Very patient Dr she was wounderful checked everything twice and the office girls were just as awesome would recommend them to family and friends for sure, I will definitely be a returning customer.

Been coming here forever every year I treat myself to new frames. They have designer lenses and trendy sunglasses. It’s within close walking distance to home and I don’t need to bother driving after I get my eyes dilated. I like Dr. Mukai better than that other place on 1^st/​Long Beach Blvd. That eye doctor man was not good at all. I’ve received excellent customer service and honest feedback about my eyes. My insurance is pretty good so I have no complaints about spoiling myself with expensive stuff. No kids either, so I can afford it. If you feel pressured or cannot afford anything, YOU have a right to decide to keep your money in your wallet, right? Choices, people.

Knowledgeable, kind, honest, considerate, and very competitive prices.

Dr. Mukai is friendly and her office staff has great customer service. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field and takes great care of her patients. Her office has a wide variety of frames in many designer names. I reccommend her to everyone!

First let me say that Dr. Mukai is very knowledgeable about her profession.
However she does not know how to develop good rapport with her clients. I cannot post this review without a rating. I would give this place ZERO stars if possible.
I spent 15 minutes shy of TWO HOURS in her office. I went in for glasses and somehow found myself paying for glasses and contacts. (that’s fine.) My bill was around $ 300. Mind you, I would have been more than happy to spend my hard earned money at her office, if the customer service was informative and simply respectful.
I’ll start with her condescending tone during the eye exam!!! She was so impatient with me! Serious attitude when I was taking the eye exam. It seemed as though she thought I was lying about my answers. She became VERY IMPATIENT and continued with a snarky tone. Lol
I asked when I would be receiving my glasses, she said she was unsure and said it could take a few weeks. She said that the lab in Sacramento was backed up. Understandable.
She told me «a few weeks or so.» «I don’t know.» «We’ll give you a call» «the glasses will come in before the contacts» –15 mins later she says «actually the contacts will get here first but I don’t know.»
What.
I was very uncomfortable about spending that much money on her business after such vague answers. I understand that she has no control of what the lab has in stock or not. A simple explanation would have great.
She spoke to me as if I didn’t trust her. It’s not that I did not trust her. I just wanted to make an informed consumer decision before making a large purchase. I wanted to weigh my options and see if I could get my glasses quicker elsewhere. She insisted that I would hear the same thing from other eye care businesses because of my insurance plan. She was not happy when I asked if I could just get the prescription and look else where. I also did not appreciate how she suggested that my indecisiveness had to do with money issues.
I paid the $ 300+ bill and walked away like I had just left the twilight zone. I was appalled and in disbelief of what I had just experienced. I walked home and called them back for a refund. They voided my payment and I paid only for the copay. That was the best part of my experience at that business.
Save yourself the trouble and go to Brinley & Morad down the street. I did. And I was MORE THAN HAPPY to pay just under $ 400 for their services. Even if I still have to wait a week or so for my glasses to come, I left that place a happy customer because of the service I received.
After reading her Unilocal responses to previous unhappy patients, I wonder how seriously she takes her oath of confidentiality. I know my rights and under the First Amendment I am protected. However, I am curious to see what her response will be.
Again, I am not knocking her knowledge as an optometrist. I am simply an unsatisfied patient with the service I received from her office.

I wish I could give them a zero. I was taught at a young age to not say anything if you have nothing to say. I have to speak out because many people use Unilocal as a tool to help them make buying decisions. As a consumer, the worse thing for us to do is to keep silent when we receive bad service.
We bought my son a pair of glasses. They gave us an eyeglasses case that was too small for the glasses. Worse of all the case was also cheap. The doctor told us that we were limited in our case selection because our glasses of the low price of glasses. We also did not get cleaner or wipes. As a result, we felt mistreated because we did not spend a lot for frames. We felt like second– classed citizens.
We would have bought frames that are more expensive but they had a very limited selection. The doctor said that they do not care a large selection of designer frames because of the area that the office is located in. mmmmmmm. I am not going to accuse her of making a racist comment but that statement is so false. They need to work on their marketing because they are located near several high rises and not far several affluent areas.
In closing, I read some good comments on this site. I wish my experience were a good as their experiences. I also want the owner to know that people in this area buy designer frames and most importantly write honest Unilocal reviews.
BTW. I was window shopping at Walmart and they gave me an eyeglasses cleaner.

