Smokey’s Pipe and Coffee

In my quest to find the best expresso in Hawaii (having spent many years in Naples, Italy) I was in need of at least a decent cup of coffee. Was working in the University area and saw Smokeys, easy parking and in I went. Expresso per favore … Expecting the same, couple shots in a regular coffee cup as even our local 4 star Italian restaurants serve… was severed in an actual expresso cup, ummmmm, so added little latte, in po ’ di zucchero and WOW !!! Mama Mia !!! Yes !!! Thank you !!! In short … any ex-​Neapolitans, ex –pats, coffee lovers … Please give this please a try. They also serve food, hopefully I’ll have time to try sometime … Expresso itself guaranties a return trip. Bonus … staff friendly and fast !!! Something that just seems to be lacking lately at so many places … Aloha !!!

I’ve been here three times so far and let me just say that I have never been disappointed by the coffee or food! I received such great service by Mike and felt very welcomed but the last time I went in the customer service I got was terrible. The guy who had black hair and a beard seemed busy on the computer and rushed us in taking our order when my friend was unsure what he wanted. Despite that, I still tipped and he never once said thank you while we were there. He called our order and when my friend handed back the dishes to him when we were done he said nothing to acknowledged him. Didn’t even get a thank you back when we thanked him on the way out. Did you forget to drink your coffee that morning sir?
Food, coffee, and Mike (who I wish was there all the time lol) are great!
But to the fellow who helped us today Jan 3 2016 at 1030am, you could use some tips on how to treat your customers because I could have spent my money else where.

The staff is knowledgable and helpful! There are many choices and next time I’m trying the acai!
Today was the kava Krunch freeze and the rest of the party had a lava bowl and a Vanilla Smokeys Freeze. The Kava Crunch tastes like Captain Crunch Berry for those of you with impeccable taste!

Unfortunately one of my favorite places to get food has regressed as far as service goes since my last review. I think it may be time to have 2 workers working at the same time because on 3 different occasions, I came to order food and as I entered, more people entered. Instead of making my food first (being the first customer in) the cashier continued to take 5 more orders before making any of the food/​drinks. By the time they were done, I had waited 30+ minutes for 1 sandwich and 1 drink.
Another reason why I find it would be beneficial to add a second worker is that I make take-​out orders 80% of the time I order food, and I have been told I can’t make a take-​out order here given that there’s only one worker so if a customer walks in while they’re making the take-​out order, the customer inside would have to wait.
I really hope to see some improvements as I used to love grabbing food from here about 3x a week. Until then I will be taking a break from Smokey’s as my past visits have been sadly unsatisfactory.

Awesome! Their drinks tastes amazing! Probably a spot that I will be going to every time I am in town. I’ve ordered the Kavacinno (added some liquid sugar) and have tried the Hemp & Honey, and Smokey Freeze w/​chai. Loved them all & will definitely going back. The one thing that I have noticed was that one of the employees there took us a little too serious because we were new to the place and had kept asking questions, but we didn’t make much of a big deal about it. We smiled & kept our positive attitude… LOL –we say thank you but got no you’re welcomes & place wasn’t even busy. Another guy did come in later when we were just about finished, and he was very polite (maybe the manager)
Other than that, thumbs up for serving great stuff & beautiful pipes! I’ll be buying some for gifts since my husband doesn’t allow me to smoke

smokey’s… we cool?
I’ve been coming back here even after that one bad time because I really want to like this place. their chai is amazing and it’s a very nice place with a lot to offer.
the workers have definitely improved. I haven’t had bad service here since then. everyone is very friendly and they provide great product.
last visit here was on ¹⁰⁄₈ and a nice big guy helped us out. superrrr friendly. made us a delicious acai bowl and I left happy.
things seem to be improving so I definitely will be stopping by more :)

This place is chill and There’s free wifi! you get a free upgrade on any drink when checking in on Unilocal Kava drinks are bomb anyone try em all! Counter dude is helpful they got chill Stoney music vibes. Yeah come thru Smokeys pipe and coffe take care they got some nice comfy couches also come thru! #they think your Cool!

This place is AWEsome! Acai bowls are yummy, Kratom Rice Krispies… herb from Southeast Asia, kava, coffee, pipes, vaporizers… AND the employees are great! Gabe is super knowledgeable and great at customer service!

Healthy food and good coffee with plenty of seating. Id come here any day over Starbucks

The frappes here are so good! I love the veg out sandwiches, but it can be a hit or a miss depending on who makes it. I took off one star because even though it’s a chill place, it gets really hot because there is no ac!

