History

Established in 2005.

La Jolla Termite and Pest Control started January 2005 as a one man team. In the first year Mike Lawson hired an office manager and today we are an 10 man team and still growing. We have established three pest control routes; have completed over 5000 termite inspections and now moving in the organic and green direction as well as conventional methods. La Jolla Termite is known as the company that will respond to our customers needs within 24 hours. Our goal is to take your worries away regarding termites and general pests ~ that’s our job!

Business Owner

Mike joined the Army at 17 and served 4 years in the infantry. During his time in service he married and had two children. He then served 22 years in the California Army National Guard before retiring. During that time he began working in pest control (like his father). After 15 years of working for others, he decided to start his own business.

Mike has two children, a son and a daughter, and two dogs. Mike enjoys the outdoors, riding his Harley, and most sports. He is very passionate and dedicated to the success and growth of his company, and has expanded into Organic and Green pest control.

Mike is involved with several organizations such as the BBB, Pest Control Operators Association, Mission Bay Realty Association, Chamber of Commerce, and The Harley Davidson Group to name a few.

Had to ding a star today for the girl who told me that I would have indoor service treatment at 8am… and didn’t clarify that it was a much larger window than the hour that I have been sitting here wasting my time waiting.
Just had to call and reschedule for an inconvenience that did not need to take place.
This is service for a new property and not off to a good start. Almost rethinking the referral I just gave someone last week. I should have checked back on Unilocal and seen that they got bought out. Ughhh. Just signed a year service agreement based on my wonderful experience with the company from 2007 – 2014

I agree with Rachel’s comments below. The technicians I have met are super great but like her after being a very loyal customer and raving fan of theirs for such a long time I am sick and tired of their disorganized office and very rude service exhibited by Heidi when I was trying to schedule an appointment.
It is truly sad when such a company let’s the people answering the phones be rude to their loyal customers. I also asked for the owner’s voicemail so I could share my feedback on this and the missed appointments that have been taking place lately but Heidi flat out refused to give me his email or voicemail and said the company’s policy was to not give it out. How sad to have been such a raving fan and referred them clients to be mistreated this way.

Don’t use them. Agents advise your clients to not use them. They have been out to one of my properties 3 times in 4 months and have yet to provide a complete and clear section 1 report. Had to call them multiple times to remind then that the home is in escrow and the buyer can’t close without the clear report… Instead they waste weeks, and then continue to send reports without full clearance. And follow up appointments take weeks. Do yourself, call someone else.

Absolute worse!!! Terrible service and communication, don’t waste your time. Don’t know how these people stay in business with their horrible customer service, I was a customer but no longer thanks to their awful practices of the business. I’m more than happy to give my money to someone’s else since they don’t care!

This company has gone in the toilet since being bought by a larger firm based somewhere in LA (I think). Now its nothing but mix ups, confusion, and impersonal. Lost my guy after three years. Poof. No where to be found. Plus I was not thrilled to begin with. I have had to call my guy back three times to redo work. Now — today, the day I write this review — I go out back and find black widow spider webs all throughout my patio furniture. I give up! Canceling service on Monday.

The communication from this company is subpar. We had multiple problems along the way and were always the ones that needed to initiate contact with the company to get things straightened out. Once we advocated for ourselves, they did respond, but it seems to me that they would be much better at communicating with their customers than they are. We had tenting in Aug and our broken roof tiles have still not been fixed. The only way they would know this was because we’ve kept calling to get them fixed and pay our bill!

If I had written this review when I first hired La Jolla Termite, it would have been a lot better. However, I waited. Soon after my first few treatments, this locally-​owned company was sold to a larger firm and the once personal and family experience I had turned no-​name corporate over-​night. The office staff & technician, whom I all knew by name, were fired, and I am no longer impressed. Instead of being given an appointment time, as I had in the beginning, I now get a «window.» Honestly, it was the stories I heard about how and when the original employees were let go (one was right before Christmas, no severance pay, no bonus) that had the most impact on my decision to cancel my service.

After being a loyal customer for 3+ years and getting bi-​monthly spraying inside & outside our house, I became fed up with the disorganization in their office and just cancelled my bi-​monthly spraying. The technicians who come to the house are good and friendly and helpful but their office and scheduling IS TOTALLY DISORGANIZED.
After many times of them calling me in the late-​afternoon/​early-​evening and letting me know that a technician would be coming the next morning (gee, thanks for the notice!- not!) and me calling them back to let them know that: (1) I have a standing appointment and why are they confused about this AGAIN?, and (2) they need to give me more notice than 16 hours in order for me to be home to let them in the house, I became totally fed up with them!
There are plenty of pest control companies out there who would like my business and would not screw up the scheduling time & time again… so I will now be switching to a more reliable company!

Awful customer service and organization. They fail to call back, don’t have accurate explanations, and blame shift across the board. Apparently our appt was lost in their system and our scheduled fumigation didn’t happen on the day it was supposed to. We were told at 8pm the night before that it might not happen but they don’t know and given instructions on how to bag everything. Finally when we did have the fumigation, they ended up throwing out hundreds of dollars of food etc that was correctly bagged as they had instructed us to do so.
No one accepts responsibility, no one returns calls, extremely unprofessional and felt like just another customer.
Don’t understand why all the high reviews.

I had a horrible flea and ant problem this summer. I called around for estimates and La Jolla had the most competitive price BY FAR. I was hesitant at first, but called anyway and they were able to squeeze me in between two appointments. The whole process only took a few hours. The fleas and ants were gone for a few weeks and then I spotted a few in my kitchen. Anthony, who came out for the initial visit, fit me into his busy schedule that day and did a quick spray for FREE! I was so appreciative, you don’t find customer service like that very often. The best part is, I haven’t had a pest problem since! I can’t thank them enough.

