Papa Lucks is the single best cup of coffee in town. I recommend the cup of coffee here. The wild customer might want to add cream or possibly even sugar. The owner, bless his heart, is a gentleman and a scholar. And his wife, also the owner, has the patience of a saint. Even if the coffee was horrible here, it would still be well worth your time to stop by simply for these two just to say hi. He is the kind of owner who would clearly rather be on the customers side of the counter, hanging out with his friends at this fun coffee joint. If you are lucky, he might even pick up his mic and emcee your beverage experience. If he does this, don’t be alarmed. It’s actually super hilarious and an experience you are sure not to forget. The staff is always nice too. This mom and pop team hire well. Can’t say enough good things about UHs best cup of coffee

One of the best places to buy your coffee on campus, if you ask me. With my busy schedule, it’s difficult to make my way here. But, when I do… I’m never disappointed. Not only are the people who work there so nice, but the coffee is great too. A lot better than Starbucks too really… and much more affordable also!

Man like Kylie O. I really wanted to like this place. I’m all for the privately owned businesses that use local. I’m all for buy local stay local. So I have tried Papa Luck’s many times. I have gotten coffee there, iced coffee there, mochas, italian sodas and even just regular soda. And they only thing that I like there are the bottles of water and cans of soda they sell. Also I do enjoy the fruit they serve. But the stuff they make there is a no go. The only thing I would get from here is the iced coffee with a shot of some type of syrup in it. But seriously how can you screw that up. Even I can’t screw that up. There mocha uses burned espresso in it and it tasted horrible, their italian soda uses club soda, cream and flavoring. I mean this is stuff you can make in your own kitchen. Maybe its because I can make this stuff but I’m not impressed. Maybe its because their on a college campus or maybe because its a local business but this place is not worth going to. If you really want coffee go to the starbucks in campus center.

The people that run it are wonderful. The food is great and it is an integral part of University of Hawaii culture. I love the music, the people that go there and the people who run it have put so much into it. If they still have it, order the bagel, cream cheese and locks. Always get your sandwich grilled and order a guava Italian soda for a delicious treat on a hot day.

Since school is starting up tomorrow, I thought I’d jot down a quickie on Papa Luck’s. So far, everything here has been alright. My girlfriend has tried the iced coffee and I’ve tried various pastry type edibles and what not. It’s nothing to sing home about of course but if you find yourself wandering around campus looking for something to snack on, this might be the place for you.

I really wanted to like this place. After passing this place everyday from my walk from the parking structure to class, I would glimpse past their chalk and blackboard menu, something I thought was so creative, and it definitely captured my attention, or at least in my own opinion. The first thing that caught my eye, and I wanted to try was the vanilla italian soda. Ever since seattle’s best stopped serving it I have yet to find a place that serves it justice, and I was hoping this would be the place. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out like that. So i headed over once class was out, and there was a lady already ahead of me, and it was obvious she knew the owner. So they started talking on the side of this little kiosk as I stood in front of the counter waiting to order, and obviously he didn’t see me. Now, I know I’m short, and could be legally considered a dwarf if I was two inches shorter, but I am not that short! Come on people! So I ordered, and as I ordered, he still was talking to the lady, some might argue it wasn’t rude, but I thought that, that was bad customer service. Only good thing so far was the price, $ 2.50 for an italian soda, not bad. I finally got it, put my own cream inside. Even though they have horrible service, I was pretty excited. But after taking one sip, boy, was I surely disappointed. All it tasted like was club soda, and we all know, club soda has no taste. If someone tried it, they would never have guessed it was vanilla, and it left you with this awful milk aftertaste. I barely finished it, and eventually it went to waste. I’m sorry Papa Lucks, I really tried to like you.

Another academic year approaches for some new bright-eyed, bushy-tailed college students so what better time than now to introduce you to Papa Lucks on the UH Manoa campus. They’re mainly known for their organic brewed coffee drinks but also offer some good grinds like fresh bagels, assorted baked bread, ciabatta sandwiches and my favorite, quiche! All great light, lunch treats. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed! Find them in front of Miller Hall and the art building. Perfect locale for grabbing something on your way to and fro class.

The BEST ciabatta sandwiches in town. I love the mozzarella, tomato, basil one with the balsamic.. . delicious! Now, they come toasted. So crunchy and melty and delicious!!! I could eat these sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don’t drink coffee, but they have some yummy tea concoctions that I enjoy. And yes, Papa Luck is very friendly.

Ah cute Papa Luck’s. Papa Luck’s became my go to for coffee since I was a sophomore. Gabe and his wife Stephanie are so cute and friendly. If you need a quick snack be it a sandwich, bagel, pound cake, chips, they have it. The coffee used to be cheaper and better, but it is still all in all ok, and it’s great to be able to just walk a couple steps outside the art dept in between my art history lectures and grab some caffeine and maybe a strawberry or blueberry bagel.

Are you a college student at the University of Hawaii? If you are, you probably have run into Papa Luck’s. If you haven’t, you’re missing out on part of the UH college experience. This little kiosk is run by Gabe Luck who is the grandson of Lucky Luck. I’m too young to know who this is, but Honolulu Weekly’s Pat Matsuda is quite fond of Lucky Luck( ). He’s a pretty nice guy, interested in knowing his customers and establishing regulars. Due to its proximity, you’ll find mostly hipster art and fashion students lined up for his sandwiches or coffee. The food is exactly how I rated it, A-OK. You’ll find really ciabatta sandwiches, bagels, a cooler full of can sodas and water, quiches, cup saimin, various snacks, and coffee. Just the essentials for a boost in the middle of a school day. My standard order is a bagel with pesto, a banana, and a can of v8. I cannot go through a semester without a bagel with pesto smothered all over it. Although this is fairly tasty, the main reason I go there is because of the experience. Gabe and the others that work there are friendly, the plastic dinosaurs and other toys emerging from the hedges are quirky, the hipster students are a daily fashion show, and you can find fliers for the latest happenings in the Honolulu scene. If you are a student, stop by. If you’re not a student, this is not a big deal to go out of your way for. 3 stars.