Love the waffles! I rarely take trips into town but when I do I make it a point to stop by at Smokeys and order one of their waffles :)

I came here on blistering day as I waited for my moped to be finished across the street. The worker at the time was helpful and accommodating, recommending the Hemp ‘n’ Honey. It was delicious. They have a variety of smoking accessories for sale in glass displays along the wall. It’s a cute and chill place for anyone to grab a cup of coffee and relax for a bit.

This used to be the old Rainbow book store.
Now it is a small clean little shop.
We get to the counter– and the girl barely looks up and my friend orders 2 coffees. She just un-​tonally asks what size. Says the price and goes back to looking down at her phone. A little rude I thought but not overtly rude.
Then my friend asks about the beeswax wicking… Her total face lit up and she began explaining this and that about it. He then asked about the kava– and she jumped up to show him some packets they had to sell — and explained boiling it kills the flavor. Then said — it’ll e a little bit to wait for the coffee (correct she didn’t tell us that before now).
We sit and yes– we are louder than other patrons. We know we can be heard– but when we go back to the counter– she makes comments answering what we were talking about… in a friendly way.
Other just random comment– people wanted to talk story. People came up to us and talked about this or that– mostly they overheard us talking… but it is way different from my experiences at say Starbucks where IMHO anyone talking to one another is looked down on in the extreme sometimes.
Watching other patrons– some are buying smoke stuff and others are buying incense sticks.
I personally do not believe that smoking plants in addition to tobacco is healthy. I know others do and it is still in our courts/​justice/​legal systems… some states like Colorado are making it commercially legal– and places like Smokeys are poising themselves to be ready if and when our state and nation work on more of a progressive manner.

Stumbled into Smokey’s today after seeing their add for acai bowls. Since we live nearby, it would be nice to have a place around us to get acai bowls… So we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed!
Inside has a sleek blend of modern décor with earth tones. Walking up to the plate, there are many tasty choices to choose from. Give it your bar shot, everything we tried today was awesome.
We started with an acai bowl, but decided to get the gelato, bacon Belgian waffle and some coffee.
The acai bowl was great, I’ll definitely be back to get a healthy pick-​me-​up soon. It was fresh and well presented. But the gelato-​bacon-​maple syrup Belgian waffle was simply delicious. For the prices, it’s hard to compete with what you get at Smokey’s to other places in the area. It’s affordable and well made leaving you satisfied but not broke.
Parking in the day is easy, with lots of parking in the shopping center. During the dinner hours, it may be a little harder as you know from trying to get bubbies.

Smokey’s is the place to go if you want to get caffeinated and want it made by people who take a lot of pride in their work. I don’t get coffee anywhere else but this place.
There is a lounge that seats several people, a wide selection of glass pieces, papers, etc. Also if you’ve never tried Kava, this is the place to start (and end).

First time here today and I found a new, awesome coffee place!
Located real close to UH, Smokey’s is tucked away in this unassuming shopping center area. Once you walk in, there’s only two high tables, a couch, and a handful of nice big chairs, but that’s all you need. The staff were really friendly and got us going with our drinks. Also, as of today (March 8^th, 2015), if you check in, you get an upgrade to the next size up on your drink! I got a large iced tea for the price of a medium and it was lovely.
They serve their drinks in these big mugs and my friends and I camped out around the couch and big comfy chairs for a few hours working on our laptops and chatting. Free wifi for the entire time, so we went back and got more drinks/​food. My friend got the acai bowl and she loved it — it looked delicious.
There’s some local artist work on the walls and a great vibe in the place — despite the name and big selection of pipes behind the display case, it’s not necessarily «„„stonerville““». It’s pretty relaxed and a great place to come chat or study!
I’ll be back for sure.

On Friday and Saturday night Smokeys is the place to be! I know you’re probably thinking «why would I spend my Friday night in a coffee shop??» Well here is why, kava is awesome and it’s all you can drink for $ 12. I would so much rather spend my Friday and Saturday nights with a few friends drinking kava then at some bar you only enjoy when you’re already drunk.
If you’ve never had kava and want to try it I recommend going to smokeys, their staff is super knowledgeable and incredibly friendly. Everything is very clean and the glass displays are very well done. Every time I go in there for kava night I always end up buying incense, kava chocolate, vape juice or some cool thing they have going on!
I really enjoy going to smokeys for all you can drink kava, thank you smokeys for being so awesome!

I ordered a coconut flavored Kava drink, it was not very good. It has a bitter after taste, and makes you so sleepy, and I can’t even feel my tongue afterward. I am sticking with coffee next time!
