Haven’t gone to this Pep Boys for more than a year. Different service manager — new manager not focused on providing good customer service and fair prices as previous manager was. Won’t go there ever again as last time I was there, they wanted to charge me $ 81 labor to install one of the headlights on my car — headlight purchased from them for under $ 20. Apparently outrageous labor charged was calculated using their hourly rate prorated allowing 40 minutes (or so) to install a bulb that took my non-​mechanic son to do in less than 5 minutes. Shameful — they lost a customer that day — will never go back. One positive thing about my last visit was the honest female cashier who told me I did not have to buy the PREMIUM headlight the service department employee told me I needed — and instead, suggested an adequate and moderately priced version of the same headlight made by the same manufacturer. So, good news was that they had an honest cashier — bad news was that not only did they try to rip me off on outrageous labor charges, they also recommended a more expensive headlight than I need to buy without even given me the option of choosing between the two versions.

I am writing this specifically to thank a person named Joseph at Pep Boys, who helped me out so much. On Saturday last week, I was messing around with my wedding ring in the car, and it fell into the crack between the cup holders and the seat. My husband, his daughter and I searched for the ring for over 20 minutes, but were unable to find it. I was nearly in tears at this point. We then drove over to Pep Boys and asked Joseph if he could try to locate the ring. He basically pulled out the entire passenger seat, the carpet, and found my ring. I can never thank him enough for locating such a sentimental object for me. He refused to take any money for his time and effort, this is the least I could do to appreciate him. Thanks Joseph, Pep boys is awesome! I would totally recommend this place to anyone who needs work on their car or even just loses something and needs it to be found. :)))

Every time I go in I gain so much trust in these guys. Everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful going the extra mile to make sure I’m taking care of. Mike is my mechanic and he is wonderful. Joseph was a Manager from another area who will be leaving to go to the city and I’m glad I got to know him for the short time. I asked him some questions about my car and he took the time to explain things to me. I really appreciated your help Joe, good luck to you!

With plans of thinking I needed brakes and an oil change…
I came in with a scheduled appt. told TJ I needed an oil change and brakes, he was very accommodating! After a brake inspection he told me I didn’t need them it was another minor issue.
Im so happy with this location, as a female your always frightened to get car issues taken care off with fear of being told that you need unnecessary maintenance done. When I finally need brakes or anything else I will come back to this location for sure.
As a female I recommend maybe speaking with TJ, as it really is hard finding someone to be honest with you as a mechanic or worker.

TJ and Mac helped me out when I really needed it. My tire went flat at 7:30 PM and even though they were cleaning up before close, they still helped me out by getting the spare tire on there. They essentially saved my life. Awesome service, fantastic Pep Boys location, I 100% recommend

If I could give 0 stars I would. Worst experience I’ve ever had. This pep boys is completely unprofessional and incompetent! Do not go here for anything, especially tire issues! They didn’t fix anything, lied, never gave me the cap to my tire valve and searched my car without my permission!
My tire was leaking and was flat so I took it to this pep boys thinking, «I probably have a nail, they’ll remove it and patch up the tire in no time.» That definitely was not the case. I walked in at 10:45am and the manager Jose said it should be fixed within 30 minutes, which was great since I had to go back to work at 12pm. When 11:30am came around they said they were almost done. At 11:50am the manager came asking if I knew where the tire bolt was. I gave it to them within seconds since I knew where I stored it. This meant they had done nothing for the past 1hr ½! He then told me they were looking through my car trying to find it. All they had to do was ask me where it was and why were they looking through my car without my consent?! At this point I had to go back to work, fill my tire with air to get there with nothing fixed. I went back since they said they would fix there errors. My fault I should have never went back.
When I went back they examined my tire and said they found nothing and that it could be that my rim needed to be resealed. That’s it. They didn’t charge me for my inconvenience but then again they did nothing to fix my tire! Three hours later my tire was flat again! I took my car to another tire shop the next morning who found a nail in my tire and had it patched within 30 – 40 min! They were shocked what pep boys had put me through and said there was no excuse for what the did and they should of found the nail easily. Pep boys just lied to me and didn’t want to do any of the work. Thank you for wasting over 3 hours of my day for nothing!
Moral of the story, NEVET go here! Terrible service, liers, and a waste of your time. Shame on you Pep Boys.