It’s been waaaayyy too long since I’ve been here but I’ve been wearing glasses for over 20 years and this is, by far, the best I’ve ever found. I’m calling in today to schedule an appointment. LOVE LOVE the staff!

Good experience, only came in to get my frames adjusted. They were friendly and courtesous.

I’m surprised that this place doesn’t have a higher rating. I’ve been coming here for a few years and never had any issues. Dr. Mukai has always been nice and friendly, and I’ve only had good experiences here. She is a little on the quiet side, but friendly if you chat with her during the exam.
I take forever to make decisions about things, and she and her staff had no problem letting me take my time looking at and trying on several glasses frames after my exam. The receptionist/​assistant that was helping me with the frame selection took the time to show me some of their latest frames, and what was popular. When I decided to try contacts for the first time, Dr. Mukai was totally helpful in selecting the type to order. They were also patient with me when it took FOREVER for me to get the contacts in and out of my eyes!
The store itself is kind of on the small side, but they offer a selection of designer frames, as well as more reasonable selections. In addition to getting my prescription glasses and contacts here, I also picked up a cute pair of Fendi sunglasses at a good price. My glasses and contact orders were always ready by the day they said they would be, and they send out reminder cards to schedule your next eye exam. I even got a gift certificate for referring another customer to them. Overall, I really like this place.

So far so good. I have only been there a couple of times but everything was easy and painless. No trouble with insurance or appointments. I thought the doctor and the receptionist were both professional and friendly. Not pushy like some places.
The thing about the doctor that people might not be used to is she seems a little on the shy side. So to some people that might come across as standoffish or know it all. But its really kind of cute, she giggle a lot. Just talk to here and she will open up.
It’s a nice break from all my other doctors that don’t listen at all and don’t have time for you. I felt really comfortable going there.
The only negative I would say is that I have seen more medical equipment in other offices. Probably what she has is totally standard but my old doc had a few extra gizmos she used to test my eyes with.

Great service and great frame selection. I always get complements on the frames I’ve purchased from here. Dr. Mukai always has a great frame collection, especially since I have a huge soft spot for Gucci’s, which she always keeps a great selection of.
Dr. Mukai and her staff do a really great job of explaining my benefits to me. I just got a new job this year, and with it came a whole new insurance plan. They really take the time to sit down and go over my insurance options, so I know what my insurance will pay for, and the different options I can get that will be covered under my insurance.
Best part is that the doctor is really helpful. I’m mainly a contact lens wearer, have been for years. I wanted to try a different brand of lenses a couple years back, mainly to save money on lenses. They fit well at first, but after a while, I just couldn’t stand them and wanted to go back to my old brand. Old habits die hard right? Unfortunately, I was all out of my old contacts. I called the office, and they were willing to take me in that same day, fit me for lenses from my old brand, and I got a trial pair as I waited for my order to come in.

I’m going to be as short as possible. She’s awfullll!!! No people skills, terrible customer service, and talked to me as if i were her child. This lady drove me nuts! I only went here because its convenient (only live a block away and there’s never a wait… now i know why). Don’t waste ur precious time coming here.

I had a horrible experience with this lady! The first time I saw the «doctor» she took over 2 hours to do a simple eyeglasses/​contacts exam and during the whole thing she was very weird and stand-​offish. What really bothered me is when I asked her to show me some of the letters again (you know the whole «which one looks better, this one or that one») she actually had the nerve to get mad/​frustrated with me! She also almost refused to prescribe a certain brand of contacts that I’ve been wearing for over 10 years simply because they were «too expensive» and told me that I «couldn’t afford them.» During the whole eye exam she seemed very unsure of herself which is why it took so damn long. Then after that long and awkward exam she and her assistant tried to make me buy all these extra and expensive add ons to the glasses. I felt so uncomfortable the whole time that I ended up leaving without ordering anything. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!
