was perfectly fine– lots of HBO channels, the most comfortable beds at any Super 8 I’ve experienced, and actually decent coffee (but that I expected)
Only qualm was that the water faucet temps were switched and I almost burned myself one time– but that actually shows GREAT temps in the pipes.

Vanessa at the front counter was by far the rusedest customer service attendant of all time. ahveMy key was demagnetized and she wouldn’t make me a copy. I asked if she wanted to go upstairs to check my if and still wouldn’t. I have been staying in super 8’s on business trips for as long as I can remember and I don’t understand how someone would inconveniences a guest in such a way to make me boycott super 8.

Clean, relatively comfortable and cheap. Staff not the most friendly. No protein for breakfast. Dog– friendly, only $ 10.

The rooms are clean staff is friendly. My only complaint is the power went out for hours so we sat in our room without any power.

Mixed reviews but we enjoyed our stay very much! Nice clean room at a reasonable rate and accepted our dog. Nice public hot tub that was great on a blustery night in portland. We for sure stay here again! We are a senior couple.

Friendly and curious staff. Morning breakfast was good, nothing over the top. Only problem is whole place smelled like smoke. Room was clean and you get what you paid for.
I would only stay again because of the price and staff.

The Super 8 brand has been good to me, with its tendency to be budget friendly, be a great place to stay, and clean rooms. This Super 8 here in Gresham /​Portland is the epitome of that.
This recent stay at the Super 8 came after the heels of finishing another marathon in the Pacific Northwest state of Oregon. The only major difference was that I didn’t realize I booked a smoking room, instead of a non-​smoking room. The front desk clerk made me realize this when she told me. I didn’t care, as long as the room didn’t have a strong or lingering cigarette or cigar odor present in the room. This was a one night stay in late October 2015 and it was, for the most part, enjoyable and a quiet end to a wonderful, yet challenging weekend while in Hood River. Eventually, the room I was given, room 126, thankfully didn’t have any cigarette odor to it, so that was good. This Super 8 was quite nice and very suitable for my needs. While I didn’t partake in their continental breakfast, I took a look and it was basically cereal and juice and/​or coffee. No hot food here when I checked out at 6:30am the next morning.
This Super 8 is not the one closest to the PDX airport, but about 10 – 15 minutes away. I learned that the hard way, when I drove to the other one rather than this one in Gresham. This one is located 121 NE 181^st Street in Gresham. It’s in a residential area of sorts, but the price per night was decent enough to where I could be there and not regret it. Price per night average about $ 60/​night here, although it can vary. I used
for this booking and it had some seriously good deals here for this Super 8, so I had fun with that. The parking lot had spacious parking, so it was nice. I checked in on a Sunday afternoon and the process was nice and fast. The lady at the front desk was personable and professional. The Super 8 here was a 3 story building and was complete with a spa and fitness room, along with vending machines and ice machines as well.
For me, I just wanted a clean room with a reputable hotel chain, along with being budget friendly. The Super 8 here in Gresham /​Portland was nice and cheap. I’m glad that the smoking room I did receive wasn’t odorous at all, since they didn’t have a non-​smoking room available at the time, so I had to make due. The room was quite comfortable and it was clean. The bed was a king bed and I got a nice 7 ½ hours sleep, which was always great. The television worked as well as the in room shower system. The neighborhood around this Super 8 seemed safe and was quite nice. Overall, it was a comfortable stay and will consider staying here again, if returning to Portland OR next time around. I’d recommend staying here, 10 minute drive to the airport ain’t bad at all, although you’d be hitting the interstates for the fastest route available.

So i dont even want to give em this ONE star, they dont deserve it…
So you know how theres suppose to be Two Sheets? Well there was only one. I thought oh, they forgot one. No i looked more and saw there was the other sheet dirty and shoved down. where the peoples feet who slepted before us. When i explained to the lady at reception what i found, Instead of apologzing, she tried justifing it. You cant justify filth… thats like her not taking a shower for days and then trying to justify it. NO, it dont work like that dirty. Then i asked for three sheets. And apparently i was asking for too much. When we checked in a lady said «i spelt cocoa on my bed can i get new linen?» The woman gave it to her like nothing.
This place had toilet paper on the carpet. the tub, refer to the pictures. Air conditioner doesnt work well. Wall paper peeling off. Toilet has a dirty ring
We paid 179.00 to stay in filth and to be treated pretty crappy. I HAVE TO SAY, I STAYED IN SOME CRAP PLACES, BUT I DIDNT HAVE TO PAY SO MUCH. I KNEW I WAS GETTING WHAT I WAS PAYING FOR at those places!
I am so discussed with this place. I wasn’t going to rate them on here until they were herassing one of my family memebers WHO I PAID TO STAY HERE.
We usually stay at Days Inn up the road, but they were Full.