As I said before they just can’t tell the truth, they said that they would contact me from Risk management but now for over 5 months they have said that it over and over in emails they lie. Their manager aka Tony said they would contact me he lies. Don’t if you care about your safety or your family’s safety get your car worked on by these guys! Shop around there are many shops around and always ask to see the parts they replaced I know now that P boys could not have shown to me because they did not replace them

This is a great Pepboys. They put new tires on my car and aligned it and drove it afterwards to make sure it was good to go and i would have no problems with it. I have previously had bad experiences at OTHER pepboys but this Pepboys in lombard won me back. I will be return for all my auto care in the future. You can see that the reason this shop is run so well is because the manger knows how to take care of his customers and manage his employees. Come here if you want a job well done! Jaime

Update of my review:
Not only did I have an issue at this place (please see original review), but I have also experienced what I would consider HARASSMENT from this establishment.
Not only did I receive a response on Unilocal for my original review, but then they CALLED me while I was at dinner with a friend, and even though I said I didn’t really have time to discuss the issues at hand, the person insisted on pursuing the conversation, to the point of an argument.
Furthermore, I might be a little paranoid here, but today I received a message from some random person on Unilocal,Nichole L. (
). Not only did she specify my place of work and mention that she would be contacting MY supervisors (how does she know who I am or where I work from Unilocal alone???) but it also seems that the ONLY reviews on her profile are for tire places. And what a surprise? 5 stars to two different Pep Boys (one of which is THIS Pep Boys posted not even a day ago) and one star to two other establishments.
I have a feeling this person has some sort connection to Pep Boys and goes around STALKING people if they give poor reviews to Pep Boys.
I’m seriously creeped out. Please stop trying to contact me, please stop harassing me!
Everyone else — avoid this place! Not only will you get bad service, but if you give an honest review about it, you’ll also get harassed and stalked!

I have been coming to this Pep-​Boys since 2003. Every time, at this location, they would hit it out of the ball park whether it was an oil change or major work of $ 600 and with kindness, respect and a great attitude. So, I was told by Discount Tires when I went in for an air check, that one tire was installed incorrectly — in side out, if you will, and it would be dangerous if I continued to drive on it. I keep dated and detailed notes on car services with receipts so I knew that the last oil change at this Pep-​Boys included a tire rotation. I brought the car in and was greeted by David who was impatient and spoke over me, then TJ reluctantly listened to me explain the situation and looked at the vehicle but doubted they made the mistake and said he’d charge $ 5 to make the correct rotation. I resisted that and then Anthony the manager came out and like a charging bull, listened and spoke only to his associate and insisted I was wrong, but he wouldn’t charge for the work, and it would be a 45 minute wait. Fair enough.
In the end, they have lost a faithful customer, the demeanor of these three gentlemen speaking over me, and bullying me was not what I have come to experience at Pep-​Boys, so, no more for me at this location. Business is relationship and I would prefer not to be in relationship with bullies like David, TJ and Anthony.

I had never had any service done to my vehicles at a Pep Boys before but was in urgent need of an oil change and 4 rotors & pads. I went to the Pep Boys on my lunch break and was extremely happy with the service. My Service Writer, Joe, was very helpful and quick to explain all my options and even was patient enough to let me call around to the stores to compare the price. Joe’s price couldn’t be beat!
Joe even took me back to work in his car so my car could be worked on. Once the car was done he picked me back up for work and took me back to the shop.
Driving the car has been great ever since! Stops on a dime, no brake noise, no issues! I also had the spark plugs changed and oil changed. James worked on my car and got everything done in under 3 hours, I’m VERY impressed!
I was happy to find out that Pep Boys will replace future brake pads on this car for free for the life of the car going forward (minus the service charge). I couldn’t be happier. Thanks, Joe & James!

