The food and service is great. But the décor is tacky — looks like it was done by Bed Bath and Beyond — I was a bit surprised.

LOVE this place. Don’t be fooled by it’s lack of Curb appeal. The food and cozy ambiance make up for it. Many of the servers have French accents so it is perfect for a romantic date! Their menu features traditional French recipes that are accessible to anybody, nothing too exotic(with the exception of the Escargot). Their special for the night was Beef Bourguignon, and it was AMAZING. The portions are not huge, but hey its French!

One of the things I miss most about living in Eagle Rock is walking down to the Café Beaujolais for some great food, friendly service, and a good bottle of wine.

Ooohhhlala! Yes, this is as good as it gets. The escargot smothered in garlic and butter is just absolutely to die for. I had two servings of just this one appetizer and, or course, had to have red wine to neutralize the richness of it all. They give you more than enough bread to mop up all the butter and garlic that go with it. FYI: Even if you don’t order the escargot, you are given enough butter to go with your bread which they just keep filling up along with your water. Cute waiters with French accents are an added bonus. Mwah mwah mwah. And the casual, laid-back ambience is just right given the Eagle Rock location. I have been here several times and would like to say that I’ve tried 80% of what they have on the menu. Have had the steak frites, the beef spaghetti, the trout, the halibut, and the seafood fettuccuini — all good. What makes it better is that their prices are reasonable. You can get 2 – 3 meals out of one order. Dans l’ensemble, le plus délicieux, la plupart cuisine merveilleuse que vous avez jamais mettre dans la bouche!!!

Took a friend for her birthday. She feltt like we should order one meal and split it. At first i protested because I was trying to show off by running up a big bill, but she was more sensible and we orderred a salad, an appetizer, and an entrée-too much food. Between the Caesar sar aesar salad, escargot, and boeuf bourguignon. We were stuffed and high on garlic butter. My only complaint is that the wine was dry, really dry! No big deal. Food and fine srvice made up for it.

My wife and I decided on going to a French restaurant. We looked around and since we were in the area we went to Café Beaujolais. We made a reservation and was greeted immediately nicely by the owner or manager. The service was exceptional, the server to the bus boy all were friendly. Its located on Colorado blvd, near Oinkster. The price is fair for what you get. There is plenty of street parking and its free after 8pm We enjoyed the free bread! we had 3 baskets lol. I went with the Steak Frites. The fries were ok, but the steak was good. I wish it had more butter so I could mix that with the fries. Portion size was really large. French Onion Soup was delicious. The cheese was stringly. the onions were sweet and it all worked together. My wife ordered the Parm crusted Halibut. It was amazing, probably the highlight of the night. Its def something to try in the area.

I have been desperately trying to hunt down a great French restaurant while here in L. A and I think I’ve finally found it! Nestled in Eagle Rock, CA, I was surprised to find this little gem using Unilocal. My mom visited me and we decided to go on a weekday. It’s quite spacious inside, despite the outside exterior. We were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately since we got there a little after 5:30,(The restaurant opens at 5pm) and got a nice seat by the window. This will be probably my only complaint but the types of seats they have there are very uncomfortable! They really squeeze the sides of your hips/buttocks and I don’t really have a big butt, but it was pretty unpleasant to sit in for a prolonged time. Other than that negative, everything else was great. The service is top notch. The waiters are very attentive and constantly make sure your water is topped up and see to your ever needs. They bring you fresh french bread with butter and a wine bottle of fresh water! Now, to get to what both my mother and I ordered. I got the Escargot and the Duck and my mom got the French Onion Soup and the Salmon. The escargot was out of this world. The snails were cooked perfectly, and there was enough lovely garlic butter to mop up with the bread they brought us. My mom really enjoyed her French Onion soup, but when they brought it out it was scorching hot and it took her awhile to eat it because it was sooo HOT. Then comes the main courses. My duck arrived along with the potato gratin, and side of aspargus. The duck was cooked beautifully and was tender on the inside along with its pefectly crisp skin on the outside. There was a lovely orange jus that accomplained the flavors of the tender duck amazingly! The potato gratin was just as delicous and the aspargus was great too. I pretty much licked the plate clean it was sooo good. My mom really enjoyed her salmon with mashed potatoes and aspargus. Her salmon had a great crisp skin and had a creamy lemon sauce on it. I was still up for a bit more so my mom and I shared a Crème Burlee for dessert. Again, it was another perfect dish to finish off the night. I was absolutely blown away by the qaulity, taste, display and quickness with the food. You could tell the owner, and chefs really cared about presenting high qaulity food. The only reason I couldn’t give it five stars is because of the uncomfortablness of the seats. Other than that it was a nearly perfect dining experience.

