Third Eye Records

One of my favorite record spots. I miss living in Long Beach. I miss stopping in here on my way home from work. I hope you guys are doing well. Hope to stop in soon.

I never leave here without picking up some gem on vinyl. Not a huge selection, but a smart one.

I could go on and on for paragraphs about how amazing this place is but I’m going to do my best to keep this short. First of all the owner of the shop is a great resource for finding out about new music, if you tell him what kind of music you’re interested in he always finds a cool new album for you to check out and everything in the store is reasonably priced.
Secondly, I recently purchased a turntable from Third Eye and although it worked perfectly in the store it wouldn’t spin at the correct speed when i got it hooked up at home. When I went back to Third Eye and explained the problem the owner was extremely understanding, he gave me the options of a full refund or a partial refund to put towards having the belt replaced. I went with the partial refund and when replacing the belt didn’t fix the problem I brought the turntable back and he gave me a full refund! The amazing selection and incredible customer service at this store cannot be beat, I highly recommend a visit to Third Eye!

Love this place! Amazing collection of psych records and other awesome obscurities (which is what I’m into) as well as more mainstream stuff, but I come for the heavy psych! All my fellow vinyl freaks need to add this shop to your «must visit» list. Small, one man owned and operated, and the owner is the best. Great prices too. They have bands playing here from time to time which is always a hoot. Third Eye Records is truly a gem among records stores, not to be ignored!

This is my second review, a year later I still love this collection. It’s one of my most reliable «gem finders.»
We all love Amoba (sort of), and we are all loyal to Fingerprints. But, if you want to have an experience that brings you back to the first generation of vinyl enthusiasm… the days of the Sequoia Swaps… the only choice is to open up your Third Eye.

My favorite record shop in all of Southern California, and there are quite a few that I love. Reasons: 1) I never walk out of here without a gem of aural pleasure. 2) the owner, Gary, knows his stuff – particularly psychedelic, shoegaze, indie, new wave, garage rock, etc and if asked, will make great recommendations on music that will suit your ear buds. 3) pricing, unlike some record stores in the area, third eye does not price gouge on new or used records.

Modest selection but VERY much my kind of stuff and well curated. Owner was affable and the prices are good. I will return here, for sure.

This is a cool little spot I found while record store hopping. I’ve always gone to fingerprints down the street and didn’t even know this one existed.
The place is small and selection is limited but like every little shop like this, you are bound to find hidden gems. They have vintage radios, posters, shirts and other neat stuff.
I found a few vinyls that I hadn’t seen anywhere else and they have a small tape section where I found my megadeth and savage grace tapes. (See my photo)
Another thing that I really liked about the store was the clerk (sorry I forgot your name man) He was really cool and helpful and seemed to enjoy being there. This is a nice little shop though. Will I come back? Yes, definitely. Check it out! You might find that one record you need.

I was in the area, so I made a point to check out this store as I’m always interested to see what gems a record store may have for me. My usual experience with record stores outside of a few staples in LA has mostly been terrible; overpriced, poor selection, LPs in poor condition, and some combination of those things. So I never have high expectations when I walk into a new place. After a few minutes of thumbing through the bins, this place really surprised me. Great selection, solid deals, cool atmosphere. If I lived in Long Beach this place would be my staple. I’ll definitely be back to dig through these bins again.

Exactly what a record store should be. Limited selection, but all of it good. Focused on rare and niche wax rather than the stacks of filler that most record shops have. Long Beach is becoming a crate diggers paradise and this pleases me.

This is a cool little record shop located in the middle of all the hip restaurants/​bars/​shops in Long Beach. They have a great 99 cent bin and some nice $ 4.99 and under bins among the regular priced vinyl. Not a huge shop but they have a nice, decent collection going. They also sell shirts, pins, vintage stereo equipment and whatnot. The staff was nice and helpful and smiling and happy the whole time I was there. Definitely have to drop in and check this modest little shop out!

Such a cool little record shop! Took my time looking through a wide variety selection of LPs and found some classic records. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this shop to anyone in long beach looking for decent priced well kept vinyls !