Hey Pep Boys Online! Update your clunky online shopping website! No method to cancel or change orders! No direct confirmation of order canceled! It’s like shopping online in 1998.

My fiancé and I are moving from buffalo to Seattle. He had bad work done on his vehicle by a shop in buffalo to prepare for the trip which caused him to have all but 2 studs on his tire snap off on the highway outside of Chicago. The guys at this pep boys were amazing! They worked on our car first thing the next morning and got us back on the road and held onto the tire to deal with the insurance company of the other shop.

My husband and I went in with a nasty sound coming from his car. Let’s just say, we aren’t up to speed on automotive knowledge.
He went in thinking just like every other car place we were going to get ripped off. And that WAS NOT the case!
Joe was the initial person we came into contact with. He was very upfront and honest. You can tell he knows what he is talking about. He reassured us that him and his team can fix the problem. Usually going into automotive places you can get an uneasy feeling, but He made us feel at ease and comfortable.
The problem was the brakes. We were sure we were going to have to take a cab home and my husband was going to have to miss a day of work. Before we knew it the car outside ready to be taken home!
Best and quickest service that we have ever experienced. Without a doubt, this place has dealer quality without with high expensive pricing. From now on, any issues we have we are going to Joe, David and team!

Brought my vehicle in after experiencing issues with what sounded like my brakes. Talked to Service Advisor Joe W. who had an idea as to what the problem was and said they can check it out.
They came back and told me an issue with the brake pads and rotors and to no surprise it was everything Joe had mentioned it could possibly be. They offered me multiple options on how to get it fixed and without hesitation I went with the option to get it done right then and there.
Asked how long the process would take to work on the brakes, they said a maximum of 2 hours, about 45 minutes later my car is sitting in the front of the parking lot ready to go. I was highly impressed with the mechanics and the customer service from Joe W and highly recommend anybody with car troubles to head over to this location.
Awesome service and awesome job to everybody at this Pepboys.

This is technically the first time I’ve ever done a review on an automotive supply store. I’ve been to a few that are quite shabby. Not all Pep Boys or Autozones are the same.
I like this one in particular because they do a number a small things that make them a pretty good store. It’s usually clean inside, they normally have what I’m looking for in stock and they always offer nice sales and discounts. They install windshield wipers for free.
I’m only commenting on the sales part because I’ve never had automotive work done here so I’m making this review 4 stars to allow room for improvement down the line.

My family has been taking out cars to this Pep Boys location for years and ever since Wally, the service manager, left the company the service has falling through the floor.
Today I took my car in to have my Audi A4’s front brake hoses replaced. I was quoted a number that I felt was a little on the high side, but I left the car to be repaired. I also asked them to check out a rear break issue I was having. Roughly a half hour later I received a call from the service department telling me I needed my entire rear breaking system replaced. I questioned the diagnosis and told them to HOLD OFF on starting any of the repairs until I was able to think it over.
Immediately after receiving the call from Pep Boys I called a local mechanic that worked on this same cars rear brakes in May of 2014 and asked for a recap of what I had done. He went over all the work that they’d done on the car, reminded my of the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty they have on all the work they do, and said they’d be happy to help. He asked what the Pep Boys recommended having done and what I was given as an estimate for those repairs. When I told him the list of thing that were recommended and the costs he let out a, «HUH?» He went on to tell me that his estimate for the exact same brake hose replacement was $ 100 LESS and the other work was going to cost HALF as much what Pep Boys were going to charge me if the additional brake work was needed.
I immediately called Pep Boys to tell them to NOT start the job. I let them know I’d be over shortly to pick up the car and that I’d be taking it over to the local mechanic to have them do the job. TJ, the service manager at Pep Boys told me it was TOO LATE. They’d already removed the brake hoses and wouldn’t be able to put them back on the car. I told him that I was extremely disappointed that they’d done that after I’d asked them to hold off on any repairs until I called them back with the go-​ahead. He told me I was out of luck. I asked if he would be willing to match the price quoted to me from the local mechanics and he told me (with an apparent tone of glee in his voice) ‚” Not a Chance.“
This will be the last time I ever take a car to Pep Boys and will shout loudly for the rest of my days on this earth that Pep Boys will gladly lie and rip people off any chance they get.