I think I might have expected too much from here. I would describe it best as a local neighborhood French spot. Service wasn’t exceptional by any standards. The food is good, but it’s a rustic, home-cooked kind of good that I think can be found in many solid French cafes. I guess what I’m saying is while the food is good, I think other local French spots are just as good. No need to travel all the way just for this. We had the onion soup to share and the duck for him and the halibut for me. Onion soup was as expected. Good gooey melted cheese. The halibut was nicely cooked but the dish overall felt a little dry between the parmesan crust and the mashed potato. I guess I just wanted more sauce. The sauces were the stars of both dishes and the dishes needed more! The atmosphere and ambience are spot on. Very reminiscent of France and walking into a local cute café. But since I didn’t have great service and the food was subpar, I don’t think I’ll be back.

My favorite French restaurant in LA !!! This is my second time here, and it was still so amazing ! I ordered a escargot, top sirloin, and lamb. Everything was delicious ! Escargot was soft and very well cooked, and top sirloin was amazing with lots and lots and lots of fries. I don’t usually eat lamb, but I gave it a bite when my boyfriend strongly suggested me to try it. I am so glad I did ! It was tender, and the sauce made the whole dish a 10⁄10 The atmosphere is always great, and service is one of the best ! I seriously think their French food are better than the ones I had in France.(or maybe I was just not good at looking for good Food in France ?) I will keep coming back for all the good food and wonderful service !!!

Stygian, Tartarean, Cimmerian, in other words, just plain dark, you’ll need your flashlight app on your smart phone to see the white lettering on black background menu at Le Beaujolais. Our waiter, who may have been of French Caribbean origin, spoke w/a charmingly deep baritone French accent touched w/a bit of the lilting tropics. The place was packed on Sunday around 7:30pm, & we snagged the last table for two via phone so it might be a good idea to call for reservations for«le weekend». 1) I had the Magret de Canard au Miel et Citron which is oven roasted duck breast in a honey, lemon aigre-doux/sweet sour sauce along w/a bit of a meaty fond de cuisine/broth. Duck breast is ample, thick, generous swimming in a pool of the sauce aigre-doux, & though we agreed on medium rare, it was closer to medium which was still fine. There was a thick square slab of excellent Pomme au Gratin, baked, sliced, layered potato dressed w/ripe cheese & heavy cream scorched by the heat of the oven. It tasted slightly dairy sour w/a touch of what may be nutmeg for a woody, warm spice undertone. Carrots w/their contrasting stubby, green tops still showing &3 asparagus spears rounded out the vegetal accompaniments. Presentation here, if any, is casual, unpretentious. The Japanese influence on French Nouvelle Cuisine which states one also eats w/one’s eyes is entirely missing which is entirely appropriate for what Café Beaujolais is all about. This is more like bistro food from the more outer lying working class arrondissements of Paris. 2) I sampled a bit of the Steak«Maitre d’Hotel» which implies that the pat of butter is beaten w/lemon juice, parsley, mustard, paprika, salt & pepper. The top sirloin steak is butterflied in half to cover almost the entire dinner plate & is grilled in herb + oil. Smart idea halving the meat to shorten the cooking time since a thin slice of meat cooks through faster and also making it look bigger on the plate. It is meaty w/a heavy chaw. Don’t have false teeth when ordering this baby. Teeth implants will have to do for the dentally challenged. Perhaps marinating it in a bit of red wine for a while would soften the meat a bit as well as adding a vin rouge/red wine gastrique Umami. Pommes Frites were crispy on the outside, but rather dry inside so I dipped the ‘French’ fries in the aigre-doux sauce for the duck. 1−2a) This is where I felt Café Beaujolais failed big time. The Malbec from Cahors & the mixed varietals from the Cotes du Rhone were PLONK. What was worse is that they were respectively $ 10& $ 13. I have had great wine from Cahors, Midi-Pyrénées & also wonderful wines from the Rhone River Valley which I thought would work well w/the Magret de Canard, but what Café Beaujolais offered was flabby, drab, lackluster wine. C’est Dommage. The plates here are generous & ample so we had to skip dessert. Café Beaujolais may be the«Teflon» French restaurant of Los Angeles. President Reagan may have eaten here. In our city where«pure» French restaurants are few & far between now, I’m sorry to say that, in my opinion, at most Beaujolais is a 3+ Unilocal star. Presently, I’d rather have the French fare at Napoleon et Josephine for moderate French dining w/far better wines & more of a Gallic flair.