When you’re one of those dorky music aficionados seeking out obscure records like Can’s Tago Mago, Smiths bootlegs, or just trying to reconnect with selections from Steely Dan’s discography, Third Eye is a tiny little wonder shop. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
The first time I visited Third Eye, I was actually hoping to find a copy of Ege Bamyasi (my favorite Can record), an uncommon beast despite recent reissues. As luck would have it, the first time I strolled into the shop it was staring at me, right out front. Could you ask for a better introduction to this fine establishment?
Just on that first visit, I was blown away by Gary’s (the owner’s) eclectic selection. Though it might seem that Third Eye doesn’t have a lot of records, even when comparing to the likes of Atomic Records or Soundsations just up the 405, the beauty of Third Eye Records is the simple layout, and you’ll find fine rarities for better prices than just about anybody else – and in great shape!
Other than the outstanding and affordable records, Third Eye boasts a collection of clever and cool t-​shirts, badges, pins, posters, leftovers from the 90s VHS/​DVD music doc era, and more. The outside might not seem like much, and depending on your taste in record stores the interior might not either, but take a look. It’s well worth it, and the staff is always very friendly and down to earth (and always spinning peculiar records!).
For me personally, this is a record store to call home. There is a sense of community within the shop itself, and even if you only stop by once in a while, you’ll always feel welcomed as a friend. I’ve yet to find a better, more interesting record store that caters to my own eclectic taste. There are some of the finest record stores in the country down here in LA County, and Third Eye currently stands as my favorite. Amazing place.

Wonderful Nicely Curated Record Store a block off of Temple and 4^th. The owner Gary is a really nice guy and I drop in every few weeks to say hi and see what’s in stock. Recently found the Dick Hyman Moog record for a super reasonable price, i’d been looking for it for awhile. Gary knows music and does a great job of cycling things through.

I recently acquired a record player. Did I wait so long because I knew it would be just another addiction I would be feeding into? Possibly. But oh well, I bit the bullet and finally got one. Now, I needed to add to my collection. I didn’t want to get any records I have CD’s of, which is pretty hard for me, but I had so much fun at this store. I am from San Diego, was just in LA for a show, so we stayed in Long Beach. We originally were supposed to go to a different store on the same street, but they sold records of new rockabilly artists, which is great and fun, but not what I was looking for.
We decided to keep heading up the street and saw Third Eye. I am so glad we stopped in. It’s a small store, sure, but it had so much great music. My favorite record I picked up was Elvis Costello. So good, already listened to it 4 times since Saturday evening. Every record store is going to have your standards, Elvis, Beatles, Johnny Cash… but this place had more of the punk music which is exactly what I was looking for.
Not to mention the guy there was awesome. So nice, talked with us, helped us out with any question we had. If I lived in Long Beach I would be here all the time. THANKFULLY for my wallet (and my husband’s sanity) we do not, but I will definitely stop in any time we’re in Long Beach.

After stopping at a nearby coffee shop for an espresso drink, I noticed this record store, and had to check it out. The record store is located in the back of a clothing store. It is much smaller than fingerprints, but you shouldn’t miss it if you look. I walked in and started looking through the records. I soon discovered that this record store had a TON of things that I wanted. Not only that, the prices for the records were awesome. Previously I had only ever seen John Fahey records on sale for at least 28 bucks. I happened upon The Can, which I hadn’t seen in other store, and a number of other LP’s I had to have.
Needless to say, I am gonna have to be careful about going here, or I’m gonna be broke! The guy who was there offered to let me use the record player to listen to vinyl s before I bought them. Which I also think is awesome. I don’t think I would, because I am always worried about accidentally scratching records or breaking needles or something. But, it was still an awesome offer. I have to say, I am a fan of this place.

Nice owner, fun atmosphere, and records galore. There are a lot of hard to find, eclectic records in here. Plus, if you don’t see it in the store, ask the owner, Gary and he’ll probably be able to get it for you.
