We hired Julian to tear down part of our old dilapidated fence and build a new beautiful horizontal fence in what is going to be our super sexy loungy back patio. We had contacted two other individuals for estimates on the same job and one of them didn’t know which direction horizontal was… uh, no thanks. Suffice it to say, we immediately decided on Julian for the job and couldn’t be happier. We found Julian on Unilocal and not only did he meet our expectations, he exceeded them. It’s no wonder he has such glowing reviews. He is a consummate professional and expert craftsman who took the time to explain his process and kept us updated every step of the way without having to be asked to do so. He was patient with our incessant questions and idle chatter and handled unforeseen complications diligently. He even took the time to get to know our 2 rambunctious Boston Terrors… I mean Terriers. The bigger of the two would always greet him by jumping on him and hitting him right in the… well, let’s just say the males in my family have nicknamed this pup «The Nut Crusher»… Sorry about that Julian. Nevertheless, he was super sweet and playful with them and took it all in stride. We are so impressed with his skills that we are already planning to have him back to do other projects. Thank you Julian for helping us make our home more beautiful. We look forward to working with you again in the near future.

Very professional from start to finish! We stopped watering our lawn in response to the drought. Tired of looking at the dead grass, I thought I could replace it with a deck. I found a few contractors on Unilocal.I hired Julian from Hammerhead Home Improvement because he listened to what kind of project I had in mind, gave us his expert recommendations, and worked with our budget. He is reliable, honest, and finished this 14′ X 14′ wood deck in record time. He cleaned up after himself leaving our backyard nice and neat everyday that he worked. We painted it based on his recommendation and now we have this beautiful place to entertain instead of dirt and dead lawn.

Julian is an amazing carpenter. I picked out a cool fence on Pinterest, and he copied it exactly. Not only did he do a great job on my gates and fences, he is a lot of fun to be around. We needed our gates replaced and some fences built in our backyard. We had two other bids in hand, but when Julian came out to give us an estimate I threw the other estimates away. I could tell right away this was the guy I was going to hire. He was confident, professional, and curtious. The finished product was amazing and I’m so glad we used him. If I ever need anything done again, Hammerhead Home Improvements will be my first and only call!

I had so wanted to use him for our home project. I had heard great things. Julian came out to look at our job. He said he would get us a bid/​estimate in a few days. I called him and emailed him multiple times for several weeks after and never heard back. So disappointed in the lack of professionalism.

Whenever I need a contractor, I always rely on word-​of-​mouth or Unilocal. I needed new fencing for my sliding metal gate, so I checked Unilocal for my area and picked Hammerhead Home Improvement… he had 15 reviews, and all 5 stars! I thought, «Nah, nobody is THAT good!!!»
Now, he has 16 5-​star rating! Yes, he is THAT good! While doing work in my front yard, two people in my neighborhood saw him working, saw his work, and now, he has 2 more jobs scheduled! Julian worked me into his busy schedule. The guy is busy because he is in demand.

So, our gate fell apart. The other two were on their last legs. I called Julian, he came right over, and now we have three lovely new gates built to fit. As it turns out, the broken gates were a blessing in disguise because now we know this lovely gentleman who is prompt, personable, reasonable, fast and talented. Looking forward to bringing Julian back to help us work through our honey-​do list and hopefully tackle our pie-​in-​the-​sky home improvement plans too. Hammerhead Home Improvement gets our highest recommendation!

I can’t say enough great things about Julian and the job he did designing and building our new vertical redwood fence and gate system.
I did a lot of looking around for a contractor or landscape design company that would take on the job, but all of them were looking for the big 40K+ jobs during the summer months to boost business and milk as much as they can out of the peak season. I had several business come out, take measurements, and never call back.
But not Julian. He was a straight arrow all the way. His craftsmanship is 100X better than anything installed by the «pros’ in our neighborhood. This resulted in just about everyone dropping by to try and steal him for jobs they wanted done! LOL.
Julian is meticulous, detail oriented, and will not take shortcuts. If, by some chance he makes a mistake, he fixes it immediately. He was punctual each day and got this incredibly difficult job done in a timely manner, all the while working in 95 degree+ weather. There were no surprise costs, no shady dealings; just honest incredible work. His estimate was accurate and WAY less than the few that actually called me back.

julian just finished up my bathroom remodel. he made great suggestions and saved us money by repurposing some of the items we already had. he was always on time and overall did an amazing job! we will definitely hire him again for future projects… i should start a savings acct and name it julian :)

Julian was awesome. He called me back promptly and worked with my schedule. He showed up on time and was so friendly. He was very thorough and did a fantastic job. All around good guy! Thanks, Julian! Definitely calling him for more work in the future. (He hung heavy laundry shelves and a mirror for me on this visit.)

This is a little late, but wanted to make sure I got the chance to say that Julian did an amazing job on my deck!!! I was off from work several weeks recouping from surgery and was tired of looking at my ugly backyard. Scouring the internet for ideas and pictures, I designed a simple looking, yet modern deck. I called several area designers and had awful experiences with everyone except Julian! Most quoted me in excess of $ 5,000 and that wasn’t going to happen. I called Julian and up front I told him I am on a budget and needed something very simple yet durable. Over the phone, we discussed options and a price. It was amazing how he showed up, I discussed my design, and away he went! Guy was done in less than 2 days. Cleaned up after himself and even put up with my dogs «visiting» him while he worked. This guy was a class act and I feel I got exactly what I wanted at a price that was not even the slightest bit ridiculous. I am planning on having him back to do some other projects I discovered are necessary!!! Much appreciated Julian! Thanks so much!

