Holiday Inn San Diego – La Mesa

Check-​in was okay, not the easiest, don’t like being forced to present a credit card on a pre-​paid reservation. If a room deposit is necessary, cash should be a viable option available. Parking lot was very small and if you have a larger vehicle no off-​street parking is available. Everything in room worked, bed was clean and the room smelled fresh not stuffy or moldy as can sometimes happen in coastal communities.

Stayed here overnight. We needed a place in La Mesa to visit friends, not necessarily for centrality to San Diego sightseeing/​activities. This hotel was fine. The room was clean, the bathroom was stocked with toiletries, there were plenty of towels, and the front desk was friendly enough. Parking wasn’t great (small spots, even with our small car), but it was free so no room for complaints. We didn’t try the restaurant onsite, but it looked good. I’d stay here again. If you’re looking for a clean, low key hotel in La Mesa/​close to El Cajon, I’d recommend this place.

My cousin bought two rooms so when I get in town I would have my own room to relax after a long travel day but when I touch down and got to the hotel around midnight I was sadly informed that my room was not available and that it was locked and the manager was not going to be back to open it till the morning with no explanation at all!

The staff is wonderful, both at check in and check out the girls working were great, fast, friendly and gave us tips about the area.
The rooms were spacious and clean, as were the bathrooms.
We got a great deal online, about a fourth of the regular price which made this a great stay while house hunting in San Diego for the weekend.
It is about 15 minutes from downtown so not ideal if you are wanting to go out that night, but since we were staying in the area it was perfect for us.
They have a tiny fitness center as well as a small pool, but we used both and they were clean and functioned just fine.
I can totally recommend this Holiday Inn for anyone coming to the area!

Sorry that our experience was so very different than the two latest review from June and August. Our room was not clean; it was stained, the headboards torn, and there were bugs in the room. The door handles were grimy, and the hardware in the bathroom was dirty. The elevator was dirty. Although the staff was mostly friendly, when an intoxicated wedding party arrived at 11:30 pm and continued their party both in the parking lot and right in front of the entrance to the hotel, it took a phone call to the front desk to get the security to quiet down and clear out the party. The wifi was indeed free, and cut out about every 60 seconds. We’ve been in worse hotels, but this place charged $ 200/​night. Big mistake.

When we 1^st got there, Hillary at front desk was AMAZING! I had lost my drivers license on my way to California and didn’t know it until i had to check in the hotel. So when i got to the hotel, i had ALL MY cards and my paperwork for the hotel and she was able to work with me… that i was thankful for… That’s how you take care of someones first time to California …
Rooms/​hotel:
We had 2 Queens and the room was small but nice. They told me they had microwaves 1^st come 1^st serve
…I was 15 mins out and I called. but when I got to hotel they ran out.
They also said they had laundry service which is my prerequisite I asked for (soccer team needs clean uniform) but it was broke the whole weekend… that sucked.
The ice machine filled up 3 bottles for us the entire trip… so the ice machines were crappy.
Small little dirty pool… good thing I don’t swim in pools
TV in room was cool, air con worked fine and showers was rain shower which was good… but their hotel soap was hella dry! BRING UR OWN SOAP…
When they said kids eat free… its at La Mesa Grill…
Let’s talk about that…
Dinner was ok… its had BBQ chicken wings. its looked like it was freezer burned… its didn’t finish it… my husband had BBQ burger. looked amazing but had no flavor… but at least the waitress was nice. SHE TOLD US TO COME IN THE MORNING TO EAT FREE FOR KIDS. (hold that thought). but for 3 adults and 4 kids $ 63 was nutz…
NEXT MORNING. .we get there… (oh forgot to mention it smells like sewer for some reason at the front door. .so that killed my appetite. .but kids must eat) so me and my husband got coffee. .and got kids tiny little yogurt (smaller than the dannon yogurt in the store) and when we got the bill it was $ 16.50… wtf?!
obviously questioned it and that’s when some chick with lite eyes and braids .I think her name was Christine was like well .are u on the hotel? And u need to buy an entrée to get the discount. …really?! U couldn’t tell us in the beginning when we were sitting there thus whole time and now we had to go? Unbelievable. .but apparently it was listed in print on the paper coloring menu for kids WHICH I didn’t read bc my kids are 12 and they can read themselves.
Over it… all in all I rate it…3 stars… for clean room, great rate for the group and Hillary. .without her…2 stars.