Bird mite, one of the worst pests, infested our renter place, causing inconvenience. At the beginning, we have been doubtful about La Jolla Termite & Pest Control’s capability since our renter still called us complaining the mite still around after the first treatment. Michael and its employee were very caring, understanding the situation, quickly responding and reapplying the treatment. So far after several months we have not heard back from renter complaining about bird mite/​its bites. Thank you La Jolla Pest Control Team!

SEVEN ESTIMATES
I got seven (7) estimates on two different properties. I did NOT go with this company.
I have no idea what these other reviewers are smoking.
YES. Get at least 3 estimates. I’m rather upset that each one of my SEVEN (7) estimates was very different… There isn’t any real standard or uniformity in this termite business… you’ll see.
Mike Edelen came to estimate our home… really nice guy… helpful… polite… on time… answered my questions… Thorough with our home… Personable… He gave me a verbal quote and said he’d give me an emailed /​written quote later.
Pricing was average… Compared to other companies /​estimates.
HOWEVER: Apparently he got the roof tile estimate wrong. (Yes get a roof tile warranty if you have fragile tiles). I got the email /​written estimate with an $ 672.00 Roof tile warranty. Please note this is an OUTRAGEOUS price. Go ahead and compare. I got seven estimates and all of the other Roof tile warranties were less than $ 300.
What’s worse is one of their admin people Natosha gave me a MORONIC explanation for their $ 672.00 Roof Tile Warranty. I’ll send you a copy of the email if you’d like. Insulting, to say the least.
PLEASE get at least 3 estimates.

We have been using La Jolla Pest and Termite since we purchased our home in 2010. I call them annually when the scout ants make their appearance. Appointments are easy to schedule and everyone is very professional. They are in and out and pest problem solved.
We alway ask for the organic spray and don’t have to worry about leaving the house.

I too question the validity of all these fake glowing reviews. I was wooed in by the trumped up praise on Unilocal but the reality of my experience was terrible and unprofessional.
It took multiple email attempts and phone calls to get a response. This was not just in our initial contact, but when I needed to schedule a appointment, after the appointment when they made mistakes, and one year later when I tried to get them to come out and honor their warranty. Each time, no response to my email or call, and only when I phoned or emailed a 2nd time and called the first ignored attempt to their attention. This may not sound like a big deal but it speaks to the quality and professionalism that follows.
The reports and estimates the agent gave me did not match what was written up a few days later. And big surprise, what was written up was 2.5x more expensive than what was quoted and explained to my face at my home.
They ignored areas of my house that were to be serviced (luckily it was written up in the contract). And it took me more than 3 attempts to reach them to reschedule. When they finally came out, the worker could not find what the estimator had drawn up. Putting me in the awkward position of middle man when I know nothing about termites. To date this work was never done. I have since went with a different company.
And then trying to get them to come out for what should be a free inspection one year later and fix any mistreated areas for free? All I can say is good luck. Now, re-​reading all these ridiculously favorable reviews makes me smell a rat. Just don’t call La Jolla Pest Control to have them exterminate it!

I purchased a new house that had been inspected for termites by Dewey Pest Control only 6 months ago. The inspection came with a 1 year guarantee, so I called them back out for a touch up. They arrived about 1 week later, made an inspection, said they could not treat the area until they could work up a quote. Another week later they sent me a quote for $ 450 to treat 2 small areas.
I called La Jolla Termite & Pest, Eric came out, gave me a quote $ 125 and treated the areas the areas that day. He told me what to look for in the future and showed me how to treat exposed areas myself.

I have worked withTosha at La Jolla Termite & Pest Control for years. Just recently our kitchen was over-​ran buy ants, I called to see if they could have someone service our house ASAP!!! Tosha told me they were booked for the day but to give her 15 minutes and she would call me back. Ten minutes later she called and told me she would have a technician to my house by the end of the day. Within two hours my doorbell rings and it was Robert G, from La Jolla Termite. Robert sprayed for ants and walked my property (I live on a canyon); he was able to determine where most of the ants were coming from and treated the area. Within an hour there were NO signs of ants in our kitchen.
I want to thank Tosha and Robert for being so responsive and professional.

Simply stated, the people who work for this company are honest and professional. Terrific customer service (big shout out to Julie and Inspector Mike).
I started doing business with La Jolla Termite three years ago when I realized my house needed tenting. Another company did the inspection and quoted me a crazy high figure for tenting. After calling around to dozens of companies, I selected La Jolla Termite because they had great reviews and gave me one of the lowest estimates. The tenting was seamless (pun intended). Quick easy and professional.
A year later, I started freaking out that I might have termites again: I live near the beach and my neighbor’s house was getting tented. La Jolla Termite re-​inspected my house for no cost and gave me a clean bill of health.
This year, I sold my house and used them as my Pest Inspection for Escrow. Once again, their prices are some of the lowest in the business and the quality of customer service is one of the highest in the business. Selling a house can be a huge expense, because the Seller is required to make lots of pest inspection related repairs. It is critical that you use a company who will not make up random repairs that need to be completed. Termite companies have incentive to say things need to be fixed, because they will give you an estimate to complete the repairs and they will try to make lots of money off you. That’s why I used La Jolla Termite, because I trust them. And I was not disappointed in their honestly. I feel like I saved a lot of money by using an honest company.
You should use them too. You will not be disappointed.