Ok, gave this place another chance and will NOT return. Was completely over charged for their food and quality. Sure, keep refilling on that bread basket to compensate for the food, which is nothing special or amazing. We had a daily special appetizer of some mixed fish foie gras– which was new, but not a reorder item. Caesar salad(I know…) extremely underwhelmed not to mention the portion was extremely stingy. Fish– probably not a fresh catch either. We came to a surprise about the bill, $ 108, with four glasses of $ 7 wine, 2 appetizers and a fish dish. Really? The add up didn’t make sense, the food wasn’t spectacular. No thank you not coming back.

Had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner here. It was a $ 65 menu for an appetizer, main course and dessert per person. Appetizer: –Duck pâté in porto sauce: huge pâté but I honestly was not a fan. The pâté stench was super strong and the gelatin on the side just did not groove with my palate. Would not recommend unless you know you’re for sure a pâté person. –Lobster bisque: really was nothing special. no lobster inside, not much of a seafood taste, very bland to be honest. Main course: this was where the $ at! –Filet mignon of beef cognac and morel sauce: the filet was cooked perfectly, super tender. The sauce was phenomenal as well and the mashed potato on the bottom was super fluffy and flavorful, not overwhelmingly buttery as well. I absolutely loved the tomato with breadcrumbs on top as well. perfect mix of crunchy from the crumbs and then juicy from the tomato. –Oven baked rack of lamb in dijon mustard sauce: my bf got this and he loved it. I had a bite and normally I’m not a lamb person because there’s a very strong lamb scent but surprisingly it was not strong at all. Cooked perfectly as well! Dessert: –Crème brûlée: very well done! the inside was super smooth and vanilla-y, only wish they had some berries or tartness to contrast the sweet. –chocolate cake: honestly was not a fan. way too sweet for my liking and the frosting on top did not help at all. The bread they provide for free is so so soft and delicious. The service was AMAZING as well. They kept refilling our bread without us even asking/finishing. When we had about 2 pieces left in our basket, they would just refill it again with some fresh bread. They were super attentive as well and gave us a free glass of wine to start of the meal. The service was an A+. For this price, I’m not sure if I would recommend the place but I believe their prices are more reasonable when it’s not combined into a V-day 3 course set meal. Their main courses are where it’s at as well as the service. The ambiance was phenomenal that night as well. Would recommend highly for normal visits(stay away from the special nights here b/c I don’t think the food is worth that high of a price!)

