Macario Ramirez owner of Casa Ramirez, started his business at the now defunct El Mercado del Sol in Houston’s East End. He developed a love of Mexico’s culture and craft work through his father Jesus Ramirez, who had a leather and jewelry shop at the Mercado in San Antonio. Ramirez credits his father as the inspiration for the store. The business has been located on West 19th St in the Historic Houston Heights since the early 1990’s.
