The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center

I was a guest here one night for a work function. Our company rented a large block of rooms for one night and also had a large banquet hall for our work party. The room I got was standard, king size bed, with bath and shower. It was more than comfortable and the hotel staff was gracious enough to give me a late checkout as I had some errands to run nearby and did not want have to worry about scrambling to leave on time. They even managed to direct me to a few local places for breakfast that were not pretty hefty on the pocket, as I’d planned on going into the city for a little bit. It is close to both the highways and the burbs, and near lots of shopping. The event spaces are well planned, so your event could be going on simultaneously with other events and you wouldn’t even know it, and catering is well executed. The only drawback I would give is that they don’t have a 24 hour room service menu, even for basic drinks or snacks, and things around tend to close, so if you do get hungry late, you are pretty much screwed.

Beautiful and super clean room. The waterfall shower was relaxing. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

Attended a conference event (couple hundred attendees for lecture). Large space, nice set-​up to accommodate large event. Lighting, and AV were excellent for the room. Kudos to temperature people. One of few conferences I’ve attended where it wasn’t freezing or boiling hot. Hotel had ample parking if using the overflow lots surrounding the hotel. Underground parking available as well.
Purchased latte at small coffee stand inside restaurant entry. Excellent coffee and price.
Would recommend more trashcans in meeting space. Most were overflowing by lunch. They are changed out but not enough for number of attendees.

Before you read this understand my expectations of SPG properties are based on the fact that I practically live in SPG hotels all over the U.S. and even some internationally for 100+ days each year. Starwood for years has been my preferred hotel chain, and the Westin my hotel of choice. When I travel with my family, which is rare, we always choose the Westin as it is consistently top notch especially with the perks I get form being a Platinum SPG Member. All of this ended when we walked into the Westin Yorktown.
Okay time for details.
Day 1 Arrival: From the outside this location is beautiful, but from the moment you walk in the front door you instantly know something is seriously off. From the very clear lack of the «Westin Smell» that my wife loves so much we have in our house, to the overall condition of the facility with beat up walls, and run down (front desk?) that is actually just 3 – 4 pods that seemed not taken care of.
Then to top it off the front desk is being staffed with a young lady in an outdoor casual jacket that is not even marked Westin. This along with the fact she never once greets my wife or I as Mr. or Mrs. McMillan really set the tone that this is not your normal Westin experience. I mean come on this is the Westin not a Four Points by Sheraton.
Then to be honest all of this I could easily look past even with the hallways in worst shape than the lobby, but then we got to our room. With hair on the bathroom floor, and the carpets with crumbs on them. Normally I would have just left, but I am here with my wife and 2 daughters (4 years old and 7 months) and all of them needed sleep badly so we stayed so they could sleep. That ends Day One.
Day 2 Then the fun continues: We get back to the room tonight which was cleaned to the level I would expect, but then get treated to being told that the hotel is completely out of hot food on their room service menu which clearly lists a variety of hot food. Personally I don’t care, but all my daughter is begging me for before she goes to sleep was a bowl of hot soup on this freezing cold night. So what did I have to go and do? Get redressed at 11pm to go hunting for a bowl of soup for my daughter. This following me begging the front desk for help and just being offered a pizza place that delivers pizza but no soup or anything slightly healthy.
If I was staying at a Four Points or a lower end Sheraton I could easily look past this, but this is a Westin. Just last week I was at a Westin and the Front Desk sent their bell men to Walgreens to buy me a Black Sharpie as mine had ran out and I needed it for a meeting the next day. As a Platinum member this is the experience I have come to expect from SPG, not being told basically «too bad here is a pizza place best of luck!» This is just a complete reflection of poor management of this property for the guest experience, and no attention being paid to the loyalty of the guests staying on property. This ends Day Two.
Day 3 I am fed up: I have to leave for a lunch meeting so I tell my wife to order room service for her and the girls. Should be an easy thing right? Wrong! It takes my wife almost 15 minutes and Five separate attempts to reach anyone on the «Service Plus» line to order. Then when the food arrives my daughter hamburger bun is burnt, and my wife’s grill cheese is burnt as well. Again just a lack of attention to detail.
Then that evening my wife wanted to get a bag of chips to munch on so I head down to the vending machine as this location has no pantry or hotel store. Again should be a non issue, right? Wrong again! I walk into the vending room to find like 5 items left in the whole machine, and only 1 kind of chips. Luckily they are what I need for my wife, but nothing for me.
To sum up my review the problem at this Westin is the lack of attention to details. When I choose hotels I pick hotels based on the quality of service I expect from the staff and facility. The Westin globally has been one of the most consistent chains to offer a great experience to me the customer at a fair price. This is why I always choose the Westin for family vacations, and for this trip had my family stay an extra 20 minutes from where all our activities for that experience based on the recommendation of this location over the aLoft that would have put us closer. After all of this drama I am packing my family up and moving to the Aloft as this property just does not have their stuff together.
One Final Note, I oversee the site selection for one of my organizations annual conferences. I base much of my selection criteria each year from a secret shopper experience I will do at the hotels we have listed as finalists. After this experience I could tell you it would never make the cut for me and my team. I simply share this as I noticed this property prides it self on their events, and I would caution you to pay close attention to this review prior to booking.

