I bought my husband a gift card from soultrex for Christmas ($ 100) now the store is closed! What should I do? Soultrex… if you are reading this… please do something ! So dissapointed !

I miss SoulTrex! It was definitely the best store on the island for outdoor gear and the staff was AMAZING! Extremely helpful and able to make great suggestions.
I hope a new location presents itself and they can expand on the climbing gym.

Update: this place will be closing by the end of the month. If you wear larger sizes, XL and up, there are deals to be had. Or if you are a young girl who is looking for a hat for paddling/​ocean sports! Lots of them in that size!!! (not in my size, i digress). Otherwise, not too much selection left in the store. Its sad to see another local business have to close their doors.
I’ve been doing more serious types of hiking in the past year and have required more equipment than the usual «water bottle and shoes» that we can get away with on many of the hikes on this island. Thus, I’ve been several times and been able to check out the different brands they carry, and can actually analyze, inspect things in person before I buy. (vs. guessing from outdoor website reviews and specs)
The staff is always knowledgable, and I appreciate when someone is patient to answer questions, give feedback based upon their own experience. Thats the kind of customer experience I enjoy at other specialty sports places such as Running Room etc.
I spoke with one of the ladies there and they are hoping to relocate, so lets keep our fingers crossed!

I just received the email regarding the pending closure of Soultrex. The email stated «If, another location presents itself (and we pray for this miracle to happen!), then we hope to meet again.» and was kind of bummed. I’ve since relocated from the Islands, but still wanted to leave a review documenting my pleasant experience here.
To me, the Windward Mall is the «secret mall» to go to. It is usually not very crowded but still has a great selection of stores, this one included. Finding outdoor gear on the Islands is tough and online shipping normally skewers your bill when you checkout (last time I checked Amazon Prime wasn’t an option to Oahu). I purchased a few items here and appreciated the military discount. They had a climbing wall, which my son enjoyed. The staff was always very friendly. Some reviews noted the cost of the gear. I can tell them with certainty that good gear is going to cost you and the prices on «Da Mainland» aren’t any cheaper, just more options to choose from since there are obviously more stores to choose from given the limited real estate that is Oahu.
As we were leaving Oahu (*tears) I noticed how all of the popular shops were being run out of Ala Moana due to contracts not being renewed, corporate bullying, etc… I hope this isn’t the case with Windward Mall, because I did not mind driving from the other side of the Island just to come here and visit some of the cool shops like Soultrex.
I do hope that another location presents itself. A good business like this should be allowed to strive. I’ll be praying for the miracle to happen as well. Thanks Soultrex for at least being there, with gear, if I ever needed it promptly.

All I can say is buy online and you’ll save about 80% I thought REI was a rip this place takes the cake. The only thing going for them are the nice sales people…

I also noticed that when you buy shoes, they’ll take your boxes and donate them Operation Christmas Child. :-)

In an age of instantly accessible everything I was hoping for a bit more from this local gear and apparel outfitters. Friendly shopkeepers and a climbing wall might not be enough to survive a long term battle with the internet. Desperately want to shop locally but the inventory here was thin. Call before heading over to ensure they can help with what you need.

Fantastic customer service. Great advice on shoes and hiking accessories. Found what I came for as well as a few extra nifty items. Good prices and frequent sales. Discount for military and educators.

If you love the outdoors, this is like a mini local REI located at the Windward Mall. Great for hikers, climbers, campers, preppers and anyone with a passion for adventure. Linda is awesome and very knowledgable about her merchandise and what you may need for whatever your trek may entail. They carry only quality brands, so this isn’t exactly a bargain store. But the do occasionally have sales, they offer military, senior, and education discounts. They even have a membership club that allows you to earn a discount after spending so much. Overall I love coming to this store whenever I visit the mall, and I sometimes walk out with a new toy for my next adventure!

