Stack’s Pancakes

Some friends and I visited Hilton Head Island last weekend for the half marathon race and stayed on the island for a few days. Stack’s Pancakes sponsored the race and was at the event with 10% off coupons for the runners. They also provided cupcakes, coffee, and tomato bisque soup, and they invited the out-​of-​town runners to check out their restaurant.
The Sunday after the race, we visited Stack’s for breakfast. It’s always a great idea to support a race sponsor and you can’t beat good pancakes! We were a party of 8 and arrived around 9:30 AM on a Sunday, but we only had to wait around 5 minutes for a table. Our waitress was nice and patient with us because we had a lot of questions about the menu.
Our food came out quickly and was delicious. The menu is large and includes a lot of breakfast items such as pancakes, waffles, omelets, and even crepes (including savory crepes!). They had some signature dishes I’ve never seen at other restaurants, too.
I had the egg and cheese biscuits and added tomato to them. I also sampled my friend’s fruit crepes and had one of the short stack pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and almost melt-​in-​your-​mouth. The fruit crepes were completely filled with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and cream; however they weren’t heavy and didn’t give a sugar high like I would’ve expected. Stack’s also has a breakfast buffet but none of us opted for that.
The restaurant is a little divey and dated, so if you’re looking for something hip, you won’t find it here. But you’ll find some really great food and huge portions for the money. I would definitely recommend Stack’s for breakfast if you’re on the island and I’d visit again.

We had a quick breakfast here before heading out of town. It seemed a little pricy, but it’s probably pretty normal for the area. Everything was in the $ 10 range. It was $ 25 for 2 people with meals and drinks. I had chicken & waffles. They were great and plenty. I boxes half for the road. My husband had Hilton Head Breakfast. He said it was delicious and plenty of food. The service was great– quick & super friendly. We will definitely go back if we return to Hilton Head.

We were visiting Hilton Head with another couple and noticed this restaurant’s high reviews. In our opinion it does not deserve the #1 breakfast spot in HHI. Our waitress was very nice (Jiovanna) but the food was mediocre and the guy delivering the food looked dirty and was not attentive. If you want big food this is your place; but if you want a tasty breakfast (with food that you look forward to eating again) then I would suggest going to Watusi, the Plantation Café or the Sunset Grill. We’ve eaten at those locations on multiple occasions and will not be coming back to Stacks.

A typical diner. Decent food and prices. Service was good. Nothing stood out. The potato casserole was nasty.

We hadn’t been here in over 10 years– no particular reason we haven’t been back in all that time. We just like other places better. But today we decided to give it a shot. The place looked exactly the same as it did 10 years ago. They are in big need of redecorating.
The food was pretty good. My wife had Eggs Benedict and I had a breakfast combo. Everything came out hot and tasted good. My wife really liked her breakfast. My pancakes were good but unspectacular. You’d expect a place that calls itself a pancake house to have better pancakes.
Service was a little slow. Apparently when they come back to heat up your coffee you only get half a cup.
Bottom line– good food for a good price but there are better options here in Hilton Head.

Had eaten here several years ago before I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. My wife saw they were advertising GF pancakes and waffles and took me there. Long story short, beat GF pancakes ever. They used Bob’s Red Mill products and some how made them better. My wife had their Crème Brûlée French Toast and loved it. We both can’t wait to go back.

Great location for HH visitors to island. During week the lines are minimal. The quiche is good, pecan waffles and breakfast platter comes with pancakes. Service this trip was better than prior but also it was during less busy time of year.
Worth a visit…

My wife, 2 kiddos and I really enjoyed breakfast here. I grabbed a crape with crab meat, shrimp and a lobster sauce. Pretty tasty. My wife enjoyed an omlete which came with potatoes and 2 pancakes. Kids ate all of their pancakes and the apple sauce. Server was great and food came quickly.

Food was great but the service wasn’t very good. I would definitely not get the coffee it was horrible. Crab benedict was delicious but not very much crab.

Had pancakes and omelet. Waitress brought us ham instead of bacon in our omelette. Waitress not attentive but the place was very busy. Food was ok. Great home fries. Omelette needed more ingredients and cheese inside instead of on top. We split the meal and the amt. of food was adequate. Charged ‘$ 1.85 to split the meal and get an extra plate.

My family (5 adults) went to Stack’s for brunch after church today. The restaurant was busy (a good sign!) and we waited about 10 minutes for a table but with such nice weather, nobody minds waiting outside in the sun!
The prices were great and the food was equally excellent and came quickly. From the pancakes to the grits and eggs and biscuits and gravy, everything was cooked the way we asked. Portions were generous. Our bill with tip was $ 50, so the value was excellent as well.

The wait was tolerable. Service was great. Breakfast was very good. No way to leave hungry.

