Love this place! Everyone I’ve met there has been super helpful! They all helped me with choosing a yarn for my wedding dress and getting the amount I needed, ordered. They have a nice variety of yarn and accessories, and a cozy environment to sit down and get to know other yarn artists. I will continue to go to Knitting in the Loop until I can’t anymore! :)

Went to shop March 5 with a scarf that I’d learned to make from YouTube but could not figure out how to finish. I had purchased nothing from them. They could not have been more helpful and friendly. Took the time to sit down and show me how to «bind off». Offered to pay for the help– they would not charge me. Will return!

Not sure what yarn shop some of the other reviewers went into, but their experiences couldn’t be more different than mine! I’ve been crafting for over 10 years but I’m very, very new to knitting, and within 45 seconds of walking in the door one of the ladies working had greeted me and was giving me a tour of the shop, and helpfully explaining some of the different brands and local options. After browsing on my own for a while I kept thinking I was about to be in somebody’s way, because various groups of people were occupying the gathering spaces in the shop, but everyone was incredibly, wonderfully friendly and offered lots of great advice (WITHOUT getting overbearing, which is rare). I’m still not entirely clear on exactly how many people were staff as opposed to just regulars, but Angie, who helped me at checkout, was sweet enough to show me how to work the shop’s ball winder and give me all sorts of great information while doing so. Also, another thing I feel is worth pointing out – the woman who originally greeted me and showed me around came over while I was browsing to point out something about a yarn I was looking at, and when I asked a question about the weight of it she basically read my mind, because she answered by asking if I was thinking about a specific pattern, then pulled it up on her tablet on Ravelry right there and then pointed me in the direction of some helpful youtube videos for instruction on one of the techniques called for in the pattern. Soooo amazingly helpful! I will definitely be back for supplies, advice and classes! If you’re a new knitter this is definitely a great place to get started!

Knitting in the Loop is my favorite place in Houston! I’m sorry to read the few reviews of customers who had less than a perfect experience. I encourage them to give it another chance. The yarn supply is currently a little lower than normal because they are waiting on the new year orders to arrive.
The employees and knitters at KITL are some of the most wonderful, kind and amazing women that I have ever had the pleasure to know. They have been very supportive of me during some tough times recently and I can never adequately repay their kindness and care.
As far as price range goes, it’s not Hobby Lobby. They sell quality products at a very fair price. Many of their yarns are from local sources (not China like HL). The prices for classes are very reasonable and they have lots of free knit alongs. There is something for everyone.
If you want to learn a new skill, have a place to unwind, and make some great friends KITL is for you. I hope to see you there!

I’m just starting out learning how to knit and Knitting in the Loop was very helpful. I took a lesson from Sharon and am on my way.
Like anything else, you can’t be afraid to ask for help — I told them I didn’t know anything and needed any help they could give and they were more than helpful.
Another hobby on its way — my wife is very amused at this latest one.

Stumbled into Knitting in the Loop after I decided to get back into fiber arts and wanted to check out what Houston had to offer. I’m from Tulsa where there is an incredible yarn shop called Loops and since Houston is so much larger than Tulsa I was expecting bigger and better things. Oddly enough, Loops is still better than anything in Houston but I do love Knitting in the Loop. The staff are amazing and get five stars, hands down, and Angie is the reason I will continue to return to shop and knit.
My only issue is that I miss the variety of fun and unique yarns I found in Tulsa. Knitting in the loop has so much space to work with but the yarn selection is conservative and a lot more limited than I would have thought. It just kind of looks like part of the store is missing as far as yarn stock. I would love to see more unique hand dyed local yarns like Vice and Madeline Tosh and just more variety with colors and brands in general. Hopefully that will change, but regardless, I will definitely be a long term customer and recommend the shop to anyone passing through or who is a Houston resident. I am shocked that there are so few yarn stores in Houston! Yarn enthusiast, someone open another one!