Julian did a great job. We had purchased a house and when the owner (who had leased it back for 1.5 years) finally moved out we looked at what had to be done. The side and rear steps were poorly constructed with large gaps between the wood and we either would have to replace or repair them. Julian came over and we discussed wood options as well as the look I was going for (colour had to be close to the hardwoods inside so that the wood looked like it would flow), etc.
It would be easy for me to say I was being very picky about the look I was going for. In addition, the side step would need to be able to have handles potentially put on it so it would be «movable» to allow for RV parking if the tenant had an RV, and we had just run the water supply under the old wood in the back, so we had to maintain that as a feature.
Yes, I was a pain in the butt in terms of how I envisioned the steps looking. And Julian was able to see what it was I was looking for, able to make suggestions based on his experiences with wood, and was exceptionally helpful at putting the whole thing together in a single package. Pricing was negotiated and was well within the budget I had put together, even considering the final wood choices.
Julian came over and started working while I was doing landscaping in the back, and he worked basically along side me. I had the opportunity to see his work in progress (not because I was watching, but because I was working on the landscaping where he was working on the steps) and see his work ethic. Measure, not twice, but three and four times, making sure everything was squared and that it came together tight before a cut was made. He was putting just as much care into the work he was doing on my property as I was putting into the work I was doing on my property.
Julian knows wood. He has a talent for bringing out the best of it in his construction. As we have been showing the house to prospective tenants they have all mentioned the high quality of the work that was performed throughout, and that does include the excellent work that Julian completed for us.
Would we use Julian again? Well in fact we did. I had a 45″ space that I wanted to hang a door on so it could be a pantry. Since you can’t get a 45″ door that meant that one would either have to be shaved down or built. I called Julian again and we discussed the project. We made the determination of the wood, and I decided to hang the panel using four cabinet hinges. Because of the size and weight of the wood we actually worked together on this with me being his apprentice and taking his direction (it was huge and heavy and really did take more than one person to align and hang). Once again working with Julian was a very pleasant experience.
I would highly recommend Julian to anyone who is even thinking of working in wood. The man is a true talent, as well as being a gentleman and very easy to work with.

This review is long over due. We hired Julian for two house project. When I was looking for a handyman, I made three calls. Julian was the only one to call back. He replaced two thresholds in our home (custom modern work) and we hired him back to do some painting. He was awesome to work with, understood what we wanted and did a perfect job. I have already referred him to a few friends. Give Julian a call.

We hired Julian several months ago to build a deck in our backyard. This was our first time doing so and we wanted to be thorough in finding the right person to do the job.
After meeting with several folks (companies and individuals), it quickly became evident that Julian was our guy. Not only because his bid was very competitive, but because of his professional demeanor, and honest appeal. He didn’t try to up sell us or offer something that was not needed. He was clear and worked with us to determine what might work best for what we wanted to do.
After a delay in starting the project (our fault, not Julian’s), Julian started in October. Throughout the entire process, he kept us in the loop about how things were going and what challenges he was experiencing. He was always on time, always professional, and always did what he promised. Not always true with contractors! Very up front, very thorough.
The end result was spectacular. His attention to detail and tremendous craftsmanship was evident in the finished product.
We are very pleased with our new deck and have already started referring Julian to others. We will definitely hire him for future projects… In fact, I’m looking at a house that needs to be painted as I write this!

I hired Julian to paint my bathroom and I also wanted my bedroom painted but didn’t have enough money for both. I asked him if he was interested in trading and he said that he had bartered in the past. I had some vintage G.I. Joes that I offered and he accepted! Now my bedroom and bathroom are painted, Julian has a new collection of G.I. Joes. Win-​win. It was a pleasure to work with such an easy-​going guy.

Julian was great to work with. He brought a lot of ideas and experience to the table. His attention to detail really made our fence project stand out and we’ve already been getting many compliments on it. I’m looking forward to hiring him again on the next project.

Julian is a «Jack of all trades». A couple of years ago he helped design and plant our native garden. He also built a huge garden box in the front that runs the width of our house. Oh, and he put in this gorgeous stone pathway leading up to our front porch that gets tons of compliments.
Let’s see… what else? He built a fence for us and a covered patio, organized our entire garage (TWICE – don’t get me started… my husband is a hoarder), built us this cool shelving system for our garage, put together a shed, and painted the front of our house
He also does small odd jobs, which is awesome if you have a husband who hates doing annoying little projects. Some little things he’s done for us include: installing shelves, hanging artwork, pressure-​washing, installing new windshield wipers, and putting our son’s new toys together. (I know, I know, we really are helpless creatures, aren’t we? Which is why we are so thankful for Julian!)
And he does all this politely, QUICKLY, and at reasonable rates. He is EXTREMELY intelligent, trust worthy, and has a heart of gold! Oh, and he’s great with kids and animals. What are you waiting for? Hire this guy! Although, now that the best-​kept secret is out, I’m going to have to share him! :-(

Julian Gyeltsen is a phenomenal handyman and gardener. Professional, stellar communicator, and has a heart of gold.
He painted my best girlfriend’s house and built plus stained a killer deck in her back yard… it took my breath away! I was amazed at what this man is capable of. He’s thorough to boot, so any hauling that needed to be done, prep work, and cleanup was entirely taken care of. He also mows lawns and has a fantastic reputation with his clients. It’s not hard to see why.