A Casual, Homey, small business owned — no franchise here, as far as I know. We were lucky and ended up here when it wasn’t crazy busy. It being our first time on Hilton Head Island we weren’t sure if we’d be able to find a casual place not crazy expensive. This was great for our needs. I had crepes that were delicious, very sweet. My husband had steak and eggs that he thought were very good. We were able to chat after breakfast with coffee, and not feel rushed out, we appreciated this, as we were on vacation. I would recommend this restaurant, and it is good for families, or if you don’t want to spend big bucks on breakfast this is your place!

We love it. Had a 10 minute wait. Chicken and waffle ws good. Hubby got a new item, Philly cheessteak bowl. It was great. Pancake taste good. Warm syrup and crispy bacon.

Fairly typical diner atmosphere, but with a few more creative dishes, including crab and shrimp omelet and crêpe, etc. Server attentive and prompt, food decent. All in all, if you really can’t make your own eggs at home, this place will work just fine. I imagine if you’re in the mood for pancakes, this is the place to be, but they didn’t resonate that morning. We did order a pancake for the little one and she loved it — although she is not a picky customer as long as it’s made with dough and has powdered sugar on top of it.

Well I am not a french toast kinda girl which seems to be their speciality. I got the low country omelet not so great crab was very fishy tasting.
My mate got an omelet asked for no peppers well that didn’t happen… couldn’t find waitress… so he didn’t eat.
The manager took his meal off bill but wasn’t very apologetic… even charged for coffee which never get refilled… not impressed, too bad right next to hotel I was staying in: (

My family and I enjoyed the service at Stacks. The wait was worth it, which was approximately 15 minutes during the month of March (may be longer in the summer). I had the shrimp and crab crêpe with lobster sauce, and that was to die for. The saltiness to start with then to finish off with the French toast which my husband needed help finishing, and I was happy to oblige.

The crème brûlée was very good 5 stars.
Also had the south Carl crêpe 3 stars. Service was excellent. Thank you

There are much better places to have breakfast in the Hilton Head area. This place has mediocre food washed down with terrible service. I would skip out on this one. Now this is based on one visit, so keep that in mind.
I went with a party of 4 on a Sunday at around 10:00, so of course Stacks was packed. We actually considered this a good sign. The place is pretty big and every table was filled. There were people stacked inside waiting and people stacked outside waiting. We went to put our name on the list and we were told that it would only be a twenty minute wait. We thought that it would be much worse, so twenty minutes was music to our ears.
We decided to wait outside and the first bad experience occurred out there. There is a vendor set up right outside of the restaurant selling tours of the island, kayak adventures, etc… The man working the stand was rude and not personable at all. I think that this is a poor choice by Stacks. It seems cheesy to have a vendor outside of the restaurant.
The one good thing that did happen at Stacks was that they stuck to their time frame. We were called into the restaurant right at about 20 minutes as promised. We were seated at a table and given menus. This was the last time we would see anyone for 15 minutes. Our waitress then came and gave us some waters with no apologies for the wait. She seemed distracted and kind of ran off again mumbling to herself. All of us were in some serious need of some coffee and it was another 5 – 10 minutes before we were given that option. I could see the mugs and the coffee dispenser from my table. I considered multiple times just getting up and getting it myself. We finally got some coffee. Again there was no apology for the wait and the same lackadaisical attitude. Excited to finally touch my lips to some coffee, I took a sip. The coffee was terrible. Things were going from bad to worse.
We were finally given the option to order. I opted for the Stacks Big Breakfast. This came with 3 eggs, 2 pancakes, home fries, bacon, sausage, and ham. The food came out fairly quickly, but our expectations had been lowered significantly. The Stacks Big Breakfast was mediocre at best. The stand out was the ham. It was juicy, flavorful, and not too salty. Ironically, the worst things in the Big Breakfast were the pancakes. If you’re going to name your restaurant Stacks, you need to bring your A game on at least one thing: pancakes! The pancakes were spongy, dry, and tasteless. Very disappointing.
Even paying for our meal was a process. Once the waitress drops of the bill, you have to take it up to the front to pay. No big deal. The problem begins when you actually get up to the front. For some reason only one of their cash registers can be used at a time. This means that even if there are 2 lines and 2 cashiers only one of them can ring someone up at a time.
This place seems like it is packed just about every weekend. It is not worth the wait. The food is mediocre, the pancakes are terrible, the atmosphere is lacking, and the service leaves a lot to be desired. This is a glorified IHOP but worse.

I had been here before and remembered it being better… I was quite let down. The buffet looked tempting at first, them I realized that I could get just about whatever was on the buffet in a normal meal sized portion for a fraction of the cost.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which, was meh. It seemed like the gravy wasn’t heated up all the way and was sparse on the sausage. It came with an egg, which was cold and grits which were my favorite part.
My companion got the country ham breakfast sandwich which was good. The ham was super salty as it should have been. I was jealous! We also got a short stack of pancakes which were kind of rubbery but not bad in flavor. The absolute biggest disappointment came from the syrup. This was about the nastiest excuse for maple syrup ever. They must have confused Karo Syrup with the actual maple.
Sadly, I will not take myself back. I’d recommend it highly for people that want to pile their plate high with breakfast meats from the buffet.
