This is a fun place. Good food, great patio, good wait staff and good food/menu. It’s open late night/early morning… Check this one out :-)

We went recently and noticed a weird smell in the entry way. Food was good though. Still had a hard time about what smell was.

Great location and convenient parking. There’s an interesting smell when entering that I can’t place my finger on to identify. Although the ambience could use some updating, the food was surprisingly good as satisfying.

It’s reaching 3am and Mai’s is fully packed with a line wrapped around the building. What do you do… do you go home and just pout because you don’t get the food you were dreaming about. Well that’s what I thought but lucky for me a person in my group said let’s go to Hollywood. I had never even heard of this place before. We arrived and we were the only group there. Lucky us! The food came out hot and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Their wasn’t any parking issues because we were the only ones there. The service was great especially when you are dealing with talkative drunks with picky eating habits. I will definitely return to Hollywood for sure.

Had been going here for years for the good food and fun wait staff. Love the carousel of spices and hot sauce. Food has always been good. Something has recently changed. Last two times I visited, I ended up with cold food. To fix it, they microwaved my dinner. Microwave. My check was $ 14, the waitress asked to keep the change from my $ 20. $ 6 tip? A 44% tip on a cold batch of fried rice, cold cup of hot soup, and being told to «just stir it up»? Really? And all the friendly staff that would come visit your table are gone. New staff seems moderately interested in your well being — if you wave them down like a plane passing over shipwreck victims stranded on a desert island.

This will be a short and sweet review. Great late night spot after bars/clubs. There’s never a long wait(at least not in my experience.) Food is pretty decent. Service is not shabby. Like David N. had said, cheaper and better than Mai’s. Not on par with Vietnamese restaurants that you’d find in Chinatown, but good enough.

This is a great place to start off the night on the weekend since happy hr goes on to 9pm! Service is better in the bar area. Waitstaff on the main floor has no clue what’s going on. Careful when adding tips to the total check, some waitstaff will add extra to the check, pay cash! Black Pepper Lemon Chicken is awesome! Great portion for 2 ppl.

Really disappointed, after being seated… we waited 30+ mins for our waiter. Decided to go elsewhere. Probably never returning.

This place is incredibly good. By far my favorite place to get soup, The environment is perfect with great service. Although it’s very expensive. Defiantly worth a try. Do recommend it. Great phở. Great for nightlife.

Opens late, service was swift and to the point. Eggrolls are actually really good, but everything is sort of overpriced. The ceiling is really disgusting with huge brown stains all over. The lack of cleanliness and care taken to the restaurant concerns me as I assume that this is probably the attitude they have towards how they handle their food.

This is why you go to Hollywood: You’re in the neighborhood(I used to live just across the street), it’s late, you may or may not be too drunk(and you want to eat before making sure you are), you want some tasty char-grilled pork in your belly. Get the spring rolls and the noodles with the pork on them(or the ones with the pork and eggrolls mix if you want something greasy) and you will be happy. Expecting a gourmet experience with excellent customer service is out of the question. There’s always good people-watching opportunities, and it can be loud on Sunday nights so be warned.

Went with a friend who has no desire for any food that is not american. He wanted to order off the kids menu and they would not let him even when he offered to pay more for the dish and still they would not allow him. So we left and didnt eat at all. Ive had some good meals here, but that really showed the management and poor service to be accomodating.

I like restaurants with booths and good people watching and this fit the bill. It’s a good restaurant if you are three sheets to the wind(ie. drunk) or if you meet and eat with friends before clubbing in the area but as its not for foodies, the food quality is not a priority, folks. You’re here to see and be seen and you pay for it. I opted for the Chinese rather than Vietnamese option although the Chinese is more expensive because nobody can beat Mai’s in midtown for Fresh, flavorful Vietnamese at a great price. The problem with Hollywood Vietnamese is not the ooh la la of the wonderfully cosmopolitan diners or the friendly staff but the QUALITY is LACKING to put it politely. The chicken dishes always use chicken so elderly and chewy that you spend 20 mins gouging fibrous chicken out of your gums with a toothpick after each meal. Last time, I couldn’t even get the knife through the rubbery chicken. Pants Poor! I asked for a glass of German Riesling and wound up with a amber concoction which was more like cheap vin santo. Just dreadful and the price for regular Chinese food is markedly high even if you don’t factor in the chickens must cost pennies given they are guaranteed to be older than you are. We tend to eat here on those few nights that we have forgotten how horrific the food is and so I write this to remind myself to go people watching elsewhere and save myself a fortune in toothpicks.

I’m giving Hollywood Vietnamese 4 stars because they have good food, good portions, good prices, and clean environment. I love that they’re open so late, and that’s the main reason I go here. I don’t think I’d go during the day. The outside lights screams«Cheap Strip Club» and that’s what I thought this place was before I actually paid attention to the sign and realized it was a restaurant. It’s right off of Montrose, in front of a gay bar, so the late night crowd is quite an interesting sight. If you enjoy people watching, this place is fun to visit. I am disappointed that they close the outdoor patio so early. It was calling my name the other day but the waiter said it’s closed at night. I get the chicken Phở and I love their Vietnamese eggrolls. The eggrolls are large, and super greasy — but that makes a great late night treat. The menu is huge, and it can take a while just to read through it. They serve Vietnamese and Chinese food, which is the first time I’ve seen them served together. Prices are reasonable, too. The staff is always helpful, but on my first visit, I seriously wondered if our waiter was old enough to be working there, he looked like 12 years old. But he was attentive so I didn’t pay any more attention to it.