In preparation for my backpacking trip into Haleakela Crater I needed to purchase some hiking shoes FAST. aka. online shipping wouldn’t arrive on time so I decided to go check out Soultrex.
I had done some research online and saw that Keen had some killer reviews on Amazon. Just my luck that the store carried some. The main thing was that they were waterproof and had good support for my weak ankles. I tried on 2 pairs, second ones fit like a glove. The sales rep had me walk up and down the ramp they have set up to see how it felt and after a few walks around the store I knew I was ready to dish out $ 100 for a pair of shoes.
*I never once felt any discomfort with these shoes during my hike. I wore them in a little bit but not as much as I should have for a 19 mile hike. No blisters either. HIGHLY recommend KEEN!
Good food is always a necessity in the wilderness so I picked up a bag of dehyrdated cheesy lasagna… Seriously, you have to try it. Won’t know how good it is till you do. Especially after hiking 10 miles.
They have some backpacks, hiking attire, socks, UV water filters and I’m sure much more — just didn’t have enough time to fully explore…
I will be back to stock up for my next trip for sure.

The closest thing to a REI that Hawaii has so far. This is a great place to get all your outdoor gear. Too bad it’s all the way on the East side. I’ve visited SoulTrex a few times and on my last visit I picked up a pair of Merrell trail gloves. I went with friends who mentioned that they weren’t helped after walking around the shop once or twice and no one really asked if they were doing okay. On the other hand I went straight to the wall of shoes (closer to the register/​back of the store) and was helped immediately. It didn’t take me long to find the pair that fit me; they even have a little block you can walk on to see how the shoes fit going up and downhill. I was sold. Anytime im at WIndward Mall I’m going to visit.

It’s about time the Windward side got a good outfitter! While Soul Trex is no R.E.I., it provides a good selection in a relatively small store. They have all kinds of outdoor apparel, shoes, and accessories, along with a selection of equipment like water bottles, camping items, and climbing gear. The salespeople are really friendly and helpful, too. My only complaint, really, is that their stuff is pretty pricey – but that’s to be expected for this kind of merchandise I suppose.
They offer daily discounts for military (15%), school employees (10%), and seniors 62+ (10%). There’s also a climbing wall (for a fee). If you enjoy the great out-​of-​doors, Soul Trex is definitely worth the trek to Windward Mall!

I first found out about this store because of a Groupon deal a while back. I’m glad I bought in to that deal because I’ve come to really like this local business. I always try to make it a point to stop by to check out the outdoors gear whenever I’m in Windward Mall.
GOOD:

+ Vibrams and Injinji toe socks

This shops inventory consists mainly of climbing gear and other outdoor related gear and apparel. I’m not a climber, but I do occasionally pick up an occasional jacket, or other clothing item. They also have a nice selection of hiking shoes and Vibram Five-​Fingers. Their stock isn’t anywhere near as vast as an REI, but it’s pretty decent for Hawaii.
On my last visit I used my Groupon to pick up a bunch of Injinji toe socks. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. They made conversation, and suggestions when they found out what I was in the shop for.
They even have a small climbing wall area for kids to play on, and probably for grown-​ups to test gear out on. Maybe this shop will eventually get me into climbing as a hobby…

This is one of my favorite local businesses. In fact, it might be my very favorite.
They have a great selection of Vibram FiveFinger shoes, and I’m embarrassed to admit they spent an entire HOUR helping me try on all of the different types until I found the perfect pair. (There are styles for walking, trail running, hiking, going in the water…) I had tons of trouble getting them on with no experience, but they were incredibly patient and guided me along. Now, it’s hard to imagine hiking –without– these comfy shoes!
They have all sorts of camping gear, outdoor apparel, unique outdoor snacks, survival books and gizmos, and beautiful nature photography greeting cards from a Kaneohe photographer. Prices are always high for outdoor gear, but I’ve shopped around, and prices here are certainly no higher than anywhere else. Actually, prices are often lower here.
I can’t afford to buy much gear, but I always chose to buy from here. More often, I come to the free rock wall climbing class on Tuesday evenings!

