Excellent art gallery. I absolutely inspired and loved Gallery M Squared. Unicorn in one of best best areas of H Town
And it’s FREE!

This is a pretty cool gallery space that I was at for a wedding reception. I thought it worked quite well for such an event and the old projector when you walk in is really neat.

I recently visited Houston and was luck enough to be with a local who knew the good spots to go to. This is one of them if you are looking to see some unique art that isn’t as stuffy as a regular museum. The exhibit they had at the time was all about fabric and textiles and the guy working on setting up the show gave us enough space to enjoy the work but also some insider info on why each piece was awesome.

This review is for the Gallery M Squared as a wedding reception venue.
My husband and I were recently married in Jamaica and used this space as an «at home wedding reception/​party» venue. I mostly worked with Mike.
It was a very unique and intimate setup that was out of the norm for a party venue. They allow you to bring in your own caterers, bartenders, servers, entertainment, etc. Since the art gallery is actually the old Heights theater, It has a movie screen that allowed us to play videos from our wedding as well as other presentations we had.
The fee for the venue was very reasonable considering the prices that most reception venues in Houston charge these days and you are able to cut down on costs from being able to bring in your own vendors.
My guests loved the space and event. I would definitely recommend the place to others and encourage them to work with Mike. He gave us alot of ideas on setup and arrangements, which worked out perfectly.

This review is for Gallery M squared in the capacity as a venue for a wedding reception.
My friend and her husband wanted to do an «Old Hollywood» themed reception. Since this is an old theatre it worked out great and they have really lovely photos of them outside with their names on the kiosk.
The inside was partioned so that when you walked in you walked up a ramp to see a table with photos of the bride and groom and then there was a photo booth on the left. When you walked further in their was a stage behind you, a dance floor and tables in the center and sides of the space. The walls had the art from the current show and the back wall had tables for food as well as a large wall that could be utilized for a slide show.
It made for a very unique and intimate setting that matched the personality of the happy couple. It was great to be able to enjoy the art work on the walls.
The only thing that might be an issue is that it’s the heights and therefore parking is sometimes tough.
But a really great space for a great evening!

Best Art Gallery that happens to be in an old Movie Theater!
Sometimes the Medium is the Message when you’re Gallery M Squared and located in the historic Heights Theater. As you walk past one of the antique movie projectors, you go past what must of been the original lobby of the theater. It’s completely opened up into one gigantic room and yet you can still be close to the art which may be hanging on the actual wall of the theater or the many movable walls that change based on the nature of the exhibition or even suspended from the ceiling. There’s still a screen hanging on the back wall.
Much of the work here that I’ve experienced over the past couple of years tends towards edgy and culturally pertinent. Max and Mike, the owners, curate carefully the works of excellent artists with a good representation of local artists. Max knows art, history, and art theory. And it shows when he talks about what is on his walls.
My Tip for you: Like them on Facebook and try to make it out to the very enjoyable opening receptions.
My Tip x 2: Gallery M Squared can be rented as a very unique, event space.

I adore this place. This place has got to be one of my favorite places to go to enjoy and appreciate art in Houston.
+The gallery is located in a great neighborhood to walk around and explore.
+The gallery may be a bit small but you could literally spend hours here admiring the artwork.
+There isn’t an admission chrage.
+The owners are there to answer any questions you may have.
+The building itself is so rich in history.

Sucker for the vintage. Love the outdoor marquee and feel of the place. Fits in nicely with the neighborhood. Inside, the same feel. The vintage feeling but restored. The space is great with high cielings and a large open area. There is a huge projector screen, wood floors, and rafters on the ceiling. Great place to hold an event. I went for an art show but could easil be used for a wedding reception or party. Only thing that turned me off were the weird and kind of creepy decorations on the wall. Not sure if they were left over Halloween decorations or what but definitely did not go with the look and ambiance of the location.

Used Gallery M Squared for my wedding and reception. Good venue and they work with you to make sure the event runs smoothly. I would recommend the site to anyone looking to host an event.

Interesting art gallery doubling as a classical music venue with the visit of the Mercury Orchestra this week for a Vivaldi concert on period instruments. Probably the most intimate and engaging classical music performance I have ever seen due to the excellent talents of the players and the relatively small space (apparently appropriate since much of this music was composed for performances in drawing rooms rather than large concert halls). This allowed for the quiet and delicate passages to be played and heard with real verve and precision, without the amplification or forced projection that is required in a larger space like Jones Hall. The crescendos and high-​paced movements were also well served by the gallery space, with it difficult not to get caught up in the excitement that both the musicians and the conductor have for the music. The crowd was definitely appreciative.
Mercury will return twice more to M, once for Bach and another for Mozart. Highly recommended.