this was our 2^nd stay at this location. our first stay was 2 years ago and was very pleasant. this time was different. we arrived at about 2pm. the man at the desk was on the phone & didn’t acknowledge my presence. after he finished, he was indifferent at best. the room had a shower but no bath; the online room description omitted this. but the room was clean. they have a breakfast room open from 6−9am. our first morning my friend went down at 6:30 & what little there was was almost gone. the desk clerk was the same man from the day before & was worse than indifferent, even when several guests inquired/​complained about the breakfast situation. same day, maybe noon or 1pm, went back to the room which had NOT been cleaned. had to go get a maid to tell her to make sure our room got cleaned. came back several hours later & the room was clean. the next morning breakfast was as good as it was on our first visit & our room was cleaned, except there were 3 of us in the room, but only 2 washcloths. if I hadn’t had booked the room early & got a discount, I would’ve cancelled & gone elsewhere. I won’t be staying here again.

I’m giving this 3 stars because we knew it was a 2 star hotel when we booked it. It was clean but well used. The Wi-​Fi was pathetic. We were never able to log on. The breakfast was fine, but didn’t offer any protein option like a hard boiled egg, it was all gluten and two of us are gluten free. We stayed at 7 hotels on our vacation and most of them had a protein option. The whole stay was fine but we will not be returning.

Brought our dogs here on a road trip a couple months back.
The premises was super gross and unsafe. Broken glass and garbage everywhere. At one point the dumpster was blocking the back pathway that we used to take our dogs to the bushes. There was a random dirt parking lot outside our window, that we ended up using to load our luggage into the room, which made that easier… but was a major eyesore and security risk.
I was curious about the hot tub… which was in this small damp loud humid room. It was so unappealing.
There was no light above the dresser mirror, which made doing my makeup very difficult.
The room was in badly need of maintenance. I will post pictures, but the night stand trim was falling off, and the faucet was leaking from the handle. It was ghetto. The remote didn’t even work, and I tried to get that resolved but they told us to try to reset it with a code. which didn’t work because thew remote is broken… not mis-​coded. They just don’t listen at the front desk. So we had to use the button on the tv to turn up and down the volume. The tv is probably 25 years old btw.
Something that really bothered me was how they used way too small garbage liners for the bathroom areas. You put a cup in there, and you can see it poking out at the top. I don’t comprehend this, it’s like they don’t want you throwing garbage away.
The continental breakfast was bleh with only two cereal options which was sugary or more sugary. No Cheerios or corn flakes. Very limited options, so that we ended up going for brunch later.

Staff was kind and helpful, and my room was clean. You can’t ask for much more from a Super 8. Beware of thin walls, but that applies at all hotels/​motels, I suppose. Free wifi worked just fine, breakfast was standard. (visited august 2014)