Generally speaking, I like outdoor stores. We don’t have the Powder Edge Store anymore, and no REI in Hawaii. Not much choice here. I rate this store 4.5.

A lot of outdoor items in this small store. The sales ladies were helpful. One lady was really good. We just wanted to check this store, ended up spending $ 100.00 easily. Hat $ 34 + Kanteen Bottle $ 23 + Multiknife $ 38 + tax.
There is a discount for Militaries, teachers, over 62 years olds. I guess for hiking group members too by QN. We could not use any of these deals but we are happy with our purchase.

Bring Out Your Inner Pioneer
This place is so far away for me! Good thing I only have to come here once and a while. However, when I have to go here I reward myself with Hot Dog On A Stick! Lol. Located in Windward Mall, 2^nd floor, next to Regal Cinemas this store is targeted to the active outdoorsman or woman. The reason I came here was because they are one of the only places to pick up climbing gear! They have climbing shoes for women and men, climbing chalk, chalk bags, and helmets if needed. I lucked out that they had my size in some cool looking shoes! They also have a small climbing wall to test your skills. I hear even though it is small the routes can be tricky. I think to climb it is only $ 5 for the day and they even have climbing classes if you want to learn the proper way to climb :)
Not only do they have awesome hard to find climbing gear, but products for hiking, camping, and tons of outdoor apparel. Carrying name brands like Vibram, Columbia, North Face, and Victorinox you can find what you are looking for here. Time to get dirty Unilocalers! Hehehehehehe…

I love this store. I bought 3 different Klean Kanteens here on different occasions. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend hitting this store up if you are in Windward Mall.

I got an educational discount because I work for a school!

Came here recently to check out my best options for winter wear for an upcoming trip to Alaska. Average temperatures during our trip in February will range well below zero and can get as low as forty below (WTF?!). Actually, the coldest weather I will ever have experienced.
My friend heard radio advertisements about this place, so we trekked out towards Windward Mall for a look see. Last time I’ve been to Windward Mall was maybe decades ago?
Store was very nice. The quality of their apparel and the brands were all high end and respected (i.e. Columbia, Merrell, North Face, Marmot). Prices weren’t outrageous and pretty standard (still expensive). I was impressed with their selection of Klean Kanteen stainless bottles, by far the best variety I’ve seen on the island.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. My friend purchased a few items like Smart Wool NTS base layers and winter gloves from Switzerland (with a price tag as if they made their way to Hawai’i via first class). I was just browsing their options and making mental notes of specific items to check later on the Internet. Of course, I got the items for less. However, I’ll probably return here and purchase a pair of winter boots. Otherwise a great option for outdoor gear apart from the run-​of-​the-​mill Sports Authority fare.

I’m an REI fan woman, and so I’ve been missing the brick-​and-​mortar stores (though the website is a nice substitute). But the void is now addressed with the locally owned and operated SoulTrex (yay!) in the Windward Mall. I took advantage of the 20% discount as a member of a couple of hiking groups and went out all out on the store this past week, grabbing a hook, a hat, long-​sleeved shirt, hiking book, chapstick with sunscreen, and maybe some other things I can’t recall at the moment. I was mostly pleased with the selection though I was hoping for more long-​sleeved hiking shirts (I guess we are in Hawaii) and pants/​shorts for petite women like me.
I will definitely be back when I feel the urge to check out some outdoor gear in a store (soon!). For one, I was eying the vibram fivefingers.

The bouldering wall is no longer free. However, it is still extremely reasonable:
Adult: $ 4 day pass, $ 30 month pass
Child: $ 2 day pass, $ 15 month pass
Family (of 3) $ 8 day pass $ 45 month pass
Children with signed waivers can climb for free from 2 – 4 on weekdays
Also, they will rent out the wall for $ 50/​hour, $ 75/​hour with an instructor. And you can request two tables and bring food.
