Best grocery store in Hoboken! Super clean, a huge selection, and great pricing. I only buy organic food and this store has been an absolute lifesaver in Hoboken. I’m not too picky about label as long as it’s organic so I’m usually able to find almost all of what I have on my list on sale!
Also, the staff here is super friendly and nice. They always recognize and greet me when I come in!

Open at 9 and closed at 9… still. How can you do biz, in such a vibrant area, with such limited hours? crazy, nice store, with great stuff, though;yet, what a shame, that they keep kindergarten hours.

I love this store. The prices are great! I only eat organic (unless out obviously) so I love knowing this place is walking distance and affordable. The other markets on Washington. thumbs down. I love Organic Basic Food!

I have been going to this place for awhile but after my Xmas day visit I said I would finally leave a review. They have a great selection and everything is really organized. When they have a sale it’s really a sale (not like a whole foods sale). I went in on Xmas day scrambling for everything. I was running late. I had to make vegan cupcakes and needed mulled wine spices and I was basically a deer in headlights because I was so stressed out. One older gentleman was so awesome and helpful — I wouldn’t have been out of there as quickly if it wasn’t for him! Every time I asked for something he literally ran to grab things for me! That’s great service and I was so grateful! Plus they were open on Xmas day — PHEWW!

This store is fabulous from the exhaustive selection of both organic and specialty foods, vitamin supplements and toiletries, to the extremely attentive staff and the great everyday prices and sales. It is rare that I ever leave here without an item that I came in for. I hope that everybody in Hoboken knows about this place because it is truly a treasure. The staff is really lovely and accommodating as well which makes it even more pleasure. Also a great place to check if you’re looking for a hard-​to-​find grain or spice. Cannot say enough about it. Oh wait, and fabulous baby food section too.

Absolutely love this store — very clean and they have a huge selection of protein powers, vitamins /​supplements, protein bars, etc… Staff is super helpful and very friendly. A great health food store to have in the neighborhood!

I love this place. For organic brands, they are cheaper than Whole Foods and have a wider selection. Their produce is limited and super pricey, so I usually just go here for my organic shelf basics, dairy, and frozen food needs. I also love their health and beauty selection. They’ve introduced me to so many amazing brands that make me feel great. Try this place if you’re into organics

I’ve been living in Hoboken for 15 years and have been a costumer at this store for at least the same amount of time. Never had a problem, but today the story changed. I was treated very badly by one of its employees. The Asian old man was extremely R U D E, cutting me off short and not responding my questions about essential oils, that I was trying to buy to use on my beard. He even insinuate that I may have a disease when I was trying the tester on the skin of my hand. It was a very bad experience since I’m very kind to everyone. He was very lucky I’m a civilized human being and just lost a good costumer.

Crazy about this place. I always buy my water here since larger retail stores jack up the price. I like that its small since i tend to roam in stores and get «lost»

Nice market with a good selection, but when they charge more per pound for pine nuts ($ 39.99) than most places charge for lobster tails then you know they’re just here to price gouge the consumer.

I really like this store. I stop by a lot to get juice and kambucha. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because I wish they had fresh, pre-​made salads. I’d be buying my lunch here everyday!!! I just got bored of their vegan sandwiches, wraps and noodles.

Basic food, basic sign, basically sometimes almost once in a while forget about this place since I live so far from Washington Street.
Today — not so much! Don’t drive to Whole Foods in Edgewater. Go here.
While they don’t have the lowest prices on everything, they have the best organic /​non-​GMO selection in Hoboken. I like to think of it as a mini Whole Foods, just without the crazy meat department.
I find it useful to come in with a sense of what I need and just browse the aisles. What I walk out with depends on what is on sale, and the store is small enough that you can be in and out in 15 minutes (not counting the time you spend waiting in line to check out.)
Today’s haul consisted of Kashi cereal, gluten free bread and waffles, fresh ground peanut butter, Stacy’s pita chips, pasta and organic sauce… all acquired at prices way below what I would pay anywhere else for the same things.
I’m a huge fan of trail mix, and Basic Food is the only place around with a great selection of raw nuts, seeds, and dried berries to mix together into an awesome trail mix for obligatory healthy snacking.
Be ready to squeeze through the store, as one baby stroller pretty much takes up the whole aisle, and lines can back up pretty deep into them as well… but that just gives you extra time to grab a few more things.

No matter how many times I vow to make a quick run into Organic Basic Food, I wind up spending at least double the amount of time that I had initially planned. My awe in the shear selection of organic, gluten– and dairy-​free, and other healthy items here is renewed with every visit. I cannot help but linger in each aisle, almost always finding something new to sample. From healthier snack chips and cereals to natural house cleaners, they sell it all! Plus, I would say that the prices, on a whole, are very reasonable for the quality of the products. This is truly my favorite store in Hoboken!