Before starting my review, note that my review is (so far) only the 2^nd 2014 review. All other reviews are ancient history that may not reflect the «current» state of the property.
Check-​in time was 1pm which is rare. Most properties have 3pm or 4pm check-​in times. I showed up early and was in my room at 12:15pm. It was room 226, a smoking room as requested. It was close to 90 degrees outside. So, I first checked air conditioning. From the «off» position, it only took 30 minutes to cool the room with the «max-​cool» setting. Ahhhhh. It was quiet, too, yet pumped out a steady stream of cold air. The room amenities were old. But, cleanliness and functionality were more important to me … and the room passed. One note. The TV was analog (deep-​dish) like my TV at home. It was OK for me. But if you’re a high-​def person who likes their TV screens wide and flat, you might be disappointed. FWIW, they use Comcast cable TV. Tons of channels to choose from including music channels and FREE HBO. That was a pleasant surprise I didn’t expect in an affordable property like this one.
The free WIFI was also via Comcast. Using the «speedtest​.net» website, 1pm speeds were 8.32mbps down & 3.49 up. Not bad for midday considering the fact that bandwidth is shared between all guests. Later at 7pm, speeds were 11.27mbps down & 3.34mbps up. Note that at this property, WIFI is password-​protected — activated when you open your browser every time you boot-​up. If they don’t give you the password upon check-​in, be sure to ask.
While I won’t detract any stars from my review, there was one issue I think the property manager should address. I suspect this is also true of other rooms besides mine. The wall where you find the desk has 4 electric outlets available. All of them were in use by (1) the refrigerator, (2) the microwave, (3) the TV, and (4) the Comcast cable box. This left me wanting for three more outlets — one for the light over the desk (which was unplugged), one for my cellphone (charger), and one for my laptop. Since I rarely use a microwave, I unplugged it and used it for the light over the desk. Though I preferred it on the desk, I plugged my cellphone into an outlet on another wall. And, my laptop cord was «just» long enough to reach another outlet on that other wall.
Note to manager. Most travelers (business & pleasure) like having a light over their desk. And, they like to use laptops, cellphones, and possibly other peripherals. Consider springing for a cheap power-​strip.
has a six-​outlet Belkin power-​strip for $ 4.99 + shipping. But you might find one just as cheap locally (Walmart, KMart, or Target). Plug the power-​strip into the outlet currently used by the microwave. Then, plug the microwave into the 1^st strip outlet, plug the desk light into the 2^nd strip outlet, leaving guests with 4 other strip outlets they can use for their laptops, peripherals, and cellphones — all close to the desk (workstation).
I stayed 2 nights. The bed was comfy. The room appliances all worked. The bathroom stuff worked (liked the regular coffee, BTW). The freebie breakfasts each morning were tasty & filling. And, the housekeeping people did a good job, too. I left them a $ 20 tip ($ 10 per day). Please don’t cheap out on tipping the housekeeping people if they do a good job. They are the lowest-​paid yet hardest-​working people at most hotels and motels and deserve the consideration.
Just an afterthought comment on reviews of this and other properties. Hotels & motels fall into two basic categories … those that are designated 100% smoke-​free and those that have a small number of smoking rooms. And, there are two different kinds of non-​smokers … the majority of whom are tolerant of smokers and a vocal minority who flat-​out can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke (or smokers). For example, see the 9÷24÷2013 review.
This leaves me with a question for the latter group of non-​smokers — some of whom claim to be able to smell smoke at a distance or even through walls, floors, and ceilings. With a plethora of hotels/​motels out there that are designated as 100% smoke-​free, why in the heck did you book here (or at a similar property with smoking rooms)??? If you smell cigarette smoke at properties with smoking rooms, why do you act so surprised and indignant??? It’s like checking into a hotel, knowing in advance that they had a small alligator farm on the property, and then complaining about the alligators. Sorry. I have ZERO sympathy for you. Grow up, use some common sense, and only check into 100% smoke-​free properties where this won’t be an issue. Nuff said on that.

I will be the first admit that I am a snob. But that doesn’t mean I’m looking for a good deal. But, this hotel was not the best.
The service was terrible. It took ten minutes for the front desk man to realize we where there and even then, we had to find a maid to get the man. The hotel smelled terrible, like someone was trying to cover up cigarette smoke. The continental breakfast was old and stale.
The good things about the hotel, close to a MAX line, the room was clean, the wifi was free and the bed was decently comfortable.
Next time I will definitely be spending more to stay closer to Portland in a nicer hotel.

Mediocre hotel, the Days Inn down the road is a bit better. First room (#102) was noisey cause it’s right by the street and you can her the cars passing by constantly, the toilet was a little dirty when I checked into the room. After complaining they moved me to another room (#120) and it was much better, cleaner, roomier, and quieter. However some of the apples at breakfast were bad and some were super soft. YUCK! Right next to the lightrail so that’s a plus. Very friendly front staff.

