The first Madewell store opened in 2006 with designs inspired by our workwear beginnings but modernized for today. History

Established in 1937.

The story of Madewell started back in 1937. We began as a denim company and quickly won hearts for our meticulously crafted jeans. Today, we bring the same vintage-​driven love to everything we make, from denim to dresses to luxe silk tops. Step inside any of our locations across the country and you’ll notice our richly stocked denim bars, our friendly general-​store vibe and our authentic vintage décor (we deck out each of our stores with regionally sourced antiques to give a local feel).