The first couple of times I went to this store (starting about a year ago), I wasn’t particularly feeling the warm and fuzzy love. This could be because I taught myself to crochet and admitted my fiber art was crochet, or maybe because I had a (fairly loud) small child in tow. In any case, the first couple times I went by they seemed pretty snobby there, and I was kind of put off.
However… there was a particular type of crochet hook they carry that I needed one of, and I eventually went back… and had a MUCH BETTER experience.
Now I pop in fairly regularly to have a look at what they have and squish some yarn. I have stopped admitting that I crochet (instead of knitting), not sure if that has anything to do with the change or not.
They do carry some nice yarns from local Indie dyers (I am thinking of Inner Loop Dyeworks yarn) that is really special, and they also carry the typical Debbi Bliss, Noro, Malabrigo, Rowan that you would typically expect a nicer yarn shop to have. I wish they had a bit more hand-​dyed and handspun stuff, but I guess most local yarn stores don’t, to be honest.
The selection of needles, hooks, and notions is nice (though not perfect) and they do have some books (mostly knitting, but some crochet and other). I have never attended any of their classes, but have seen them in session, and everyone seems to be having a good time.
In general, Knitting In The Loop has become my favorite local yarn store. It isn’t perfect, but is currently my best option, and isn’t terrible either.
Special note: the hours are better than some other yarn stores. Particularly nice is that they open at 9 on Saturday… which is cool because they are only about a block or so from the Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market. This means I can knock out two things at once on a Saturday morning. BONUS!

I couldn’t agree more with the poor reviews. I’m relatively new to knitting, and made a trip into town to check out what I thought would be a friendly experience in a wonderful store. After all, I’ve been to other knit shops where the employees (and owners!) have been willing to sit with me and help pick out approachable, satisfying projects. The woman whom I presume was the owner wouldn’t give me the time of day. There weren’t even that many other customers in the shop. Finally an employee took pity on me, I suppose, and we talked about projects that were at my level of knitting. I don’t ask for much — just a little guidance — and it was hard to get even that at this shop. I won’t be back, I have far better choices closer to home.

Great place to come sit and knit. I found this shop soon after moving down to Houston from a much colder climate. On first inspection the yarns are basic quality brands nothing spectacular. What is spectacular are the people. Everyone is so friendly and helpful not only with the fiber arts but with local life. Sit and Knit on thursday nights are always friendly and warm. They have such a great place to just sit and knit any day and I know may people who do. If you want some specially yarns like habu buy it online than come in to sit and knit.

Love, love, love this place. Was on a business trip from Chicago and decided to stop in. The ladies were having a knit along in the front of the shop, but two ladies who worked there stood up and greeted me. They walked me around the shop and were very helpful. I think I spent an entire paycheck. Highly recommended. Great selection of yarn. Thumbs up :)

The owner, Judy, is not just a business woman and fiber fan but really believes an lys should support its community. The yarn here is beautiful and the cottage store echoes the rich heritage crafts which are supported inside. I haven’t taken any of the wide range of classes but the staff are very knowledgable, friendly and efficient. They are sometimes really busy and I have even seen them wind yarn not purchased in their store for nothing more than a charitable donation. And so occasionally you may have to wait to be seen but this occurs in any popular retail store.
Knit nights are so popular, many come in to knit even outside knit night hours and not a brow is raised. There is real community here and so don’t run away if you see a knitting group chatting on the comfy sofas, go say hello. They always like to know what you are making or might be shopping for.
Yarn range has radically improved lately. Prices are good. though i have found needles a buck or two cheaper in yarn stores outside the loop. However, this store is central, is not in a soulless stripmall and their sales are simply unsurpassed. I have snapped up sought after merino for 75% off in the past. Well, worth a visit!
The store gives discounts to Knit At Night Guild cardholders.
This would get 6 stars if I lived next door to it.