I was walking around 19^th street a few months ago by myself visiting vintage stores and I walked in this place… CREEPY!
I love art, I do, and I know how to appreciate it, really, but what a freaking scary place! I was the only one there and trust me when I say the art there is intense!
Try it if you’re into the dark arts! (haa! joking! :)

I’ve been to Gallery M Squared at least once every couple of months over the past two years. I love this gallery.
The art is always amazing. There are great artists that make really unique pieces. The owner, Max, is usually walking around and he’s a lot of fun to talk to. He’ll tell you all about the history of the gallery.
It may look closed on the outside sometimes. For the longest time I was intimidated and didn’t go inside. Once I realized they were actually open 10 – 6 I was so happy to just pop in while I was out shopping.
I just moved from Houston to Austin and I can honestly say that Gallery M is going to be one of the things I miss the most. Do yourself a favor, subscribe to them on Facebook or something and pay attention to all the different shows they have. You will NOT regret it.

This place is spectacular — has some incredibly intense visual exhibits. I’m thankful for Gallery M Squared and what they are doing in my city and in the Heights. Keep it up and thank you!

I LOVE this place! When looking for a wedding venue I wanted something «different.» I didn’t exactly know what that meant, but I knew I found it the second we walked into Gallery M Squared (the Heights Theater). From the amazing marquee and beautiful sculptures to the helpful guys inside! Even though the wedding is 10 months away I know the ambiance will be perfect!

Did 2 events there-​A sweet sixteen and a wedding… both were great! love the art, place is really cool to decorate in and the owners are very friendly!!!

Kind guys running the place, great art throughout, and a gorgeous space. Available for event rental at reasonable rates too!

One word… amazing

I am literally in love with Gallery M Squared, and not just because one of my art pieces is hanging on their walls. The relaxed fun feeling you get when you walk through those red doors is intoxicating. Can’t thank Emily Sloan and Max Harrison enough for the chance of a lifetime. I will forever be in love with Gallery M and The Heights Area.

We have been frequent visitors to the gallery for about 3 ½ years now. First — we LOVE the new location in the Heights Theatre building. So much personality!
We check out as many of the exhibits as we can. They aren’t always my «thing» but it’s always very interesting. In addition to the art, we’ve attended several social events and are continualy amazed at how the venue can be transformed from art gallery to a private intimate party atmosphere. All of this brings me to the point of this review. I became engaged in August of last year and the one and only venue we discussed for the wedding was the gallery. Nothing else was ever discussed. It was an excellent choice on our part.
Max and Michael helped us out every step of the way by answering questions, offering input and even helping to iron our a few kinks with our vendors. When the night of our wedding/​reception arrived — just this past weekend — we couldn’t have been any happier. We can’t think of one detail that was overlooked right down to our names up in lights on the marquee. Our guests raved on and on about how fantastic everything was and what a cool idea we had for having our wedding and reception there.
If we had it to do all over again — we wouldn’t change a thing. I wish there were more stars to give!!!

Contemporary art is cool. Seeing beautiful, cool, scary, sexy, creative art by people in your own generation is cool. Places like this, that promote that and make it happen, are cool. It’s art that you can relate to, in an atmosphere where you can engage. It’s not sterile and stuffy like most galleries, where you’re kept away from the art and are expected to revere it in quiet gratitude.
I’m thankful that this place is helping keep Houston relevant, and push it forward culturally.

My ABSOLUTE favorite art gallery that I went to along my tour of Houston galleries. It has left it’s original location and moved a few doors down to what looks like an old movie theatre.
The venue is HUGE. When you walk in there is a giant film projector and there are paintings up above you. Every aspect of this gallery is a piece of art from the walls, to the floors, all the way to the ceilling. Things come out at you, sit above you, stare at you, point at you. Every time I turned it was something else that I hadn’t noticed earlier.
The curator is Max and was the only one who even actually took the time to come up and talk to us. I mean the other curators said hi, looked at us and figured they wouldn’t bother wasting their time. Max on the other hand wasn’t concerned that it was 2 20 year olds coming in probably not going to buy anything; he treated us like any other potential customer.
I guess this is why I saw so many red dots. The prices were marked to sale. Half of the exhibit was already sold by the time we got there. This was the most affordable pieces I had seen all day. Most of the pieces were around 300 – 800 which is much less than the general 1500+ that I had seen most of the day.
I actually got talking with him and hopefully my girlfriend might be able to have a show here.

Gallery M Squared is a great addition to 19^th Street in the Heights! It is a great way to support the community and artists with an opportunity for their work to be seen and purchased.
I love going into the gallery and looking at the art. The gallery offers very interesting mixed media art. The gallery is small and intimate so there is no chance of missing any of the works of art. The music and lighting is mellow which makes for a good vibe as you walk around.
When you go into the gallery make sure to take in everything, you will be surprised by what you see. Not only is there art in front of you but make sure to look up and you might see a popped kernal of popcorn hanging from the ceiling, 3 people on the wall in various states of decomposition and all sorts of interesting art.
The gallery isn’t just for artist’s exhibits but is also available for public and private functions.