In one word I can sum up this place; LIARS! I have two stories that I’ve caught them in lies:
1. Something was making noise on my back wheel, they said it was my brakes & rotors so I had all 4 of them replaced. I found out afterwards that the noise was caused by something else and I didn’t need to replace that. That time they got me. Also they up sold me on 2 new tires with the warranty. The tires were cheap and those I did need so I said why not. Well, you get what you pay for, cheap tires equals more patches & more problems which led me to the 2^nd & last time they lied to me.
2. I had a flat so I took my tire for a patch, unfortunately it required to be fixed. So they tried to sell me all 4 because they said all 4 were bad. Liars! Took to costco, they checked them out and said that the front 2 were perfectly fine.
Thanks Costco! If you want honest reliable high quality, good priced tires then go to costco or anywhere besides pep boys! I will never go back!

Went to have my tire repaired as it kept loosing pressure. I purchased my tires from them and the road hazard warranty was included.
Best tire repair experience I ever had. Honestly from the moment I walk in to the moment I left the store. I was greeted by the friendly manager as he recognized me from last time when I purchased the tires. He quickly pulled up my info and took my keys. A couple of mins later he comes out showing me a screw that was stuck in my tire causing it to loose pressure. He told me the tire will be repaired quickly and I will be set to go. 15 mins later the tire was professionally plugged, mounted, balanced and properly inflated. And best thing it was FREE of charge because of the warranty.
The whole process was really swift and smooth. Excellent work and perfect customer service.
Trust me Peb Boys in lombard is the place to go if you are having trouble with your car!!!

Back in September one of my HID headlight bulbs went out and I headed to Pep Boys to have it replaced. At that time the service was excellent and they only charged $ 125 to change it.
What a difference 4 months makes.
Back in January I went to have the other headlight bulb replaced. It took TWO visits, numerous phone calls and my speaking to the service manager to have the other light bulb replaced. Here is why:
As I said before, back in September to have the SAME work done, it only cost $ 125. Now, in January, they were trying to charge almost THREE TIMES as much. The light bulb only cost $ 99, so in a nutshell they want to charge almost $ 300 for labor? Yeah, right, ok — price gouging at its best. After speaking with the service manager the SECOND time, he told me to bring the car in and they would look at it and if it didn’t «take too long» they would only charge $ 99. (This is the same tactic car salesmen use just to lure you into the dealership.) Of course, they tried to charge the highest price possible… so I took my car and left, but not before the technician took a look at the headlight and told me «it’s still working». HID bulbs, when they start to go bad, turn purple in color and start to dim really badly. My bulb was doing this, but «it’s still working». SERIOUSLY???
The next morning I spoke with the service manager AGAIN and he finally agreed to charge a more sensible rate, but then told me «I’ll note on your file in the system never to charge you this price again for this service». Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’ve already noted on MY file never to trust you all again with my vehicle, especially if you try to price gouge and have technicians that don’t understand the basics of how light bulbs work.
Needless to say, I took my car there, and in FIFTEEN MINUTES they had the bulb changed. FIFTEEN MINUTES and they wanted to charge almost $ 300 in labor for FIFTEEN MINUTES.
Never again. NEVER again. My dealership offered to charge me less than that for the same work, but the only reason why I didn’t take it there was because they were booked solid for the next few days and I needed the work done ASAP.