Best selection of organic and natural foods in town. They also have a huge selection of natural vitamins and supplements, a variety of pay-​by-​weight organic nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, etc., a large variety of juices, nut butters (peanut, almond, sunflower, etc), organic spices, and even household cleaning products and toiletries. Their organic fresh produce selection is small, but again more extensive than other stores.
Not everything is organic, or even non-​GMO, so you have to be careful and make sure you read the labels. But there is nowhere else in town that even comes close to what you can find here.
The staff is very knowledgeable and they always ask if you need help.
Certain items are priced higher than other stores in town, while other items are cheaper. They also have good sales. So if you know what to look for it doesn’t have to be expensive. Even though many items are pricey and you can get some of the same products at other stores in town or online, the convenience of having everything in one place is worth it to me.

I lived just a couple doors down from this store for years, but rarely frequented, in spite of some nice offerings. Why? Every time I ventured to the beauty aisle, an older, stern gentleman would follow and watch me like a hawk from an uncomfortably close distance. In the past, employees have explained this is in response to theft (a fact I find hard to believe, given the neighborhood and well-​heeled clientele). I found this «loss prevention» practice to be at best unnerving, and at worst (and more typically) downright insulting.
I hadn’t been here for some time, but happened to be back on this block and was in a forgiving mood and ventured in to see if I could find some nutrient serum. Sadly, I had the EXACT same experience. On my way out, I spoke to the owner to relay my disappointment at the poor treatment, and that I would not be back. My resources will be better spent elsewhere.

It was such a delight surprise when I discovered that they carry One Degree brown rice cereal. I’ve been looking for this for awhile ever since it was recommended by Holistichabits, my favorite health/​nature youtuber. Their produce also seemed fresh.
I’m also happy that they provide testers for beauty/​skin products. You want to be 100% happy before purchasing any expensive products like Mychelle or Dr. hauschka, and I’m glad I was able to «swatch» the items that I wanted to try.
Of course, it is not as big or fancy as the Whole foods but Organic Basic Food also has sales for many items. 5 stars for excellent customer service and being the «supermaket» for organic/​healthy products.

I know this shop has been around for a very long time, but it’s a recent discovery for me. My foray into the world of the Paleo diet has had me on the lookout for shops that offer otherwise difficult to find items if you only have access to A&P, Shop Rite, etc.
Basic is not a large store, so be prepared for the tight aisles. I know it’s hard to avoid, but would be great if the strollers and massive, SUV-​sized baby carriers can be left at home, or at least at the curb. Lock em up.
The tight space isn’t a major issue here though because they have done everything they can to fill it with great product. From nuts to rice to produce to all kinds of dairy-​free milks. The selection is every health conscious person’s dream.
The pricing is OK. It is a bit up & down, and I think most people expect to pay a premium at these spots. It is just difficult to gauge. I always expect nuts to be expensive, however, their Applegate meat products are anywhere from $ 1-​$ 2.50 more expensive than other places. And that’s a product pretty widely sold.
They also offer a wide variety of natural supplements in the rows all the way to the left when you enter.
I ride my bike here almost weekly now, and am not sure what to do when the weather doesn’t permit riding. It’s no surprise to anyone familiar with Hoboken, but parking is non-​existent.

I love Organic Basic Food. I started going here just to pick up my Whey Protein– I get the Biochem-​Sugar free, 100% Whey (Vanilla or Chocolate) –free of all that artificial hormone crap, and only 90 Calories! They have plenty of of options but that one worked best for me.
This place has such a variety of things that keep healthiness in mind and it’s not expensive as most would assume. I picked up vegetable gluten-​free pasta which is delicious, flax seeds, organic peanut butter, and a few others things. They have it all fruits, vegetables, meats, vitamins etc. Also, the employees are super helpful if you have any questions.

Just as you would imagine, this store has a lot of organic food. It also has a plethora of vitamins, minerals, and other supplements. They also run a lot sales, something I would not expect from a store that is not a huge corporate chain.
I am not someone who will spend lots of dough on organic products. However, I can respect the selection they have put together and I know if I do need organic products that this store is at the top of my list.

I stopped in looking for something very specific, something I was unable to find in the other 3 places I had checked… red palm oil. Yea, I’d never heard of it either. But I needed it for the latest blog I post. After finding the right aisle, I stared at a plethora of jars and cans for about 10min before finding it! I was ecstatic! I had began to come to terms with the fact that I would just have to find a substitute. Not the case. Basic Organic to the rescue. The palm oil was the only one of its kind, but that was all I needed.
I’ve stopped in before to find specific, ethnic spices… this is def the place to go for these kinds of things in downtown Hoboken.
I’m not a fan of the layout. The cashier lines are a little confusing. Sometimes it seems like 1 line for all registers and then other times not. It seems to kinda result in a free-​for-​all. The aisles are all super duper tight and people kill me seriously walking around using carts… get a life. Get a basket, and get a life. You are not in ShopRite!
I will definitely be back!