One of the best things I love about the Westin is that they are military friendly. I stayed at this particular Westin on a recent visit to Chicago and got upgraded to the Executive floor. The view of the city was spectacular. I really enjoyed the fact that the hotel was within close proximity to a lot of great food.

My family and I spent the weekend for the Chicago Tardis convention and the best thing I can say is… they certainly keep a tidy room.

Nice. Clean. Friendly. Comfortable. Located adjacent to Yorktown Center and Target. Two great restaurants in the hotel. Harry Caray’s has steaks and such while Holy Mackerel specializes in seafood. Can’t go wrong with that! And if all else fails, room service is always a great option.

Stayed here last night passing through on a road trip with my husband. The room was immaculate — nothing out of place. The young lady working front desk was extremely friendly and very helpful. She answered all the questions we had and even accommodated my husband’s inquiry about a razor and shaving cream since he forgot his at home, which saved us a late night trip to the convenience store. The hotel itself and the surrounding areas were very easy on the eyes. I don’t know much about Lombard but it appears to be a nice location. Highly recommend this hotel!

I’ve stayed in all the nice hotels in the Chicago area from the Ritz to the Four Seasons and the Westin continues to impress me. We were recently in the Chicago area for a wedding and stayed the first two nights at the hotel suggested in the wedding invite. It was literally the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had and I’ve stayed at a roadside motel in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma.
Anyway, back to the Westin. This trip just so happened to coincide with our wedding anniversary and the customer service rep inquired on our reason for the stay when I booked so I mentioned it, expecting nothing. They had already offered us an upgraded room so I was already happy before I even got there. We got to the hotel before normal check in hours and they were still able to accommodate us. That evening we got a surprise knock on the door only to be greeted with sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries and a note wishing us a Happy Anniversary. It’s touches that go above and beyond, the service and the comfortable rooms that keep me coming back here and to other Starwood properties.

Our stay started out lovely but in the end was a disappointment. We and our families pet were treated like royalty. Front desk employee’s pleasant. Unfortunately I booked third party (hotwire) and was not aware of dance competition being at the hotel. Night management should have been all over the issues I am going to talk about, hot tub being taken over hy children who did not appear to be old enough to utilize it, sauna same situation children in sauna in large groups while the parents socialized and drank poolside, my children and myself were unable to utilize the Amenities. Lets now discuss after midnight groups of children running up and down the hall of the fifth floor screaming and laughing, I was not feeling well which made matters worse and did not have the energy to call the front desk and complain although I did hear another occupant of a room open their door and ask that they go to their rooms because others were trying to sleep. I am fairly certain if investigated you will find many others made complaints regarding this groups behavior.

Our recent stay was above and beyond our expectations, and thanks to exceptional customer service, it likely was our best hotel experience in our years of travel.
We booked a night at an affordable rate and were treated like royalty throughout — warm hospitality at check-​in, courteous interactions — our staff encounters were excellent.
The front desk was aware that we had a 2-​year-​old along for the stay, and were offered a room upgrade with a microwave for heating meals, and even chocolate milk to settle the little one down at night.
Although we didn’t get to use the club lounge or the included breakfast, we appreciated the concern. Fulfilling the «rest and relaxation» mission that Westin strives to accomplish is a top priority.
Room cleanliness, service and comfort far surpassed our expectations, and every need and want were met.
If you’re looking for competent staff with expert industry experience, this hotel and the Westin brand set a high benchmark; they live and breathe going above and beyond.

Avoid this place! No true customer service and they do not care.
The only good thing good is the close proximity to the Target; otherwise, I would not recommend Westin for any event you want to be successful. As a professional, there are certain expectations for any business. One can only assume the place is poorly managed because management was not present over the weekend, or so they say. There were absolutely too many parties going on, to crowded and the place was like a zoo.
The group I was with, was probably the most sober and quietest group, however guest in one of our rooms were asked to leave the hotel and pay a $ 200, no party fee. And this, after the group was violated in their room by someone who was not a guest in the hotel. There was one security guard, I think his name was Kevin, who was level headed and pleasant to work with, however the rest of the hotel need customer service 101. They interfered, with an investigation and handled the entire situation wrong. As professionals, I expected much more. This is not a place I would recommend anyone spend your money.
If you like Motel 6, you will like this place.