Quaint little French restaurant in Eagle Rock, with awesome hospitality! they were the only restaurant that we called that would accommodate our large group of 20+ people so late at 9pm on a Thursday! the restaurant stayed open late for us and even offered us a $ 50 per person 3 course meal from their regular menu! they were even nice enough to throw in complimentary champagne and dessert wine —complimentary flaky white bread w/butter —smoked salmon salad: standard, can’t go wrong with smoked salmon —noix de saint-jacques: scallops shrimp and potatoes as a casserole, tasty —escargot: not my favorite of the ones ive tried —halibut: nice cheese crust flavor —coq au vin:(one of the night’s specials) the one bite of chicken i had was delicious and juicy, but my friend said it got dry in the other parts of the dish —rack of lamb: standard —crème brûlée: probably the better dessert to go with —profiteroles filled with ice cream: interesting take on cream puffs —gâteau chocolat: a bit dry, i should’ve ordered the chocolate mousse! there’s a french white wine on the list you’ve got to try but i forgot the name, sorry!

Very dim lit and romantic place. Food was decent but the service needs improvement. We asked the waiter for the bill and it took a long time until we realized he did forget about us. After a long wait, we proceeded to the front bar and paid. He ordered steak and fries for $ 22.00 and did not really enjoy it. He thought the meat tasted like carne asada because it was thin. I tried it and totally agree, it’s not the finest steak and it’s more like a beef with little to no flavor. They did put butter on it but it was so much oil. The fries were plentiful and not bad, just plain crispy fries. At least the fries was okay. I ordered the halibut fish with green beans, mash potatoes, and tomatoe. This is what they are known for or I mean what most people order. It was delicious, not even dine la and it’s for $ 26 which is a good deal. I would come back and order something else for fun. The halibut was savory and crusted with Parmesan. I believed it’s baked and you can have rice with it but I did not need it since it came with side vegetables.

Came here for a casual Saturday night dinner with my parents. The place itself has a romantic ambience and is great for a date. We were seated immediately and they brought us bread. Just basic bread with Altadena butter, nothing too fancy. We decided to start off with the French onion soup and avocado with crab salad. The avocado was nothing to rave about but the French onion soup was to die for! A must have. I ordered their Parmesan crusted halibut for my entrée. The fish was nice and firm with an amazing crust. The sauce was buttery and velvety and had so much flavor. So unhealthy but so good! Finished off the meal with the crème brûlée and chocolate cake. The cake had a strange stale texture but the flavor was good. Crème brûlée was divine. The food does take some time but there is a sign up front that clearly says it does. The waiters were all laid back but very attentive to the customers. I would gladly come back here!

When my brother visits the LA area, this is one restaurant we seem to find ourselves in more often than not. And there’s a good reason for it. This French restaurant in Eagle Rock makes fantastic food and provides great service. The restaurant looks like a rustic, well kept old tavern and there are lots of cool retro posters in French though no La Chat Noir poster in sight. The lighting is a dim but not too dark. Bread service is great because the butter is not brick hard. The dishes are reasonbly priced and all tasted pretty good. My last visit I got the New York steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Flavorful and juicy. Though also do a mean French Onion Soup. I can’t resist a good cheesy soup. A great neighborhood restaurant that I wish I had in my neighborhood.

I seriously don’t understand the hype. at all. I came freaking excited because of all the awesome reviews on Unilocal. You guys have failed me. CB is(at best) an average restaurant. I think it’s a problem when the favorite part of the restaurant is the staff’s French accents. French Onion Soup The soup was actually pretty tasty. I liked the cheese and the soup as a whole is pretty above average. But the soup can’t save this restaurant. Halibut($ 24) WAY too cheesy and the flavor is way too strong. It totally kills the Halibut. Honestly one of the worst Halibut’s I’ve ever had. Extremely disappointed because I was recommended this dish by a friend of mine. Another friend at the table with me also ordered this and thought the same. The mash was really good, but too little too late. I do like the signs in the front. They’ll put a smile on your face.

The only reason why I am giving this place a 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because of the limited parking space on the street and the waiter who brought our food out and offered pepper, or else our main waiter was super sweet and a gentleman. The food was just perfect. I got fish with veggies and it was super delicious. Very cozy and small place and the fact that the waiters speak in French gives this place a whole different atmosphere.
