Wu Steven-Shang, MD

I was referred to Dr Wu years ago by my regular MD Dr Chen.
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis over twenty yeara ago and Dr Wu has performed serveral colonoscopies and keeps my ulcerative colitis in remission. His staff is trilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin and English so he can handle a variety of patients although I’d estimate his base to be majority of Chinese.
He’s open on a few Saturdays each month which is convenient and he uses an outpatient facility in Whittier for exams which is minutes from my Whittier residence. In addition, Dr Wu has a technician that conducts ultrasound test of the abs for non intrusive procedures or a combination with colonoscopy for detailed accuracy. His staff is friendly, professional and they always call the day before to remind patients of their appointment.
Dr Wu is an expert, I’m receiving IVIG for auto immune illness Phemphigus Vulgaris and he prescribed me medicine for preventing hepatitis B — pricy at $ 1080.00 for a 30 day supply! I also need 3 months of once a month consecutive shots also.
I’m definitely satisfied with Dr. Wu and would recommend him to everyone.

The review is for office staff.
1. My friend was forced to transfer since office won’t allow her to ask dr to clarify thing. Has to mk anoth appt in mons to ask that.
2. I waited 4 mons for appt tomorrow. Was pushed every way to cancel today, due to a pending authorization, which is going to show up the end of today or early tomorrow morning, before appt time tomorrow, after I worked out w insurance company.
Of course that’s not good enough for them,
Another stuff even suggests me that there will be No Value seeing dR Wu tomorrow,
Saying I am taking meds now and have seen another dr. They meds and issues are all similar (?!) So no need to see Dr Wu for second opinion!!!
So I should cancel the one tomorrow,
Or reschedule to the next available one in 3 month, Jan!!!
I said I waited 4 months for this appt, can I pay my own money to see Dr? Was refused!!!
OK, never had such inconsiderate staffs before. Very upset with it.

Dr. Wu is great as a doctor. He’s nice and doesn’t give me that creepy Taiwanese doctor feel that terrified me as a child. The front staff is another story. I called in to let Dr. Wu know I’m out of refills for my meds and if he can continue my prescription since he told me to continue my meds. The front desk said rudely (and practically yelling at me as if her time is so precious) that it’s the pharmacy’s job to do refill requests and all pharmacies do this. ITS MY MEDS! I take them, and I know when I’m out. No reason to be rude about it. Front staff needs to be able to handle things better.

The reason I gave Dr. WU one star is because I hope he is a better DOCTOR than his front office is at doing their job. When I called to make an appointment, the earliest available date was 6 weeks from then!!! Ok fine, I need a specialist. So two days prior to the appointment I called to confirm. They did not have me on their schedule. WOW! The lady that I spoke to on the phone was nice enough to give me the same appointment day but with an earlier time. When I arrived 30 minutes early, I was welcomed with WE DON’T HAVE YOU ON OUR SCHEDULE AND THE PROCEDURE YOU NEED DONE IS NOT EVEN PERFORMED ON MONDAYS!!! After I came home, I called the office and asked to speak to the manager. Fat chance. They told me that she will be there in an hour. Second time I called they told me that she left for the day. That is why I gave Dr. WU only one star because I never met him and I hope he will read this and do something about it. He is a specialist and with this kind of service he will not be able to help people who really need him. IT’S A SHAME. PLEASE DOCTOR WU CLEAN UP YOUR FRONT OFFICE.

My entire family and I go to Dr. Wu. My brother and I both had ulcers for many years that have slipped past too many doctors. Dr. Wu was the only one who helped us resolve our stomach issues. My Mom and aunt had grown lumps in their colon and Dr. Wu was the one who had found it and removed them. Best doctor in LA!

When I told the front desk that I’m having the HMO insurance, she gave me an appointment which is one month later. I don’t feel well so I ask if I can get a sooner appointment if I pay by cash. She gave me an appointment which is 2 weeks later. Now you know why I give a two star.

From my father’s side, I received a very weak stomach lining.
From my mother’s side, I received lactose intolerance.
It would make sense for me to have a gatroenterologist.
Dr. Wu is an awesome doctor. He is very caring and friendly and seriously knows his stuff. In fact, he was the one who diagnosed me with lactose intolerance after another doctor incorrectly told me that I had irritable bowel syndrome. I’ve come in a couple times over the years for a bunch of stomach/​intestinal related ailments and he always has me feeling better by the end of the day.
My only complaint is the wait time. Even if you make an appointment, you should still expect to wait 40 minutes to an hour. But hey, it’s a small price to pay if you want to see a great gastroenterologist.
