Specialties

We are a creative reuse center, specializing in cool stuff for creative reuse! We accept clean, reusable art and craft materials from Houston’s businesses and indiiduals and make them available for purchase by people who are looking for items with a little more character than you might be able to find in your average art or craft supply store.

We are also a great place to try out something new without spending a fortune. We get great supplies of brand new materials (like yarn and needlework tools, stencils, scrapbooking paper, stickers) plus plenty of gently used supplies that haven’t yet given all that they can give — used canvases, paint brushes, partial bottles of paint, and fabric scraps. We’ve also got lots of great vintage books, the occasional antique, awesome ephemera and doll parts galore. Plus more!

As a for-​profit social enterprise, we are proud that we have diverted more than 150 tons (tons!) of reusable materials from Houston’s landfills so far!

History

Established in 2010.

Well, we had this crazy idea that there was a lot of cool stuff being thrown away in a big ol’ city like Houston. And, we thought there were a lot of people who wanted a crack at all of that cool stuff, so we sort of put the word out that we were thinking about opening a creative reuse center, and BOOM! The people and businesses of Houston responded!

It’s a pretty good place for people who doing a different art things. I like to make fun gifts for my friends by my hands. There are many different stones, toys and other things in the shop. I made a nice pendant for my mother and aunt with the help of them.
There are also many antiques, I think it to buy here with a big demand. It’s nice and very useful place! I need these guys will be doing a good job a long time.

lil’ trek to find it hidden away… so excited to enter … but kinda let down. Thought prices were out of whack. I wuv unique things and I give the team (that was hidden in the back room and never came out) credit (A++) for organizing junk/​stuff into logical groups. but just because one can color and group coordinate, doesn’t mean it’s worth more… (I won’t lie. if I found myself in the hood again. I’d probably stop in to see what they had ;-)

A must, must, must see if you love creative repurposing! This place rocks! An amazing amount of creative detritus (and I use that word fondly) and incredibly well organized. I, personally would be ok even if that was not the case but it def makes it easier to process it all, especially if your time is limited. My hat is off to these guys!

What a neat find in Houston! Came here on a beautiful Friday afternoon back in February. Was just looking for some art for my apartment and walked out with loads of stuff at a low cost.
Massive space full of incredible knick knacks. Only regret is that I wish I had spent a little bit more time in there.

They have knick knacks from bottle caps to all sorts of antiques.

OMG if only there was a place like this in California! It’s an art geeks treasure kingdom! If you need inspiration just walk through their isles and you will be inspired! They have everything from doll parts to old photos and everything in between. The prices really range all over the place. I dropped $ 50 there easily without a full bag of product, but definitely a wide variety. They also have classes. It’s a little difficult to find because it’s off the beaten path. But worth checking out.

Literally the most amazing place ever, I cannot talk it up enough. If you are creative and/​or crafty at all, you will find this place to be a never ending wonderland of useful odds and ends !! Incredibly cheap prices and tons of: fabric, buttons, corks, bottle caps, jewelry, books, magazines, National Geographics, purses, antiques, ribbon, old photographs, beads, doll parts, stationary, tins, bottles, jars, toys, stickers, picture frames, transparencies, ET CETERA. They also do craft classes. Staff is bamfin. Be prepared to spend hours or even all day!

I drive by this spot almost daily & never recognized it until today. I felt like a pirate who’d found hidden treasure. There was so much cool stuff in here. & dirt cheap. I think I spent all of $ 5 on like 4 items. If you have some spare time to actually dig thru everything I’m certain you’ll find a jewel.

This is my favorite place to buy vintage art supplies and fabrics. It’s so inexpensive and I’ve found the coolest things. I am always wanting to go there! It makes me want to start more and more projects. Love it.

Very cool place to find recyclables for turning into crafts, art, etc. they have a little bit of everything, from doll parts, to fabric, to glass bottles, and more. Antique shop meets thrift store meets craft store! There is also local artwork and jewelry on display for sale. The staff is super friendly and helpful! If you have something to get rid of, that could be used for craft supplies, consider donating to them.

Not just for artists, this place calls to anyone with an eye for repurposing! After walking in, I bid farewell to my mom and my grandparents and wandered through the isles trying to talk myself out of tile, glass bottles, serapes, framed drill team pictures, mink stoles, fabric bolts and scraps, telephones, beakers, test tubes, and a ceramic lamp that had been softly whispering, «Samantha…» the whole time.
The reason for the four stars and the reason I walked out with nada was that I honestly felt it was a tad too expensive. I could have gotten the things I wanted for a good amount lessat Savers or another thrift store.
This place will definitely stay in the rotation when I visit H-​town, though!

This is a hoarder’s paradise. You have to dig deep to find something useful or cool here. There is simply no editing at all. If you can make use out of a big box of ‘Simply Orange’ juice green tops or a crateful of Corona bottle caps, this is a place for you. If you think of an art project that requires a whole lot of jar collecting or some severed doll heads, you will make out big here. I found some brown ‘vintage’ medicine bottles that I thought I could use for my beauty products after I slapped on some cute labels.
I didn’t end up buying anything because there was no one at the cash register, even after I waited for a few minutes. Instead the manager was having a very indiscreet fight with her employee in the back ‘craft room’. Now, the owner was saying some awful, rude things and behaving in such an unprofessional manner that I decided to just leave without purchasing my bottles. I don’t want to buy anything from someone who would be so disrespectful toward her own employees, and by extension, her customers.

The asylum advertises itself as part craft store, part thrift shop, part antique shop and part salvage yard, put together with insanely low prices you get the coolest source for all things artsy. I absolutely love the concept of creatively reusing neat items locally rather than straining the earth by mass producing trinkets shipped from across the globe.
This place would have saved me time money and stress had I known about before embarking on a hunt for old picture frames to make message boards from. I picked up a couple today for less than 3 $ each. They also have stuff you simply can’t buy at the craft store, like cigar boxes… lots and lots of cigar boxes. They have fabric and yarn (plus notions), dishes to break for mosaics, bits and baubles, records, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I went on a bonafide spree and the damage was only ~30 $.
I like this place so much, I hesitate telling you about it.

This place is the Junkers paradise. Amazing.
There were so many fun things to look through, I kept going up to random objects and trying to think of something I could do with them. One of the two owners was there today when I went, Her name was Jennifer and she seemed very nice and excited that my boyfriend and i loved her shop. He gathered some cross stitching supplies and I scored some vintage vanity pieces. We made out well.