I went here on New Year’s eve with a friend of mine and her 2 year old. The waiter asked how we were doing and after bringing the food totally ignored the baby. Didn’t ask what she needed at all. I know it was 8pm, but you guys only had one packet of sauce left? I forgot what kind it was, not soy, the golden colored one. The prices were a little higher than other Vietnamese places around town like say, the ones in Midtown, but you’re paying to eat in Montrose and they ARE open late. My food came out first. I ordered the seafood phở and there wasn’t much seafood in it. What was in it was a hair near the rim of the bowl. I tell the waiter and decide to order another soup of the same price. I dig into it and after about 5 bites I see a hair AGAIN. This time actually IN the soup. I call the waiter over again. Some lady, I’m assuming a manager, comes over and apologizes her ass off. Another soup is brought out and it was hairless. What they should’ve done was given it to us for free. The thought didn’t come to me until this afternoon. Not once did the waiter ask if the baby was okay or if her drink needed to be refilled. And they let our dirty dishes pile up. It wasn’t until we were done eating that they took any dirty dishes away. The food itself was good. Great soup, great tofu, all delicious. But everything else needs vast improvement.

I have past this place a lot(when I was living near the medical center), but never stepped foot in this joint until after I’ve moved. My buddy that brought me here tells me it’s a decent place especially after a night of drinking. Well… we were sober when we walked in here so it would be a «first» experience for the both of us. Since I wasn’t sure what to eat, I just ordered whatever my buddy ordered. We both had grilled pork with fried rice and an egg roll. Nothing special about it… it tastes like your typical vietnamese restaurant in Bellaire. Overall, it was a decent meal for the price(I think it was $ 8). I can see how this place is great when you’re drunk.

Good Vietnamese food to go! Prices are pretty descent, which is nice. We had a taste for some Vietnamese food and everything was packed very well for transport.

I do not understand how this place has any stars at all. The only reason I went there is because after a concert at Toyota Center, we couldn’t find anything open on that side of town(Mai’s doesn’t open on Sundays). I looked up Vietnamese and this place came up. It was late and I was starving! When we pulled up the first thing I saw as a bunch of drunk people walking around the lot, no spots open at all. We got lucky and eventually found a parking spot. As my friend B and I walked in, we thought we had walked into a club. it was just a bar with really loud music and I must admit I was confused. I eventually saw the hostess and we walked to the back, where the restaurant part of it actually is. The restaurant was almost empty but for two or three tables ordering phở. We were seated and waited almost 10 mins for our server to show up. He eventually showed up and we ordered our phở. Once we placed our orders I left B and went to the restroom. I do wish I would have spared myself from what I saw. I was disgusted with the bathroom. It was a mess, the toilets were not flushed and I saw the most disgusting things in there. I was unable to use it and just ran off. By that time I started doubting if I wanted to eat there or not, and then the most disgusting thing of all happened. We were served our Phở and I started eating when suddenly I saw a black thing in my soup that just didn’t belong there. When I fished it out with my spoon it turned out to be a small roach, YESPEOPLE… an insect. the most disgusting one there is. At that point we were waiting for two other friends to meet us there and since they were on their way in, we just waited. I didn’t even bother telling our server why we didn’t finished our meal since he didn’t seem too concerned. We paid and left to never return, EVER. I will NEVER go to this establishment again. I am disgusted in so many ways I can’t even explain. If you ate there 09÷02÷12 at around 11pm, your phở was cooked with roaches and I just happened to find a small one. I wish I could give them no stars at all, I don’t understand how they pass inspection… I have posted a picture of the intruder in my soup, in case you want to see its corpse.

Not impressed. I am surprised that this place was so busy when there are so many other better Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants within a 5 minute drive of Hollywood Vietnamese. Ugh. The interior décor is cheesy and dark. We actually had a pink paper lantern hanging above our table. Even the waiter hit his head on it. Ugh. The tofu spring rolls were dry and tasteless. The peanut sauce was too light and not rich enough. It was strange. The Vietnamese egg rolls were pretty good. They were the only things I’d order there again. The crab puffs were blah and not horrible and not good. Ugh. The orange chicken was covered in a sauce that was so dark, another diner at our table asked if it was bbq sauce. It was just sickly. Ugh. And the last straw was that they only serve Pepsi. Hello… we live in Texas and we serve Coke here. Ugh. I won’t be back.

Came here from a late night of drinking and tummy rumblings… So, my friends and I had to try this place out. The wait staff was friendly and food was good(but maybe it was good because I was really hungry or buzz)…hehe. I had the fried flat noodles with veggies, my friend had fried rice, and another one had beef tips with fried rice. Plus, the appetizer was the Vietnamese spring roll. Of course I didn’t have any but my dish wasn’t too bad. Alittle on the salty side but it was good. Will I come here again– maybe if my gf suggested it again. Hehe…
