Established in 1999.

We’ve helped homeowners find the right color, texture, and finish for many hard to please customers. in 2009, we were selected to work on The Sculpture House in Golden, CO — one of the most recognizable homes in America. You may know it as the space ship house, the Jetson house, or one of about a dozen names we have heard over the years.

Focusing on residential painting has allowed us to focus on becoming the best at our particular niche. This translates into a high quality end result for our homeowners at an affordable and competitive cost.

Our team of painters are not only house painters, but over 90% are artists; they paint on and off the clock. This has provided us with a very skilled and detail oriented work force. Because of this, you can be sure that your home will be a true work of art.

Business Owner

Owner Nick May has been painting since he was a senior in high school. Nick is mostly self taught, but has attended several decorative painting schools based in Texas and Colorado and a marketing degree from the University of South Carolina. Many ask if he has an art background, but the truth is he doesn’t consider himself artistic… just creative. Color and texture design has just come naturally as he has worked with thousands of homeowners create just the right combinations for their home.

Nick lives in Highlands Ranch with his wife and two boys. Nick and his wife have lived in Colorado for over 17 years, after growing up in Chicagoland and then attending and graduating from the University of South Carolina.

Nick has worn many hats at Walls by Design, and intends to wear less and less as the company continues to grow. He has loved teaching other the art of interior painting, and allowing his teams individual gifts to shape their career and responsibilities in the company.

We just used these folks for repainting of multiple rooms and painting and distressing of a bannister, handrails and a wooden fireplace mantle. The results were exceptional. You’ll see in a previous review of mine that we had a poor experience with another commercial painting firm and Walls by Design corrected their mess in those two rooms. They clearly have an attention to detail and commitment to quality work. We weren’t happy with one of the room colors after completion and they happily repainted it with a new color with great results. They take great effort to protect adjacent property and surfaces from incidental paint splatter and cleaned frequently to minimize their impact on our quality of life while they completed this mammoth job. My absolute only concern was that it took longer than they originally estimated but the final results were worth the added time. We found their fee to be very competitive and fair especially given their high quality of craftsmanship. We had no heartburn or concern in their required down payment to secure our job on their schedule. In fact, the down payment helped in budgeting for the remainder of the work. Their color recommendations prior to initiating the work was also a great help! If you need someone to throw paint up on your walls, I’m certain you could find a cheaper alternative. If you desire quality work with an attention to detail that will add value and beauty to your home then look no further than these folks. We will definitely use them again for our next painting project!

Nick and the staff at Walls By Design are miles ahead of the others in their industry. From start to finish every step was very professional. They were right in line with other bids I received, but provided far more added value (communication, professionalism, quality, etc.) I will continue to refer Walls By Design to everyone in the market for painting interior and now exterior painting as well! Its a breath of fresh air to have someone like this you can refer to a friend or family and not have to hear that they were disappointed.

I never got to the point of hiring them because of 3 things: 1: Their contract requires a 30% DEPOSIT. (When ANY contractor takes a deposit for a job that COSTS NOTHING in materials, theres a RED flag– they dont mention this at all during the consult but its in the fine print in the contract that must be signed to schedule job). 2.:They are about 100 – 130 percent higher than most other reputable, insured, recommended painters (Im giving walls by Design the benefit that they are in the same category I just mentioned) and 3: I just noticed they offer a 15 PLUS percent discount for « Unilocal members» which was never mentioned to me at my bid and now confirms that they have LOTS of room in their highly inflated prices.
Why not just quote the best price you can at the start? I prefer to do business with FAIR, HARD WORKING people, like myself. Maybe these guys do a good job– I ‘ll never know.
Im not impressed. I wound up going with a «personal», not «commercial» referral of a few homeowners and was very pleased with a thorough, fairly priced job, who didnt ask me for UPFRONT money for a job requiring no upfront materials! He even took the minimal «risk, if you call it that», of paying for my paints upfront.
THAT is how a professional works.
