Steve M. Evans claims a three day response rate. It’s been over a week, so all I can assume is that I have been blown off because he has enough business at the moment. I sent an email and left a phone message.
What contractors don’t seem to understand is that just because they are busy at the moment, doesn’t mean they will be busy in 3 – 6 months time AND that the potential client trying to reach them for a quote may well be willing to wait 3 – 6 months. Not good business practice.

Great work from Steve and his son. In two days, they installed a small room under our stairs for storage. They did everything: put a box around our dryer vent, put up sheet rock and walls, and even did a custom door with a magnetic lock (we have a young child and wanted a door that could easily open from the inside). We’re in a townhouse without a garage, so this was worth every penny! They were efficient and communicative. We’d hire them again in an instant and have already recommended them to our neighbors who want similar storage space. Thanks, Steve!

Steve Evans and his wonderful crew have just completed a whole house remodel for us in Livermore. We are so pleased with the results and equally pleased with the experience we had working with Steve. He is a very skilled and professional contractor who listens and who respects his clients wishes. He also was a constant source of great ideas and helpful solutions. From beginning to end he was reliable and quick to respond to phone calls and emails, and he kept us well informed about progress and timelines. He made certain that a high standard of workmanship was maintained at all levels, and he worked hard to keep the project on schedule and within budget. He and his crew were always friendly and pleasant people to have around, which helped to make the whole experience even better. Steve Evans has done a couple of jobs for me and I could not give him any higher praise. Several years ago, we remodeled out entire Kitchen. Steve completed the whole job, demolition, install, cabinets, granite counter tops, appliances, paint and glass in 5 days. This guy is the best !!!

Steve Evans received some very high praises from someone I respect, so when we purchased a short sale in San Ramon we had Steve come out the day of inspection to give us an estimate. We had a couple of other folks do the same thing, but neither submitted a bid which told us to trust our instincts and go with SME (Steve M Evans Construction).
We originally were going to just gut and redo our kitchen, add a bathroom upstairs (where there was supposed functioning plumbing), and have him do some updating to the downstairs bathrooms. It wasn’t until the both the inspection report came back and we actually took possession of the house where we found some other issues and made some other decisions.
Steve is a no-​nonsense kind of guy. He has a wealth of knowledge and being a general contractor can do it all. He also works with his «crew”-two wonderful guys who have been working with him for years. They also happen to have their contractor’s license. Our «job» that we thought would take 5 weeks, took a lot longer but that was because we ran into some problems from the previous owners’ «Mickey Mouse type fixes». Steve is on the level-​pulls permits when needed, goes to bat for you with suppliers, knows people who know people and the high praises go on and on. What he doesn’t do, he knows folks who can, so we did subcontract out some painting and he even had his own lawn guy come out to help us with our watering issues (we learned that even some home owners who have to do a short sale treat the new owners or the situation like a foreclosure). Yes, it could have been worse, but with Steve, we felt well taken care of.
This summer, while the guys were basically part of our family, we had some real family issues going on and quite honestly, had Steve and crew not been who they are, I probably would have lost it completely.
What we had done (those who want more info can PM me and those in my real life can see what was done) but Steve basically took the house we had to a brand new house. We couldn’t have hoped for better-​No Holmes on Holmes issues here, he is like the East Bay Holmes and truth be told, we miss the guys’ in our every day life.

Steve and his crew were fabulous in many facets. This was our first remodeling job ever and it was our kitchen. Steve did everything right on the money. mMoreover, he took the mystery out of what he was doing and how he was doing it.
After leaving the kitchen after a day of work my wife was so impressed on how things looked that she was literally jumping up and down. They are very ethical and very patient in explaining things to you. I would recommend them wholehertedly to anyone planning any type of remodeling for their house

Steve had completed a friend’s kitchen in San Ramon last June and when we met for dinner, the friends raved about Steve as well as Keith at Cabinets Etc. in Castro Valley. We met with both and now, nine months later, we have a new kitchen, two new bathrooms, one partially remodeled bathroom, painting completed throughout the house and even roped in Direct Floors to put in all new flooring throughout the house. Steve was great from the very beginning, demolisthing the kitchen in one day while shiedlng the remainder of the house from the dust and debris of the demolition. Each day thereafter; they came in on time, completed everything on schedule and cleaned up and mopped after themselves. Throughout the construction, I always had access to one half of the garage as I’m in and out throughout the day. The work is beautifully fnished and the house is incredibly and beautifully well lit. It’s also nice to see the same people come back day after day and check in if there’s other work that needs to be completed before they can move on to the next phase. I’d recommend Steve to ALL my friends!

I’m slowly learning that there really are ethical, reliable contractors out there with high quality standards. You just have to find them by word of mouth (or word of Unilocal.You’re welcome.)
Redoing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. There are so many things to think about, decide on, consider. Steve is a pro at gently walking you through the process. He provides stellar referrals for other professionals when necessary (cabinetry, color consultation, etc).
He has the best team of workers. They are on time, friendly, professional and they obviously enjoy working together and working for Steve. They take pride in their work. They clean up every day and keep you up to date on status and next actions.
There were a few instances where Mr. M and I found something we thought wasn’t right in the evening when we were inspecting the day’s work. Our immediate reaction was to be dismayed and frustrated. Until the next morning when we spoke with Steve. He listened, understood, and quickly came up with solutions that pleased us. His many years of experience have made him a creative and talented problem solver, with very high standards for himself and the businesses he associates with.
In the end, we are thrilled with the job they did, and with the process. Start to finish, it took 13 work days. Saving up to do the master bath next!

This review is long overdue. I have been watching the progress of a friend’s kitchen being done by Steve Evans Construction and every time I see the next gorgeous phase, I am reminded of this incredible company.
We had an extensive kitchen remodel done by Steve Evans Construction three years ago. It involved the removal of walls, moving of doors, changing a sliding glass door to a window, adding an island, a second sink, pulling in a gas line, replacing windows. If it needing redoing, they did it.
As an owner of an older house, we have done a lot of renovations, and unfortunately have had our share of unpleasant experiences with contractors. I am SO pleased to have found Steve Evans and his wonderful crew and know that I will never ever have to look for another contractor again. Even three years later, I look at my kitchen and think nothing but completely happy thoughts about the work we had done. The attention to detail was phenomenal. They never cut corners, never tried to nickel and dime us, and did everything they could to make this project an affordable reality. Having your kitchen redone is pretty overwhelming, but I can honestly say that it was a joy to have them here. They kept the place clean and safe, which was important for me, since we had young kids running around.
We have since used them for smaller projects and have had the same experience with them. They are professional, courteous, and their workmanship speaks for itself. Steve’s personality is truly remarkable. He really loves his work, his crew, and takes great pride in what he does.
I have gone out of my way to recommend him to anyone I know that is planning to get construction work done. I do this because I had such an amazing experience with them and WANT them to be happy and busy. You will not be disappointed in the quality of the work, nor in the amount you pay for it. I honestly feel like I’m shortchanging them by not giving them more stars.
Steve Evans Construction deserves a constellation, not just 5 stars. Remarkable company.