I’ve stayed at this HI Express many, many times over the last year for work and love how nice the staff is and it doesn’t matter who it is, everyone consistently gives great service. I once prepaid for a room, non refundable, and had to cancel and they refunded me! The rooms are large — some a little too large for the tv. Free parking, free wifi and close to Grossmont, tons of other shopping and great restaurants nearby plus it’s super close to the freeway.

I spent the last weekend at the hotel and I am truly impressed by the entire hotel team. Rooms were clean, internet was fast and free, Front Desk was very friendly and personable. The bed was very comfortable and I had one of the best sleeps. The location is great and close to the COSTCO and freeways.

Bed bugs in our room on the second floor. Stayed Friday night and discovered multiple bugs. We squashed one and discovered that it had very very recently bit someone. Hotel will refund us (still pending) the night, which we had prepaid for via Hotwire. *However*, somehow they have managed to separately charge us for the room on a separate card that was used for incidentals. They claim it was a system error that had been reversed. We shall see in the next few days. Seems like an incompetent system they have there.

BED BUGS! I was in Room 258 last night and I’ve got about 20 bites on my arms… beware!

The staff is what sold me on this place. Very kind and helpful. Got us into our rooms quickly and efficiently after a long cross country flight. Smiling faces and a welcoming spirit.
Loved the inherent weirdness of the building, I mean there are random ramps. Good clean place. Nice place to stay for a moderately priced hotel.

I had I great visit here in La Mesa.
My room is very nice and well equipped with everything I would need durring my stay here, including free wifi.
I did try out the café here at the hotel and had a great dinner, they have salads and burgers and pup type food with a stocked bar I had the blu burger with was great. I had excellent service from my waitress Sherrylin.
I had some late night noisy people that were next to my room But with one quick call to Robert at the front desk and I never heard anything from them again. My king size bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean.
I will be staying here at this Holiday Inn next time I’m traveling for work. Thanks La Mesa

always cheap rooms on priceline and they are the only 3 star in la messa there so you know what you are getting when you bid. Right across from a costco so you can fill that fridge easily.
Free parking although the amount is limited. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are reasonable size for the money you are paying.
Pool is nice to look at although I have yet to do more than dangle my feet in it.

This is a bit costly than the other motel 6s but it was a very decent place. The rooms were compact & clean, receptionists were friendly and there was a free car parking right in front of our room. Tv was decent ! Wifi I’m not sure, they had a note below saying it was paid.

This place need some major upgrade. First of all the room aren’t too bad. However, the bed head peeled and it had hand prints where 2 people previously did their «sweaky sweak». Then I had to walk all the way to front desk to take the elevator up to the 2^nd floor for ice. I think this place is spending money in wrong places.

I was upgraded to a suite because of my elite status when I visited. I certainly appreciate the recognition, but it turns out the suite wasn’t all that great. It was the size of two rooms but with the same amount of furniture and number of lamps as an ordinary room. I.e., there was lots of empty space and not enough light. The oversized bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, which was nice, but the tub was also the shower and it didn’t have a curtain or door. When I took a shower, water sprayed everywhere in the bathroom and the floor became dangerously slippery. In the morning, when maids and the handyman were working out in the hall, the hall smelled of sewage.