My family and I booked a week-​long stay here as we settled in my freshman brother at the University of Portland. It wasn’t the nicest of hotels, but the accommodations were good for the price.
The hallways smelled of smoke even in the non-​smoking areas, but the inside of our room was very clean for a hotel of this affordability. The free wifi worked excellently. I would be gaming on my laptop while my parents watched Netflix on their iPad at night, and neither of us experienced lag.
Continental breakfast was available until 9:30am. It included your standard fare like coffee, juice, raw fruits, muffins, and breads for sustenance moreso than flavor.
The neighborhood’s feel made me wary of walking around at night, but the hotel’s location is convenient to various amenities. The southern end of the block leads to the light rail. A small plaza two blocks north contains a liquor store, Albertsons for grocery shopping, and food options like Subway, Joy Teriyaki, and Starbucks. Beyond that are more food options like Shari’s for American food and pies, Tom’s Pizza and Sports Bar, Round Table Pizza, and Meeka Sushi.
Look elsewhere if you want to actually enjoy the luxury and comfort of your hotel. For those seeking lodging without the extra fluff, Super 8 is a nice and affordable choice.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING IN THIS PLACE SMELL LIKE CIGARETTES!!!
My friends and I wanted to take a short road trip to Portland, so we wanted to get the cheapest hotel possible without having to sacrifice our safety or our dignity. So, we booked a hotel with this Super 8 and prayed that nothing would go wrong.
And to be honest, nothing did go wrong. Free wifi, free parking, and free breakfast every morning from 6:30 — 9:00 AM that consisted of bread for toast, jelly, butter, waffle batter for the waffle machine, yogurt, bananas and apples, and those packaged breakfast pastries that I try to stay away from. New sheets and towels (by request — basically you put this little flyer thing on your bed that essentially says, «Please, change my sheets and give me new towels») every morning, and a showerhead that, THANKFULLY, didn’t work like a dripping faucet.
But HONESTLY, THE SMELL. We got a non-​smoking room, but man, it was like the ghosts of all cigarettes past came and decided to loiter around in every stinking corner of this hotel. Even the coffee smelled like cigarettes. And the faucet water. And the shower water. I WAS CONFUSED!!!
My friends kept reassuring me that it was all in my mind (and maybe it was, honestly) but it haunted me the whole time we stayed there.
ALSO. I don’t really have allergies, especially like pollen allergies, but the whole time I was there I had a stuffy/​runny nose and nausea. Wah.

This place gets one star for the nice lady at the front desk and another for free wifi. Other than that the place is a dump. Just run down overall. As a young girl traveling alone, I asked for a room off of the first floor, but even though the place is empty that wasn’t possible. Also, the in-​room coffee machine spews all over the place. All the lights in the room are fluorescent so you feel like you’re in a doctor’s office. Crappy desk chair with holes in it that doesn’t adjust. Urine yellow colored walls. Ugh. If I ever need a room in this town again I’ll definitely be paying the 10 bucks more to stay someplace nicer.

I was really starting to think I was asking for far too much. I was having a hell of a time meeting all of these requirements, but this place came through, with exceptional service and absolutely positively no hidden charges. This is definitely no fancy schmancy hotel, but it’s a lot nicer than what you usually see in a Super 8. Our 2 queen bed suite had a nice couch and living area for the kidlet to play as well as a mini fridge that wasn’t so mini and a microwave. They had free wi-​fi too, but we found out only one computer can be on at a time per room (that’s part of your fifth star fail my friends, but I understand the logic behind it.) I went a bit over budget, topping out at a grand 108.60 (this was with a AAA discount and 20 bucks in pet fees) but every fee was presented to me up front with honesty and we weren’t charged extra for having more than two people in the room, nor did my mom and I have to pretend to be the same person to avoid that 4 people to a room limit most places have. Good thing considering that isn’t working out so well these days, you know, me with red hair and her with gray, yea… notsomuch.
The room itself was nice and clean, I walked barefoot in it (the ultimate test!) all day and I think my feet get grosser at home. No weird things hiding under the bed and a bath mat already in the tub, which was also sparkling clean.
This place gets crazy busy though and if you arrive late parking can be a bit of a circus (the other part of the fifth star is lost here.) It’s right across the street from a MAX station though, so getting to downtown while carless is an easy task.
Also, you gotta love condoms in the vending machine. I stood in the hallway laughing my arse off for about five minutes, the counter lady thought I was nuts. But kudos my friends at Super 8! You don’t turn a blind eye to the shenanigans here, you just support safe «relations!»
When I need to stay in Portland, but not IN Portland, this will be my new go-​to from now on!
