Incredibly good. The items on the buffet include your staple Chinese entrees like general tso, spicy schezwan chicken, pan fried dumplings and beef and broccoli, which are all hot and fresh. They however also include strange local items, which have become pretty common place in Houston, such as quesadillas, pizza and chicken wings. I will say, while oddly placed, they were also tasty. While I have not rated this place before, this is not my first visit, and I will say there has been a marked increase in the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Took one star off because there is some room for improvement, but hungry patrons will not leave unsatisfied!

This buffet was pretty average. The food was average and the service was average which made my tip average.

Still as good as always. The difference between this and other buffets is the cleanliness of the restaurant, the friendly staff and most importantly the great food.

Came here with family and were sat pretty quickly. We did see a couple of people waiting to be sat while there seemed to be plenty of empty tables but hopefully that’s not a common practice. There are a lot of options to choose from in the properly stocked buffet lines. The hibachi variety is also great. I only wish they had more seafood, but other than that it was overall enjoyable.

After reading the critical reviews of some of the diners that found this restaurant, it’s food, and it’s service, all severely wanting, I did not expect to have a very good experience. You might rightfully wonder why I would decide to eat here if my expectations were so lagging. First off, one of those that I was dining with had scheduled an appointment to take place here and secondly, I was suspicious of the large disparity between the restaurant’s ratings. We went for lunch on a Sunday and were there at opening time. The place was clean and the atmosphere was friendly. There was a good variety of salads, sushi, entrees and desserts along with the freshly grilled hibachi choices. I tried the sushi, cucumber salad, egg rolls, general Tso’s Chicken, and various vegetables and other appetizers. All were excellent but the egg rolls were particularly good and I really liked the cucumber salad. The place filled quickly but the food service well kept up with demand. I’m quite certain that the degree of satisfaction with this type of restaurant has much to do with the time of the visit. My experience, at the beginning of the lunch period, was a good one.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. This is no exaggeration. I can only designate one«worst» and there is no other more worthy of this distinction. Upon arriving, the rancid smell was overwhelming. While this claims to be a Chinese buffet, there wasn’t actually anything Chinese on the buffet. Everything was really really bad. Everything. The bathrooms were unclean and smelled almost as bad as the buffet itself. The waitstaff were useless, but it’s a buffet. So, that’s normal. I stopped here only because I am not from Houston and was starving after driving from Tampa. I am lucky I didn’t get sick from the food, but I strategically chose only to eat the safest things I could find. Never again. There is a Whataburger across the street. For the love of God, go to the Whataburger.

Had yet another excellent meal at this place, with two caveats. The fried calamari was way too salty. The crawfish was too salty and not fresh. That’s why I knocked a star off. On the plus side, the clams and mussels were cleansed thoroughly of grit, which somewhat evened the score.

One of the worst buffets I’ve experienced. The dining area smells like feet, which is extremely off putting when you are trying to dine. The buffet area has the usual rows: fried/american food, fried rice/kung pao chicken/fruit/salad/soup. In addition they have a sushi area, a habachi area, and a dim sum area. The sushi is not chilled, but placed under a warm light which is not good especially for the sashimi, the raw salmon, etc. Everything basically tasted like it had been reheated several times, losing the flavor it was originally supposed to have. Either it ranged from bland or dried from being left out for too long. I was weary to even try the raw shrimp and oysters. You’d be better off going somewhere else.

Not sure what Chef S. is really talking about. I just recently moved to the area and have been to this restaurant twice now. One time was on a Saturday evening and the other on a Tuesday evening. As someone who’s worked in a buffet restaurant I can speak from experience as to how fresh the food usually is on a weekend compared to a weekday. Typically the food is less fresh on slower days of the week and Tuesday is typically the slowest day in any restaurant. China Star bucked that trend. The General Tso’s Chicken, egg rolls, and spicy shrimp were probably better tasting on Tuesday evening and the restaurant was pretty packed both times. That has to speak to the quality and quantity of items offered. They also have blue bell ice cream which may not be very authentically Chinese, but is a huge plus in my book. Chef S. refers specifically to the fact that they play Sunny 99.1 and converter box television. Not sure how relevant that information is. What is relevant is that the quality of the food and the quality of the service are much better than he gives them credit for.

For what you get China Star is great. The wait staff is friendly. I don’t know what the above user is talking about in some of the comments. If you’re not a food snob you may like the variety of food they offer. If you go when they are busy, the food is hot and often refreshed. There is plenty of parking. This restaurant is not at all overpriced because of loud techno music or dark lighting inside the restaurant. I enjoy being able to see what I’m eating* The manager, Amanda is often seen out on the floor refreshing drinks and interacting with customers.

Attention Do not confuse this place with the one across the freeway, it has the same logo but not the same owners. My first impression of this place was cool, a new buffet, upon entering the place kinded reminded me of V Star across the freeway with less techno music, instead it was on Sunny 99.1 and the TV were on Convertor box tv. Anyways, it was pretty nice place. The employees were dress the same as Vstar, I think they are trying to confuse people so that they get business. First thing first, crawfish. If you go to a buffet you should know, always go for the most expensive food first so you get your money worth. Guess what, it doesnt matter how much you eat, its not worth it. The crawfish tasted like it was precooked and now heated with crawfish boiled, old dead crawfish and very watery no flavo r at all. Majority of it was cold. So moving on, next course, soup. Umm, the wontons are premade and frozen thats why it falls apart and are stiff, he Thai Soup, holy @!?;, its filled with gulf shrimp but not really Thai Soup more like the Thai Tom Yumwith no seasoning, The egg drop had no flavor, watered down eggs. The hot and souas hot, it was sour, but not your normal hot and sour. Next course sushi, umm, its sticky rice not hard Spanish rice Emril Lagasse. Bam Bam, Whack!!! Also, wear some gloves, I saw you scratching your ass. EWWW!!! Next course rice, with Kung Pao Chicken, wait food contamnation, why is there shrimp in the Kung Pao chicken, talk about food allergies warning. No peanuts though, taste as worse as it sounds. The mushroom I also got, umm cold and flavorless, no saesoning or coating of flavor, nasty, add cornstrach to that please idiot. So I given up, no more Asian food in this place, guess what, no surprise to me but looky, Menudo, quesidillas, and enchiladas. Mmmmm! Jose can actually cooked Mexican food. As for everything, Chef Mike(Microwave) aldo seems to work here. As for the service, you would have better luck at a taco trailer. My drinks were never sent out to me until I finished my first course. On my refill I got some nasty Ass sweet Tea, I order Regular dude. This is the first time, I never tip in my life, I usually tip 20%, if its bad maybe 10%, but I have nevet walked out not tipping and this was a first. I am telling you Unilocal Readers, do yourself, your wallet and your stomach a favor, go across the freeway and eat there, its worth the wait. Do not come to this one at Home Depot shopping complex. Unless, you dont believe me waste your money and come try yourself. PROS: Habachi Grill is hot food, Ice Cream is Blue Bunny, everything else is package food that Chef Mike heats up, so cant fravk up the seasoning. CONS: Cold food, bad service, package food, not fresh, Chinese Buffet but all Latino workers. NOTE: This is the same China Star that was at Almeda in front of Walmart that shut down because of horrible food. Eat to live, not live to eat. CHEFSAKI