I love this shop. It is a very homey cottage, with a beautiful selection of yarns. If they don’t have what you are looking for, they can order it. I am very impressed with the staff — there are always at least two people there, and everyone is always VERY helpful — not pushy, but friendly and knowledgeable. They have a comfortable area for people to just sit and knit, which I do often! They have an extensive selection of classes, and are happy to give you private lessons as well. Great selection of needles, notions, bags, accessories, books. There are some bad reviews here but honestly I have never seen any bad service here, and I urge you to give it a try. This is my home away from home.

These have to be the RUDEST shop owners/​employees in Houston! Have been in the store three times and each time I feel as though I am inconveniencing them by trying to leave them $$. They even refused to wind some yarn that I purchased in their store when I had my daughter take it back only a week later. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! According to others who have experienced the same kind of treatment, Sugarland Yarn Company (59 at First Colony) and Yarntopia (I-​10 and Mason) are well worth the drive for much better treatment.

I went back to get my yarn wrapped into a ball like they sggested the busy weekend before. I got some pretty interesting looks from the staff there and wondered if I’d walked in on them during there closing up, but no more than thirty minutes to go. I really like the yarn and the convenience but I’m not sure its worth the unease I feel around some of the staff.

I just taught myself to knit this year and finally felt comfortable enough to do a project with some GOOD yarn (i.e. not whatever Michael’s has) so I went to KitL. I don’t know if some of the other reviewers went on a bad day or something but when I went it was full of people very eager to help me but nobody was too pushy. One older employee asked me, «Are ya happy? If not, let me help make you happy!» as I was browsing around which I thought was silly. I was definitely intimidated by the circle of older ladies sitting around *expertly* knitting but no one was unfriendly. There were also TONS of books and lots of them were geared towards beginners like me so as it stands I had no issue with KitL and loved the coziness of it (it’s housed in a 1930s era house that’s just beautiful)!! I’ll definitely be going back.

I normally buy my yarn online but this time I was looking for a quick fix on some yarn and I found this place online. It is so cozy inside I just can’t wait to bring my knitting and sit and chat with the regulars. They are always so helpful with helping pick out suitable yarn and needles and they have a pretty decent range of yarns available from classic and basic to super luxury yarn. Whatever they don’t have they can probably order. My only wish is that I had a bigger yarn budget to build up my stash.

Another update — they got so much yarn they had to move. But they moved next door. So now they’re the gray house just next to their original location. Bigger — more yarn — more space to browse and sit and socialize.

With the closure of Yarns 2 Ewe, I was a knitter without an LYS. I buy a lot of yarn online from small indie dyers, but it’s always nice to support a brick and mortar store and have a place to go when you just want to squish some yarn in person. Unfortunately, I’m not sure Knitting in the Loop will fill that niche for me. I was disappointed in the narrow range of their offerings– sure, there is a large quantity of yarn, but upon closer inspection it seems like they carry several lines from a few different companies but not much else of interest. There’s depth, but not breadth. I noticed a lot of Classic Elite, Araucania, Blue Sky Alpacas, Noro… nice yarns, and great if that’s what you’re looking for, but really nothing that made me go, «Ooh, haven’t seen this before!»
I’d like to see a better selection of fingering and laceweight yarns, too.
On the positive side, the store is very cozy and visually appealing and they did look to have a nice selection of books, needles, and notions, so I’m sure I’ll be back for those things at some point.

What have I been searching for since I landed in Houston you ask? Why a friendly, cozy, yarn shop to linger in, with sofas and friendly people of course! I felt so welcome when I entered the historic house turned yarn shop I almost expected to smell a roast in the oven. (Sorry, carnivores, no actual food here… but come on, mixing yarn with food is gross. Unless it’s your yarn and your food, but I digress as usual.) They had a large selection, complete with sale items including some Schaefer yarn I had previously fallen in love with in Santa Monica. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful and I am in love. Just go.