Hmmm while on business I stayed here for about a week.
Good:
Staff is really cool. And they know people by name.
Room was nice. Really nice actually.
The location is in the middle of alot. You don’t have to do epic drives to get food.
Their wifi is actually pretty decent.
They have a pool, gym etc
Bad:
The gym area is a joke lol. It’s 4 treadmills. Get some dumbells and a small bench in there please. I’m wondering if this is standard at all holiday inns. Last one I went to was like that.
While there was a fridge and coffee pot, there was no microwave in the room… or the hotel period. None… I even asked.
Parking is ridiculous lolz. You don’t even know.
Walls are kind of thin. So you do hear shit. Oh and the maids are loud. I’d wake up thinking I left the TV on some telenuvelas, but it was just them gossiping in Spanish.

So negativ, wie viele andere es hier beschrieben haben, fanden wir es nicht.
Im Gegenteil, das Hotel war wirklich ganz in Ordnung.
Die Zimmer waren sauber und zweckmäßig eingerichtet. OK, nicht der neueste Stand, aber es funktionierte alles. Einen großen Kühlschrank gab es, einen flatscreen-​tv und eine gute Klimaanlage. Den Freeway nebenan hört man natürlich, aber uns hat es nicht sehr gestört. Für extrem lärmempfindliche Mitmenschen wäre das allerdings ein Problem.
Das Personal an der Rezeption war sehr freundlich und stets zu einem «Schwätzchen» bereit, was ich sehr nett fand, da das in USA eher selten möglich ist. In der Lobby gibt es 2 gut funktionierende Computer und im ganzen Haus Wifi. Die Benutzung ist für beides kostenlos.
Der Parkplatz ist groß, teilweise überdacht und ebenfalls kostenlos.
Der Pool war eher klein, aber dafür waren wir immer alleine dort. Einen Spa gibt es auch, aber der war während unseres Besuchs leider defekt.
Das Frühstück gibt es kostenlos. Angeboten werden Säfte, Obst, Waffeln, Rührei, Bacons, Joghurt, hartgekochte Eier, Bagels, Toast, pancakes etc. und natürlich Kaffee.
Durch die Lage am Freeway ist man schnell in San Diego. Wir sind zu den verschiedensten Zeiten gefahren und haben immer nur ca. 20 Minuten benötigt, sowohl ins Zentrum, als auch an die Strände und zur Sea World.

I stayed for 2 nights (Sun-​Tues). When I checked in Sunday around 3:00pm, the guy at the front counter was very friendly, and the check in process was smooth and quick. He told me how to park in the rear lot and enter through the back door.
Cool Thing: Lobby has free cups of water! (both regular and fruit flavor). So great to be welcomed by that, after a long drive in the sun.
In terms of my actual stay in the room (Rm. 309 FYI), it was okay.
BEDS — ¹⁰⁄₁₀ (One of the BEST beds I’ve ever slept on — seriously… WOW)
BATHROOM — ⁹⁄₁₀
AMENITIES
— I used the fridge, but kinda wanted a microwave (didn’t have microwave)
— Didn’t try watching TV or other phone
— Lots of outlets to charge stuff =) All the lights worked too (we all know how annoying a broken outlet can be haha)
SMELL — Ok, I could tell when walking in the hallways and elevator, that the carpeting was OLD or just cleaned in a while… needs a good scrub down… Also, the elevator shows the paper with validation up to «April 2014» and um, it’s July right now… Which means technically their elevator is not legally allowed to be used (Expired permit)… Elevator’s kinda slow too… and the musty smell is just blech…
POOL — I didn’t use the outdoor pool, but both nights of my trip, I heard kids screaming all night — and later I realized it was because my room was pool-​side; even if you’re on the 3^rd floor, it can be a little noisy from the pool, but o well, kids will be kids…
THE LOCATION IS WHAT IS GREAT…
— So close to a bunch of eateries, gas station, car wash, etc… COSTCO, WOW~
— I ended up eating at local places for dinner instead of driving to the beach side, when I was too tired to drive 20 minutes to like San Diego areas hehe.
SAFE — I was traveling alone, and as a female single person, I definitely cared about safety. I found the hotel area actually very safe… a little run down like 10 minutes down Fletcher St, but still — I’ve seen much worse. This place was fine, just an older town — but safe. I didn’t see any sketchy people… haha. Thank you Jesus!
