History

Established in 1981.

Body Mind & Soul’s beginnings were quite simple. .. a little store in Bellaire, founded in 1981 between friends with an interest in astrology and metaphysics. In 1988, the store moved to larger spaces in the Westheimer Oaks Shopping Village, in the Galleria area of Houston. Product lines were expanded from books to include music, body products, candles, gifts, and more. More importantly, our focus changed to center on products designed to make a positive difference in your life.

So what can you find at Body Mind & Soul? Whether you visit us in the material world or in cyberspace, you will find books, music, and gifts for the new age and beyond, including meditation and relaxation, candles, fountains, aromatherapy, chimes, body products, psychic phenomena, tarot, Wicca, astrology, Native American and world culture, Celtic music and lore, and Feng Shui.

Business Owner

Denise Certain-​Welling began her retail journey 30 years ago when her modeling contact sheet caught the eye of a senior head-​hunter for Clinique Cosmetics. Since then, she has worked her way up through the retail ranks for Clinique in tandem with finishing High School and pursuing her academic aspirations with honors at Steven F. Austin’s School of Retail Design & Business Marketing followed by acceptance into The University of Houston’s Graduate Program for Visual Merchandising.

It was there when she was presented a unique opportunity to by-​pass the lucrative fast-​track with Clinique and partner with an up-​n-​coming independent retail store in an un-​tapped niche market. A pivotal decision, Denise replaced two outgoing partners and joined Body Mind & Soul as co-​partner with her mother, Susan Certain.

In a few words body, mind and soul is awesome, I have been there a couple of times and they are always helpful, it can be a little pricey but everything is worth it. They have a good variety of jewelry, stones, books, sage, cards etc. As soon as you walk in you can feel the change in the atmosphere and it’s a good vibe. You can ask for Ms. Sandy she is really nice and helpful, always taking care of customers.

Loved the store. It’s next to my chiropractor’s office and one day I just stopped by. A lot of interesting things. Then I subscribed to their emails. They have quite interesting events every week. I attended two and was surprised how great they were. I was never into metaphysical things, but they got me interested.

Enlightenment is such a weird thing. Many of us once we start this journey try to seek out souls like us. This place can connect you with some great people.
I went here after searching Unilocal for metaphysical places. I had not found a place to get the items I needed since we left Dallas. The staff is pleasant but can be kind of stand offish. Its a weird vibe but not bad. Hard to explain. They have their usual visitors and being an outsider you can feel you need to break through to gain admittance into the club per se. I have been in here a few times and each time the same reaction.
They have everything you need such as stones, sage, gifts, incense, etc. The prices are a little pricey but it is good quality stuff. Also they have an awesome email newsletter and the classes they offer are awesome. I attended a crystal bowl meditation and past life regression class and it was awesome.
Most def would go back for the classes for sure but I would like more of that warm and welcoming feeling. I think it depends on who is working the register. The greeting sets the tone of the whole experience.

Been going to this store for well over a 2 years now, if not longer. I think it is the only true metaphysical conscious lifestyle store in the city since Metaphysical Matrix closed some years ago. The name fits the store. They have things for your mind, body and soul. Just pure wellness. I buy a variety of things from there and recommend everything, I know it sounds crazy but there is nothing I cannot recommend. They also offer services like readings through different people and monthly events. The book selection is extensive but there aren’t a lot of copies of every book so if you see it buy it because it can be gone. They have a small crystal selection but it is growing. I wish they sold many more cystals. The jewelry is an extensive selection. They also have clothes, novelty gifts, statues, singing bowls, incense, bath products, bags, and home/​office décor that ties into the store’s theme. The price is low to high depending on what you get. Many of the items have a thing where you buy and the proceeds help a charity which is cool too. The store has grown a lot since I’ve first gone there. I was told they had another location before somewhere else, yet I never been and didn’t know of the store then. This location seems to work well for them and it works well for me to because now I know they exist. The people there working are nice and friendly, you come there enough they will remember you. I have never received bad service there or seen anyone else get it either. People from all walks of life come into the store and for that moment in time (considering how Houston energy can be) everything in harmonious!