Very nice hotel. No free WiFi. They do have restaurants but I have never tried them. They do have computers for you to use. Staff is very nice and friendly. This hotel is located next to a mall and movie theater. Its about 20 minutes from the airport.

I stayed at the Westin as the guest of a wedding and also attended a reception/​rehearsal dinner here. I think the hotel itself is fine. There is one restaurant inside (Harry Caray’s) and I had their food at the rehearsal dinner. It was underwhelming.
The rooms itself were fine, but a bit small and we were right by the elevators and heard a decent amount of noise. The hotel almost shares the same parking lot as Target, but my biggest complaint is that it was not within walking distance of hardly anything. If you have a car, you are golden and have a variety of shopping and dining close by, but you really need a car. The reception was lovely and the staff were friendly enough, I’d just make sure to have a car if you want to venture out.

I was at the Westin Lombard for the Illinois Association of Student Councils event. They were fairly ready to accommodate a huge group of high schoolers– but I always feel bad for anyone else staying in the hotel. Our room was very clean– but the AC was definitely non functional when we arrived. We called and they said they could send someone up that night (it was already 11 pm) or the following morning– we opted for morning and they arrived and repaired it no problem. My interactions with staff over the phone and in person were all pleasant– and the location of this hotel is great. I would definitely consider staying here for a personal stay.

Excellent hotel! My wife and I stayed here on vacation. Great view of the city skyline on floors 10+. Great gym and an excellent Olympic size pool. Restaurants in lobby are over priced but that’s expected. Surrounding area has nice places to eat. The only negative is that it’s 20 miles from downtown Chicago and you have to pay toll both ways if you want to visit downtown.

Summary: This is a very nice hotel that is within walking distance to Yorktown Mall, an «upscale» AMC movie theater, and a Target right next door; however, for the price of a room, this hotel is surprisingly unkept by the staff and has a limited, free outdoor parking.
Positives:
– The hotel looks very appealing from the highway and the lobby is very nice.
– There is free Wireless Internet available in the lobby.
– As stated above, the best part of this hotel is it’s location and convenient access to the mall, the highway, etc.
Negatives:
– Parts of the room had some damage from a previous guest.
– The room next to us had two glasses left on the floor for the duration of the stay… I’m surprised no one on the staff bothered to pick it up.
– No free Wi-​Fi in the guest rooms… if you want to pay it will cost ~$ 13/​day for the faster Internet. (The lobby does have free Wi-​Fi).

I did not have a pleasurable guest experience at this hotel. This is not the quality one would expect from a Westin.
The safe malfunctioned and locked our belongings inside it. When we called for help it took forever to get someone to come up and have it unlocked for us. I would have expected better service. The technician told is that the safe was fixed. Fast forward 1 hour, the safe malfunctioned the very next time we used it. Again, the technician they sent up to fix it took forever to show up.
Additionally, I would think this would be pretty basic and common sense, but, housekeeping needs to be trained to fully shut the guest rooms when they are finished servicing the room. I came back to my room after a full day of events to find my room door open. I had my iPad and computer in the room. Thankfully nothing was stolen!
The overall experience was sub par, and not what one would expect when they stay at a Westin. I would not return here in the future, nor would I recommend this place to others!

I would agree with most of the other reviews… this place is fine. I got a good deal through Hotwire and was satisfied with what I paid, but had I ponied up the $ 160+ they wanted for the night I stayed? I would not be happy.
We got one of the weird «pool view» rooms that don’t actually have any natural light (beware being told you’re in the third floor), and the room was tiny (but, again, for one night and barely being in the room, just fine). Beds are wonderful, though!
The «amenities» are barely that. I went down to use the «business center» to print something out. The business center is actually one computer and a printer next to the kitchen – I wish I took a picture! The printer also took about 3 – 5 minutes to print one page – not an exaggeration, because I timed it.
The shuttle service is pretty good, if a little disorganized – they will take you, or pick you up from, anywhere within a five mile radius.
Finally, service at the front desk leaves a lot to be desired.

The 5 stars are a combination of a great experience and a great price.
I got a Priceline name your own price deal for this hotel for $ 75. That’s a deal and a half. When I checked in they had us in a room with 2 queen beds, but I quickly told the young lady at the desk that it was our 5 year wedding anniversary (it was) and she set us up with a King size bed on a high floor facing a beautiful sunset.
The lobby makes a good impression. It smells magnificent (what was that smell!!!). Love the wall of water. The elevators are plentiful and fast. Our room was clean and comfortable. The pool seemed clean but the water was cold to the touch (we hadn’t planned a swim anyhow).
I think I’ll be back for a little staycation in the future.
